Diner Reviews
  • "Waitress and service were excellent. Scallops,Lamb, Brussels sprouts and cheese platter our best entries. Some of our PEI clams did not seem cooked and all of us commented on this. Extensive wine list. Although the atmosphere was great, I enjoy the food at another Tapas establishment's food much better. I would go back for the atmosphere and wine menu though."

  • "Zambia combines a mellow, earthy ambiance with artfully designed decor to create an atmosphere conducive to relaxed, intimate dining. The Tapas small plates we have had during our to visits have been excellent. The hostess and waitstaff are attentive and helpful. The management should give some thought to the recorded music being piped in. The overall sound is dance oriented and beat heavy. It may work if you're drinking at the bar, but it doesn't do justice to the ambiance in the dining room. It's an unnecessary distraction and occasionally a small discomfort in an otherwise pleasant environment. "

  • "Zambra has a very romantic setting, low lighting and an attractive, intimate atmosphere. It was a little louder than expected but we did go on a busy Friday night. The downside to the low lighting was that we could barely see to read the menus and our waitress was not at all inclined to help us with that issue. She wasn't particularly helpful about helping us select menu items, which could have been useful since it is a tapas restaurant and there were many items on the menu. But, the food was very good and there was a great deal to choose from. We liked everything we ordered. There is an extensive wine list. Not very much dessert to choose from. The prices seemed reasonable."

  • "This was our first tapas experience. Took our kids who are 16,13, and 10. Was a little hesitant to take our kids but in the end, we had a lot of fun trying different things on the menu. So many great choices! Our service was fantastic and the atmosphere was fun and energetic. Would definitely go back when visiting Asheville. "

  • "Food was excellent. Service was a little slow. Server could have been a little more informative about portion selections. "

  • "Good assortment of small plate items on the menu. Impressive wine list with notable high end reds but also includes decent economical house wines. Read somewhere this was a great romantic spot, but not in my opinion. The place was packed with a steady turnover of diners all night long. That aside, very happy with our dining experience. "

  • "We always try to come to Zambra when we're in Asheville. The food is always interesting and doesn't disappoint. The music is quiet and doesn't interfere with conversation. The service is friendly and usually professional. The ambience is fun. "

  • "Great food, service, and environment! The food selection was vast with wonderful daily specials to choose from. House cocktails were good as well with a few very good selections, others not so much. We would recomend this place to stop in and have dinner while in Ashville."

  • "Table waw not ready had to wait a while. When table was ready sat right next to band. Was unable to sit at any of the empty table's because certain tables were already spoken for. That would have been nicce have known. Also tapa sizes are smaller than normal"

  • "We came with a bit of reservation and left knowing that we will come back again. Really enjoyed the different varieties of things to eat and not getting them in excess. We are both 80 years old and hope we can still come when we are 90!!"

  • "My friend and I dined here while on vacation in Asheville after reading many reviews. Being a tapas restaurant is perfect for sharing and being able to try various things. We settled on the arugula salad, sesame scallops, pomegranate pork spring roll, and a daily special of fried quail with chipotle grits. Everything was delicious but the scallops were exceptional, quite possibly one of the better bites of food I've had recently. We also got the banana peanut butter flan for dessert and each got a glass of the house sangria (very sweet, but delicious). This restaurant is reasonably priced, the entire meal including tip came to $70.00 and we were stuffed. It might be pricier if males are involved though :). I definitely recommend!"

  • "Zambra has remained in my top 3 to 5 restaurants in Asheville since we moved here in 2009. The menus are great and you can always find something you like and something new you want to try. The floating, changing menus are my favorite part. There is always some new combination of flavor that is outstanding. My wife and I have been here probably 12 times over the past 4-5 years. It never disappoints, the service is always friendly and good, and the food is consistently good."

  • "We went on the recommendation of a neighbor. The regular and special menus had some good choices. The wine list is both Spanish and Californian. We had a very nice tempranillo. The sesame encrusted scallops are my favorite."

  • "Zambra's is one of our absolute all time favorite restaurants. It is perfect for a romantic evening full of great food, good drinks and the perfect ambiance (just wished they stayed open later). We have never had a single thing to complain about until our last visit. The server seemed pre-occupied or uninterested in serving us or something. She would appear for a quick second to take an order (and would walk away before we were finished talking/ordering) and then would disappear for long bouts of time. She could have served me at least 3 more cocktails (and in turn would have had a higher check for us which means a bigger tip). We will return in hopes that this was just an off night."

  • "A friend and I were finally able to cross this place off our list of places to eat in Asheville this past weekend. We ordered 3 dishes and the bread (which was awesome). Unfortunately we only ended up eating 2 dishes because 1 of them was taking a very long time and we eventually decided to leave. We tried the brussels sprouts and scallops. Both dishes were great!"

  • "My husband and I always go to Zambra when we visit Asheville and, this time was the absolute best meal we have had there. We knew a newer tapas restaurant opened in town and, hoped that Zambra was still "on top of their game." Well, not only are they still the best tapas restaurant in town but, they seemed to have brought everything to another level. My hubby and I are pretty die hard foodies but, this meal really blew us away. One of the top five best meals I've ever had. Everything was perfect from the food to the service and the romantic atmosphere. I literally cannot wait to return to Zambra!"

  • "Zambras serves wonderfully presented and tasting tapas. We went there for our wedding anniversary on the recommendation of a friend and we loved it. Our table was in a little corner by ourselves, so it was mostly quiet and very romantic. It might have been harder for me to hear in the larger room. The food tasted even better than it looked. Excellent all the way!"

  • "We went to Zambra before the symphony. Lots of other people had the same idea, but the staff were apparently used to the pre-symphony crowd. Our service was efficient and timely, without being rushed, and the food, as always, was delicious. We go there frequently and have never been disappointed."

  • "Love, love, love this place. The tapas were exceptional!!! I cannot wait to visit again! It is a very romantic atmosphere, great for a date night. Zambas noise level is very quiet...my only issue is that my friend and I were set right next to a table which soon became filled by a group of about 6 or 7 and the mother had been drinking and the whole family was a little loud, but it was no big deal. Obviously, this is not Zambra's fault. I recommend this to everyone!! So delishious! And the waitress was so, so nice and helpful."
