Diner Reviews
  • "did not like it.all salad preparation was cold.Hate cold food for dinner"

  • "I was anxious to eat here as it is always ranked one of the "most booked" restaurants in Philadelphia. My sister and I were not disappointed. We decided to go for it and order the Mesibah because of course it was "party time". We enjoyed every dish down to the tender lamb shoulder and delicate dessert. Our server, Autumn, was very patient and had great suggestions. Zahav offers quintessential service. Everyone worked well as a team and we were never left wanting for a single thing. We will surely return."

  • "The food preparation, presentation and selection was excellent and our server, professsional and very helpful explaining the many dishes offered. The freshly made Laffa and Humus was the start of an exceptional meal, their salad selection, the Salatim, was very different, with a blending of veggies, spices, and flavors plus a great presentation as well. Left happy and well fed, we had ordered the Tayim, a tasting option, and it was an excellent value."

  • "The food was wonderful. The variety of middle eastern dishes was amazing. The service was the best service I have ever had. Our family felt as if we were the only patrons in the restaurant!"

  • "The food and service are always great. Great place for friends and to do business."

  • "I have the feeling I will always be surprised by how good the flavors and the presentations thrill my guests and me on every visit. ...even a gluten free restriction does not phase them. The Lamb is to die for...the rest is what you get when you go to heaven, but Zahav has it ready every day."

  • "Went there on a weekday with reservations for 3 people to be seated at 8:45. Finally, got seated at 9:15. Food was excellent and abundant. We were treated to extras; perhaps an unstated apology for the delay in seating us."
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "Unbelievable experience - excellent food and service. Ethnic food at its best - well prepared and served. Best meal that I've had in Philly. Interesting menu and would suggest the Tayim where each person gets to select various items to share with the table. Very delicious dishes with lots of unique choices. More food than even the hungriest person could eat."

  • "Zahav exceeded all expectations. We chose the Tasting Menu (well priced and versatile) to celebrate a special birthday. The initial course, salad and hummus, was delicious and inventive. Beautiful, fresh vegetables prepared with obvious care accompanied the hummus and home made bread. The rest of the meal was terrific, as well, from the small plates of vegetables (mezze) to the main courses (perfectly seasoned branzino, chicken and lamb meatballs). Each dish had delicate flavors and accompanying sauce. The desserts--fabulous: chocolate mousse dotted with cherries and a dusting of nuts, a vanilla custard with rasberries and crushed pistachio. Very attentive service, warm, welcoming, informative. A lovely dinner; a very charming setting."

  • "Even though it was quite busy on the Sunday my girlfriend and I visited Zahav, we were seated within two minutes of checking-in with the hostess. We were seated in a section of the restaurant that is somewhat secluded from the main dining area, which was nice. The restaurant is painted in muted earth tones and didn't overdo it on the decoration. It was our first time dining here, so we went with recommendations from the waiter which didn't disappoint. The Turkish hummus was some of the best either of us ever had, while the the fried cauliflower left me mind-blown with the sauce the accompanied it. The spicy eggplant and chicken entrees were also quite good, though the chicken portion was a bit meager for two."

  • "The food and service were excellent. The ambience however was less than ideal. The restaurant is far too crowded, Tables too close together. You feel like you are dining with the next table. I felt because of the crowding, the noise level was outrageous. Very difficult to have a decent conversation."

  • "Fantastic food, amazing service, and a consistently top notch experience. Nina, and the entire staff make the meal the great evening you get in very few places. A great time was had by all, and our return is a definite!"

  • "Went for dinner and tried so many wonderful foods - the wait staff was unbelievable in helping us choose our meals. They explained the food and gave great recommendations. The food itself is out of this world - if you enjoy trying new foods, this is the place to be. We LOVED the cauliflower dish and the konafi was outstanding. My husband and I both had drinks that were very exciting and refreshing. We had visited years ago and remembered having a great experience our first time out - this time did not disappoint either. We are looking forward to bringing some friends along next time! Highly recommend Zahav if you want a truly unique, fun and delicious dining experience!"

  • "On our second visit the food was terrific and the service at least as good. I wish that we could say the same for the loud recorded music. Why do otherwise excellent restaurants do this? The (much) younger clientele must be attracted. After trying the prix fixe on our first visit we opted for the somewhat larger portions a la carte and were pleased. The hummus is to die for."

  • "Best food and dining experience I Have had in Philadelphia and I am a foodie and lifelong resudent. Tip: Get the chef's tasting menu."

  • "This was our second visit to Zahav. The food and service is consistently outstanding. A change of pace with their small plates and superb service and knowledgeable wait staff."

  • "One of the best dining experiences we've ever had."
    Dined on 6/30/2014
  • "Zahav never disappoints. The atmosphere is modern and open (feels more like Southern California or Tel Aviv inside than Philadelphia). Excellent, informative waiter with a sense of humor too. The cocktail list is innovative and the wine list is unusual and well-curated. The $39 tasting menu is definitely a great deal. With a party of three, we had more than enough food and got to try out about 3/4 of the menu. The hummus is world class (I've only had better once). The chef uses traditional ingredients in a very imaginative way, great combinations of flavors and spices. There are not very many restaurants that we will revisit again and again, but Zahav is one of them."

  • "We had been trying to go to Zahav for months now and it did not disappoint! All of the dishes were awesome There are plenty of vegetarian plates and they were all so delicious. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "The food is creative and full of flavors that have a party in ones mouth. Wonderful service and great at helping pair foods."

  • "I have heard a lot of good things about Zahav from my Middle-Eastern friends over these years. But my personal experience was not very satisfying. I guess that happens when you have higher expectations. The small plates were extremely small (the smallest in Philly) but flavorful. While the grilled items were a little larger in portions (may be the size of a "small plate" at a standard Philly restaurant) but strikingly unremarkable. The drinks and the cocktails were the only respite in the otherwise lackluster dining experience."

  • "One of the best meals of my life! We went with the chef selection 5 course meal. It was amazing! Succulent lamb, amazing small plates, decadent desserts! Our meal was perfectly timed and our server, Gabriel, was amazing. Checking in at the best times and personable too. Highly recommended!"

  • "Sensational food, great service, nothing but superb."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "First off, the lamb that undergoes a 3 day process of smoking and slow cooking is probably some of the best in human history. I highly recommend the Mesibah. Whatever you get, just be willing to take the eating voyage (which costs at a minimum 40 just for food per person). It's well worth all of the money for the excellent, finely crafted delights culled from across the middle east. You will eat like a king and you'll probably have delicious hearty portions of lamb to take home. The desserts are now also a perfect finish to the eating voyage that is Zahav."

  • "I came for dinner with a colleague while visiting Philadelphia. We came through the back door because we didn't know the neighborhood well, and the staff courteously directed us to the host stand. We were seated right on time per our 7:00 reservation. The restaurant itself is beautiful - high ceilings, unique light fixtures, gorgeous thick wooden tables, and middle-eastern touches throughout without being chintzy. Our server, Gabriel, was knowledgeable and happy to make recommendations that we did not regret! The food and drinks were both top rate, and the pacing of the meal was just right. I'd go back in a heartbeat!"

  • "This was my second visit to Zahav, and it did not disappoint a bit. Our server was great, as were all the helpers. They went out of their way to accommodate all the multiple food allergies that I have, which I had advised about in advance. There was actually much more for me to eat than in many places I have been. I especially loved the eggplant, the bronzino, the short ribs and the vanilla custard."

  • "Zahav was superb. Middle East cuisine meets the 21st century, and the result is great food that satisfies your tastebuds and is pleasant to the eye. We are familiar with the region’s food, and Zahav has created a unique place. Considerate service. Overall score 10 out of 10!"

  • "Zahav is an experience that cannot be described by mere words. You have to go there and experience it for yourself. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there and the staged made it special. Our waiter took the time to festive each dish that we asked about and made suggestions if we couldn't decide. The food is out standing! We ordered the tasting menu and couldn't finish the meal. We would go again just for the hummus and salad. We are trying to come up with a special occasion so we can make our next reservation."

  • "How can it be that each time we go to Zahav it seems to get better. This time, with two friends, we had the tasting menu, one of the best values in town at $39 per person. With four of us, it means we got to taste almost everything on the menu.......and so while it becomes difficult to remember each and every dish, I can say, in all honesty, that every one of them was a unique experience. From the duck hearts to the cauliflower, this was a superb dinner. Deep thanks to Chef Solomanov and his wonderful staff!"

  • "A friend in NY referred us to Zahav. I Went to Zahav with a friend to catch up and enjoy a great dinner. The server, George was excellent. We ordered the Chef's tasting menu which did not disappoint. We were able to sample the best of what the Chef recommended at a very reasonable price of $48 per person. There was no shortage of food. As I'm not familiar with Israeli wine, our server made a great recommendation of an Israeli Pinot Noir. The Sommelier came by to meet and speak with us about Israeli wines. The music was lively and made the ambience a little more fun. It was not too loud for us to relax and catch up. A perfect dining experience for us."

  • "This was my first Zahav experience. I was very impressed and will return. I went with my girlfriend and we both got the tasting menu option, which is great for 2 people for a meal as you can share a lot of the dishes for a good price."

  • "It was out third time at Zahav and our expectations were exceeded yet again! I was the only vegetarian of our group of four and it was a perfect fit for all of our dietary preferences. We're already looking forward to our fourth visit."

  • "This was the first time we dined here. We were a party of 4, and ordered the chef's menu. The small plates were predominately veggies prepared in ways we had never tried before. Delicious. We were served the smoked lamb for the meat course, it was fabulous! The service was excellent as well. We will definitely return, looking forward to it."

  • "Zahav is truly a unique experience. Its allure is not only found in the name and its reputation, but also in its unqiue cuisine. Zahav is unquestionably amongst the higher-end restaurants in Philly but undoudtedly deserves the credit. The lamb is absolutely incredible and the modern-Israeli tapas-style dishes are an incredible pairing. I eat out often in the city and this experience by far and above has exceeded all of my expectations!"

  • "The food was fantastic! This was our first time here and we loved everything we tried. Staff was courteous and accommodating. Our 3-year-old and 16-month-old enjoyed the food as well (they're pretty adventurous for their age). Not a typical family restaurant and I was worried we were dressed too casually but we were fine. I highly recommend this place!"

  • "When you start planning your next visit before you even order there are too many exciting menu items to choose from, that's a good sign. And the food did not disappoint. Delicious , inventive combinations of med cuisine."

  • "The selection of "salatim," made a perfect appetizer. The variety of small plates -- yemeni beef, grilled duck hearts, kibbe, lamb merguez, sweetbread schnitzel. etc. were unusually seasoned and delicious. The Marble Rye, made with rye whiskey infused with pumpernickel and caraway, is a great cocktail. Service excellent with some bonus items from the kitchen -- delicious salmon rolls and a marvelous rhubarb dessert. Noise level a little higher than I like. The only and very minor downside was the moldy, goldy rock and roll on the sound system. One caveat: the location is a tad obscure. Our cab driver was hopelessly lost, but the Zahav staff over my cell phone got us to the front door. If you are in Philadelphia, don't miss this."
