Diner Reviews
  • "Very fresh and high quality sushi including fatty tuna, salmon and yellowtail. I highly recomend the chef's choice for sashimi - generous and beautifully presented sashimi plate. The wait staff are well trained and provide very good detail about each dish. Definitely worth getting AWAY from the din and crowds on the Strip, and enjoying such high quality food in a quiet and catering atmosphere."

  • "Found Yonaka through Open Table. The reviews were accurate! We ordered both the 7 & 9 course tasting menus. It was perfect for five. We each had a piece of everything. The deserts were incredible!"

  • "The restaurant was clean, service was very good and food was excellent. The dishes were creative, delicious and fresh. The only one piece of advice I'd give would be to provide for a full bar service. The beers, wine and sake selection was decent but an expanded bar selection of shochu, more sakes and liquor would be great."

  • "I was invited back to the restaurant after a several month absence via a call. It was surprising but showed a level of caring and marketing effort that I appreciated. A couple weeks later when I came, the waiter said he recognized me from my first visit (7 months ago) and whether that was actually true or not, it was nice. We were also comped a couple of items as a goodwill gesture for something not having been real fresh the second time, which was much appreciated. Jax the Marketing Manager was warm and welcoming as usual and we had a nice chat. I am such a foodie and while I eat out constantly, there are so many restaurants in town to check out that I am not often a regular at any one place but Yonaka may well be on that small list now..."

  • "Their tasting menu is the way to go. Each plate was better than the next! Thank you one of the best meals I ever had the pleasure of eating."

  • "High points included the brussel sprouts and sake-orenji. However the sushi was disappointing. The rice was a bit too compressed and the fish was on the dry side. Would stick to the non-sushi dishes which were very creative"

  • "All sushi lovers should try this restaurant at least once while visiting Las Vegas. It's only a few miles away from the strip and the food is fresh, delicious, and fabulous!"

  • "We were looking for good Japanese and, knowing nothing about Las Vegas, turned to OpenTable for recommendations. We were pleased to find Yonaka. When we arrived we were a little worried to find the restaurant in a shopping center, but worries were quickly dispelled upon entering this great little restaurant. We were greeted warmly and soon were getting into one of the best Japanese meals we've ever enjoyed. We are not new to this genre, so can say with confidence you will be pleasantly surprised by this excellent food. Very highly recommended, we will return on next trip to Vegas!"

  • "What a great find a short drive from the strip. The food was outstanding with an imaginative mix of traditional Japanese and fresh fruits and vegetables. We were not familiar with "modern" Japanese but this was wonderful. All of the staff very very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back on our next Vegas trip."

  • "We had the tasting menu which was pretty darned delicious. The only exception was the rib course - these were quite fatty so not great. All the raw fish items were fantastic. The only drawback of this restaurant is the location: a colorless strip mall (about 10 minute cab drive off the Strip). The interior is nice - clean and modern. Casual dress is fine. It was quiet when we were there, but the restaurant was almost empty, so not sure how noisy it would be with a full house."

  • "Great high concept Japanese with outstanding sushi and small plates. They take their sake very seriously here and have a well chosen list of wines as well."

  • "This place is amazing and original. Go here before you go anywhere else. This was in the top 5 meals I've ever had and the service was excellent. The staff were all interested in providing a great dining experience. There are so many over the top places in Vegas and Yonaka is a breath of fresh air."

  • "Not only was everything we tried absolutely delicious, it was presented as an art piece. We had the crispy brussels sprouts to start and the 7 course omakase tasting menu. It was all we could hope for and more! Wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves fresh food deliciously prepared with exciting new flavor combinations."

  • "This was one of the greatest experiences in dining I have had in a long time. The attention to details in this whole experience were over the top it was AWESOME!!!!!!! The Menu was a great surprise, very well explained and to the point. Pricing is excellent for what I ordered I should have paid 3 times what I paid. the atmosphere and ambience is great for adult dining. My husband and I just loved the service they were very attentive to keeping glasses filled and the table clean and orderly which I loved we came in at 5pm and left at 7:15 they served course by course which means they waited till you finished each course. Each was an experience in the art of food and the respect of the food then the love of food."

  • "I love this restaurant for the unique offerings and incredible flavorful dishes they have. This is the #1 sushi restaurant in Vegas, hands down. From sashimi offerings to hot dishes, Yonaka has something for every taste, along with new adventures for those willing to take the ride."

  • "Loved this place! We had the nine-course tasting menu, and although it was wonderful and I think a good value given the quality of the food, it was probably too much food. Next time I will go a la carte, and there will be a next time! Worth the trip to Vegas! And don't miss the uni special if they have it and the Chocobeet desert....yum!!!"

  • "Found this restaurant actually on "Open Table"… nice off the strip location at Decatur and Flamingo. When we arrived, they didn't have our reservation (booked online with open table) but they were quick to accommodate. Very helpful and attentive staff, easy explanations of the menu and suggestions based on our taste. Restaurant is on the smaller side, very neat, tidy and modern. Don't let the size and accommodations fool you, the food is AMAZING! The flavors that burst forth are something to be had, joyed and shared…we had a great time, I would recommend this establishment to anyone. Be sure to order the "crispy calamari"…. its nothing like I have ever tasted before… the taste that come out of that bowl…. WOW!"

  • "Yonaka was a bit too traditional for me. The sushi and sashimi were too fishy for me. Not for beginners. The brussell sprouts were the best dish we had - incredible!"
    Dined on 1/17/2014
  • "Although we chose Yonaka because it ranked #1 for sushi on two different review sites, we were nonetheless pleasantly surprised at just how wonderful and inventive the food was. The wait staff was helpful and attentive. Several of the items elicited outbursts such as "Amazing!" and "Unbelievably good!" from one or more of us. We enjoyed the 7-course tasting menu, and I highly recommend it for your first visit. Their fish was some of the freshest I've ever had anywhere. The clever twists on traditional presentations were amazing, and the interesting new flavors we enjoyed left us wanting to return soon."

  • "I am a frequent sushi eater, so I will say upfront that my standards are fairly high for sushi restaurants. I was entertaining clients this particular evening, so I was looking for something really nice. The OpenTable reviews for Yokana were very good, and highlighted as being 5-star and rated best in Vegas for 2013 (can't remember by who). Upon arriving, the first impression is that the location is not impressive and the interior completely underwhelms. Sterile decor. The menu was just ok. Nothing unique or creative, limited roll selection. The sushi was decent but not great. Prices were high for the quality of the food and environment. Would not recommend this place if you are looking for something higher end like I was."

  • "surprise, surprise very good - bordering on excellent (but not Nobu - let's be real) off strip - for 1/3 the price took a huge group here because everything was full at CES - super happy with our meal. The fish was perfect - much flown in from Japan - and the dashi was surprisingly rich. recommended"

  • "I enjoyed the various foods we ate and their representation. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of their menu, which made our dining experience very pleasurable. I am vebally sharing my view of this dining experience with all of my friends."

  • "I have to say that the food definitely lives up to the hype. Some of the combinations literally took our breath away---the ingredients, textures, and freshness all popped in the mouth. This kind of quality is rare, and who would have expected it in this location! The servers/hosts were very friendly and gracious, but that couldn't compensate for an overall lack of efficiency that found our food arriving in spits and starts....after nearly a year, this place should be in a better groove, and one that can handle its success. The ambience is fine (good music), but could be more comfortable given the two-hour dining time. Bottom line: food this good deserves better, but don't let that stop you from going."

  • "The menu had some interesting flavours. Some dishes we had worked well together, others were a bit off or could be perfected with a change in preparation. I really liked the Sake Orenji, great tasting! I did not like the Pokuyaki - it was too fatty and would be better if the Pork was crispier. I did like the apple, fennel and pork flavour together. We had the fresh uni and it was not only pretty but very tasty. The Brussels sprouts were good as well, and the Ishiyaki was another winner. Only disappointment was that they were out of scallops that night, so no Hotateyaki."

  • "We decided to try something new for our annual End of the Year Dinner and settled on Yonaka Modern. It was a pleasant surprise! The décor though minimal is modern and warm. The service impeccable. Each dish was carefully crafted - appealingly presented and all tasted delicious. The flavor and ingredient combinations were creative and unique. Everything was good but you Must try the "Greenie" dessert - a splendid end to a wonderful meal. We will return."

  • "The food very good. Some dishes better than others. It's great that you can order small plates and find what you like best. Definitely try the brussel sprouts. Got mistakenly overcharged but they caught it as we were about to leave, so it came out fine. Would definitely go back."

  • "We went there based on the yelp reviews and we are surprised to find out it's actually one of the best Japanese restaurants we have been to. The fish was very fresh and the presentation of the dishes were all impressive. The server was very attentive too. I would highly recommend people who loves Japanese food to give it a try here. The price wasn't bad either, for 4 of us, it was 158 after tax."

  • "The food was great. We ordered the 6 course tasting menu which was the best and easiest way for us to try different things on the menu. It was perfect for two people. For the quality and presentation it is totally worth it. Would highly recommend it and will definitely return."

  • "First visit, went during happy hour, found menu interesting and delightful. Everything very tasteful and well presented. Would recommend. If quantity is priority would not recommend."

  • "Ate here shortly before Christmas. The food was very good, especially a meyer lemon marinated yellowtail sashimi dish. Ordered a few sushi rolls to go along with the omakase, which was a good idea as you get little rice with the multi-course meal. Everything was very fresh. The place was decorated nicely, very clean, with an excellent, helpful, and attentive wait staff. All in all, a very good restaurant and under priced compared to its competitors on and off the strip."

  • "The chefs used some really great combinations of flavors in their food. We had the sashimi omakase and the toro just melted in your mouth. The fish is very fresh and it's hard to believe that you can have such good flavors in the middle of a desert. The waiter told us that the brussel sprouts will be the best we've tasted and he was right. All the portions was enough to share by the six of us. We also had their dessert called "greenies" and it was a green tea brownie with strawberry and basil ice cream. Even those of us who said we were very full, still had to have a bite! A real gem in Las Vegas"

  • "I just came from Tokyo prior to my trip back to Vegas. I found the fish at Yonaka Modern Japanese to be just as fresh. I would recommend this restaurant to family and friends. The food is not based on quality and freshness and not made up with unnecessary sauces. Service was excellent."

  • "The chef is incredibly creative and the presentation and taste of everything was over the top. If you love fresh sushi and sashimi, this place beats every other sushi restaurant in town. We celebrated my 60th birthday here and we could not have been more happy with the food. Everyone at the table was raving about every dish that came out. The deals on the Happy Hour are great and the prices otherwise are reasonable."
