Diner Reviews
  • "This is a small, busy restaurant in the heart of Woodside. At a recent brunch the food was fine (eggs benedict and pancakes) but nothing special. The waiter disappeared when we needed to pay our check and go, which was rather annoying, but the manager brought it as soon as we asked him. There are better places in the Palo Alto area, so we probably won't be hurrying back soon."

  • "We got together to visit and linger over a lovely brunch. They didn't hurry us, the service was very good and it is in a great location."

  • "The Woodside Bakery & Café is one of our "go to" places when we don't want to or don't have time to cook. The service is friendly and the food is good. The menu is not very varied, nor does it change frequently, but the "old standbys" do the trick. We often try the specials and are rarely disappointed -- they offer something different at a fair price. We live in between Palo Alto and Woodside and it is much easier to find parking here than in downtown Palo Alto. We feel very fortunate to have such a good restaurant so close by."

  • "This place is generally a pretty good place to take people, although their menu could use a little more variety, in my opinion."

  • "We had heard of this place from a friend and decided to try it before we went to the Pioneer Saloon to hear a friend play. We were not expecting a lot from the "bakery", we were pleasantly surprised with all the choices and the Maitre d even offered to go to the car and get my wine I had left there. (it was raining) Can't ask for more than that. There were four of us and we all had something different, and each dish was delicious. Took dessert home, and what a great late night snack."

  • "I have dined at Woodside Bakery and Cafe many times but this was the first time for my husband and he wondered why I never brought him before. He loved it as did I. We sat on the back patio area and had a great meal. Our servicer was great and I took her advice on the Ham and Avocado Panini and was happy I did. With a choice of 4 sides, I went with their signature Spinach Mushroom soup that was delicious as well. My husband had a make your own omelet with a Banana Pancake, he thoroughly enjoyed both. We will be frequenting in more often now that he know about it!"

  • "I met a long time friend for lunch to catch up on each others lives. We appreciated not being rushed and the waiter's attentiveness. We both had the quiche with salad which we enjoyed. This is a favorite restaurant of my friend and I understand why. We scheduled an early lunch to avoid trying to find a parking space which can be a problem after noon."

  • "Booking was easily done online, parking space was available nearby. We could sit outside to enjoy the sunshine while we had brunch, that was lovely for a morning. The menu had enough choices that we couldn't choose all that we wanted to try, the food came in a timely manner and the service from the staff was excellent! Got a little noisier past noon when the families with kids came along, but it was a great place for couples to start the day trip!"

  • "This place is normally pretty decent. I like the risotto when not dieting. They obviously burned my wife's apple crisp though which isn't a crime in and of itself, but they tried to pass it off anyway with a disclaimer. Needless to say after tasting, this was sent back. I actually prefer the old menu and the old management better. For a better dining experience, try Bucks next door."

  • "Had a salad with salmon for lunch, tasted great. Indoors is noisy for a lunch meeting, but the patio in the back was nice. Would be great for brunch or a coffee break."

  • "This is a special place combining the atmosphere and aromas of a bakery/pastry shop with the sophistication of a fine but casual restaurant. Good wine list and an assortment of local brews on draft. I would go back for the bread...small rounds of hot, fresh artisan bread. Salads and apps were great and my Scampi with Risotto was outstanding. Good assortment of entrees and excellent pizzas. We left our table to step into the pastry area to select our desert. Best blueberry pie with crumble crust served with ice cream was a wonderful finish to a pleasant evening."

  • "Fantastic food as always. We ate outside under the heaters which was enjoyable as always. The Salmon was excellent. The clam linguine was good although al dente."

  • "We had a nice lunch. The place was really busy, luckily we had a reservation. The food was very good. I ordered a chicken sandwich on ciabatta, but it came on sliced white sourdough. The waiter blamed another waiter saying they gave my sandwich to someone else which was a lie. I changed the menu sandwich by adding avocado and holding tomato--that is not how it ususally comes. My sandwich had the wrong bread but all the other stuff I changed. Being lied to soured my experience. Just aopologize and makeit right don't lie to your customers!"

  • "Seeing the cloud-covered sky and the black birds waiting on the roof plus wonderful warm mushroom spinach soup made lunch so special. The heaters were just right . The salad dressing on the cranberry apple choice was perfect. We loved it!"

  • "I will preface this by saying we were not the best diners. It was hard to find parking so I was waiting for my friend for about 10 minutes. But the server didn't check on us at all during the meal. I also think my egg dish was supposed to come with toast and potatoes, but he never brought them. He came to pick up the bill and I hadn't signed yet, he looked irritated and sulked off never to be seen again."

  • "We really enjoyed our brunch here. The place is a bit cramped, but the staff was warm and welcoming. We made reservations for 9:30 and didn't really need them, but if you come at 10am or after, there could be a long line. The bakery has walk up seating, but it appears that large groups (there was a running group and cycling group when we were there) that took up most of the communal tables. The menu offers a nice variety of breakfast options and the complimentary 'bread' is wonderful. It's more like a Yorkshire pudding, so with the melting butter and homemade jam, it's delightful! I very much enjoyed my omelet and my husband liked his frittata. It was a bit 'flatter' than what he's used to, but it was fresh and tasty!"

  • "In the future, would request indoor seating for dinner, especially during the winter. The heat lamps were not working properly and it was very uncomfortable to enjoy what turned out to be a delicious dinner. Someone did try to work on them but were not fully successful. This was our first time for dinner, having had lunch here many times. The service was very slow although it did appear that they were short staffed but with the cold air, heaters not working properly and slow service it was rather disappointing. We did request to come inside to have our dessert as this was a birthday celebration. We were immediately seated inside and dessert was exceptional."

  • "The food is good overall. However, we had a table very close to the cooking area which was loud. I'd like to try the outdoor dining next time."

  • "Always wonderful! Warm and cosy inside during the winter, delightful outside in the warmer weather. If the evening cools quickly, the heat lamps will take care of you. My husband and I have never had a disappointing meal, neither have any of the friends who sometimes join us. Try it!"

  • "Perfect meeting spot when you are coming from the North to meet friends from Siilicon Valley. The host was very accommodating to changing my reservation time and group size. We had freshly baked bread upon arrival that was the best! Then we each ordered a unique dish an everyone was more than satisfied with their fresh pasta, fish and risotto. A bottle of Rombauer and too many desserts to chose from made for a perfect evening for our party of six."

  • "Had heard of WB and reserved to meet an elderly cousin I had not seen in more than 40 years. She was visiting her daughter who suggested it as nice & convenient for all of us. We were shown to a table on the patio with no time to peruse the menu before being asked to order. Waiter returned very disgruntled at the delay. After a little over an hour during which dishes were removed brusquely before others finished, the waiter moved a table right next to us - making it hard to get out and we "got the clue" to leave! Our feeling was:that because we didn't order wine, or specialty coffee drinks, and maybe because two of us were elderly and not glamorous Woodside, affluent matrons, we weren't welcome. True restaurant of class, do not do this!"

  • "We have been going to the Woodside Bakery & Cafe forever and have always found the meals satiating and enjoyable. The restaurant is small - there is an outside area that is nice in the spring and summer - so it can get very noisy. Despite the frequency of happy diners we find that it is an enjoyable choice for dinner with our children, friends or just ourselves. The soups are savory and the salads fresh and tasty. The pastas are delicious and they have a wonderful pizza oven. For a casual but satisfying meal I highly recommend the Woodside Bakery & Cafe."

  • "Staff was helpful in moving outdoor heaters closer to patrons who wanted more warmth on a cool winter day and large umbrellas to provide shade from bright sun. Outdoor seating was the better option. Indoor tables were too close together."

  • "The baked goods is absolutely delicious, my favorites are the elephant ears and the macaron cookies. The dining experience is just as good, food is quick and home style. The service is always great."

  • "Service and cuisine are variable depending upon who is managing the place, both in terms of service and food. It's a reliable local place. Never "bad" -- always a convenient alternative to cooking at home or bringing in take-out food."

  • "We booked reservation on Open Table and since I did not know one had to specify inside or outside table, we were seated seated in the outside portion of the cafe. Too cold & the heaters were not working, so we requested an inside table. The hostess stated that I had not specified inside, there was not one table available so we were seated in the crowded bakery area. One half hour later, we asked for the manager, who did quickly find a inside table for us. Two suggestions, first the hostess should have been able to do the same thing that the manager did customer happy and Open Table web site should note that if one needs to specify inside or outside reservations for this restuarant"

  • "An interesting menu, not so well executed. Service was generally friendly and prompt. Brie appetizer was terrific. Asian chicken salad was mostly cabbage and without any flavor. Spinach salad was overdressed."

  • "I've been here before, made reservations, but was not seating out in the patio, I did not request it, but that is where everyone wants to sit. Inside was HOT, NOISY, and was hard to hold a conversation. They also did not have some items available on their menu, like a Cabrese salad?. The waiter didn't even advise an alternative so one guest was stuck trying to come up with something else. The quiche is wonderful!!!highly recommend it."

  • "We sat outside and it was freezing. I thought the heaters would cover all of us. There were 6 of us and we sat under the red awning. NO heat and all of us left frozen including the men. Seating outside does not work in the winter. One more thing, what is with the TV? Seems so odd during dinner and out doors. A Good thing at the bar but dinner is a time to spend together not watch TV. Nice place during the summer months but winter needs to be indoors or get a lot more heaters."
