Diner Reviews
  • "Overall it was a good dinner. However, some reason the food was burned a little bit?"

  • "We had such a wonderful time dining at Wink this week. Everything was perfectly executed and we left feeling like we had enjoyed a beautiful meal and built a great memory. Thank you for everything!"

  • "I love Wink. It's definitely a "special occasion" kind of a place-- they'll even specify that special occasion by naming it at the top of each menu: "Happy Birthday ___!" A wonderful personal touch. The most expensive option is the 7 course tasting menu ($98 without wine). There is also a 5 course tasting menu (both of these require full table participation) and a la carte options. The food itself is always delightful-- small portions, but perfectly timed and plated so you feel like you can enjoy every bite without getting over-full. The wait staff is wonderful and very helpful, particularly with wine recommendations. The noise level can really vary depending on where you're seated-- from very quiet to a bit loud. I'm not sure why that is!"

  • "We did the 5 course tasting menu which was fun. Small portions but they add up and you definitely won't leave hungry. Recommend for special occasions."

  • "I have eaten here twice and loved each experience. The food is unique, creative and delicious. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. For example our waiter gave us a recommendation for a wine from a region we don't normally enjoy wines from, but the winet suited our tastes wonderfully. He was happy to answer questions about the menu and speak about the food. Most recently I went for my anniversary and they personalized the menu for us. It was a sweet and friendly touch. I have no complaints at all, all I can really say is that it's in a small location. Wouldn't mind a bit of breathing room between tables. That said, during the meal if you're thinking about anything other than the food you're doing it wrong."

  • "Went to wink for a birthday dinner. Had a great experience. The customer service is top notch! The food was excellent. My only complaint is that the portions are teeny weeny for an expensive price, so be prepared for that. Nevertheless, I would recommend especially for a special occasion."

  • "Had a birthday dinner at Wink, got the 5 course meal each. The service was amazing, they even personalized the menu! We waited for our table at the wine bar, and when a table freed up, they came an got us. The amount of food was just right -- we hate standing up from the table stuffed. We got salad, sashimi, scallop, steak, and cheese plate. So delicious. Can't recommend highly enough."

  • "Do the tasting menu, which was very good. The service was pitched very well, friendly and casual without being pretentious or intrusive (as one expects in Austin). We started in the adjacent Wink wine bar, which has a nice list of excellent wine at a very reasonable price. We bought a bottle there, and moved it over to the restaurant, rather than doing the wine pairings, which we would like to try the next time. We'll be back."

  • "Wink serves great farm to table, interesting dishes. I'd recommend the tasting menu, especially for special occasions. The service is remarkable, with special attention paid to details. The personalized menu with happy birthday written on it and signed by the chef was a special touch. Overall a great experience"

  • "I had a business dinner here and the food was excellent. The service was prompt, pleasant and unobtrusive. It was early on a Wednesday evening so, it was pretty quiet which was good for business conversation. They spread people out; unlike many restaurants which huddle people together to make it more efficient for the servers."

  • "A bit hard to find, so call for specific directions on where to park (hidden behind a larger building). Service was impeccable! Foie gras is amazing and the duck and hanger steak were fabulous. Small portions allow for dessert, which you don't want to miss. I highly recommend the trio to get a taste of a few delicious items."

  • "Appetizers and main courses are stellar. Desserts a bit lacklustre. Not much to recommend in terms of setting, decor, ambience. Very noisy on weekend nights since tables are placed close to each other. Our compliments to the chef!"

  • "Great "designer" food, terrific service, and fun atmosphere. Small place feels intimate and energetic. Smaller, pricier portions, but worth it for a classy foodie experience."

  • "My husband and I come here for all of our special occasions and then some. Our experience at wink is always wonderful, from being greeted by Mark, the long time host, to feeling like we are the only table our server is assisting. It's a personal experience very time and I cannot say enough about the food!! It's creative, beautiful and absolutely delicious. The chef knows how to create the most crisp, clean tasting plate of food no matter what your order. Simply incredible."

  • "We have dined at this restaurant about 8-10 times and always go there for celebratory events, i.e. birthdays, anniversaries, etc. We always thoroughly enjoin the dinner at Wink and would highly recommend it."

  • "Decided to take my girlfriend to Wink for her birthday not only did she enjoy the dinner and experience but the entire staff was involved in making the celebration special for her! From a customized menu with a birthday message to the entire cooking staff signing a menu for her to take home! This was a wonderful experience for me and my girlfriend! The dinner was tasteful and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful."

  • "Wanted to escape the SXSW madness for something tasty. An earthy mushroom soup with a hint of mustard and a perfectly grilled piece of foie gras with its juices and jammy macerated berries soaking a piece of marvelous rye. I had one glass of Sancerre and, yes, succumbed to some hot bread and butter. Yum. The hubby is still raving about the chicken with baby turnips. I didn't get a taste."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Wink, we had the seven course chef's menu and were happy & positively surprised by each dish. The wine pairings were well chosen as well."

  • "When I made reservations for Wink, I mentioned we were celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked in everyone we encountered wished us happy anniversary. The owner came over to our table and gave us personalized menus that wished us Happy Anniversary. The atmosphere is charming, staff is spectacular and the food is fabulous. Best meal we have had since moving to Austin over 3 years ago."

  • "The service and the meal were both outstanding. Our server was very knowledgeable and was spot on with her recommendations. The fact that nearly all of the food is locally sourced was a big plus. It was our first time there and definitely will be back."

  • "This place is hidden in a corner of a strip mall, so don't be surprised if you pass it the first time. Perfect place for a special occasion with a significant other."

  • "First time at WINK. The food was amazing and the service was great too."

  • "Wink is amazing! The outside may have you wondering as you park and walk by the dry cleaners but inside those doors awaits a great restaurant. We have been twice and each time has been noteworthy. Food is interesting and delicious but on the smaller portion size for us Texans. Service is always impeccable and the attention to detail from the staff is impressive. They are very patient and explain the food with great knowledge. With so many choices in Austin Wink is a place you can't miss."

  • "We did the 7 course menu and everything was great until we realized we had been there almost 3 hours!!! I get it, is cooked to order but almost 3 hours! It took a long time between meals and the chairs they have are not very comfortable specially for a 3 hour long dinner. Duck was good, veal was ok.. Everything else was top notch."

  • "From Mark, the host, greeting our entire party by name to the low key, but elegant and appropriate service, to the nice pace of the amazing plates, the entire evening was fantastic. The plates were well presented and perfect sized. The only thing that could make it even better would be a martini as I don't drink much wine. Highly recommended."

  • "We celebrated a birthday here. We all had the testing menu (my wife had the vegetarian menu) with the wine pairing. The food was excellent, the pairings on target, and the service was even better. I really cannot say enough about the service. Great experience and a great celebration. Thanks Wink!"

  • "went above and beyond what I had imagined. Our absolute favorite was the duck! Having never tried duck before this just seemed to melt in your mouth, releasing flavor upon flavor upon flavor. We absolutely couldn't get enough of this one. Next time we dine with you guys, one of us is getting the full platter and we're splitting it!! Can't wait until next time. Thank you all for the hospitality and thanks also for allowing us to stay even after everyone had gotten up and left. ::APPLAUSE::"

  • "Scallops as appetizer was phenomenal. Elk was excellent. Portions may seem small but very satisfying and filling. Definitely deserves a shot on list of fine dining options in Austin."

  • "We celebrated a birthday at Wink recently and chose the 7 course tasting menu with the wine pairings. Absolutely amazing food and the pairings were right on. Wink is one of our top 3 special occasion restaurants in Austin."

  • "Delicious food. Had the 5 course tasting menu. Very delicious. Swapped out the cheese plate for dessert. Glad I did with how filling the plates were. Very pricey though. Worth going to atleast once."

  • "Loved it. Thank you for creating this place. Great food and great service. Vibe is special, but still comfortable. Dishes are unique and creative, and so good. LOVED the venison."

  • "Went on Valentines Day with husband and our friends. We've tried a lot of great restaurants in Austin - so was hoping that this wouldn't disappoint. And it didn't. The effusive greeting from the owner made us feel at home right away and we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and conversation in Wink's cozy bar. Dinner was excellent - we went with the five course tasting menu - a must for a Wink novices. Sashimi, duck breast, seared scallops and hanger steak - followed by a nice sampling of cheese. The location is tucked back a little off of N. Lamar - so you might have to circle the block till you find it. And it's pretty loud - so don't go for a quiet conversation. Go for the food - you'll enjoy."

  • "If you are looking for a fantastic prix fixe meal at a top-tier restaurant with flawless wine pairings and service, look no further. The scallops were flawless, the venison was not "gamy", and every dish was the perfect size and "lightness" to make it possible to go through all seven courses without that "overstuffed" feeling. One warning: it is pricey, so be prepared. But it is oh so worth it!"

  • "We have been Wink fans for the past 7 -8 years. We quickly graduated from the dinner menu to the 5 course tasting menu, and then on to the 7 course tasting very quickly. Every course brings flavors that just complement each other not to speak of the perfect wine pairings! The special experience, each time is worth every penny!"

  • "Went for that wonderful day of celebration called amateur hour. I mean, Valentine's day. Knowing most places cut back on quality, service, etc. because they want to feed as many people as they can, I was expecting some quality degradation. My wife and I ordered the 7 course tasting with wine pairing. Thankfully, there didn't appear to be any quality issues. Food quality, plate sizes, presentation, etc. was very good. Having been to many higher end restaurants, like The French Laundry, I have a wide range of experiences now. If TFL was an A+, Wink would be an easy B+, factor in Austin, TX and not a whole lot of people create this type of food experience, it bumps them up to an A. Wife and I had a wonderful time and are very happy"

  • "This is a 3.5 star restaurant at best. Taste of the food is strong, everything else falls short. My fiance and I had the 7-course tasting menu and it took right at three hours on a Thursday night. Portions on the tasting menu are very small, two bites at most - but the flavor is done well. If it had not been for the snails-pace of service, we would not have filled up on as much bread and drinks to have left the restaurant with full stomachs. Glad we finally tried this place, but probably won't go back. Not nearly enough bang for the buck at this price point."

  • "Enjoyed 5 course with pairing albeit a bit $$$ Scallops were fantastic. Sushi not so much. Great pairings. Liked Jo Jo, our server"

  • "We went to try the vegetarian tasting menu for Valentine's Day. The food was excellent however there was no vegetarian form of protein during the tasting. The main Brussel Greens were in three of the dishes and they were all excellent buy I could not stop thinking of the cost of the ingredients vs the final bill. A table next to use had an exotic protein and I felt we got 4 salads for the same price. So, I rate the food as very good but I the price was far too high. There are so many great restaurants that offer the same quality at half the price. Thanks."
