A word from Westport Cafe & Bar
In Paris, the café serves as the center for social interaction. It’s a place where writers, artists, businessmen, and people of all stripes congregate-- to talk, entertain each other, or simply pass the time while enjoying a basic meal, tea, or coffee. In the same tradition, the American tavern serves as the location for the interchange of news and opinions among townspeople, for the sale of solacing liquors, or perhaps for the incidental sociability. Westport Café & Bar is where Parisian café meets classic American Tavern.

Westport Café & Bar offers an American menu with classic French inspiration and preparations. Simple, quality ingredients are braised, grilled, poached, confit, or cured in the same old-world technique that has been practiced by the masters for years. Filet of branzino a la mueniere, pommes frites, sauce béarnaise, roasted chicken grand mere, sauce béchamel, croque monsieur, salads nicoise and lyonnaise.

We look forward to your visit.

Diner Reviews
  • "Perfect for a romantic Sunday brunch. Delicious food & great service!"

  • "We always enjoy the Westport Café and Bar although my wife and I hadn't been there for a while. The bistro is located in the Westport area which has an active bar and restaurant scene and people watching is always part of the fun. Many younger people with their fashion statements and ink as well as all other ages and types. We love to share the mussels as an appetizer, this time the mussels with roasted tomato and shallots. My wife had the spicy carrot soup and an arugula salad and I had the pasta au poive with a soft fried egg on top. Very tasty. Can't wait to go back."

  • "We were a group of four that visited this small restaurant. The curried mussels and ravioli stuffed with peas are excellent starters. These are some of the best we have seen, especially for the reasonable prices. I think that the mussels, which arrived in a large bowl, were around $12. We all had either the filet, steak or short ribs and they were cooked well. The wine list is small, but the selections are reasonably priced. There is also a good after dinner selection of sweets to try. I wish that they had an espresso machine to finish off the meal, but overall, we found that this is a very nice French inspired restaurant. It is also easy on the wallet, so we will be back to visit the Westport Cafe & Bar again. Great job!"

  • "Never have a bad time there, food and service is always good."

  • "We arrived and our hostess seemed to be everywhere but in the present. I felt like whatever I said to her was not getting through and found myself clarifying what I was saying. The waitress was fine - she seemed to know the menu but wasn't the friendliest and like the hostess, I got the impression that she wasn't sure she wanted to be there. The food - It took 45 minutes from taking the order to being served. The shrimp and polenta were good - not great. Overall, maybe they were all having an off day - I will credit them that one and will try one more time down the road but as a whole, not impressed. Just another place to eat where the people really don't care if you are there or not."

  • "A group of 4 had a very enjoyable dining experience. We shared a bowl of mussels which were some of the best we have ever had. The entrees were all very good and the Artic Char was especially good. We will return."

  • "Went with another couple and was inspired by menu and reviews, but there were several things that were just off that night. We ordered the mussels and half of the order was served with closed mussels. Cocktails are small for the price. They were out of the scallop risotto. The tuna salad was overcooked. Things listed on the online menu are no longer on the menu. Kind of a let down. Westport needs a good place with this menu that can deliver."

  • "The Westport Cafe is shaped like a bent dumbbell; dining room at either end, with a hallway between and a couple of tables there. We were seated in the "hallway" which was extremely noisy, having hard tile and brick walls on either side. I started with escargot which turned out to be the usual 6 snails in the six dimples of a ceramic dish. The were literally swimming in a butter sauce, far more than I'm used to. They tasted okay, but that butter.... My friend had the Boudin sausage which she found a bit tough. She next had an undistinguished Croque Monsieur with frites. The person who sent those out had a VERY heavy hand with the salt shaker. Tasty frites, but that salt.... I had the Tuna Nicoise salad that I liked a great deal!"

  • "I was browsing Open Table for dinner on the spur of the moment and, based on the reviews, took a chance with a place I had heard nothing about from friends. So pleased! We shared escargot for an appetizer then share bites of our dinners. I had the trout and my son had the hamburger. Both were top notch. We even splurged on dessert and enjoyed the profiteroles."

  • "My wife and daughter wanted to go out and I decided to try somewhere new. Things seemed good with the complementary Bellinis, and we were looking forward to our entrees. My wife ordered the Norwegian Benedict, which was really quite good. Our daughter ordered the biscuits with sausage gravy, which was at least inoffensively tasteless. The biscuits were more the texture of English muffins, and the sausage had little flavor. My Crepe Madame was so filled with mustard that there was almost no other flavor. We also had almost a tablespoonful of hash browns with each of our meals. It may have been just a bad day, but we were disappointed."

  • "A French Restaurant in Westport! Excellent service, inspired menu, and superb food. This is truly a gem in a city that generally does not appreciate French Cuisine. It is relatively small so make reservations and an amazing happy hour."

  • "It is a very attractive restaurant and bar. The staff is quite friendly and accommodating to requests for changes to choices on the menu. The food is good and is moderately priced."

  • "We came here for my wife's birthday and were pleasantly surprised for our first visit to Westport Cafe. She had the Arctic char while I had the burger with gruyere and grilled onion. The char was cooked perfectly along with green beans and spinach. The burger was ordered medium and was cooked accordingly - the onions and gruyere were great with a delicious mustard-based sauce on the side. Service was quick and friendly. We had a nice Pinot Noir at a reasonable price as well. Needless to say, this was one of the best meals we've had in Westport and will be back to try more of their tantalizing offerings."

  • "We love Westport Cafe for many occasions, but Bastille Day is extra celebratory! 3-course prix fix with wine pairings was perfect. The staff staged the event perfectly too."

  • "Ordered the lemon pancakes and apple fritters. YUM. Pancake expert here and one of the best pancake experiences ever. Ordered a Bloody Mary and it was one of the best I've had as well. I went with my sister's and 15 month old nephew for brunch. There are not enough booths and the tables are too close together. If comfort factor doesnt bother you...not a big deal. The host saw we had a toddler and didn't offer a high chair and we had to get it ourselves. It's kid friendly to a extent but it would have been more accommodating had host helped with the high chair instead of us having to hunt one down. However our server was very nice and attentive. Overall it was a good food experience and will be back."

  • "Had planned to go somewhere for brunch and drinking on what was supposed to be a rainy Saturday. The good was quickly served and tasty. I had the Norwegian eggs Benedict which came with a complementary brunch cocktail. There was a great open bar area, but unfortunately with a busy brunch time it wasn't a good place to just chill and have a few drinks"

  • "This was a Friday evening dinner. Very good service. The ricotta gnocchi starter was excellent. My seared tuna salad was ok but nothing special. My wife really liked the grilled cheese sandwich. Good pour on the wines. Narrow small space but reasonable comfortable -- several tables front along services or bathroom areas."

  • "They were very nice when we called to say we'd be late due to traffic. The restaurant was not crowed when we got there and so it was not an issue. Our waitress was knowledgeable and pleasant and listened, gave us time to make choices and was attentive to refilling water and any other needs we might have had. Even at this 6:45 time they were out of a couple of menu items, which was a bit dismaying. Food was tasty, portions were good--not huge, but definitely not tiny as some may think in French restaurants. It was a good experience."

  • "Our party of two enjoyed Saturday brunch. The Crepe was delicious! The eggs Benedict was just as tasty. Absolutely must have their Mimosa! THE best!"

  • "The modern cocktail list is to die for. I recommend the trout, the steak, and the berries with cream."

  • "Food and service was outstanding. The noise level is loud when full and as Westport goes it is hard to find parking. All said I would go back in a heart beat. Try the pea ravioli as an app. I could eat 3 bowls of that for dinner."

  • "Me and my wife ate here on a Saturday date night. We were seated up front, while OK for a drink, the table was too small to eat dinner at. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced, same for wine. Loved the muscles with blue cheese and bacon, the black truffle risotto, and the croissant bread pudding. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. We'll be back again."

  • "Went to Westport Café and Bar with a group of girlfriends; night out without the kids. Our seating arrangement was a bit awkward as we were a group of five, and were seated at a table for four even though the reservation was for five. The amount of room on the table was tight, and the member of our party that was at the end of the table kept getting bumped by people walking by. Other than that, we had a great time. The food was very good (my scallops were cooked perfectly), the cocktails were quite good (classic but with a unique twist), and the noise level was just right for a group to talk without having to yell to be heard, or worry about being to loud and disturbing other diners."

  • "Great French cafe. Stan mixes a mean cocktail. Arugula salad - awesome. Fish - awesome. Cheese platter app - OK. Coffee is excellent. Always a great choice. "

  • "With so many options now for food in Westport, I still always have the WCB at the top of the list. The atmosphere and friendly staff really stand out to me. They have a great happy hour even on the weekends until 6pm. The food is prepared very well and I always leave happy. I would recommend the WCB to anyone who appreciates good food and drinks as well as great ambiance. "

  • "The food rarely, if ever disappoints. I can always count on a great drink or a fairly priced glass of wine. However, the service is consistently poor, and the half empty salt and pepper shakers are typically dirty. "

  • "We went here for brunch and were a bit underwhelmed. My Benedict was quite bland (it literally tasted like butter and eggs and was less than extraordinary) and left me wishing I had ordered something different. The service here is "laid back" and maybe even to the extreme because I always feel like I'm bothering my server. Overall, I was just underwhelmed by the food and service BUT the cocktails are amazing."

  • "I have been to Westport Cafe and Bar a number of times and each time am so impressed with the fabulous food. It's not overdone to the point of being uncomfortable for a nonfoodie, but it is definitely deserving of a foodie spot. Classic French cuisine goes lighter and modern. Just delicious, fresh food...how can you lose? The wait staff and bartender are charming and unassuming. "

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to try this cozy place for brunch on a late Saturday morning. I ordered the Eggs Norwegian and enjoyed every bite! The mimosa that accompanied my meal was delicious and a nice touch. The location and the vibe of the area is fun and laid back. Our server was friendly, but slow. We had to wait quite a while to be greeted and it took a long time to get our drinks. Overall, I would definitely recommend it and will be returning! "

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants located in the lively Westport area. A varied menu that will satisfy vegetarians and carnivores. The ricotta gnocchi is one of our favorites. The prices are very fair and the portions are the perfect size. Also a good wine selection and many interesting cocktails. Highly recommended!"

  • "Such a cute and charming brunch spot! Had the Eggs Norwegian and it was very tasty! Friends had the biscuits and gravy and said it lacked flavor. Other friend had chicken fried chicken and said it was good. Had a bite of the french toast in it - very yummy! LOVED that a complimentary beverage came with the meal. We all had the bloody mary and two of us liked it and the other two didn't. It had a sweet flavor to it and came with an olive and mini sweet pickle - makes me curious how the other beverages tasted. I really liked the experience and would love to go back!"

  • "We picked this restaurant thru open table because of the location and the mussel selection they had on their menu. The restaurant staff are so nice and accommodating towards providing a great experience. This will definitely not be our last time because we walked away knowing that we had found a gem in the ruff. I do recommend making a reservation."

  • "I love finding new places for brunch in the city and Westport is def has a lot to offer! I met some girlfriends for brunch on Sunday. We had placed a reservation for 3. When we arrived, our table was only for 2 but they soon fixed the situation. I had a mimosa and bellini and they were both fantastic. A drink come with your choice of brunch as well. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes and they were very good, a little over-cooked but very good. One of my friends had the Eggs Norwegian (egg benedict with smoked salmon) and I had a bite. I will def be ordering that the next time, fabulous! It was a cute little place and I will def bring my husband. The waitress wasn't the friendliest but the food made up for it."

  • "We went there with another couple. My husband and I ordered 5 appetizers to share, 2 beers, and the bill was under $40. We were plenty full and got to taste several new things this way including spring pea ravioli which is probably one of the best things I have ever had."

  • "We were needing to catch a bite to eat after the KC Fashion Week runway show. Dining after 11 pm in KC is limited but WCB is always a go to. Having a late night happy hour bar and dinner option is a plus as well."

  • "We had a pleasant and enjoyable brunch. The complimentary breakfast cocktails are a nice touch. The food was good (although not the best brunch in town by a long stretch). But I'd certainly go back. The lemon blueberry pancakes were especially good. The eggs benedict was above average. The omelet was good, although a little plain for my tastes."
