Diner Reviews
  • "The service we received from Ralph was outstanding."

  • "So we spent the day at Grove Park Inn last week, starting with a couple's massage, then we hung out in the Spa pools a while (fun but a bit $$$ for me), then checked into our room before heading to dinner at 7. Our server was fantastic, very personable and likeable, with a good knowledge of the menu. We started with salads, the blue crab salad for me, and a standard garden type salad for her. The salads were accompanied with three types of bread, which were good but not great, and I think I would have preferred if they were served with olive oil rather than butter. Jina got the seared scallops, and I the steak frites. Both were very good and we ate every bit. I proposed soon after (she said yes!), and our waitress took photos. Thanks GPI!"

  • "Superior personal service. Outstanding bartender. The food was as special as the view. Great special occasion spot & perfect place to see all of Asheville's city lights framed by beautiful mountains!"

  • "Kind of disappointed in the food at this restaurant. View is good if you get a window-otherwise so-so."

  • "Wonderful setting with terrific view. Food was very good, and the staff was very friendly, in spite of being slow."

  • "The food was OK at best. The salmon was tasteless farm raised stuff but was prepared well and not overcooked but for 32 bucks give me a good piece of fish. The escargot was in a mushroom cream sauce and was good but not great. The best thing was it was quiet with very good service"

  • "Food was good but not exceptional. A little too pricey for the quality, in my opinion. Glad we tried it but found the food at the Edison the next night to be very good and more reasonably priced."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "Since Omni purchased the Grove Park Inn, all prices have gone up. This restaurant is very pricey. Most of the wines on the wine list were over $200. We struggled to find one under $40.00. If you can afford to spend $200 for a bottle of wine, this place is for you. If not, I would skip this restaurant and go into downtown Asheville for dinner."

  • "We could have chosen one of the many fabulous restaurants in Asheville for this celebration, but we love the Grove Park Inn and the views and character of this hotel and we we wanted to try the newly revamped restaurant. This reincarnation of an upscale and well established restaurant is now modern and clean, but without much style. Same goes for the food. Average beyond compare. And expensive. What could have been a fabulous meal, was not due to the incredible lack of flavor. Nothing really stood out. Bland in fact. Nice presentation, attentive service, but the food needs a boost. But as usual... the view never disappoints!"

  • "We enjoyed Vue. We missed the previous Horizons As they had linens at tables, roses on departure, And a more formal upscale feeling. We were ironically Disappointed with the view as the window architecture Was at eye level. If we stood up the view was Lovely . Had a very tasty fillet mignon. Our server Was warm and friendly. All in all, it was a nice Dinner."

  • "Everything from the ease of reservation (and re-reservation, and oh we changed our minds again re-re-reservation) to the very end of the meal was perfect. The staff was very friendly, polite, and professional. Our server knew the menu better than the people that created it I'm fairly certain. The selection was great, the bread choices were all delicious. Our food came to us in a timely manner, presented beautifully, and tasted like nothing I've had before. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our dinner at Vue 1913. We even had special seating requests that they were able to fulfill for us. We had a wonderful time conversing with the staff and enjoying our romantic dinner for two!"

  • "I ordered the filet medium and it came out well done. When one is paying for an expensive cut of meat, it should be cooked accurately. I am planning to return to his resort but not this restaurant. I would only go to the restaurant if they compensated me for an entree."

  • "My Wife & I really enjoy fine dining & do not mind paying a little more for it and the Vue exceeded our expectations. I settled on the Kobe Beef burger because I have wanted to try Kobe beef since I first heard about it, but I could have picked out several other things & would not have been dissappointed. THis is a fantastic atmosphere & the food is great!"

  • "Food was spot on perfect from the raw bar items to the pasta to the tender, juicy steaks. Perfect presentation and service was 5star quality."

  • "It was bad enough that a chain like Omni purchased the Grove Park Inn and that they had the audacity to rename the 100 year old Icon of WNC, but the dinner menu was absurd. The GPI is a historic landmark of the region so you'd expect the chefs to highlight the abundance of food grown right here. Instead, the menu featured "Washington State" ingredients. When we questioned the bizarre menu we were told, "This is something all Omnis do! We feature a different food regions ." Pushing a cheesy corporate marketing agenda to the exclusion of local farmers is insulting, especially when you are entertaining out of town guests looking for an authentic Asheville experience. Instead of fresh food we ate food shipped 3000 miles on freezer trucks."

  • "It was our 24thanniversary,and I had requested a window seat thru opentable a WEEK before, even stating that our arrival time was flexible if we needed to amend it to accomadate our request for a window table.Upon our arrival not only was our table not ready (it took about 5-6 minutes before it was- not a huge deal, but for this price everything should be flawless). However it was when we were seated at "a window" we were disappointed. They have about 8-10 tables lining the wall by the window that faces the beautiful mountains, etc..and then there were 2 window tables"around the corner"that faced a building 20 feet away and a/c units.Guess where they put us?Given that I had expressed our flexibility on time to be seated, this was ridiculous."

  • "My wife and I recently enjoyed an outstanding meal here along with our adult son and a family friend. It was our first visit to The Grove Park Inn, and although we had consulted the website, the restaurant was still hard to find. We had to ask three different employees for directions as there was no signage. The meal was outstanding and the service impeccable. Our table offered a magnificent view of the mountains as well as downtown Asheville. Regrettably, a group of conference-goers was extremely loud and boisterous, making conversation at our table nearly impossible. Our server apologized for the rudeness, but management seemed unable to deal with it. It was a shame that an otherwise flawless dining experience was compromised."

  • "Had dinner here with my wife. We shared an entree, ordered salads for each of us and purchased a bottle of wine. The food was delicious but our bill was still $100. We stayed at the Grove Park Inn over the weekend and this was one of 3 places we ate or drank. Views are amazing, food was very good here but alcohol prices are inflated to the point of ridiculous."

  • "food and service was great. only complaint was table top was loose with constantly allowed wine, food to 'rock'. took a little of the romance out. will eat there again. thank you john"

  • "The food, ambiance and service were lovely, except they made two mistakes in our orders. That being said, they fixed the mistakes and didn't charge us for them. All around, very nice place, great views of mountains and Asheville; on the expensive side."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "As one would expect at a resort restaurant, the food was good but expensive. The services started off good, but by the end of the meal, we were flagging down our server to get glasses filled, and to get dessert menus. The view was phenomenal, and the sunset beautiful. I'd go back again for a special event, but it won't be one of my regular stops."

  • "We were in the mood for seafood and were not disappointed. The scallops entrée was delicious and the trout as well. The wine selections were perfect, also, with assistance from our server. She let me taste 2 of their chardonnays before I decided. We had a window table and a beautiful sunset as well!"

  • "Overprized. Food really average. Waited really long for food to come out, and it was not worth the wait. Server wanted to know if i wanted a spoon for mashed potatoes served with braised short ribs - really??"

  • "This restaurant is absolutely wonderful, the staff are very friendly and make you feel as if you are the only guest dining. The atmosphere is very quiet making it easy to both talk and hear while dining. The view is spectacular. I so enjoyed this dining experience I am already looking for a date that I can return."

  • "The food was acceptable. I had the flatiron steak and frites. The steak at first was tender, but part of it was chewy. My wife had the scallops. They were good. They really skimped on the alcohol portions. My first Johnny Walker Black was so weak I had to send it back. The second was only a little better. The wine servings were costly and miniscule. I would not return."

  • "Not only was the flavor of the food fabulous but this Chef pays attention to textures in his food. We ordered the mussels with white wine and fennel . I looked when they came out and there were potato chips on top. I wasn't sure how I would like that but it was an intriguing blend of full flavor and just a little crunch. The nightly special, Braised short ribs was tender and delicious. The dessert was outstanding lemon Creme Brulee. Crunchy top then tangy lemon and a slightly sweet berry at the bottom. The whole night was a true taste sensation. Bravo to the Chef (who also came over to our table to check that eveything was fine)!!"

  • "To the poor food, service and prices at the adjacent Grove Park Inn resort hotel restaurants. Has been there for years living up to this reputation. Have never had a bad experience at this restaurant; in fact I'm grateful this pleasant alternative exists."

  • "My first time eating at Vue 1913. Have been to Omni Grove Park Inn many times. This restaurant came recommended by a staff member. Had reservations for 6:30 and was taken right to the table, a quiet, secluded table as I had requested when making the reservation. Waitstaff was very attentive, bringing menu, beverage choices, breads right away. I thought it took a long while for the main course to be served (approximately 45 minutes) but it was SO worth the wait! The best steak I have ever had in my life! I will definitely make plans to return to Vue 1913 at Omi Grove Park Inn!"

  • "Excellent service... View of the sunset is totally worth it... Incredibly scenic and the grove park inn is definitely an experience. We were not in awe of the food however. It was good but just not overly impressive like you would expect for the price. Had similar dishes at tupelo honey cafe that had a little better flavor for 2/3's the cost."

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here. The view is wonderful, the service was excellent, the steaks were very good and the attention from management was nice. I highly recommend this restaurant. One exception was the dessert. We ordered a chocolate tart and it wasn't fresh. I'm a chocolate lover so it was disappointing. The dessert didn't make the experience a miss. I still recommended it but encourage the restaurant to ramp up the desserts."

  • "With so many great options in Asheville, please don't waste your time or money at Vue 1913. Food was meh and service is worth me writing a poor review. I must have been asked 5 times if I wanted to add a lobster tail to my meal then the bill was wrong afterwards. All in all food was okay, but the service made it tough to enjoy."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "The food was excellent; we loved the valentine's day special. The waitstaff went out of there way to make sure we were well taken care of. The food was well worth the price, though the wine list was more for the 1%ers. The wine was definitely good, but not really worth the cost. Average bottle on the wine list ran about $200. Would recommend, and can't wait for the opportunity to go again."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Cold, stale bread, paltry portions, side dishes overcooked and unappealing, as if an afterthought. Soup tasted canned. Waitstaff unprofessional and more suited to serving at a chain restaurant. Vue 1913 doesn't measure up for a high end eatery that charges this much for dinner."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Service was over the top, food excellent. Could not have had a better time."

  • "My husband and I dined at Vue expecting a romantic quiet evening with good food and we were not disappointed. This was our first time dining at Vue since it changed from Horizons. I really enjoy exclusive formal dining and enjoy no noisy, screaming kids!"

  • "I wanted a special, secluded table for our friends and us to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. I also wanted a nice bottle of champagne at the table when we arrived. I talked to the maitre d' (or captain), Alex, ahead of time, and he was very helpful. Also helpful was Robert, who was on duty that evening. Maybe because we had been in the spa all afternoon, under waterfalls and in pools, we were in the mood for seafood. Our party had smoked oysters, Alaskan snow crab, scallops, and salmon. The food was delicious and very elegantly presented. The desserts were tasty and not too heavy. This was an occasion that had to be right, and it was. I would absolutely do it again or recommend it to friends."

  • "This was the first opportunity we have had to eat at the Grove Park Inn since it came under the Omni hotel group. In the past we had eating at the Sunset Terrace several times and Horizons a couple of times as well. Vue 1913 now occupies the location that Horizons had. The location is still great and the view fantastic. In addition the service continues to be impeccable. However the food was a real disappointment. We never minded the prices in the past, because the food was so goo. Now the food is mediocre at best and definitely not worth the price. There are so many other options available in Asheville, that I would choose them over any of the dining options at the Grove Park Inn."
