Diner Reviews
  • "Fine dinning in an award winning designed Chicago Landmark Resturants . Incredible food ! No clanging of plates or patrons on cell phones. No one dressed in jeans , many men in suits and ladies in dresses , all though country club casual is appropriate . Once again it was a wonderful relaxed dinning experience ."

  • "We made a reservation and were immediately seated when we walked in the door. The sommelier helped immensely in choosing a bottle of wine. My mezzaluna tasted so sweet - it was topped with crushed cookies. Delicious. My husband had a pasta dish cooked perfectly. Our daughter chose the mini cheese pizza and she said the chef was a "great pizza chef." Our triple chocolate cake dessert was heavenly, bursting with 3 different textures and flavors of chocolate. I would, without a doubt, come back to Vivere."

  • "had a group of six for lunch . Noted that there were other groups of six or more. DIstance between the tables and the decor helped to hold down the noise so you could hear the conversation at your own table. Good food. Love the Half Order size. Can enjoy an excellent meal without overdoing it."

  • "The service and ambience was, wow, out of this world. The bread was good but the oil seemed like plain olive oil, no garlic. The food was described wonderfully in the menu, but when it got to us it was heavy and not too tasty. I took most of mine home and tried it again, still couldn't eat it. We had the Spinich lasagna and the rice cheese Crab meat combo. Truly disappointed in the food."

  • "Our second dinner at Vivere. Hard to beat the first one but this was just as good. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Chef James knocked us out with the food. Every bite was a heavenly experience. I think i said "wow" at least a dozen times. Well thought out wine pairings by the Wine Manager Ryan. Incredible meal."

  • "The ambiance of the restraunt was very calming and comfortable. That and the outstanding and friendly service definitely contributed to the amazing experience at Vivere. I am a vegetarian and there were many options for me to enjoy, I endulged in the ravioli which was outstanding and by far the best I have ever had. The sauce was dilicious and made the dish. For desert I enjoyed a chocolate cake with a mint flavoring along with blackberry gelato. It may sound like an odd combination of flavors but it was delicious and left me wanting more. I would recommend Vivere to anyone in a heartbeat."

  • "Very attentive service, from the hostess to the wait staff and bus boys. Very good choice for theater goers because they work hard to move you through courses in a timely manner. Food was very good. Love the creme brulee."

  • "I ordered the diver sea scallops, buffalo mozzarella, funghi pasta, and the goat cheesecake. All of the food had its own unique taste and the seasoning on everything was perfect. The pasta was creamy and was just right to split, if you get a salad and appetizer. The goat cheesecake was great because it was not as heavy as a normal cheesecake so it wasn't overfilling after the meal. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and was a perfect place for an anniversary."

  • "We took our chances and picked a place to eat. We found a WINNER! The whole character of the place was wonderful. It's got lots of neat decor to look at, soft lighting, short menu with very good food. The pheasant ravioli was delicious! So were the scallops! Costs a little more than your regular restaurant but well worth it! I would highly suggest it! PS:We went before a theater show at 6:30pm and the place was empty. If you are finding it hard to get reservations before a show, this is your place! Bon Appetite!"

  • "Love, Love, Love this classic restaurant! Everything from start to finish was wonderful. I was here about 5 years ago with the same group- we loved it then, we love it now! Food is delicious and reasonably priced and the wine list is awesome The wine steward was very helpful and made some good suggestions."

  • "The food was spectacular. My date enjoyed it so much she wanted to give the person who recommended the restaurant a hug. Dane the waiter guided us through each course."

  • "I took my valentine to this restaurant and was very pleased. The atmosphere was romantic, the food was excellent and served in a portion size that filled me up but did not allow me to overeat. The prices were good, the service excellent."

  • "Provided the high cost, I would have expected the food to be better-portions are small which is to be expected but the small size was not balanced out by remarkable or unique flavor. The servers were kind of snobby which I really did not appreciate-in fact, that is the #1 reason I am not giving Vivere a favorable review. Everyone seemed really uptight which really killed the dining experience. I felt rushed by my server also who kept asking if we'd made a decision about every 2 minutes. Ambiance is nice but they could benefit from some very quiet music in the background-it makes dinner awkward when the place is not full that it is dead silent in the background."

  • "Vivere is a lovely spot for a special evening. It is lively without being overwhelming. Dinner was yummy.......venison nicely prepared with brussell sprouts; duck in an interesting sauce, great salads and delicious dessert. It was busy so they were running late and not too much in the way of apology for that . We will be back, even though we do love the upstairs."

  • "Decided to take my wife here for Valentine's Day. We really enjoyed the cocktails and appetizers (Buffalo Mozzarella and the Mushroom quiche) near the bar as well as the outstanding meals (Ravioli and Pasta Bolognese). Dessert was exceptional - some sort of chocolate explosion. Service was attentive, but not pestering. Only negative was the delay in seating time. We had 9pm (via OpenTable) reservations and did not get seated until nearly 10pm. Understandable for the mad rush of the hallmark holiday - but annoying nonetheless. Will definitely try it again on a "regular" Friday or Saturday night."

  • "It is almost always nearly empty when we go to Vivere but we keep returning due to good food and wine. I really love the ambience. It is beautiful inside with the woods and sculpture and lighting. Everything we ordered was good. Service was very good."

  • "I'm usually very exigent with restaurants, and Vivere didn't disappoint. Outstanding ambience and service was the key to our great evening (romantic). The food was very good, specially entree and dessert, and the main course (pasta) was Good, not outstanding. This was a surprise, because every other review graded the food as the best part of the restaurant. Only Foodies will notice this however. One thing: if the restaurant is full, you will take a while to get out of there. Overall, this restaurant was a great experience."

  • "My husband and I ate here for Valentine's Day and had such a wonderful time. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgable and the food was outstanding - I highly recommend the risotto. I feel that the price point was good (around $20-30 for an entree) and you got good quality for your money. We will definitely go back to Vivere the next time we are in Chicago."

  • "Vivere is not an inexpensive restaurant, but they can't seem to provide enough staff for a known busy night (Valentine's Day). We were there in excess of 3 hours, spending much of that time with empty drinks or plates wondering where our server was. My lamb chops were ok, but nothing special. My date had a seafood pasta dish that was terrible. The "scallops" were roughly the size of M&Ms. She ate less than half the dish and did not take leftovers. Desert and drinks were excellent, but all in all, I'd take my money elsewhere."

  • "Why have I not been here before. Outstanding food and service. Italian with a different surprising twist to each dish. I will bee back."

  • "The restaurant: a great atmosphere and excellent food! The service was a little slow but it was valentines day so I would try it again. I will also say the menu has some nice choices if you are looking for something different. The restaurant really needs to find a new service for valet parking... If you go don't waste your time. FIND YOUR OWN PARKING!!"

  • "I held a business lunch there. It's hard to find a place that has meets the key requirements for such a lunch: great food, great service, and quiet atmosphere so one can converse without shouting at each other. I will make this a regular spot going forward."

  • "My mother and sister in-laws got tickets for our birthday, we stopped at vivere to get a quick bite. We ordered a bottle of champian, which was fabulous and three appetizers to share. Made reservations for 6pm, seated without waiting. Food was amazing good quality and didn't have to wait long."

  • "The waiter asked if we had theater reservations and I was most impressed with his concern. The food was served in a timely manner, though I wished we had more time to savor the whole meal. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the presentation was great. The other entree had enough meat in it to satisfy the meat lover at the table. The people around us were having a good time and that made it feel most comfortable."

  • "I've been her a few times (Vivere) and it has always been great. The actual restaurant is pretty small but the food has always been fantastic. I was here last during the restaurant week. The food was still great. The portions were smaller than normal. The sommelier was also very helpful."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "We went here for restaurant week since the restaurant week menu was pretty similar to the actual menu unlike some other restaurants participating for the event. It was not our first time there and the first experience was great so we decided to return. We ordered a ravioli dish which was clearly undercooked. All the other dishes were fine, nothing over the top to die for. Our waiter was a bit standoff-ish and made the entire meal awkward every time he approached us. We will not be returning as there are many other fine Italian restaurants available in the Chicago land area to experience."

  • "Vivere is consistently one of my favorites in the city. The decor is elegant, the food exceptional and the service impeccable. It is the first choice when looking for a place for an excellent meal with special friends who have high standards. The staff is very attentive while respectful and the veal chop with polenta is one of my favorite meals anywhere. Do go! Leave room for me."

  • "This was a business lunch, and is a great spot for that kind of meal. Restaurant was not crowded, but was energetic, and we were able to maintain conversation easily and with some privacy. Food was outstanding. Great service at reception and before we ordered. We were not ready to order when waiter first came by, but then he left us for too long and it took way too long to get the bill. I think this is one of the mainstays for business lunches in the loop."

  • "We were out and saw this restaurant had availability on OpenTable so we quickly made a reservation and ran over to the restaurant. We had previously dined at the upper level restaurant (this one is in a single building that houses three Italian restaurants) but still had our eye on this one. The restaurant has a really cool bar area and interesting angles that make everything interesting to look at. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings and we're so glad we did. The chef came out to find out what our preferences are and tailored different courses for each of us. He also came out before and after each course to talk about the dish and get our reactions. Coupled with great service, we had a wonderful experience."

  • "Very good experience. The staff was very accommodating with last minute adjustments to our reservations. When we arrived late, they made sure to get us out in plenty of time for our night at the theatre. They were very attentive to our table but we did not feel rushed. We would definitely go back."
