Diner Reviews
  • "We had made reservations for outside dining but when the winds got too strong they quickly accommodated our request to eat inside. Our service was great and food and drinks were too! The 6 of us had a wonderful time. It was my third time there and we will definitely return."

  • "One of a kind place, but the food is sort of average."

  • "Dinner took 3 hours on a Saturday night. We were visiting with friends so had nowhere else to go but "Really?" Our waitress disappeared for long stretches at a time. Courses took over 30 minutes or more between to be served. Food fancy but didn't taste as good as it looked. Very disappointing as we were expecting much more for the price. We won't be going back ."

  • "We had a wonderful experience, dining outdoors, overlooking the arch. The food and service was very well done. All four of us enjoyed our entree's, ranging from 18 ounce prime rib, to an exquisite white fish special to various appetizer Crepes. Each of us raved about our wine choices. However, after dinner we typically like to have a cup of coffee or fine cappuccino with dessert. My husband and I had tried coffee here twice before and were disappointed by the bitterness and the shallow, flat flavor. We were surprised that such a nice dining experience was concluded with a sub par coffee bean. I would have expected Ily or an equal quality bean. Cafe Kaldi, LaVazza or String Bean would be much better than the Ronnco beans used here."

  • "My friend and I were specifically looking for a great place to enjoy lunch outside & we knew Vin de Set would fit the bill. It did not disappoint! It is a great place to linger over lunch & have a drink & look out towards the arch. Service was great!"

  • "Dined at Vin de Cet on our way to the symphony. Food was beyond delicious, menu had a nice variety, presentation lovely , Service excellent, and location perfect! I would highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Our servers were incredible. We never needed a thing. Our drinks were always full and the service was friendly and warm. We had to be evacuated to the basement due to tornado sirens but we felt safe and well taken care of. The basement was partially flooding due to a leak. Due to the inconvenience (which was by no fault of the restaurant) we were given complimentary drinks and pomme frites as our food had to be re-made from sitting too long during the evacuation. Everyone LOVED their meals once they did arrive and the waiter remembered that 2 in our party were getting married the following day. He treated them to the most delicious dessert on the house! Most of our party had never been but everyone (all 8 of us) wants to go back!"

  • "Vin de Set is my favorite restaurant in St. Louis. I come every year for my birthday. I am more of a foodie than my parents but they love this place too. Amazing, creative flavors, wonderful service at a reasonable price."

  • "This was a perfect place for a sophisticated bachelorette party! The bride loved the ambiance and accommodations. We were greeted with a complimentary champagne toast. The servers were amenable to our large group. The food was very tasty and everyone enjoyed their meal. Couldn't have asked for a better evening!"

  • "Outstanding dinner and service.y only disappointment was the sub par coffee we were served after our meal. When I inquired about the brand I was surprised that such an excellent restaurant wasn't using a better brand. We prefer LaVazza or Illy but being a French restaurant, Chauvinwould be much better."

  • "Seven of us went to Vin de Set to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had two grade school aged children in our party. The menu is wonderful... for adults. I was concerned that the kids wouldn't find something to eat, but the chef made a special fettuccini alfredo just for them with shrimp and a giant scallop. They ate every bite! As for the rest of us, we enjoyed our food tremendously. as I always do there. What a great night. Thank you!"

  • "Our group of 10 had dinner at Vin de Set before going to the Peabody in early March. We tried the tile fish special and well as the trout entree as well as the eggplant tower with pomme frites. Everyone in our group raved that food was delicious! Our waiter that night was "Charles". His quiet attention to every detail for the 10 of us was amazing!! I was so impressed by my March experience that I brought my family(party of 5) to Vin de Set again last Sunday evening after the symphony. We had the same experience - delicious food ( pork medallions, salmon special, cheesecake )and excellent service from Charles and the rest of the staff!"

  • "For quality of food, excellent service, great outdoor or indoor dining, Vin de Set exceeds expectations! If you haven't been there for brunch, you are missing a real treat. The brunch offers great variety in warm atmosphere, and the service is top notch."

  • "Food was great! The server gave my mom a birthday card and a free creme brûlée. It was a very sweet gesture. I had a party of seven and we stayed for hours. The one negative I would say is the editor didn't regularly check on us. We needed drinks and dessert. He was in the corner talking for almost 30 minutes before he came back. Overall, the team was very gracious and made it a great experience."

  • "We had a lovely dinner overlooking the arch and saw fireworks from the stadium. They matched the fireworks that we had with our dinner, it was perfect. Cheese plate, cocktails to start. Pommes Frittes - amazing. Steak was perfect and the desserts were amazing"

  • "Wonderful food and great service. It was too cold to be outside but indoors is cozy. I had the eggplant Neapolitan. Generous sides and portion."

  • "I'm an out-of-towner foodie, second time here in 2 weeks. This place is NYC Greenwich Village cool/good. It delivers on all levels....food, service, ambiance.....plus the cool factor. They know how to do fish, something that's not always a strength in the Mid-West. Every dish has a twist, transforming the familiar into the unique. Unique dish? Unique plate! First time I came I valet parked the car...and couldn't find the place! Intrigued? And it's in a stand alone building! Warm summer night? I'll bet the rooftop setting is hard to beat. Snowy winter night? The room with the exposed beams and fireplace. I'm all in!"

  • "I have been here for lunch and dinner, both for business. I would definitely bring my husband here. I had the bone marrow appetizer and it was delicious. I have had the mussels and the trout, both which were fresh and artfully prepared. You can't go wrong with this restaurant! Excellent service, reasonable prices, excellent food!"

  • "Great for adult night out! Wonderful food. It is a pricier restaurant, but I got more food than I could eat. It's still reasonable for the quality and quantity."

  • "The ambiance of the restaurant is great. It's well decorate and has a great bar. But I thought the food was mediocre at best and my cocktail was bad. I ordered one of the cocktails off the menu and was given Jim Beam in a $10 cocktail. I ordered a steak and it was overcooked. They did immediately put on and give me another steak, but overall, I didn't think the steak was the quality that deserved the price they were asking. My fries were soggy. The asparagus was overcooked. And my friend who got the burger was just as disappointed as I was. As disappointing as the food was, the staff was extremely friendly and wanted us to leave happy. Just wasn't going to happen with the quality of food we were given for the price."

  • "We had a wonderful experience in mid-March for my birthday. My wife had the petit fillet and I the sea bass. The food was very good and our server, Daniel, was excellent. The main problem with this restaurant is that it is easy to want one of everything. We began with the escargot and sea scallop starters--both were very excellent. As mentioned, my wife had the petit fillet with the hollandaise-type sauce. The fillet was tender and flavorful--at least the bite I was allowed to have. My sea bass was delicious, but just slightly "mushy." I would have preferred a somewhat more flakey fish. However, it was on sweet potato au gratin, which was a great meal in itself. For dessert we had creme brulet and a Bavarian mousse. Awesome."

  • "We choose to go to this restaurant because of word of mouth + we were going to the Peabody to see a show and wanted to eat somewhere kind of close. We will certainly return! The food was excellent, service outstanding (without being smothering), and ambiance was wonderful."

  • "My husband and I came here for our anniversary. We had the scallop appetizer which was good, but I thought there was way too much wood smoked flavor on the polenta, my husband wasn't as bothered by it. Very shortly after our appetizer, our food came out. I ordered the Duck Confit which was absolutely delicious. It came on a bed of beans with sausage. Even after I was full I could not stop nibbling on it. My husband got the Pork Chop special which was served on lima beans with kale on top. It was also wonderful, cooked perfectly and the kale was a great al dente texture. For dessert we had the maple cheesecake which also did not disappoint. I will definitely go back and try more things on the menu."

  • "I had the lobster bisque as a starter and it was nice but nothing special. That was followed by the Mussels Meuniere, which is more classically known as a Sole dish. The sauce for the mussels was tasty but was more of a butter sauce than a broth and was too heavy and a bit oily for the mussels. The accompanying frites were thin but not crispy but rather limp and soggy. The dessert, Chocolate Souffle Roulade, consisted of two slices (one too many for one person) of a pleasant chocolate thin cake rolled around the creme filling. Nice but not special. Service was good as usual. I normally eat dinner at Vin de Set and perhaps it is just better than their lunch. Their brunch is wonderful as are any special events they hold."

  • "Went on Valentines day, 2014. Was a bit early for our reservation, but seated immediately. Restaurant is lovely - very interesting interior. Wait staff was amazing, and there's a great energy about the place. Had a local beer (Schnickelfritz - amazing, as I had a dog named that as a boy! I kept the bottle); my wife had a cocktail (a 'Bubble Bath') Both ordered from the 3 course prix fixe, and everything was delicious. Potato & Gruyere Croquettes and baked brie for our separate appetizers; lobster bisque for me (wife skipped soup/salad in favor of desert); 4 Oz Rain Crow Ranch Filet Oscar as my entree, and Chicken Provencal Pasta for my wife; and a Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee for desert. Total for dinner was $115, plus tip."

  • "I went twice to Vin de Set last week - once for lunch and once for Sunday Brunch. Both times the food was excellent. The service at lunch was perfect, attentive but not invasive. The brunch service was ok - a little cold and rushed but ok. I will be coming back to try the dinner VERY soon."
