A word from Vieux-Port Steakhouse
Murs de pierres, plancher en bois, grandes baies vitrées, foyers, quelques mots qui résument parfaitement nos salles à manger et l'ambiance qui règne dans celles-ci. Sur trois étages, elles peuvent aussi bien accueillir soirées aux chandelles qu'événements familiaux ou privés.



Old stone walls, wood floors, large picture windows, cozy fireplaces; these are just some of the words that describe and evoke the warm and inviting atmosphere of our dining rooms. On three floors, they are as perfect for candlelight dinners as they are for family and private events.

  • "We thought we would go to a steakhouse on our last night in Montreal and avoid the exorbitant prices of Gibby's so we tried Vieux Port Steakhouse instead. We were seated upstairs literally by ourselves as it was not busy. People were in a room next door to watch the hockey game which is fine, but we went out to avoid the noise and should have been asked to move. When seated, there was red wine on the floor and on our table. Luckily we didn't get it on our clothes but it was all over my hand. The table beside us had cutlery on the floor and it was never seen by anyone; waiter or night manager. The Caesar salad did not have bacon and the dressing was average. The halibut was overdone and dry. The steak was ok but not special. Disappointing. "

  • "This is the second time we have been there for Sunday brunch and it was fantastic. A great selection of food. The waffles are delicious. Omelettes are made to order in front of you. The quality and service of this restaurant is outstanding. Friendly staff, beautiful building. I would recommend going, you will not be disappointed."

  • "While the service was generally good, the waiter who took our order seemed to be in a hurry so he kept asking us if we were ready to order even though I mentioned twice that my friend had just arrived and had not looked at the menu. In addition, a smile was not part of his composure. On the other hand, the young man who brought the food to us was friendly, with a lovely smile and was very attentive to our requests. I find the quality/price excellent."

  • "It began with us arriving early for our reservsation but we were greeted with a smile and immediately sat at a table with a wonderful view of St. Paul Street. We were two couples and right from the start the service was excellent. The waiter for our table was friendly and very helpful with our choices for the main dishes. His name was Louie and he was very professional. The main courses we choice we very well done and all four of us cleaned our plates from the sirloin to the fillet mignon all were great! Calamari was super good. Could have had 2 more plates of that dish. Excellent time at the restaurant."

What really turned a birthday brunch into a stressful situation is the pictures of Pauline Marois at the Sunday Brunch and the advertizing of the Parti Quebecois. Two weeks before elections, to put signs on the wooden posts of the salad bar... Had I known that were the case, would have gone elsewhere."

  • "I decided to go here for my birthday last weekend - I wanted to be in the Old Port and go to a reasonably priced steakhouse. We started with the fried calamari, which was only okay. A little chewy and not crispy enough. I ordered the NY Striploin for dinner and it was cooked perfectly and delicious. My friend got the T-Bone and he said it was fatty (normal for this cut of meat), but a little too grizzled. Another friend got the chicken and shrimp and said it was great. The mashed potatoes that came with the meal were average - a bit bland. We told the waiter it was my birthday and he gave us free porto wine and dessert -- so delicious and and so nice! Overall, I would certainly come back, but it wasn't the best meal ever."

  • "We have dined at Vieux Porte Steakhouse many times for brunch in the past. We recently returned after a three year hiatus.The Sunday Brunch is spectacular and well worth the cost of $24. Per person. You can't go wrong as there are choices galore. Smoked Salmon, mussels, shrimp, roast beef, fish, chicken, pasta, omelets, fresh fruit, salads desserts, breads and of course ,mimosas and Bloody Mary's! Well worth the trip. We will be back again sooner than three years!"

  • "Was a little hesitant to rebook here as the last time I was here a year ago it was excellent...was worried about being let down. Boy was I glad I went again. It not only met but exceeded expectations the 2nd time around. Service and food were excellent along with the wood burning fireplace and smokey tint to the air, things could have not been better!"

  • "We went on Valentine's Weekend. Food great, service great. We were not obliged to take Valentine's menu. It was romantic even though restaurant is a good size but the first floor is smaller than the secnd flloor. Second floor would be great for groups. 1st floor is more romantic (smaller, cozy and fireplace) Wine list good but a little pricey. They should have more of the less expensive wines. They do have a few but not many."

  • "Went for a special occasion (Valentine's) and was not disappointed. The service was fast and courteous and the steaks 8oz filet mignon was like butter. We both ordered medium but mine was more med-rare. I didn't mind it so I didn't send it back. The ceasar salad was also very good. The steak was served with fresh green beans, cooked perfectly and garlic mashed were also very good. I would definitely go back."

  • "We booked a table at 8 for the latest booking which was at 9:30pm. We arrived in front of the restaurant and notice that it closes at 10pm so we quickly made a call and ask if we were too late. The person confirms that they close at 10 and when I ask if we are too late now, he simply said well I can't tell you you're too late but we close at 10 so you know. With the attitude and voice tone, we knew right away that we won't enjoy our night, so we simply said Thank you. I don't think we will come back because they sound like they will kick you out of the restaurant at 10 sharp, then I wonder why on the internet, we were able to make bookings till 930 if they expect to close at 10. Clearly, no one can enjoy a meal at this price within 30 mins."

  • "We were a party of 7 adults and had reservations for 7:30 on Saturday night. We arrived a little bit early, but our table was ready for us. One person in the party felt he was to far from the table and tried to move the table, in doing so he spilt a glass of water. The staff was very fast and effecient in cleaning up the space. The one problem we did have was that the food was not piping hot when it arrived at our table. Most had the shrimp's which could have been warmer and the ones that had steaks felt there steaks were quite warmer on earlier visits."

Our waiter was very friendly and even sang Happy Birthday to me when he brought out the slice of chocolate cake. I would definitely return, and even for a Monday snowy night in Montreal, the quiet atmosphere helped us have a nice romantic dinner."

  • "I was expecting a lot from this restaurant in terms of food quality. However, the steak that I requested well-cooked was burned, charred and very dry, so dry that I almost choked a few times. I should have sent it back but I was too hungry to wait for another steak. I eat meat once a year so this experience left me disappointed. The salad was meh, the greens beans were chewy but the mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful. The server also gave me the wrong bill. Thank heavens that she rectified the problem fairly quickly. Otherwise, the service was attentive and prompt."

  • "The reception is warm and courteous. Our waiter Paulo made us feel welcome and he is very helpful to explain the menu to us. The food is excellent as well as the dessert. Paulo told us there is a terrace opened in the summer time, for sure we will come back . We strongly recommend this restaurant to everybody. Thumbs up to Vieux Port Steakhouse!"

  • "This is one of those places that Focuses too much on the meat and lets everything else fall flat. The Steak was amazing not doubt about that but the appetizer sides and even desert where just Meh. I am not saying they were bad by no means; I am just saying they where fairly mundane and not adequate in excitement and flavor to adequately complement the steak or justify the price point.. A plain salad that tastes ordinary. The Mashed potatoes where over seasoned with salt and the consistency was far too smooth making them feel and taste like boxed instant mashed potatoes with too much salt, Not a taste I want to experience at all when paying that much for a meal. Desert tasted like the frozen chocolate mouse cake you by the the store."

The food was pretty good for the price, however if I was paying the prices on the menu I would expect better food. The restaurant is in a nice place, and the staff were friendly. They do have Kronenberg blanc on tap which was nice"

  • "Everything was more than good, especially the steak, which is cooked perfectly as you would expect, which happens rarely in other steak houses. Portions were just perfect. Service was excellent. On the other side, bread could be warmer. Soup was not even warm! I was expecting a HOT soup. It was also a little too salty, which seems to be a common mistake from most restaurants: it's easy to add salt, but impossible to do the opposite! Would recommend, especially during the Happening Gourmand!"

  • "The hostess was very rude mumbling under her breath when we asked to switch table (we were next to the door it was very cold)The manager sent us to up a level but she wouldn’t seat us saying the table was for a larger group than we. After checking w/ the manager again and he insisting it was ok she still kept repeating how we should not be seated there. She made us feel very unwelcomed and most of the table around us remained empty during our entire meal. I don’t think they were over booked! (blond with shoulder length hair) The food itself was mediocre; cream of leek soup was so liquid it was no way a cream! The meat was cooked well but the sides were disappointing; garlic mash potatoes had no garlic at all, green beans were tasteless"
