Diner Reviews
  • "Traveled to Toronto for work and was pleasantly surprised to find Vertical. Food was excellent and the service was top notch. Small but mighty drink menu, but what was on there was delicious. Our server was excellent, great personality and brought the good and drinks out in a timely fashion. My only concern is that the restaurant is attached to a shopping mall and we would have never found it if I had not asked two locals on the street for help. Luckily, they were heading somewhere close by and my group and I were able to follow them towards the restaurant. "

  • "The food was really good, simple and good flavors. Pasta is a must to try, great selection of meat and fish as well. We got a great and friendly service."

  • "I had dinner with visitors from New York and England. It was very convenient to be able to from their hotel to the restaurant via the underground PATH, as it was pouring outside. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and we had a lovely evening."

  • "I truly enjoy the food! The service is outstanding; servers are very friendly and informative. The atmosphere is so relaxed that it's a perfect place to meet up with friends. The warm doughnuts are the best!"

  • "Went there for our anniversary dinner. Our server was great and very friendly - even gave us dessert on the house. The food was mediocre. I got the chittara - which was lobster spaghetti essentially - the flavors were just Ok, the spaghetti was a little tough and way too little lobster on my plate. My husband had the artic char steak, which just lacked in flavour over all. Their foccaccia bread was good and the scallops appetizer was great. Wanted to go to a fancy place for anniversary, didn't think this place quite hit the mark. Probably won't go again."

  • "Ater searching , we finally found Vertical. We were the second table to sit on a Friday night. Friendly and helpful waiter took our orders, served wine etc. twenty minutes passed, and he returned to tell us a main dish we ordered was not available. It took that long for the kitchen to relate the infor. or to realize they were out of food?.? To replace the unavailable entree, an order of ravioli was chosen. These were delicious , but 4 average size for $25.00????? So dinner was delayed. We had ordered a side and it was forgotten. Sad part was that the food we received was delicious, we feel for the chef, trying to make a name for himself. There is a huge need for organization with the kitchen, manager and wait staff. Manager was useless!!"

  • "The entrance to Vertical is somewhat strange. One has to walk through the food court to get there. The decor is very corporate-like. The food, however, was great! The starters were very delicious. Both the main dishes (braised beef cheek and pickerel) were extremely tasty. The desserts were excellent - especially the coffee cake. They also have a great wine list. I will high recommend this resto."

  • "I heard great things about Vertical and was expecting the same. It was a quiet and slow Monday night. Decor is nice. Service was appropriate and never too imposing. The food was okay but no wows and the Risotto may have been a bit undercooked while the lavender pudding anglaise too dry."

  • "This was a great Winterlicious lunch. Fantastic food, excellent service. We were a group of six and managed to get seated in one of the private rooms which was a special treat! The room was very cold, and asked if the heat could be turned up. There was a problem with the heat so they brought us a heater within a few minutes. We all loved our Winterlicious experience and will definitely be enjoying another lunch at Vertical."

  • "Very dissapointed with the Winterlicious lunch. The portion sizes were small. The steak and frites option was very small and left you hungry. I have been to this restaurant and tried their regular menu and have had a much better experience. I'm surprised they didn't try harder to showcase their restaurant."

  • "I went to Vertical with 2 colleagues for Winterlicious lunch. We were shown to our table by a very gracious hostess. The menus and wine list were already there when we sat down, but when we looked at the menu, there was no reference to the Winterlicious offerings we had seen on line. When we asked our server about it, he pursed his lips, walked away and brought back the Winterlicious menu. We each ordered a non-alcoholic beverage and our 3-course menu items. While the server was professional, he wasn't warm or engaging. It begs the question - if restaurants don't want their patrons to choose the Winterlicious menu, as evidenced by it not being anywhere on the tablewhen we were seated, why do they participate?"

  • "For our Winterlicious lunch, we tried the sardines as appetizers (bony so I wouldn't suggest it), lunch of flank steak was nicely presented and the taste, though not complex, was expected so no wow surprises but good enough. The dessert which was a coffee cake served in a mason jar was inventive but much like the other meals was not surprising."

  • "I have dined many times at this restaurant before and the food has never been amazing but decent for me to come back. I booked lunch here with some clients, not only did the food taste bad but it took forever for them to bring anything to us. The lunch cost $200 which is what you would expect to pay at an upscale restaurant in the financial district, but in order to charge those prices the restaurant has a responsibility to make sure the quality of the food is upheld to a certain level. I will not return to this restaurant if I have the choice."

  • "Went for New Years dinner with another couple. I ordered the gnocchi which came with a tasteful serving of buffalo mozzarella and was tasty but not overly notable. My boyfriend ordered the lobster pasta which came with a large amount of lobster and tasted delish. A friend ordered the boar pasta, as recommended by the chef, and he enjoyed it although said the portion size could be a little larger. Service was great and the server matched a wine suggestion perfectly for our tastes."

  • "My dish was very good and the chardonnay from Washington was excellent. The service was very good. We were lucky to get a reservation at the last minute for NYE for that we were happy but wasn't ideal in terms of atmosphere not a great buzz for the occasion but still OK.... considering our fault for leaving our plans to last minute."

  • "For my appetizer, I decided on the beef carpaccio and it was truly the best I have ever eaten! The additional of truffle slices and the parmesan foam was such a novel idea and elevated this dish to a whole new level. When I was unsure about which of the two white wines I would prefer, our server was very helpful in providing a taste of the two white wines that I to help me in my decision. He was also very happy to suggest that the kitchen would be pleased to alter a pasta entrée to suit my guest's request to remove the fish. Vertical is a top-notch dining experience and was a perfect choice for lunch with a special client."

  • "From entering at the door and all the way thru to paying the cheque the service and ambience where fantastic. The homemade red pepper soup was perfect and the venison pasta dish outstanding. Topping it off with the cheese plate, a great selection. Will definitely and recommend Vertical as a place to go"

  • "The food was very good and presentation was wonderful. Our waiter was outstanding. Very attentive, explained the dishes in detal and with passion. Ambiance was also very nice. A beautiful restaurant to go for a romantic dinner or with a group of friend. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone."

  • "It didn't quite have the buzz we were looking for. Possibly because it was a Friday night and in the financial district. Likely busier and more fun mid week."

  • "Not impressed with the lunch selection. Pretty limited and expensive. Also, why are they charging $5 for a bottle of water (not sparkling) with no explaination or warning ahead of time?"

  • "I really enjoyed my summerlicious experience at Vertical. I started with the gnocci which was simple but very delicious and had the beet risotto for the main. The risotto was spectacular and I enjoyed every bite. I finished with the peach shortcake which was deconstructed and really tasty. I would go back for sure."
