  • "My wife and I decided on Vallone's for our 15th Anniversary dinner. Reservations at 7:15, we arrived at 7:15 and were promptly seated at a table close to the center of the restaurant, which was half full at the time. There were plenty of busboys, waiters, a wine steward and a manager on the floor, but no one ever approached our table. We continued to watch and wait as two busboys started to take apart one of the tables next to us, watching as the wine steward AND manager approached the table in front of the fireplace to check on them, but still no water or greeting. After 15 minutes, still nothing, left and went to Kuu Sushi where we had an awesome dinner. As we walked out the door, several employees told us to have a nice night!!!"

  • "Seems Vallone wants to make a restaurant by name alone . We enjoy quality and don't mind paying for it. Everything is a la carte. The $40 fillet looked pitiful on a cold white plate. With only a couple other tables occupied, the noise level was over the top. The sides were almost as much as entrees at other good restaurants in town. Too many other good restaurants in town to return!"

  • "Had dinner at Vallone's on Sunday night. The restaurant was quite empty but it was Sunday so to be expected. The service was great. The food was nothing to write home about. My wife and I are big fans of Vic and Anthony's so we were hoping Vallone's woud be of the same caliber. No such luck. We started with the steak tartare and crab cake. The tartare lacked punch. The crab cake was quite doughy unlike the one you find at Vic's which is so chock full of jumbo lump crab meat that it barely stays together. My wife then ordered the Caesar sald which was very underwhelming. We've had better at Pappa's Seafood. I shared the Royal Ribeye which was presented in a spectacular fashion and tasted good. Overall, Vallone's was ok. The food needs help."

  • "This was our second visit. Get the crab cocktail - large portion and amazing! We were blown away by the 55 day dry aged ribeye our first visit, but it seems to have changed slightly. Still delicious though, and the mac and cheese was top notch. The dining area can get a bit crowded at times, especially if you're sitting in the middle. We requested a window table and the ambiance was very lovely. The service each time has been fantastic. We shared our steak and they cut the steak table side, which I thought was a nice touch. I hope they succeed in tweaking their menu for a consistent end product. We will definitely return!"

  • "Because this restaurant is located within a few miles of us, and the food is very good, we've eaten here a number of times since it opened (a few months ago) and each and every time we've been confused and disappointed with the not only the loud music, but the choice of music - for us it is certainly not appropriate for fine dining, and far from romantic. Add this to many of the tables having three high-mounted screens in their view in the bar which is situated at the entrance (with dining areas either side)."

  • "The ambience was great. Tables too close together, however. The noise level was too high to have conversation without yelling. The salads are too large unless they are the main course. The venison filet, quail, and sea bass were excellent. The NewYork strip had to be sent back as it was very tough. The Pasta Bolegnese was so salty it was inedible. The mile high lemon pie was delicious."

  • "The steaks were delicious but very expensive. One of my guest ordered the red snapper and it was raw in the middle and was returned. The waiter seemed to have to many tables to serve. The food service/delivery was subpar as the meals were not served the same time. We had the sides of harvest mushrooms and the truffled mac n' cheese and they were wonderful. The management did address the raw fish by removing it from the bill and offer a single dessert for our table of six."

  • "As with the new and old Tony's, one word comes to mind "consistent"! From the culinary offering to the new restaurant, Tony has come up with another winner in this new location. Food, service and ambience is what you'd expect from Tony's establishment. Glad that Tony decided to set this one up in an area of Memorial that is experiencing a revival in shopping centers and eating establishments. Welcome to the neighborhood!!!"

  • "We like trying new places and this is a good one. Walking in the place grabs your eye from the symmetrical wine display to the wide inviting fireplaces. Walked by the bar which had good looking snacks out and a good selection of adult beverages. We went early after a Dr.s appointment and will definitely come back for a later weekend dinner. I had the bone-in fillet, first time for that and it melted in my mouth. Gigi brought our wine and I asked when did the crab get on the table, now either I am getting old (which I am) or the servers are that unobtrusive. Gigi informed me that one of the guys just put it there a second ago. That is what I like about good servers, available and stealthy."

  • "Loved the atmosphere and the waitstaff were pleasant and attentive. Enjoyed the creative cocktail menu. The large contemporary stone fireplace was beautiful. However, Valone's is a very expensive steak house. We ordered the 16 ounce "bone in" filet for $58. Of this, there were maybe 8 or 10 ounces of edible meat when we got past the bone and fat. It was good and very tender but I didn't think it was any more flavorful than a traditional filet with a lot more waste. There are better options for steak and steak restaurants in the area."

  • "The good: steak was well flavored and tender; good bread (but filled up on because of long wait); restaurant tried to make up for long wait with free dessert. The bad: very long wait between appetizer and first course and bit of a wait between first course and entrée; steak was not cooked as requested, and even after sending it back it was too rare in parts (steak was not a consistent doneness). Given the price of the steaks, I would have expected it to be cooked to my specifications the first time, or at least the second time. Disappointing that it wasn't."

  • "I could have given a 4 stars for the quality of the food but for the price they charge you expect a 5 stars food that is why I am giving them a 3 stars. Nothing special, doubt I would go back again. I guess this explains why the restaurant was half empty on a Tuesday evening. Wine list is very good and waiters are very good as well."

  • "Went there for an anniversary dinner. The ambience is nice. The first thing we noticed is no table cloths. At that price point I feel that table cloths are a nice touch. A water server poured water to start our night and spilled a great deal on the table. Even though he saw it, he left the table. We had to flag him down five minutes later to have him clean it up and he weakly replied "sorry". The wine order got screwed up. I ordered a bottle of Brut that they were out of stock on. Ten minutes later the waiter comes back to tell me this. He offered the next bottle up at that price. It was an Extra Brut and I told him that was not my taste. Then we had a man in a coat and time come by. It took about 20 minutes before any wine was served."

  • "A friend and I ate at Vallone's new spot on Gessner for lunch last week and we both enjoyed the experience. I had the Southern Fried Chicken Salad, and my friend had the lunch combo with the Arugula Salad, with the Corn Raviolini....and we both thought the food was very good. Ample portions, served on a timely basis, with good service. Perhaps a bit much in terms of folks checking with us if we were "doing OK?", but that's to be expected for a new/recently opened spot. The restaurant was completely full (every table filled) and the noise level was very good, and we were easily able to carry on a conversation without having to raise our voices, nor fear being over-heard. All in all, I would rate our experience as VERY GOOD!"

  • "Our experience at Vallone's was just what you'd expect, based on the name and history of the owner. Food, service, and ambience were all absolutely first-rate. My wife's steak was slightly undercooked when initially delivered; both waiter and manager responded immediately, handling it pleasantly and efficiently, and very quickly made it right. We brought food home with us and thoroughly enjoyed a second delicious meal the next night. One caution: we went late on a weeknight and the restaurant, while hardly empty, was also far from full; the noise level was not an issue, but there _was_ an "energetic" feel and it's easy to understand comments from others who found it noisy at busier times. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "This was my second visit to Vallone's. I had dinner there shortly after it opened and was unimpressed (two people had to send steaks back, wait service was mediocre at best). My recent lunch experience was a different story - food quality was much better and wait service improved significantly. I had two clients with me and they very much enjoyed their entrees. Everyone ordered off of the lunch menu which had nice lunch appropriate serving sizes."

  • "Excellent inventive menu. Nice eclectic wine list with good somellier. Only strange thing about food was it was light on salt - unlike most steakhouses which go the other way. This could be a really excellent place and likely will be but multiple execution lapses should not be expected when the check is $300 for two. Everyone was really nice, but the feeling was that the place was overwhelmed on a Saturday night - maybe it is still too new? Apps came with lightning fast speed. The wine, unfortunately 5 minutes later (after chasing). Then a long wait for the steaks - staff were feeling overwhelmed and in catch up mode. Steaks finally came. Sides didn't. 5 minutes of staring at our steaks. Had to pour our own wine several times."

  • "My $35 entre was just a boring little piece of snapper ... not one other thing on the plate - not even a sprig of parsley! Other entres at our table were the same. Small portion - big plate - no garnish or flair at all. I could have cooked the dinner at home! Beyond the overpriced, uninteresting food, the salad WAS excellent and the service was great. Its a very oversaturated market here in Houston - I can pick from a dozen steakhouses .... Vallone will have to do better to get me back there."

  • "I enjoyed myself I have a thing about sitting in the front and really enjoyed the beautiful view of the wall fire. The waiters were very nice and attentive we had questions they did not hesitate to explain. The food was very good we had somewhat of a 3 course meal and had no room for dessert, we had to wait a bit on our food however that was due to my husband ordering his steak well done and I rather have my food the way I want it instead of getting it fast and wrong so needless to say it was worth the wait."

  • "Booked for Valentine's Day three weeks in advance after two groups of friends recommended Vallone's. Arrived on time for reservation, expecting to be seated in main dining room and were taken upstairs to "banquet room" which was partially filled with tables spaced far apart and ZERO ambiance. No centerpieces or a candle on any tables, "back on the chain gang" by The Pretenders playing loudly as we sat, cocktail menu blank - missing all pages. Asked waitress to speak to manager who greeted us by saying, "I love this room!" They did move us to a table in the "bistro" area by the fire feature which was better, but service was slow / poorly trained. We lost count of number of mistakes. Food was good. Won't go back. Don't recommend."

  • "We found the staff and service excellent. The steak was very nice - we split an aged rib eye. I wouldn't say it was better than either of my two fav steak places - Pappas and Del frisco- but it was a touch more interesting and sophisticated. We started with a hamachi tartare. The steak was accompanied by a foie gras sauce that was delicious. We chose Brussels and fries for our sides and also had a tortellini that was excellent. 2 notes on the bar - they serve Moscow mules in copper cups and they have Pappy's, I've not seen either of those touches elsewhere. The chocolate tower is a decadent and delicious finale. If you want to try all the great steak spots in town I would add this to your list."

  • "The food was very good, from the bread through to dessert. My entree came with roasted tomatoes, and I asked for a substitute. I said any veggie will do. It arrived without tomatoes, and no substitute. When you are paying almost $40 for an entree, I expect to have everything, including sides. The only so so side was the green beans. Not good."

  • "When a single glass of wine costs the same as a bottle at retail, then the restaurant is gouging its diners. The typical price for wines by the glass ranged from $12 - $16 which was almost the price of my entree at lunch. Some adjustments need to be made either in the wine selection or the prices for customers to return to this restaurant. Not everyone eating there is on a business expense account!"

  • "A beautiful restaurant and a typical "first class" Tony Vallone dining experience. Dinner was very good and lunch was fun. Lunch guests had chicken fried steak and I had chili - fantastic and the chocolate cake was outstanding. Yes, I am a foodie and very picky. Service and atmosphere very good. What a wonderful addition to the Memorial area."

  • "The Wine selection was very good and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. The Crab Bianca was excellent and the Tuna Tartare was okay. The steaks were very good, although I'm not sure the extra aging is worth the cost. The Creamless Creamed Spinach and the french fries were both excellent."
