Diner Reviews
  • "Love the variety on the menu. And when we couldn't decide which draft beer to order, samples were forthcoming. That made deciding easy."

  • "Finally was able to take husband to this restaurant which I had already tried and am pleased to say it did not disappoint."

  • "The food is amazing. Menu changes with what's in season. Priced right. Been here several times and never disappoints. The smoked tomato jam is house made. Love it!!"

  • "I came here after reading stellar Yelp reviews, however I was disappointed by the experience. The food we ordered was subpar and not memorable, but perhaps we ordered the wrong thing. I would be willing to give this place another try."

  • "Be prepared to be wowed! They aren't kidding, the 'Not your mothers meat loaf' is nothing like my mom ever made. This is my new fav restaurant in San Diego."

  • "We typically love Urban Solace and like to take our friends there. That being said, of the four people in our party, one had what a really good meal ("Pulled Chicken and Dumplings"). Both of the Sea Bass orders were over cooked and smelled fishy. The Beef Cheeks were fattier than I remember. While the meat tasted good, the ribbon of fat running through made it difficult to eat."

  • "We'd been to Urban Solace once before several months ago and were eager to find an excuse to return. The atmosphere and decor can only be described as early miscellaneous and oddly welcoming. It did feel a bit like coming home, even though we'd only been there once before. Allison was our waitress and was wonderful; a marvelous advisor for choices to be made. Some of our party was late getting to the restaurant, but there was no problem getting a table for those on time and service while waiting. The food is very unique (I had the Duck Confit with allspice rub-YUM!2 of us had the Chicken and Dumplings and 2 the prime rib special.) Everyone was pleased with their choices. Desserts were WOW! It is pricey, but overall, SO worth-it!"

  • "Urban Solace is always a great go to for a weekend brunch (unique menu), taking guests who are in town to dinner or just anytime we want incredible, unique food full of flavor. This night was no different. Such a great time and a wonderful waiter too."

  • "Dining at Urban Solace is exactly that….peace and quiet in the midst of a noisy neighborhood. Sitting in the patio, it is as if the world has fallen away and you are left to enjoy artistically presented and delicious food. This was the first time for the friend I had invited, who has food allergies and the chef gladly accommodated her requests for altering the menu item. Our server was attentive and the meal quite enjoyable."

  • "We have eaten at Urban Solace many times for lunch and dinner and never been disappointed. This fact held true for our first brunch there last Sunday on Father's Day. We had a delightful and tasty brunch for four. The food was great as always. We started with the delicious biscuits, a must. The food served around the table included the Salmon Eggs Benedict, Kitchen Sink Biscuits and Gravy, EGBLT and the Beef Cheeks Hash. Everyone loved their food and left with full bellies."

  • "Best burger I have ever eaten there. Can get loud depending on the crowd. Can get chilly bring a jacket. Great beer selection. Good prices considering the quality food. You can dress up or down. Very nice. Will return soon hopefully someday."

  • "The wait staff was very helpful regarding the beer and dessert selection. And my main entree was good. I am disappointed that they seem to have taken the fried green tomatoes off their menu, as this was my favorite appetizer. I've tried the shrimp and grits twice now and have been disappointed with it both times. Although the grits were creamy, it was rather bland, and the shrimp were tough. But otherwise, my food was good, and the black velvet cake was amazing."

  • "We enjoyed dinner on the patio. Good menu choices, tasty food, nice wine selection. We want to come back for their Sunday Brunch with Bluegrass music. Very nice place for dinner."

  • "Went there Saturday evening to celebrate our anniversary and because of my hearing it took a while to find a table that was quiet. They were terrific at working with me. Then came great food and service. Food was very fun and yummy. Go for the watermelon salad while they have it."

  • "I love the "not your momma's meatloaf" but it's the cheese biscuits that I crave !!! The orange-honey butter and smoked tomato jam spread on the biscuits is to die for. I tried the duckaroni for the first time and it was delicious !!!"

  • "Our experience was probably not typical, in that we had a late lunch/early dinner in the middle of the week. That said, our experience at Urban Solace was very pleasant. Service was prompt and helpful (our server made some good beer suggestions). The food was well prepared comfort food (e.g., burgers, pastrami) that was very tasty and ample portion size. A great place for fun, relaxing casual dining with good beer and wine list and fun food."

  • "Very accommodating for our large party of twelve for lunch, celebrating a graduation. Excellent service. Every single person loved their meal, including drinks and desserts-- absolutely zero complaints."

  • "We've been to Urban Solace many times. Food is outstanding every time. Minor misstep with our order this time (food wasn't exactly what we had ordered). Tasted wonderful, but should have been adjusted on the bill. Seemed to be a minor disconnect between wait staff and the kitchen, as both orders were not correct. First time in many visits that we've had that happen. "

  • "First time at this restaurant. I enjoyed everything about it. Sat outside in the patio. Good ambience. Different style of cuisine. Everyone in the group loved their meal. Great location. Super cute decor. "

  • "Not only is Urban Solace a great place to dine near the theater district of North Park, but the staff is out of this world! Great food and fun wait staff that know how to take customer service to another level! We have relocated to Florida and still when we are on travel in San Diego we go back there."

  • "We had a great lunch at Urban Solace. The pastrami sandwiches are very good and they have some of the best fries in town. And, for three of us, the price was very reasonable."

  • "We took two friends who had never been to Urban Solace before, and had a lovely lunch on the patio. Each of the four sandwiches was delicious, and unfortunately left no room for dessert! We've been here many times and have never been disappointed."

  • "My husband and I have been going to Urban Solace since it first opened, and the food quality is always reliably good. They had an excellent prime rib special for dinner, and I cannot stress the food quality enough. However, our service was a bit lacking (slow, forgot a drink order (but then comped the drink), and generally not as attentive as I would have liked) but this is a minor quibble. I wish they had a better selection of beers on drought. Their selection was heavy on lighter beer (claritas, saison, and weissen). They only two IPAs and no pale ale on drought, and, I know this is petty, but they were $7 and $8.50 and were served in a fancy tulip glass instead of pint glass. I hate it when I feel like I am getting gouged on beer"

  • "We went on the Saturday before mother's day since they were completely booked for Sunday. We enjoyed a peaceful brunch, no crowds, not too noisy. The food was great, we had: pork belly eggs benedict, cheesy eggs with bacon and grits, and a monte diego sandwich with fries. We would order everything all over again!! The service was excellent, the waiter and a woman who I think was either the owner or manager, checked on us several times and made small talk without being intrusive. We felt welcomed in a friendly atmosphere. We brought our well behaved 8 month old daughter and they were very kid friendly, bringing her the food I ordered for her first and a straw for her to drink water. We will be back soon! "

  • "Came to Urban Solace with my husband for date night. We didn't have a great table and our server could have been more attentive but the food was SO GOOD! We started off with the cheddar biscuits which also came with honey butter & tomato jam (I know it sounds weird but it is very tasty). For our entrées I got the quinoa burger with veggies on the side and my husband got the chicken and dumplings. Best quinoa burger I've ever had and my husband was pleasantly surprised with how juicy and flavorful the chicken was."

  • "I've waited a long time to go to Urban and it was worth the wait. I've lived in the area for awhile and finally had to chance to dine there. I heard a lot of hype and most things are true. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. The waitress provided great recommendations for my group and the food was just how she explained it. Interesting mix of simple and complex styles that work well together. I will definitely recommend this place to other people and I will for sure come back. "

  • "I've been frequenting U.S. since they opened and like to take clients there when entertaining. Also good for couples. Price can get a little steep if you order everything you want (be careful foodies!) but keep your drinking somewhere else and you won't break the bank. They do offer bottle service for $15 corkage fee as well. People always ask me what kind of food they have and the best I can come up with is American Food, farm to table, with mostly seasonal specials. The menu used to change a lot more (I think the chef/owner's attentions are split now that they have a new place to operate) but I am always happy to see the beef cheeks and pork belly remain.(best!) I recommend reservations just to be sure (esp. on Fri-Sun) Cheers Fatties!"

  • "Urban Solace is going to be our pre-theater restaurant from now on! Such a pleasant ambience, knowledgeable and helpful staff, and the food and drinks were outstanding. The cucumber mule won a standing ovation! And the sea bass and quinoa entrees won rave reviews. "

  • "Their beer selection is excellent, the duckaroni and the hanger steak are to die for! The only thing i did not like was my Lamb Shoulder i ordered from the Easter Dinner Menu. Very dry and tasteless. Other then that amazing and i will be back. "
