  • "Tasty Cheese Plate. Good variety of cheeses, nice atmosphere, friendly staff."

  • "We went originally for brunch and discovered an amazing venue in the center of a building. Feels like your outside, but with the benefits of being indoors. Great service, great food combined with a great venue. If you've not tried it, your missing out. We enjoyed it so much the first day we brought a group for brunch the next day. Definitely one of my new Portland favorites."

  • "What a great idea to have a steak "tasting" sampling 4 types of New York Sirloins. Sure my husband and I split it (who can eat 24 ounces of meat ?) Love the variety and choices on the menu. Great apps and side dishes. We brought a special bottle and the corkage policy is very reasonable. Would definitely recommend to friends."

  • "As an avid foodie & lover of steak, i had high expectations when taking family to dinner at the Urban Farmer. The service was excellent- professional, there when you needed them but not hovering, familiar & informative about the menu, and anticipated our needs well. Unfortunately most of us ordered steaks which were bland & unappealing on the plate. More seasoning & a better plate presentation for the very high $45. plus price tag was expected- especially compared with the beautiful plates served in the hotels sister restaurant upstairs. The steak tartare was nice looking on the plate, but also extremely bland. On the positive side, all meat was cooked as ordered, and one family member had the salmon special and enjoyed it very much."

  • "My husband and I went here during our first visit to Portland and it was wonderful! The quality of the food was exceptional and the service was excellent. We loved it so much we returned for breakfast the next day. We plan to return during our next Portland visit. Highly recommend."

  • "There was items on the menu that seemed weird. An appetizer: Fio's gras on a waffle with rhubarb compote. It tasted so bad I had to send it back."

  • "We were disappointed walking into the restaurant. It is very stark and surrounded by the balconies of hotel rooms. It would have been nice if they created a ceiling with white gauze or small white lights. The food was good and the service excellent. If you are looking to just enjoy the food and never look up, this is the place."

  • "This was a nice hotel restaurant. The food was pretty good as was the service. The single downside is that you are inside the hotel at the bottom of an interior atrium, so that can create a sensation of being at the bottom of a well. Also, since it's the prime restaurant and bar for the hotel, it can get pretty rowdy and loud at times. I'd recommend it for the food and friendliness of the staff, but not for the noise level, romantic aspects or ambience."

  • "This was a great find, the food and ambience were excellent. The experience was fun. The cheese cart is a must."

  • "Hospitality is a little odd at the host stand and our waiter was a little strange as well, but the food and ambience were great. I'd suggest more mature, savvy servers for the downtown lunch crowd. I'll be back for dinner and drinks. Thank you."

  • "Had been to Urban Farmer for drinks many many times before, but first time to have bruch. We stayed at the hotel (The Nines) and food was great, service was great, and I liked the ambience as well!"

  • "The food was wonderful and artistically prepared - we would go here again."

  • "... but steak and fish were mediocre - certainly not worth the price. Wine choice by server was awesome!"

  • "We had heard great things about Urban Farmer, and were anxious to try it. However, it failed to live up to our expectations. We ordered two appetizers, the charred octopus and the chilled shrimp. The sauce on the shrimp was gelatinous and over-seasoned, and both dishes were extremely salty. Our entrees were equally disappointing. The Oregon mixed grill was disproportionate in size to the price, and far too salty. The steak sampler, which we requested rare, was partially overdone, with one tough and flavorless. We ordered truffle butter on the side, but our steaks were drenched. Our server removed beverages before they were finished. While the rib eye steak was perfectly cooked and delicious, it was not enough to warrant another visit."

  • "Several of us at the table had our steaks over cooked. I send mine back at the next one was rare. They just could not cook medium. Average Caesar salad. Made for a tough business dinner."

  • "The Urban Farmer is one of the very best restaurants in downtown. The food is excellent, nice variety and portions that are sensible. My last visit I had roasted carrot risotto with fennel and kahlrabi....getting hungry just thinking about!"

  • "Good food. Very nice ambience. Made reservations days in advance and had nice table, but next to bathroom. Coffee and water service very slow. Had to ask repeatedly. Staff courteous, perhaps just scarce or too spread out. Another wait for the bill. Overall pleasant experience, but would not rush back for brunch."

  • "My wife and I shared the 14 oz grass fed NY Strip. After several bites, my wife and I decided to send it back due to the meat was so tough. Oh well! They left our "meat" plates on the table as well as our sides while our new steak was being cooked. It took a while before our plates were cleared. New steak came 45 min later. They gave us new sides to go along with the steaks. We are very knowledgeable about the cattle steak industry and have ate many great steaks in Denver. All these steaks were far more expensive than most steaks I have ever seen in Denver and didn't even come close in a overall taste. Ryan, our server, was very professional and very nice. I would give them a second chance because of Ryan! Our steaks were comped!"

  • "I have been to Urban Farmer many times for lunch meetings. I am always pleased with the caliber service I receive from the staff, as well as the food. It has been great for businesses lunches. I also have had occasion to eat there with my young family. Though it clearly caters to older clientele, Urban Farmer's staff has always been accommodating and patient."

  • "The experience was perfect when we walked in the door. The hostess was very nice. We were greeted by our waiter immediately and provided with water and champagne to welcome us for the birthday celebration. The courses were perfect. The main meal of fillet and rib eye were unbelievable and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the cuts of meat, preparation etc. Hands down better than any other steak house in Portland and I have been to all of them. Thank you."

  • "Good food great service and better atmosphere. Really cool the way its all setup with the indoor/outdoor feel. Staff made u feel like you were family and respectfully. A lil pricey but the food was awesome and portions were decent sized. Not dainty. "

  • "I felt like I was eating in the hotel lobby. There were large group with small children running around. Steaks were excellent but ambiance sucked for the price of the meal. They did not have Ketel One vodka. I usually have a Ketel one martini. Thought that was a little strange."

  • "We usually come for Sunday brunches or lunches as a family and hadn't been to the restaurant for dinner for a few years. After this visit, we remembered why we hadn't gone there for dinner for so long. Their fish and side dishes were delicious, but their steak was tasteless. We ordered a 42 day dry aged, grain-finished New York steak and had a hard time eating it. It was rubbery and didn't have ANY flavor of beef. Considering how we have so many other options for good steak in the city (Ringside, El Gaucho, Laurelhurst, Ox or Tasty and Alder), and much more inexpensive than this restaurant, I don't think we would ever go back for their steak. I filled up on side dishes and bread at this beautiful restaurant with a nice wine list. "

  • "My wife and I split a crab omelet and beef tenderloin hash - both were wonderful. The service was great and the atmosphere was chic and stimulating but relaxed and friendly. What a gem for my downtown neighborhood. "

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant. We were looking a nice place to take our adult son and his family for his birthday and he really enjoyed it. He had the 24oz ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. For an appetizer we enjoyed a selection of fine cheeses and that was a lot of fun. They bring the cheese cart right to your table and explain a little bit about each choice. Our 8 year old grandson really liked that. All the food we ordered was delicious and we will definitely be back to this restaurant in the near future."

  • "Not a very large menu and high prices. We had good sized proportions but it was pretty rich so hard to finish."

  • "Stunning surprise! Our cabernet was stunning at a most reasonable price and the steaks were sizzling delights with an amazing variety and all locally sourced. Our server knew the menu extraordinarily well and was able to inform us about the farms and feeding methods. Fantastic rye selection for after dinner. Hidden on 8th floor of hotel, this is worthy of many repeat visits."

  • "Amazing food, decent service (it was late on a Tuesday night to be fair) the music is a bit new-York loud. There is just a tiny hint of pretentiousness that usually isn't present in Portland- like explaining that my steak is in a cast iron staub that is hot. I can see it's a staub- using the name doesn't make it more or less useful than just saying "this is hot"...."

  • "My mom and her husband were in Portland visiting over the Easter weekend, for their last meal in town they wanted something "nice with steaks." I have had Urban Farmer on my list of to-try's since moving to Portland a few months ago, but wanted to wait for a special date-night with my husband or when my family was in town. Since I know my mom and her husband always appreciate a great meal and thoughtful menu, I figured Urban Farmer would be perfect. They absolutely loved the meal, cocktails, wine, and dessert, as well as the service and atmosphere. "
