  • "Amazing ambiance on beautiful grounds with grorgeous views, great menu, very attentive service, delicious food! Must order: crunchy shrimp role, lobster, banana soufflé. Wish we had time to go back a second time before leaving the island."

  • "What a wonderful restaurant. It is in the Four Seasons Hotel on the west coast of the Big Island near Kona. Just fabulous. It was a my birthday dinner and my husband treated me to a wonderful meal, great service and a wonderful view of the ocean. It is not a cheap restaurant but no more expensive than any good meal in a big city. The bill including drink, no dessert came to $200.00 including tip for the both of us."

  • "Slow food style, in a place where you forget where you are! The ocean´s gentle breeze drives your thoughts away, and an epicurian sense of wellness flows into your soul! Exquisite cuisine, with lots of organic and locally grown and harvested ingredients. Food as food should be: Not over-pretended, not under-estimated. And not to forget mentioning the very professional staff, including an outstanding sommelier. Congratulations!"

  • "Have eaten many times at Pa U ia and now the Ulu grill. The location does not get any better and the new restaurant concept is much better than before. But, something unfortunate happened on this visit. They were cooking their meat on a grill on the patio outside on a windy night. All of that smoke was going directly onto the guests at each table on the patio which made for a horrible atmosphere. When you pay ++ for the food and atmosphere, that is a detail that you just cannot miss. Nice idea - terrible execution. We had to move to a table for enough in front of the grill to avoid the smoke. Thank goodness we moved or we would not have had a good time. Service was excellent."

  • "Do not go here for sushi, not sure why it is has Sushi Lounge in its name. Book on Open Table, We got one of the greatest tables ever! We were seated on a lower area just 15 feet from the sand. The food was delicious. My husband had the Mongolian Beef and it was amazing. Enjoy!"

  • "This is a very kid-friendly venue. The food has a fun, casual flair for such high prices but everything is fresh and nicely prepared. The best feature is the amazing view."

  • "In one sentence - I wish all date-nights could be like our dinner at Ulu. We arrived about an hour early for our reservation because we wanted to have a couple of drinks at the bar (and I wanted to request a great table). The bar tender was great and made some fantastic cocktails (the ginger-coconut vodka drink is amazing!!!!!). The view was breath-taking with the ocean in view from the bar seat. Once seated outside (with the waves crashing in the background) we began one of our best meals on the Island. I would highly recommend this spot for anyone who considers themselves a foodies. From the bread to the appetizer to the main meal, everything was delicious. Worth every penny."

  • "Our Dining Experience was nothing short of spectacular! One of the nicest shoreline dining experiences We have ever experienced! We were celebrating our 15th Anniversary, and could not have had a better night out. The food was excellent, the staff attentive and not intimidating, and the ambiance "to die for"! Lighting of the waves was spectacular! In fact the only shortcoming, was the early delivery of a "warm" bottle of Louis Roederer Champagne (on ice), but opened and poured while still warm and frothy....hardly what I would expect at a Four Season's Hotel Restaurant. Nonetheless, a 5 star event! We are very forgiving given all the other attributes."

  • "Located at the Four Season's property, lobby was spectacular as well as walk through resort grounds to get to restaurant. Ulu's décor and view are also spectacular, right along ocean...food was above average and only disappointing note was the extremely slow service, not typical for a Four Season's, took 20 minutes for waiter to come to table and had to find him to pay the bill. Luckily the ambiance made up for the service."

  • "This restaurant is right on the beach with a beautiful view of the ocean (strategically lit at night so you can still watch the waves). The food was some of the best we have found on any of the islands."

  • "While in Hawaii for business, we were fortunate enough to entertain some clients at Ulu Ocean Grill and Sushi. It was definitely the best meal that I had during the week long trip and the views were amazing! Perched almost right on the water, it was lovely to dine on the most amazing food while listening to the waves crash right in front of us. I would have loved to dine there a few more times!"

  • "Fantastic romantic restaurant with wonderful food, attentive service and a totally beautiful setting. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Delightful place all around. Some of the seafood however was imported, a bit odd for a restaurant in the middle of the ocean, other than that nice place. Wine choices surprisingly limited."
    Dined on 1/21/2014
  • "We were very impressed and could not have enjoyed our experience more. The service was absolutely outstanding and helped us through the menu including wine selections, that were not the most expensive. Excellent food and a wonderful setting which would be hard to beat anywhere."

  • "Fantastic views, the only thing you hear is the surf, the food is fantastic and the service as good as it gets. We live in Kona and come here two or three times a year."

  • "Everything at Ulu is amazing: ambiance; service; food. It's the perfect place to celebrate any milestone you have or if you just want a romantic dinner. Be there when they light the torches along the beach path, that was a treat."

  • "The setting is speculation. You are almost on top of the gentle surf. Not a bad seat. The food was very special and delicious. Great choices, most from local sources. We come here every time we are on the big island. The staff even handled an unexpected rain shower well. Fantastic dinner"

  • "Great food and service complimented by one of the most beautiful back drops of the Pacific Ocean lapping the shore line. What a restaurant to have a special meal."

  • "We chose this restaurant as a place to celebrate a special occasion and it proved to be the perfect place. The food ant atmosphere were amazing. We were definitely spoiled by dining at Ulu!"

  • "Dining here is a perfect evening. Only a few feet away, the surf entertains as diners enjoy scrumptious sushi rolls and hapu fish entree. While on the island for 10 days, I chose to dine at 'Ulu twice and would have gone again if possible. Wait staff was amazing both visits. Whether you go for sunset or later, strategically placed lighting creates beautiful images not soon to be forgotten. Beautiful French sancere matches seafood selections and nicely grilled baby bok choy. When finishing your perfect evening, don't miss Chef's special popcorn to take home in a sweet little chinese carton. Looking forward to dining there again!"

  • "'Ulu Grill was the most amazing restaurant experience..... From the moment we stepped onto the bridge entry to our moonlit walk on the beach home....it was absolutely over the top in a very understated way and ALL with tropical elegance and stunning oceanside views! Excellent food! Fabulous and unique cocktails! Delicious appetizers! Wonderful service! This is the place you want to celebrate every occasion and is fine dining at its very best!"

  • "This is the best restaurant on the Big Island, without a doubt. Local, fresh fresh fresh, and delicious selections from a vast (but not overwhelmingly so) menu. Presentation on the plate and by servers is amazing. Wonderful wine list. Servers and all staff are the cream of the crop -- warm, friendly, professional, down to earth. The Four Seasons Hualalai gets everything right, including meals at Ulu. The most spectacularly beautiful beach setting as well."

  • "Thanks Ulu Ocean grill and sushi lounge!! We had a wonderful time and our server was just so nice to us! Food was perfect, delicious and many choices of wines available in a large fork of prices!!! Couple of feet from the nice sand beach in front of us, that night could not have been more perfect!!! ;)"

  • "My husband says this is his "Best Meal Ever". I thought it was definitely one of the best. WOW. Four Seasons service and quality all the way around. The flavors were incredible -- really bright and bold. A memorable meal, for sure."

  • "The ocean view is wonderful, but the food was not. However, the octopus was divine! The only menu item that is truly beautiful. We were there on a honeymoon & to celebrate my husband's birthday. So a little disappointed with the table next to the bar, which was rowdy and loud. On top of that they overcooked both of our steaks and the loco moco was not that great. We did a have a fabulous loco moco on in Kapaa on Kauai run by a local. Our hope was that this loco moco would be different, but delish. Unfortunately we left a little sad hearted as we had a $400 meal that didn't leave us wanting more. You know the more you want from tasting something great. No : ( we didn't have that. Maybe we shouldn't have had any high expectations."

  • "Just finished a wonderful meal at 'Ulu. The venue is unbelievable romantic with burning Tiki torches and softly crashing waves. The fish, mahi mahi and tuna were undeniably fresh and well prepared, but lacked any true risk taking or innovation. The starters, dumpling and a sushi roll, also lacked any wow factor but were each solid presentations. The stars of our evening were desserts. The soufflé was perfect and the dark chocolate shake with passion fruit donuts were outstanding with a magical mix of tart and sweet."

  • "The poke melted in my mouth. I ham a great fan of sushi, fish and Asian preparation and have never had poke, despite wanting to. This was the best meal ever. The flavors, the freshness, the level of attentive service, as well as the ambience and view. The restaurant boasts local ingredients and hat was a major highlight for us. We will return. The fried rice was incredible!!!!"

  • "An absolutely stunning setting on the sea!! Despite no moon the waves and beaches were well lit and very alluring. The ambience is really wonderful inside the restaurant with lovely views in all directions - clearly well designed and decorated. Our service from the greeting to the end of our meal was impeccable! An appetizer easily overlooked is fantastic - an organic fried egg served on a bed of roasted cauliflower!! Highly recommended. I had a sushi dish that was truly wonderful- others in our group had the small lobster tails with lemongrass dipping sauce , the daily catch and all were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We did not order dessert but were treated to few lovely freshly made beignets filled with tropical fruit."

  • "Ulu has a phenomenal setting on the beach at the Four Seasons. The restaurant tries to use local ingredients. We had the wild boar and the local version of sea bass and both were beyond delicious. We also had the smoked mashed potatoes and loved every bite."

  • "We dined at Ulu the last night of our Stay in Hawaii. It could not have been more perfect!. The outdoor table steps from the beach was outstanding! (Inside decor also stunning!) We booked early- so caught the Sunset---sent tingles ! Our party included our two little girls ages 8 and 5. They were treated like young ladies, and not annoyances. Attention to detail was admirable. Menu items were refreshingly innovative and delicious. It was just a perfect night...and expensive night---but well worth every penny!!"

  • "We have enjoyed this restaurant at the Four Seasons Hualalai for many years so we were apprehensive about the changes the hotel made last year including the name change to Ulu Grill. Our fears were unfounded as our dining experience was delightful. The restaurant continues to provided an exceptional variety for gluten free options which my husband requires. He was ecstatic at being able to have crispy fried calamari. Our appetizers and entrées were perfectly prepared and delicious, The service was excellent maybe not quite as overly attentive as we remember from previous visits to Pahu'ia. The fresh décor is beautiful and the setting very romantic. All in all we had a wonderful evening and are looking forward to returning."

  • "Our server was super helpful and very friendly, telling us his favourite dishes and why he liked them. He really made the night special. We ended up going with the kanpachi sashimi and the poke, both of which were very good, although the truffle-infused dipping sauce that came with the sashimi was weird and unnecessary. We had the grilled lobster, roasted mahi and mushroom-fried rice. The mahi was very good, although a little small. The rice was very delicious and very mushroomy. The lobster was disappointing and overcooked. The table beside us had the braised short ribs and they looked and smelled amazing; I wish I had gotten that instead of the lobster. Overall we'd go here again but we wouldn't order the lobster again."

  • "We often dine at 4 Seasons restaurants on the Big Island of Hawaii. Pahu'ia was outstanding and The Beach Tree Grill always exceeds our expectations. This was our first time dining at Ulu Ocean Grill. It was a huge disappointment. The Dungeness crab pot stickers lacked any taste of crab and were served cold. The lobster pad thai had very little lobster and lacked the flavor needed to make pad thai exciting. The mahi dish was overcooked and dry. Lastly, the chocolate soufflé missed the chocolate taste that it used to have when Pahu'ia There was only a hint of chocolate. This is a sad replacement for Pahu'ia. We will not dine here again nor will we recommend it to anyone. We have posted such reviews on other websites."
