From the owners of Coco Pazzo and Coco Pazzo Cafe, Tre Soldi invites you to delight in the flavors of Rome. Tre Soldi is a Roman-style trattoria located on bustling Ohio Street, just off the Magnificent Mile and walking distance to Lurie Children's, Northwestern Hospital and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Tre Soldi (meaning three coins in Italian) garners inspiration from the Trevi Fountain in Rome, made famous in the 1954 movie Three Coins in the Fountain. Murals of the iconic fountain and the rooftops of Rome bring a warm ambiance to the casual, contemporary atmosphere. The menu features classic house-made pastas, pizza as well as daily fish and meat specials. An emphasis is given to local farmers' offerings. The full bar features several Italian craft beers, more that 20 wines by the glass or quartino, and a 100 bottle wine list. Outdoor seating opens in late July.

  • "We booked a table here using open table because it was close to our hotel. We were in town visiting family and had a large party. Table was ready when we arrived and service was very attentive. Overall food was excellent. The cheese pizza my little one had was not the greatest, but my margherita pizza was pretty good. Rest of the food and appetizers were excellent. Overall we had a great experience."

  • "The past few times we have been out to eat we could hardly talk across the table to each other. What a pleasant surprise to be able to talk without almost yelling. The food was also outstanding. We started with the calamari. Very tender and good. We both had one of the specials. My wife had the risotto with smoked prosciutto and mushrooms. I had the pappardelle with rabbit ragu. Both were wonderful dishes. Service was very attentive. We will be back. A great evening."

  • "This was our first visit dining here. The food and staff made it a pleasant one. The roasted beets and carpaccio were excellent to start the meal. The pizzas (Norma & Matriciana) had a nice crispy crust and a flavorful blend of ingredients. The staff was very attentive. Great service! We look forward to a return visit to try their pasta meals."

  • "I had looked up Tre Soldi on the computer. There was a group of very appealing photos showing different foods that Tre Soldi offers. Two of the dishes looked particularly appealing. When we got to the restaurant, we didn't see one of the items. I asked the waiter, whose English leaves a lot to be desired. We couldn't communicate too well. He sent the manager over. The manager didn't know what photos I was talking about and didn't know the dish I was describing. He went away and came back later and said that he looked up the restaurant's site and found the dish I was looking for. He said that this was not the season for that dish. No one speaks Italian in an Italian restaurant. Are there NO ITALIAN waiters in Chicago??"

  • "Converged to an average experience, nothing great, nothing terrible: - Space: Really tight seating, few tables right by door that opens up onto street (imagine a retail storefront); watch out on a cold/windy day - Service: Twice had wrong items sent (from another table). But they remediated quickly. We told them we were in a hurry, and they obliged with quick service - Food: Had the ricotta-honey Crostini, the one at Davanti Enoteca was better by FACTORS. Lamb meatballs were neither delicious by themselves, nor did they come with good flavor pairings in drizzles/dipping sauce. Pastas were good, light, cooked right. Sausage & egg pizza had a nice light crust, tasty/light spicy sauce At $54/pp, I hoped for a slightly better dining experience"

  • "The service was excellent. The restaurant was crowded and extremely loud due to a party that was happening. Our server had to practically yell. We had their pizza, which was good, pasta and veal which were both far too salty. Without us asking, the manager gave us a free dessert because of the noise, chocolate gelato, which was also good. All in all, great service, meh food, bad ambiance-although that's probably just because of the party."

  • "I have been to Tre Soldi two times. Both times I met with other authors and it was a wonderful place to enjoy food and catching up on what we've been publishing lately. Great appetizers, and desserts. One of the specials was trout and that is what I had. It was delicious. The chocolate hazelnut tart and the bread pudding was outstanding. We shared. Everything was reasonably priced and they didn't mind splitting the ticket. I don't drink, but a couple of the other authors enjoyed the wine selection. I would highly recommend Tre Soldi as a great Chicago Italian restaurant."

  • "While the Marguerite Pizza was good (it was tasty but a little over cooked), the entrees were so so. Mine was a pasta with a non descript red sauce, not much taste, with clams, calamari. My biggest complaint of the night was the noise level. We were seated next to a party, yes a big party in the bar area. I could not even hear my dining companion across the booth from me. I will try this place again as the prices were reasonable and I liked the pizza, but I will make sure to try to pick my table. The service by the way was excellent! No complaints there, very attentive"

  • "Place has potential, but execution needs sharpening. 1.) They messed up our reservation. 2.) They advertise as "Roman cuisine," but with few exceptions (the absolutely terrific octopus appetizer being one of them), the food was typical of most Italian spots. 3.) Stop trying to convince diners that asparagus is seasonal to CHI in January..it isn't! Food was good--octopus app already mentioned. Pizza was flavorful, but crust was underdone and not crisp. Kale was typically prepared. Wine list was good; w/good selection by the glass. Service was fine--typical of what you'd find in any place like this. The ambiance is very good, considering what they had to work with space-wise. It's a neighborhood spot & hopefully they'll work out the kinks."

Very comfortable ambiance, great food, friendly service. We took a table by the windows and split a pizza for an appetizer. The entrées were perfect - not too large, not too small, delicious. We loved it so much we came back week later, much later in the evening. The Maitre D recognized us and gave us a tour of the kitchen - great fun."

  • "When we first arrived we were surprised that the restaurant was a little smaller than expected, certainly not a place where you would bring a group of more than 10. The staff was very attentive, sometimes a little more than what I would have preferred but that was understandable since the were not many other guests on the Wednesday evening that we dined at Tre Soldi. We were seated near the windows, which gave us a view notable not because of the scenery, but because of the amount of people watching that could be done. The food arrived reasonably quick and though the presentation wasn't as glamorous as other restaurants, it definitely made up for it with it's flavor. Both of our meals and the appetizer were great. We will definitely return."
