Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to this restaurant many times and I have always had excellent meals."

  • "Excellent choice for dinner before performance at Zellerbach. A bit of a walk, but worth the effort. Had the sole and my granddaughter had gnocchi. Appetizers to dessert all tasty with efficient service in crowded room. Every table occupied with guests waiting. Friendly welcome despite my arriving late for my reservation due to miscalculating the walk. I will look, forward to another visit when in Berkeley. Found it on the Internet looking for restaurants near the Zellerbach. Thank you!"

  • "authentic and fresh northern italian options; loved the branzino, the wild boar ragu, and the friendly service/ambiance......beats most of the local italian spots in the east bay"

  • "It was an overwhelmingly "pretty good" experience: the food, the service (although we had real trouble understanding one server), the ambiance (dark and loud, but not overwhelmingly so). It was a bit pricey for a casual "hey, let's eat out" time -- about ninety dollars with tip but not wine for two -- but we'll return sometime for a special occasion."

  • "My wife and I wanted to have a nice meal before a show at the Zellerbach. Corso came through. She enjoyed the bass and I had the flat iron steak. The waiter was very helpful in making sure we were done in time to make the show."

  • "I always read the Fair and below reviews to get a balanced opinion. I was disappointed. Had the asparagus soup and Little Gem Salad. The soup was great. The fresh tarragon dressing was superb but the radishes were quartered the same as the carrots; who is expecting a big, crunchy mouthful of peppery radish? Odd choice of preparation from the salad prep. Entrees were sadly underwhelming. The brick chicken thigh was the puniest I've ever had in a restaurant and it came with a pile - yes, an actual pile - of overcooked broccolini. I instead ate the grilled asparagus, which was delicious. I most likey wil not return nor recommend. I would prefer a more straightforward menu that sticks to it's supposed Tuscan roots. Ps: our server was terrific."

  • "I'd heard of this restaurant for years, but never ventured. I finally bit the bullet, and Corso lived up to the hype. The veal chop was amazing and our server was very attentive and helpful. The atmosphere was lively but not overtly. Great for intimate dining. I will revisit!"

  • "We shared salumi for an appetizer. Good, but not great. In the US, however, just having salumi is fantastic. Our contorni -- one spinach and one asparagus -- were both excellent. Both pastas were fine. My sauce was excellent, although the pappardelle could have been cooked a little less. I plan to eat there again. One of us arrived with backpack and computer case. The staff offered good, secure storage, which we declined, but appreciated. While the gear presented a few challenges for everyone, it all worked out. Again, that is a sign of real service. Some people have observed that I sometimes understate things. If I say good, I mean worthwhile and I don't say it often."

  • "Best gnocchi I've ever had. All around, the food was spectacular. My server forgot my side dish, though, and then ignored me for a long period. The manager came to apologize and gave me a free side and dessert, so I appreciated that. Despite the hiccup, I would definitely go back for the incredible menu."

  • "The food was excellent and all the dishes, we had different primis, secondis and desserts and all were absolutely delicious, ! I can absolutely recommend that restaurant. The service was attentive, helpful and very nice."

  • "Really freh pasta, love the half glass of wine options. Just wish they would change their menu more often to include seasonal ingredients."

  • "Corso has become our neighborhood place. We always like the menu and the way food is prepared. Manager is around and personable, making it feel very friendly and responsive. It always feels like a great way to kickoff the weekend by rewarding us with a nice meal out on a Friday night."

  • "I have dinner at Corso a couple times a month. It is always at least 4 star and occasionally 5 star, which is not a rating I give freely or often. Last night was 5 star for all four of us."

  • "I had a mid-week dinner here with a family member. We both found the food extremely tasty and nicely presented without being fussily over-adorned. Service was attentive and professional. One possible drawback for some: portions were on the skimpy side vis-à-vis price."

  • "We loved the experience and asking for a quiet table to celebrate our anniversary did help. We DID get what we thought was the best table in the house for a romantic evening. The food was excellent, we enjoyed every course. The deep fried chicken breast was really good. I was skeptical at first when I saw it floating in a bath of butter, but one bite and I was hooked on it. We weren't that crazy about the service. It was OK, but the staff waiting on us just had the worst timing this evening. They would show up at our table right in the middle of our conversations and while we let the first few go, it did become a little disruptive as the evening went on."

  • "Everything was exceptional - can't wait to go back!!!!!"

  • "Corso is still wonderful. The chicken liver with capers and sage bruschetta was just to die for! The grouper with pesto was not nearly as special as the branzino I usually order. Our waiter was interested and attentive and made a fantastic recommendation of two wines that were excellent on their own but also really paired well with our different courses. He also brought us complimentary amaretti with a birthday candle - really, really nice!"

  • "Dined at Corso again and as usual the food was excellent. The menu is always creative for a trattoria of this size and the menu has an excellent selection. We dined well but the service misses a few beats. This is the second time in the last few months that we have been at Corso with our own bottle of wine and it is the second time that they failed to extract the cork in one piece. And it's not that I do not know these wines as they are from my cellar and open them frequently with no difficulty. Despite this, service at the table is fine and the waitstaff are very pleasant. Corso is still an excellent restaurant to visit for very good food at reasonable prices."

  • "Chicken was excellent but skimpy. It ought to have a side with it; we should not have to pay extra for one. My friend had tortellini and it looked the size of an appetizer. Diners were too close by and after one glass of red wine one gets too warm and uncomfortable. A window that could open would be a great concept!"

  • "This restaurant is perfect for a special night out with a smaller group. Amazing ambience and located right in the heart of the best gourmet food area on the west coast (in my opinion). This place seems to be packed just about every night of the week so make sure to make reservations ahead of time."

  • "This spot is our go-to neighborhood dinner place. Delicious main courses- routine specials or surprises on daily menu. I must often order the tagliatelle with braised pork and beef or their rich butter dipped fried chicken breast. Salads change routinely with interesting and tasty twists - arugula with varied nut, veggie or fruit additions. Desserts are also not to be missed. Their wine choices vary from very affordable to new and interesting vintage wines. It has a cozy and tasteful ambiance -the staff are always accommodating and friendly. We love it here and return on a weekly basis with friends and family who are in town or visiting. Cheers!"

  • "We have always thought the food at Corso is as close to that in Italy as we have experienced. Small tables, shared tables provide an intimate dining experience. The menu is a little limited but specials are almost always available. The "salumi" starter is quite good. The salads have always been quite fresh. We have always enjoyed the variety of pasta courses and the main courses."

  • "We are planning a trip to Italy this summer and thought we would get "in the mood" - the food was well prepared and delicious, with excellent quality throughout. They accommodated a late addition to our table. The wait staff was attentive, friendly and not put off when six of us shared the cherry ice cream sundae. The somelier did not try to sell us a more expensive wine- he congratulated us on finding what might just be the best buy on the menu (a red from Montepulciano). The space is a little tight - I would not go with a very large party, but despite the general jovial atmosphere, we could speak in a conversational tone and be heard. Great neighborhood find. About $50/person exclusive of wine/drinks for two courses and appetizer."

  • "We love this restaurant, as long as we're not too crowded in. The lattuga salad if fresh and delicious, ane the Branzino is perfectly grilled, flaky, almost sweet. Corso has the best, light pan a cotta for dessert, and the sundaes are incredible... Service is friendly and prompt."

  • "My husband and I sat at the counter and watched the three line cooks. They were awesome. I watched them make pasta, meat, and dessert. Very creative menu. Great execution and quite a show. Very confident cooks. Constantly tasting and adjusting. One pan went up in flames, but the chef just took it in stride and started over. It was our anniversary. Our server may have been the owner. He had great input and was extremely attentive. Thank you so much. We had a great time and will be back again!"

  • "We're on a veggie/protein diet. Corso has a great many of options. Food was great. We don't enjoy all veggie restaurants. Corso's food is flavorful. Wine is served by 1/2 glass/glass/bottle. Great options. This is a neighborhood restaurant which was great for a pre-Zellerbach meal."

  • "Corso's menu continues to be innovative yet it maintains a selection of favorites such as a tripe dish and panacotta. Primi and secondi on this visit were varied and our choices from these lists were excellent."

  • "Corso has become my go-to place for a slightly pricey but incredibly well cooked and seasoned and wonderfully interesting dinner. Menu changes frequently but I have yet to have a bad meal - all food is fresh and beautifully seasoned with perfectly portioned courses. Service is absolutely excellent - friendly and professional, courteous and knowledgeable. The ambiance is intimate and warm, comforting and comfortable. I have never been disappointed in all of my visits."

  • "My favorite Berkeley restaurant: reasonably priced, delicious, great staff. Try to reserve during an "off hour" if you wish to converse. It can be quite noisy."

  • "Corso is our favorite restaurant. My wife and II eat out someplace nice every week, and Corso is our choice about twice a month. We eat lots of very nice places, and say to each other boy that was nice, but Corso was better, or that was really good, but Corso was as good and cheaper. By this time we have tried nearly everything on the menu. While we have our favorites, we have never had a bad meal, or even a bad course. The steak is wonderful. The potato and bean (Fagioli) dishes are wonderful, and vary periodically. The pastas are reliable and a bargain. Peter the manager knows both the wine and the food. My advice is to take his advice. But don't go too often--we want to be able to get in on weeknights!"

  • "I took my wife and 2 daughters to Corso for a holiday treat. We had an excellent meal: great table, food, and service. Our waitress was very helpful in suggesting appetizers to share, and selections that our vegetarian would enjoy. The homemade pasta is an absolute treat, and raises Corso to another level in comparison to many good Italian restaurants. Wine, drinks, and desserts are also first rate. We really appreciate the pacing of the meal. Reservations are well managed and spaced. Management is really focused on providing an enjoyable dining experience and not turning tables. It's a pleasure to dine at Corso."

  • "I went to Trattoria Corso a few years ago when it had just opened and had a wonderful experience. I just returned to Berkeley after a couple of years and decided to stop in for a visit. This time my experience was not so good: the food is still amazing, but the service was lacking. Servers were slow and were not very friendly. It took very long to for us to get our meals and the place wasn't even crowded. We had made a reservation through Opentable and I even called to confirm it, but by the time we got to the restaurant they didn't have a table waiting for us and gave us the first one they could find. It was definitely an unfortunate experience."

  • "We have had 2 great experiences there in the past 2 months. The service is outstanding and the food is incredible. Salami plate as a starter is a must! The branzino was the best I've had anywhere. The wine list is primarily Italian which we're not to familiar with but our server made the perfect recommendations. Also their house aged tequila is a particular favorite of mine. We've recommended it to friends and everyone who's been there have loved it as well."

  • "This is probably my favorite restaurant... Is a classic itallian neighborhood trattoria... Almost EVERY dish is outrageously good. I had a crepe appetizer last time that was fabulous. I have tried lots of different dishes, and they are almost always interesting and soooo good. BUT, its tough to get a reservation... so plan ahead."

  • "I think Corso is hands down the best I talian food in the Bay Area. It's always spot on when I eat there. The house made salumi is outstanding, the chicken breast in butter is sublime and the steak is the biggest and best I've ever had. The house made pastas are always interesting and delicious. Corso is a gem."
