  • "Great upscale atmosphere & outdoor patio with variety on a scaled down menu and our food was great. We went for lunch, but have already returned for a late dinner & was impressed both times with our food & servers. The burger was great, the Cuban was pretty good, the seasoned fries with cumin ketchup were a great housemade take, and the mini monte cristos were to die for - with a pepper jelly that sent it over the top & were not mini! I could only finish 2 of the 3. But others wouldn't let those go to waste. Excited to have this upscale tavern in the neighborhood - my husband said this could be his new favorite place. Looking forward to trying the lobster roll next time. Impressed."

  • "By the time we left, it was packed and the noise level was over-the-top, but that won't deter me from returning. Service was outstanding, menu has nothing typical or mundane (unless you think fried chicken is mundane-it was great!) We were there for 2 1/2 hours and loved every minute."

  • "My friend and I had the trout, which was wonderful. Loved the creamy horseradish, even though I'm not big on hot spicy things. This was perfect combined with the lingonberry sauce. The presentation was appealing. Our husbands ordered the brisket hamburger and they loved their entrees. We all shared the cauliflower au gratin - could have used just a little bit more cheese (but then I LOVE cheese)The chopped salad has all kinds of interesting items chopped up small so ever bite had multi flavors. Naturally we all had dessert: buttermilk pie with blueberry sauce and flourless chocolate pie. Amazing. The only drawback is the loud noise level. It was very hard for the 4 of use to have a conversation. Next time we'll try outside."

  • "My wife and I tried 3 Flags for the first time and we were really impressed. We made reservations but arrived early so we decided to eat at the bar. The bar was fun and drinks were reasonable. We tried the Connecticut lobster roll and Pork 3 ways. Both dishes were excellent. The lobster roll has lots of lobster. The pork dish had a delicious sauce different types of pork including a pork chop and a pork loin. The pork was cooked perfectly. We really enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back soon."

  • "We went here to celebrate our anniversary and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing and the service was spectacular. Our server was well versed in the menu and specials, and even explained to us the meaning of the name and history of the Three Flags when we asked her. We will definitely be back."

  • "A friend recommended Three Flags Tavern to me so I went in with high expectations. I was blown away by the deliciousness of the menu items. Additionally, the onsite mixologist has come up with some tasty cocktails to enjoy with dinner. Highly recommend the Monte Cristo sandwich and the flourless chocolate dessert. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "I've been to 3FT numerous times and reviewed numerous dishes, but for some reason I held out on getting the fabled fried chicken. Well! Run don't walk. Get one of their great starters and then allow for the (advertised) 30-minute wait. The textra ime is because your four juicy pieces are hand battered and pan-fried in cast iron. The fluffy biscuit and rich gravy are just, well, "gravy" on top of this amazing dish."

  • "As you can see by our ratings, everything was very good with one huge exception that, unless abated, will prevent us from returning. The decor in the dining room is ALL hardscape- glass, metal, stone. The noise was absolutely incredible and prevented conversation among the four of us. We almost had to shout to be heard above our neighbors, who were almost shouting to be heard above their neighbors, and so on. Luckily, my wife has hearing aids which she removed and so dined in blissful silence (altho she missed all conversation). We other three merely endured and skedaddled before dessert."

  • "My first time was a very pleasant experience. I don't normally like lamb but I ordered the lamb burger and it was delicious. The potato bun on the burger was also a winner. The potatoes (Papas Bravas) were very well seasoned with a hint of spicy. I would go back to try something else on the menu in a heartbeat. The ceilings are high and it did get noisy for good table conversation. I highly recommend it."

  • "Until the owners can mute the noise level in the dining room or if you are a large group and it is not bothersome, I would ask for a table on the patio. I understand these old buildings have such high ceilings. It looks like they will be expanding the patio too which is a good thing. We were a table of 4 and had to yell at each other for conversation, we requested an outdoor table and eventually were moved. The dining room and bar are very handsome, English and cozy. The servers were great and knew the menu and happy to answer questions. The food was outstanding! Our table had fried chicken, lobster roll, burger and shrimp and grits, also a side of fries and cauliflower and both desserts. All very good. They are off to a great start."

  • "It was cooked well and the bun was very good and I'm not really very interested in bread but I didn't find the brisket burger to be better or as good as some other normally priced burgers in St. Louis. It was expensive and did not come with the traditional fries. You could buy those and pay extra as a side."

  • "We chose Three Flags for dinner before going to the Muny this past Sat eve. Our reservations were for 6pm and we were seated promptly upon arrival. because of some of the reviews I read, I informed our server that we needed to be out of there by 7:30, but it was never an issue. Two people in our party had the Steak Diane, my wife had the Scallops and Shrimp, and I had the Brisket Burger. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The service was very good and it was a beautiful evening to dine on the patio. Since we dined outside I can't really speak to the noise levels inside, but we did check it out when we left and found it to be a very pleasant space with noise levels you would expect in a busy restaurant."

  • "This restaurant is wonderful as regards food and service. At present it's terribly popular on the weekends and we ended up at an awful table where the sun was directly in our eyes and, though the restaurant was low-lighted, we had to wear sunglasses for the majority of the meal. Despite that, we enjoyed the food and the waitress was very cordial and efficient. The best testament to this restaurant was the full outdoor seating on a hot July evening!"

  • "They're just not there yet. Equal parts service and menu. Service: our gal was sweet but she needs to identify her priorities. Not mentioning specials, not asking for cocktails, visits to our table infrequent requiring me at one point to go to bar to get my first beer, stuff like that. Food, have no idea what the spices were in the chicken but they didn't work. Also, they need to know how to make a biscuit. Suggestion: visit a Hardee's! My brisket burger was very bland and, once again the service issue, I asked to hold the bacon and didn't get cheese or onion? Does this younger generation of chef's recognize the role good service plays in a dining experience, evidently these folks haven't gotten the message!"

  • "Excited to go. Bar @ 5 PM and keep in mind we've had these reservations for three weeks and this was the only time we could get in. Food, mediocre at best. App. Rabbit sausage was cardboard ,tacos, just plain. Mixed grill -good. Sliced potato was not cooked in middle/cold. Asparagus w/hollandaise had to ask for hollandaise sauce for our cold asparagus so that was another x. second person had the grits with shrimp and scallops two scallops two shrimp huge bowl small portion. The burger was okay, ordered rare,got medrare. The bun was hard as a rock.Steak Diane, no curb appeal. Waitress forgot sauce, so we had to ask. Fiasco . All in all, not returning. prices were high for the quality of food."

  • "At our table for three at noon on Saturday we enjoyed a relaxed encounter, unrushed, excellent service, very nice and special food -- roast turkey club sandwiches, chicken salad. The restaurant filled up during our 90 minutes there, but we were able to carry on a conversation in normal tones of voice. We shall return."

  • "In June, the Riverfront Times claimed this restaurant to be the best restaurant of 2014. The food was certainly good but not great. The burger, which the RFTs particularly extolled, was so greasy from simply the amount of butter on the bun that it was almost inedible. The actual burger part was pretty darn good. The rest of the food was good enough that I'd give it another shot. The patio is an amazing feature that in and of itself warrants another visit."

  • "Although excellent in some aspects, Three Flags fell short with a number of dishes. The appetizers did not keep up with the main dishes and the quality varied widely. Lobster beignets were disappointing with uncooked centers and a totally tasteless dipping sauce (was supposed to be butter and spicy and lobster tasting). Fried cheese sticks were very greasy. Special fish was outstanding, special pork plate- pork was outstanding as was the relish that accompanied it but the " heirloom tomatoes" topping amounted to 3 some split grape tomatoes. Shrimp and grits was excellent."

  • "We'd been hearing rave reviews for this new place, so we decided to check this off our to-try list over 4th of July weekend. And while we definitely want to go back to try other menu items, particularly for dinner, we went for lunch specifically to have the lobster rolls. We ordered one of each preparation style (Maine & Connecticut). Both were excellent! Very few places in town serve lobster rolls (STL isn't exactly well located for such coastal cuisine) but thumbs up for Three Flags."

  • "Made reservations after seeing a rave review in paper, then was a bit wary after reading some of these reviews. All I can say is, everything I had was EXCELLENT. My friend said the same. I had the chopped salad, the pork assortment with heirloom tomatoes, and a made-to-order stone fruit cobbler. Not one course came up short--salad was interesting with an assortment of flavors and textures. Meat was tender and flavorful, with a perfect sweet/hot chutney on the side. And the dessert--flaky, light crust over warm fruit with vanilla ice cream melting down. What else can I say? The service was mixed--very personable, but not quick to bring second round of wine, etc. Go here, by all means! Just don't plan a scheduled event immediately after."

  • "The food wasn't fabulous, but it was very good. A little smaller portion than expected with the entrees. The lobster beignets were a little greasy but delish. (Overpriced, though.) Shrimp 'n' grits great, but the scallops in that dish were too salty and a little gritty—a real no no. Server needed to check water, etc. more often, but very friendly and knowledgable. As per many other reviews, way too noisy. They'll have to do something about that soon. You get the idea: lots to like, but didn't knock our socks off."

There was another larger group being served and that could have been why since we were behind them but we think they should have been able to handle both groups. The noise level, especially from the larger group made it almost impossible to hear our smaller group conversations. Also, there was a terrible glare from the front windows."

  • "We arrived on time and were seated right away. The first order of chips was served cold and greasy. the second order tacos came with two shells wrapped around some old meat, they were also cold. So we ordered our main entrees hoping for better luck. The fried chicken "their special" was commercially breaded and over cooked, the hamburger was dry and crumbly and the fish special (an artic char) had been chopped off a bigger slab of fish and hastiliy applied to our plates.The herbs a were not interesting the presentation dull. I could have done better at home."

  • "We were back for the second time and had dinner outside. It was deligtful and the food was delicious. I had the lobster roll - it presents beautifully but I wish it was chopped a bit more because the claw meat all came in one bite - leaving a lot of roll almost empty. The trout was delcious and 2 people at our table thought the steak was wonderful. Our waitress was fun, energetic and knowledgeable. Went inside for a moment and in the diningroom, with 3 empty tables, it was so loud it was hard to hear anything. They really need to do something IMPORTANT to help muffle the noise - maybe swing/tack flags from corner to corner (appropros of the name) to soften the noise level - it is really bad. I took a whole star off for that!"

  • "One of the finest meals we've had in St Louis. I had the steak which was tender, tasty, and perfectly grilled and my wife had the fish which she said was superb. Desert selection is very good and our choice was so tasty I wished we weren't splitting it. We even purchased gift certificate while we were there. Highly recommend!"
