Diner Reviews
  • "We have eaten here numerous times and the quality of the food, and the service continue to excel. Trout appetizer is spectacular, unique and a preparation we have not had anywhere else. Steaks were well prepared and accompanied with a selection of sauces - the best are the cabernet reduction and the mushroom. We finished with an incredible peanut butter crème brule. We have sat in the main dining room and watched the trains go by - surprisingly quiet, the glass must be quite think. Requested the train car seating on this trip, and you just can not beat the ambience. Wait staff was attentive and efficient, friendly and knowledgable."

  • "Went to the Vintage Steakhouse for a Living Social dinner for four coupon, but ended up ordering from the regular menu (our request) and receiving a credit towards our bill. Started with cocktails, Pullman Pomegranate Martini, Salty Pear Martini, Manhattan Station and the French Martini, all excellent! We chose the Artichoke hearts (ohhh with bread) and the Mussels and Manila Clams (delicious broth) appetizers. Entrees were the New York steak, the Roasted Rack of Lamb, the Salmon and a Broiled Halibut special. All cooked perfectly and amazing flavors. Dessert was Peanut Butter Creme Brulee and the vanilla bean profiteroles all with prosecco and champagne. Great experience...kudos to Carlos, Scott, Mike, Chef Byron. Great wines (no space)!!"

  • "I would not recommend this restaurant! Horrible service, had to go to bar to get drinks, steaks were over cooked - We ended up walking out!!"

  • "While the young man who bussed our table was somewhat...confused, overall we enjoyed the experience. Food was good if a bit pricey, service average, and the ambience outstanding. Pullman car dining is romantic and nostalgic."

  • "Hubby and I went with a Groupon. first mistake. Hostess informed us of a $20 upcharge. Since the couple next to us got the same speech, I see this is common.Even though we had an early reservation and there were many tables ,we were seated at the smallest table ever. So small it was difficult to have the appetizer at the same time as the bread. So small, the two dinner plates hung over the edges of both sides of the table!Spinach salad was only leaves and dressing. Waiter criticized Cab (what I wanted and is often paired with steak) Worst of all, we watched the hostess ask 4 seniors chatting quietly after paying their bill to leave the table. There were plenty of open tables and this one remained empty for 20 minutes. RUDE!"

  • "Service was terrible it was our fifth anniversary wife salmon was burnt had to send back so I was eating alone and my food was not hot, after initial order we saw server maybe 4times our water glasses were always empty half way thru my meal when my wife's meal finally showed up I asked for another drink BTW this was not our server. Server came back 5 min. Later said drink was almost done server came back 15 min. Later with drink by then I was done with my meal so I no longer wanted the drink. Overall the whole experience was bad we were always waiting. They never even acknowledged our anniversary. Oh our servers name was Carlos"

  • "out of town, went to Yelp and Open Table and found this gem...my local hosts had never tried it...food outstanding, service couldn't be better, ambience and noise were perfect for a quiet evening chatting, savoving a fine dinner."

  • "We have been to this restaurant many times before with pleasant experiences. Unfortunately, we chose the wrong day/time to go. We used a travelzoo voucher, and 1 of 3 appetizer options as well as 1 of 4 soup/salad options were not available. For the main dish, I ordered the New York steak (medium), and it was more than well done. I mentioned it to our server, but didn't have them re do it. For dessert, we ordered the ice cream puffs (and I just noticed they are not on the regular menu) and I swear they were out from a Costco bag... Terrible! The only reason why we would give it another chance is because we received a gift certificate to use later for all the inconveniences. Otherwise they will be out of our list of places to go to!"

  • "A great steakhouse with a twist- the dining rooms are refurbished dining and sleeper train cars. Try the bone in New York steak with the twice baked potato. Julie raved over the Prawns. She also loved the Mushroom soup a as an appetizer. Full bar but limited gins. "

  • "The food was good. The service? Well, at least every 3 minutes someone came up to ask if everything was okay, but my husband ordered a salad with his lunch and they forgot it, so we canceled it. Food took a while to get to the table. Otherwise a fun place to eat."

  • "we had the surf and turf. The lobster was dry and not good. The filet mignon was just fair. We spent two hours there because the service was sooooo slow. The staff was very friendly."

  • "I had a horrible experience! My spinach salad was spinach on a plate, straight from the package! Nothing else in it. Oh did I mention $12 for my spinach on my plate! My water glass was never refilled. I was never was asked for another drink. Service was non existence!! Appetizer portions extremely small and overpriced. Just really not worth your time or money to go here!!"

  • "We had 8 plus a baby & everything was perfect, All 8 dinners arrived together & all hot & cooked just right. There were 8 of us plus a baby for a family celebration. The food was wonderful, as usual, & our waiter, Charlie, outstanding. "

  • "Our first visit and we were very pleased. Very friendly staff. We were "Voucher" diners and given a different menu to choose our 4 course dinner. Server treated us no less. Started with the smoked trout, Excellent! Moved forward with a tomato bisque soup and a nice salad. Entrees were the pork chop and steak. Both cooked to perfection. For dessert try the peanut butter cream briulle. Overall experience was very nice. Dining in an old rail car was fun too. "

  • "Our waiter was only existent when he took our order and when we asked for the bill. We were a large party but we weren't needy. Waiter constantly asked how the tables next to us were doing but is, not once. The water filler guy was rude. Never got refills on water until we asked an hr later. Steaks were incorrectly. Lack of service... Came in for Mother's Day dinner. No greeting, but the staff greeted parties with young date couples with no kids at the table. We were a party of 13, three moms with four kids present. Not very welcoming. Waste of money, gas, time spent driving here from Lake Elsinore. Will NEVER come back. And there is a Yelp review already."

  • "I took my wife up to San Juan Capistrano from San Diego for dinner and a comedy show for Mother's Day. We loved the show but were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, service and the wonderful ambiance of The Vintage Steakhouse. Our meals were expertly prepared, served extremely hot (beware of the warning....hot means hot!) and everything was delicious. We both would recommend The Vintage Steakhouse to friends and family. They are located right next to the Amtrak station, so if you had the time, you could avoid the drive on the I5 by hopping on the train and arriving at their doorstep; something I believe we will be planning in the future. • "The service was good and eating in the old dining car was neat. The food was so bad, I ordered a steak and left half of it on the plate. My wifes fish smelled so bad she barely ate it. Would not even think of going back."

  • "We have been going to the Vintage Steak House for a few years now. It is our go to place for special occasions as well as a nice dinner out 'just because'. We typically buy a group on and do the 4 course pre-set menu. But even without a groupon, having dinner and dessert adds up to a similar cost."

  • "Dinner for four - wine list pretty good; service good; food - costly for the quality. Signature corn salad was a great idea, but chopped red onion in the salad was not fresh. Maybe better to wait to mix in the onion to closer to serving time. Smoked pork chop good, bone in filet good. Bone in Sirlion which was a special was tough and gristly. Twice baked potato and side veg were wonderful. Overall, the meat quality is not commensurate with the price tag."

  • "The restaraunt was pretty nice. The food was good, the train car feel kinda leaves you feeling cramped but for the most part you appreciate the decor and ambiance. The food is pretty great but they should really specify in more detail ingredients in the particular dishes. Like the fact that there is bacon in the twice baked potato, it didn't say on the menu and I wasn't thrilled to find it in there. They could really dust some of the curtains that are hanging all over the place, it was kind of gross to see how many dust bunnies were collecting on them, and a spider scurried across our table while we were dining, not fun..."

  • "I picked this place because of the reviews I saw on the internet. I now believe them. This was a great place to eat and a great atmosphere. If you like steak which is cook over mesquite, you will love this place. I had made reservation for 6pm but did not arrive until 6:30pm so I thought I might loose my reservation. When we arrive, they took us right in and we did not have to wait at all. Service was fast and the waiter was fantastic. Highly recommended."

  • "The ambiance was very nice in a train. We went for Travelzoo special. The waiter was excellent. Very courteous & checked on us several times. We picked the smoked trout as appetizer & it was good. My hubby ordered the spinach salad & I ordered the Caesar salad. The spinach salad was very plain; had only spinach with bacon dressing & nothing else. He did not like the flavor of dressing. Mine was huge but nothing special. We both had top sirloin (the only choice of beef), cooked medium rare. I don't think they used prime cut of beef as steakhouses normally do. Maybe because it was a Travelzoo special. The meat was tough & not flavorful at all! I didn't finish my meat. We will not return."

  • "My received a Chicken Picata but she ordered Mesquite Grilled Chicken. She told the waiter that what she received was not Mesquite Grilled. He said it was. He took it and returned with a Mesquite Grilled Chicken grill marks and all. The new Lunch menu is very scanty but well priced. The Chef is noted for his daily mushroom creation. So far it has always been Hedgehog mushrooms. Not very creative."

  • "For those who dream of dining on the Orient Express for a night without having to leave Orange County Ca - the Vintage Steakhouse is for you. It has that old 1920's feel and a great ambiance. The hostess took us to our "car" and our "butler" promptly appeared w/ bread, fresh linen napkins and ice water w/ lemon. For the romantics.. search no more."
