A word from The Veranda at the Kahala Resort
Relax in the romantic ambience of old Hawaii. A perfect meeting place for afternoon tea or cocktails with live jazz entertainment in the evening.

Designed in classic plantation style, The Veranda takes patrons back to another time when life was more leisurely and meeting with friends for tea and conversation was a daily affair. The comfortable lounge overlooks the Dolphin Lagoon with a choice of both indoor and al fresco seating. Large, upholstered chairs are perfect for lingering over a cocktail or just escaping with a good book, as palm leaf motifs and island-inspired furnishings transport you to that other time.

Our Afternoon Tea is a tradition, after a day out discovering Oahu. It is also a popular venue for special occasions and showers. Afternoon Tea includes your choice of Harney & Sons Tea or 100% Kona Peaberry coffee with pastries.

Diner Reviews
  • "Although rain was in the forecast, it was a splendid evening. The Veranda is very relaxing, inviting, comfy with a simple dining menu. Great ambiance with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. We also enjoyed the live Jazz music that adds to the romantic mood of the place. Service was a bit challenging for staff this evening, but on other occasions we were well pleased. It's a great place to get a night cap too!"

  • "We went to the Veranda at the Kahala for afternoon tea. Sandwiches were chosen (only place where you can pick the sandwiches for afternoon tea). The pastries were OK; too much coconut for me. Sandwiches were very tasty, scones were excellent."

  • "We had a very nice evening with the band in the next room playing some great music at just the right noise level. Superb service from our waitress and the food was very good . . . my wife's fish was excellent and she had one of the best lemon drop martinis ever! Great to have a near by place to enjoy an evening."

  • "The Veranda is a GEM! Located at The Kahala Hotel & Resort, away from Waikiki and traffic; a perfect place to have an early dinner and cocktails, Loved listening to David Swanson on the piano!"

  • "Our party of 5, two couples and a daughter, were made to feel so welcome on the lanai with comfortable seating on couches and comfy chairs around a large low table, overlooking ocean, pool and palm trees! The signature drinks were the best, I had a Gusto that looked as good as it tasted...sunset colors in a beautifully shaped glass. Lots of small plates, including a $5 naan and ahi dip, started us off. My fish of the day with veggies was perfect. The hamburger was Huge and the Short Rib tempura was a hit. Limited menu, small plates, but we were all satisfied and happy! My teenage daughter said "We should do this once a month" and I agree! Oh, the occasion was early Mothers Day (my husband was going to be away) and a wedding dinner gift."

  • "I made reservations for 2:30 but we arrived about twenty minutes earlier and the waitress allowed us in earlier anyway, so that was a plus. The setting is absolutely beautiful and fun to take pictures. Service was timely and we were treated very nicely. Can't wait to go again!"

  • "Did research for location to have afternoon tea. Checked Waikiki locations, but Kahala Hotel was the most affordable. Yes, that's correct they were affordable. The location and service was excellent. When they first brought out the food, I thought I'm not going to be full. Towards the end, I was full. Recommend the Bangkok tea. Didn't like the macaroons, they should instead put a cookie. Will return in the future."

  • "Really enjoyed Sunday night jazz at the Veranda - Joshua Kaye trio was great, as always. Very pretty room and the onion soup was very good."

  • "The music was awesome! The best part of the restaurant. The food was good- not amazing. A VERY small menu. Steak, chicken, fish, spaghetti or a burger. Small sushi menu. Only a few appetizers and desserts available. Our waitress was awesome, wish I remembered her name so I could give her a shout out. Personally I wouldn't go here again for the food, however, drinks and ambiance absolutely."

  • "My wife and I really enjoyed spending Valentine at the Veranda. The menu was small, food was very good, and the waitress was very pleasant. We really enjoyed the live music. I would recommend the Veranda for a casual evening or just drinks."

  • "Porcelain need to be renewed and tea food was quiet disappointing out of proportion to a reputation of hotel and overpriced."

  • "Kelly, the manager was the only one that was ever nice to us. We go there to see "David", the singer. We always gave the wait staff the benefit of doubt that they might have had a "bad day." However, after 6 times, we call it quits. Kelly saved our New Years when our waitress went on break and took over. We love David, but it's not enough to put up with the expensive lousy food and service."

  • "No veggie options! Only spaghetti marinara, which is not something I expect to eat when we're am eating out. However the live music was great and made up for it."

  • "Been here once before and loved it again. Can't wait to come back! Scones are to die for and desserts are decadent..."

  • "Perfect place to bring your mom to a proper afternoon tea with a Hawaiian twist. The hotel has Dolphins and the practice their routines with the trainers around tea time - it's wonderful afternoon entertainment while enjoying tea."

  • "Great spot for tea! We had a wonderful view of the dolphins, ocean and pool views. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Can't wait to go back. It's like entering a new world. Peaceful and romantic...."

  • "We arrived at the Kahala too late for dinner so went to the bar for a drink out first night in Hawaii. The music by David at the piano was so enjoyable we chose the Veranda for dinner the next night because the menu looked good and we wanted to hear the music again. The cocktails (Jamaican My-tai and Pimm & Proper) were addicting, and the food and service excellent. The music, mostly classic standards with a little Michael Jackson thrown in, was superb. The kitchen is the same as Hoku next door and the food is well prepared and delicious. This is a casual relaxing alternative to the pricier restaurants at the Kahala."

  • "The Kahala is a beautiful hotel and Sunday and Monday night jazz at the Veranda is a treat. They have an assortment of very nice small dishes at fairly reasonable prices and a good selection of wines by the glass. I had a sushi and sashimi plate, which was fresh and delicious, and my husband had the short rib tempura and potatoes, which he enjoyed as well. The jazz was outstanding. We will be back often."

  • "We had reservations for afternoon tea. We walked to The Veranda and there was hostess to greet us. We stood around confused for a while before deciding to walk into the lanai and then was seated by a waitress. She was polite enough but I find the service and attention lacking. We ordered the afternoon tea for two and had to flag down the waitress when to have our teapot refilled. We have traveled the world and eaten at many equally well renowned hotels and resorts. I'm sad to say that the level of service goes not befit the hotel's 5 star status. I would rather eat at the Halekulani or Moana Surfrider. On a positive, note, the food was tasty and the view was beautiful from the deck. We did get to see the dolphins perform."

  • "We went on a Sunday night to hear Rocky Brown and friends. The venue was perfect. Open feel, with choice to sit in the enclosed area near the band or out on the outdoor lanai. Menu selection limited but perfect for the casual setting. Great mango drink. Music was amazing! And I learned that every Sunday they have jazz. and on other nights as well."

  • "I was disappointed we did not have a table outside, I made reservations but they did not ask where I wanted a table. The outside seating is so nice! With great view and ambiance. We did get moved but we did all the work. They did not consider that we had 3 people not two, I had to keep asking for items like a plate & silverware, hot water, jam and cream, and this was tea!. I live in the area and am not a tourist so I do enjoy taking friends and family to tea. Im not sure I will again. This is a 4-5 star resort!"

  • "we attended the high tea for a joint birthday outting. the food was delicious and the hotel was beautiful. it was fun to lounge on a couch. we were surprised at the end to get a birthday treat, it was special. the servers were friendly however it would have been nice to be checked on more. we wanted to order more drinks but it took so long between each visit. we appreciated that we didn't feel rushed to leave but it was annoying when as had to get up to pay"

  • "I was looking forward to a relaxing, casual time and was not disappointed at the Veranda. We especially enjoyed the smooth jazz music by Wendell Au, Adj Larioza and Mike Grande."
    Dined on 6/3/2013
  • "Service was a little slow for having only 3 tables, one with 4, another with 6 and our pair. I had to ask for menus and then wave down the wait staff so we could place our order. My tip was way too generous for the service we received which was my error. I would have given the standard 15%. Hence, the tip I left is not a reflection of the service but an error in my calculation. However, I love the hotel, it's location and have been to the other 2 restaurants and will continue to patronize the place."

  • "We went for tea but there was no one to greet us, so we just sat on a table and waited. Finally a young lady showed up. She helped a table with guest then finally came to us. The place itself was very nice."
