  • "The Taylor and Cook features great locally-sourced food and always has interesting seasonal specials. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable about everything from the menu to the wine list, and the bartender knows his cocktails. "

  • "Every time I've had dinner at the Tailor & the Cook, the menu has been different. And every time, my meal has been delicious and interesting -- I get to try new things that I never knew existed! I recommend it to anyone who wants a tasty meal in an attractive setting with excellent service and doesn't mind paying just a little more for the pleasure."

  • "Received a gift certificate at Christmas and have never been there. The food was very good with a better than expected portion size. Excellent selection of local beer and wines. I would not say that it is a kid friendly place only because having two myself I know how picky of eaters they can be. If I had one complaint I would say the prices were a little high but not the highest I have ever paid. Still overall for a special occasion its an excellent choice."

  • "Overall, an enjoyable experience. Good food & even better service. at no fault of the restaurant, it was very difficult to find, as out-of-towners (even with GPS). Ultimately parked blocks away. we were running late for our reservation as a result & the lack of someone actually answering the phone was a source of stress and disappointment."

  • "I heard a lot about the place so we jumped at the opportunity to go. Without question the quality of the food is good! They had some very unique tastes and good surprises for what they put together. So the food they cook is good and likely different than other places in the area. I felt the price of the food vs. the quality and quantity is higher than it should be. its not drastically over the top and for my meal it may have been due to the rise in beef prices. Also the tables were too close together for my comfort level. I could have stretched my arm out and easily touched the people on the tables next to me. So you can tell people feel uncomfortable when they sit down next to you. "

  • "My wife and I dined here on a Thursday evening, (4/17/14), and were very impressed. From the house made bread and seasoned butter to the fresh desert it was an excellent dining experience. We shared a pierogi appetizer which was delicious on a bed of carmelized onions. My wife enjoyed the ribs which were perfectly cooked and seasoned while I had the paella which contained freshly smoked seafood lending the dish a fantastic taste and aroma. The fresh ingredients and the wine are local NYS products, the coffee is roasted next door. Our adept waitress, Sarah, was extremely enthusiastic about the food being served and knew the entire menu and wine list in great depth. We will definitely be back the next time we pass through Utica. "

  • " This was an amazingly unforgettable experience. I was looking for a place to take my wife for an epicurean delight, just to say I love you....The Tailor & The Cook fulfilled and surpassed my expectations! I would say that this is hands down the best restaurant in CNY for local delights. I have never heard a bad review of this establishment and all I can do is extol further praise for the best dining experience in a 50 mile radious!!! Thanks for such an awesome night, Kyle Graves"

  • "The Tailor and the Cook is a great place to go when you want to try something unique. They cook with different spices and herbs and pair things that I would never imagine would go together so harmoniously. I love that everything is fresh and local and that the staff is very knowledgeable about the dishes that they are serving. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate and my husband and I love dining here for special occasions. I recommend making a visit at different times of the year to experience the different seasonal menus. • "We were spending the night in Utica on our way elsewhere and checked Yelp for local eateries and found this one just down the street. What a fantastic find! My son and I had a delightful dinner served by an attentive and friendly staff. If you are anywhere close, this is a definite detour locale."

  • "We had a fabulous experience at The Cook and The Tailor. The food is all fresh, well chosen and mostly locally produced. There is a blackboard in the back that lists the sources. I was intrigued to eat fava beans which I know are not in season yet. Our waitress went to the cook and gave me the website where they buy organic dried vegetables. The service was outstanding, the staff works as a team. We enjoyed everything on our plate..scallops, pork cheeks, lamb, paella and dessert. The food is not straight up boring so those that enjoy an Outback Steakhouse will not understand or appreciate the care that goes into every dish. If I lived closer I would come every week because the menu has many choices and we had a hard time picking."

  • "My wife and I arrived a few minutes early, we were waited upon immediately at the bar and our table was ready promptly. The server was courteous, knowledgeable and also unobtrusive during our meal. We both had excellent meals, everything was fresh and prepared to order. It was our second time here and we will definitely be going back again!"

  • "This is our favorite place for dinner when we are in the Utica area. The food is always top-notch, with the wait staff knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The source of the menu foods is posted on a board near the kitchen - a great nod to local farms."

  • "As is usual Tim and Melissa and their staff welcomed us like we were family, and really surprised us with a menu that had sting ray as an entree special, and it was absolutely amazing! We just came off a vacation on a cruise ship a week before our dinner at the Taylor and the Cook, and we felt like we were back on the cruise ship.....Thank you! Doug & Kathy"

  • "Our server was very well educated on the menu and where the food was locally purchased. Really was the best meal I've had in a long time. I recommend anyone to try this spot and you won't be disappointed."

  • "I love this place. It's quirky menu and farm to table fresh ingredients is unique for the area. I think it rivals trendy cities and should be experienced even if you have to drive a little out of your way. We were given tiny samples of the chef's new ideas and were sewn into his charm. I'd try anything the chef liked to dream up and the next time I'm even close to the area, I'll be back."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and the restaurant was amazing in accomodating my request to have a candle put on his dessert. Also, from the moment we walked in the hostess and waitstaff all wished him a happy birthday. The great service aside, the wine list was extensive and the food was amazing. We had the flat iron steak with foie gras butter and the duck ragout. For dessert we went with the eclair. If we are ever up in Utica again we will be sure to stop by."

  • "The food is beautifully presented and delicious. I loved that many of the items on the menu were sources from regional farms and bakeries. The service was excellent, attentive without vein intrusive and well versed on the menu. The only minor negative is that due to the restaurant being small the tables are a bit cramped for space."

  • "Excellent from start to finish. Locally sourced organic food prepared in world class fashion. My wife and I were 20 days into a Whole 30 program. When we made our server aware, she new exactly what we needed and tailored (no pun intended) our meals to meet the criteria. They could not have been more accommodating. It was delicious! Can't wait to go back."

  • "We have been to Tailor and the Cook several times over the last few years, and the first bite of every meal evokes the same response..."this is amazing." I have tried things I never NEVER thought I would eat because I know and trust that thee chefs could make SPAM taste amazing. Seriously, I ate Venison Tartare and could have licked the plate. But its a little fancy for plate-licking, so didn't."

  • "Been to this restaurant several times before and each time had an exceptional dining experience, great food, great service ... but this time was disappointing, primarily for the entrée. Interesting menu but in comparison to the past, mediocre in choices. We opted for the Filet and Delmonico steaks. The appetizers were very good, sides very good, the desert exceptional but the entrée ... Filet was very overcooked (almost inedible), Delmonico was very undercooked. The server recognized the shortcomings immediately and offered replacements. We did not accept. We are hoping this culinary snafu is an isolated incident, merely a bad night for the chef because we really enjoy the restaurant. But if the food continues not to be good well ..."

  • "The uniqueness of this restaurant is worth the visit. Locally grown/raised food is a huge bonus. The food quality was outstanding as well as the knowledge of the food the staff had. This really isn't a restaurant I would bring a kid to unless they are used to fine dining food."

  • "Outstanding real food with an emphasis on local suppliers. Great atttention to detail, great service. Soups, apps, and entrees are very unique and prepared in suprising ways. Best veggies and greens around. It's a bit too dark in there and not enough vegetarian dishes to choose from, but otherwise a fantastic spot that hopefully will be around a good long time."

  • "I discovered this restaurant after hearing about their participation in a local indoor farmer's market. After reviewing their menu online I discovered I wanted to try it. What a gem. The food was surprising in this area - different, tasty, experimental. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and the wine extensive. What a great experience."
