Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant provided our family with the best dining experience of our ten day vacation. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, with tasteful live music and a resident painter creating a masterpiece right before your eyes. The dining room is an actual art gallery, and seats only about 20 people. The menu is eclectic, and includes five vegan entrees in addition to the traditional meat and seafood options. Our vegan family tried four of the five vegan entrees, and each one was simply amazing. We also enjoyed a delicious chocolate cheesecake for dessert. (vegan, but no one would ever guess!) The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. Overall, one of the best dining experiences we have had anywhere, even before becoming vegan."

  • "Fresh, colorful, varietal dishes in an intimate setting. Great vegetarian/vegan options - the jambalaya is our favorite. Attentive & friendly staff. We drive over an hour just to eat here for date night!"

  • "We have been going to Hilton Head for 30 years and thought we knew all the truly great places. We were wrong, we were very wrong. The Studio was absolutely awesome. Incredible food, great service, live entertainment, works of art - just unique and wonderful. The steak I had was possibly the best I have ever tasted. All the entre's were exceptional and the Crab and Vidalia soup was to die for. We will be returning. A new one on our top 10."

  • "One of the best meals we had on the island during our recent visit. Food was overall excellent and certainly unique. The tuna appetizer was the highlight of my meal, extremely flavorful and well presented. The only imperfection was the temperature of the grilled meats, I ordered medium-rare and instead found them to be medium-well. None the less, excellent flavors."

  • "This very special boutique restaurant has great food and service. It was very quiet and relaxing. It would be great for a intimate special occasion or romantic meal."

  • "This is a small restaurant that boasts an eclectic menu. Even when you think you know what you are ordering, the chef's take on it will still pleasantly surprise you. Lunonia (your Hostess) personally greets all diners. Her art hangs on the walls and she loves to talk about it. Our waitress, Amanda, was knowledgeable and friendly. I am not a vegetarian, but the menu boasts a good selection of these dishes. I am always tempted to go vegetarian for the day. I highly recommend The Studio."

  • "one of our favorites on the island. A great place for a special occasion or just and evening of fine dining. The atmosphere is quiet and very comfortable with the owner's paintings on the wall and low light. Service is excellent with both the waitress and owner giving lots of attention to your dining needs and delivery of your order. The menu very exquisit with the "chefs tasting" menu a great value. The food is prepared to order and presented beautifully. All in all, a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommended."

  • "As usual, the food was great. Owners and wait staff treat you as family. Had the scallops and they were delicious. My wide had tuna and it was great too. The Vidallia Crab soup is the best appetizer we've had on the island. Will be back on our next visit to HHI."

  • "Great meal and service. They did not have the wine I ordered and did not knock the price down on the bottle I got which was $2.00 more. Not very considerate. Since it was our 58th anniversary, they did present us with a glass of sparkling wine before dinner, nice touch. Not sure we will return since there are so many excellent restaurants in the area."

  • "This is possibly one of the most impressive decor's I have ever experience. The owners taste in fine décor is amazing. Even the water glasses and the plates are originals. The owners is an artist and her work adorns the walls. The chef (and also owner) uses only the freshest of ingredients. Farm fresh vegetables, smooth and luxurious sauces. Their fish is the available catches of the day and their lamb and beef is aged to perfection. Above all don't miss the blueberry crumb cake a l a mode!"

  • "I recently visited Hilton Head for vacation. There are many fine restaurants and they are hard to find because most of them are tucked back off the main roads. I found this gem though opentable.com and decided to try it out based the favorable reviews. The food and service were excellent. There was live soft music playing in the background and the musician came over to ask if we had any special requests. It is small intimate place. In fact we started talking with our table neighbors and they said they come to Hilton Head every year during the same week and eat at this restaurant. It wasn't very busy so I hope people continue to discover and patronize it. I highly recommend it!! Best meal of the week."

  • "Each time we visit the studio we can count on outstanding service, fantastic food and artful presentation. Once again the grouper was spot on, the filet cooked to perfection and the escargot was presented well. We visit The Studio every time we are on island. Cozy, intimate and worth every cent. Keep up the great work Paul and Lunonia...we champion the Studio every chance we get."

  • "From the moment we walked in, until the moment we left we received top notch service. We had the hummus with grilled shrimp which was incredible for an appetizer. For dinner we had the palette which consisted of filet, grouper topped with crab and lamb chops. Everything was cooked to perfection and outstanding. Others at my table had the paella, which looked like art work, tuna steak and rib eye. For dessert we had the bannana bread pudding. Everything tasted phenomenal and my group of 6 loved everything they were served. Alex the waiter was outstanding! His recommendations and service was the best I've seen in a long time. We can't wait to return to Hilton Head and Studio!"

  • "The Studio is always a unique dining experience. Fabulous food, live entertainment and a lovely dining space make for a perfect evening. Yummy crab and onion bisque, salad and filet offered as a trio for $36. My husband had the lamb and loved it. We'll be back!"

  • "Excellent and creative food in an artistic and creative atmosphere. Superb service by the artist/co-owner who introduced the art and the dinner menu in a warm and friendly manner. The rack of lamb was superb and the palette provided a sampling of the excellent filet mignonette, lamb and black grouper - all with wonderful sauces. An unexpected artistic treasure in a strip mall setting."

  • "An outstanding meal with out of the ordinary ingredients and combinations. Foodies will love this restaurant. Great wine. Wonderful dessert martinis. Delicious desserts. But pricy, so plan accordingly. Nice live music on weekends. We'll be back!"

  • "The crab soup had a microwave crust on it The grouper was ok but dry not enough sauce. Veggie broccoli was over cooked. Service felt condescending and rushed.not at all what we expected from the ads "

  • "Our last night on Hilton Head proved to be the most entertaining, courtesy of a rather lively & friendly crowd of Atlanta ladies celebrating a couple of 50th birthdays. The restaurant staff coped well whilst ensuring everyone else was happy. The musician had an adoring audience as a result, & it was only a matter of time before the dancing started. Fortunately by that time we had consumed an excellent dinner with lovely wine (the tasting menu & wine pairing is to be highly commended) & a rendition of Michael Jackson's Billy Jean brought the Atlanta ladies to their feet who then encouraged participation from all, with the end outcome being everyone dancing!! Magic fun, great food with the staff coping extremely well with their lively guests!"

  • "Restaurant is a hidden gem on Hilton Head. It does not advertise, is hidden away and such a nice change from the hectic, noisy pace of most restaruants on the island."

  • "All the drawings are painted by the chef's wife.....great paintings. And the chef prepared amazing tasting dishes. The studio salad and the crab vidallia soup perfect. The grouper was prepared to perfection. The bread pudding not perfect needed more Carmel sauce less running. The dining experience was very nice. The waiter was so good. Great experience"

  • "Wonderful meal after a nasty day at the Heritage! Quiet setting, amazing service, excellent food and great wines! What more do you want? The waiter had perfect service, kept us laughing, and was spot-on with recommendations. The owner/artist was very friendly and incredibly talented. She created very sexy and tasteful paintings in vibrant colors--a sharp contrast to the dark, rich wood grains and colors of the restaurant. Absolutely one to check out if you are in the area!"

  • "What we love most about this restaurant besides the food being artistic and extremely good, is the soft quiet music. It does not prevent you from having a conversation, you can listen or not. It is small and quaint. A great place for something special or a casual Friday night drink and appetizer."

  • "Innovative food with good wine selections. Tasting menu offered many good options. Some of the food was under seasoned for my taste e.g. the escargot. Art on the walls added to the funky atmosphere. Overall a very pleasant dinning experience."

  • "My husband and I love The Studio! The menu is unique and creative, presentation is fabulous, and the food is always delicious. Lunonia is a wonderful hostess who always takes time to greet each guest personally while her husband, Chef Paul, works his magic in the kitchen. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with Lunonia's paintings on display and Armand Demille's music on weekends. We have recommended The Studio to many friends and they all have had a great experience there!"

  • "My wife had the scallops...I had the filet...and we just commenting to each other throughout the meal how great everything tasted. Even the salads and bread had us talking about what we just put in our mouths. I am not one for words...especially while I am eating, but this place had me talking about the food. We will be back many more times."

  • "Based on reviews, this place looked like it would be pretty good. It was so bad that we still laugh about it. When you walk in, it looks like you're stepping back in time, and not in a good way. The touted artwork is overrated and adds to the terrible appearance. There was a guy singing in the corner, and we had to bite our tongues because he sounded straight out of some 80s hotel lounge. There was a group of about a dozen 70-yr-olds that called themselves a "wine club." Translation: they were embarrassingly drunk and obnoxious in such a small space. All of this might be ok if the food were great. It wasn't close. The menu was boring, my steak was overcooked, and it took forever. Oh yea, and we paid a lot of money for all of this."

  • "We were pleasantly impressed with the varied options available on the menu at The Studio, with both yummy dishes for carnivores as well as plenty of vegetarian options! It is sometimes difficult to find a nice restaurant that offers excellent selections of both types! It's not cheap, but the high quality fresh ingredients used in the kitchen to make wonderful appetizers, salads, soups & entrees make dining at The Studio worth every penny. Though we did not have room to try any desserts, the offerings were many (and very tempting!) and I'm sure would have been equally pleasing. Interesting pleasant surroundings with a chance to admire some local art was a nice bonus. We will certainly be back; highly recommended!!"

  • "This is a charming restaurant with a charming and knowledgeable waitstaff. The food is fabulous and innovative. For a memorable evening that you will want to revisit, Studio is a must. I don't know when we've had a better time, and we go out a lot."

  • "When we arrived, the restaurant was VERY small...at least the front dining area was. There was no hostess to greet us, just the bartender who I assume took on that role since the bar was at the dining entrance. An older guy which also sat near the small entrance was painting a picture (very nice) and the "stage" (very small) was empty. After a few minutes of viewing the menu, the bartender came over and told us to feel free to take a walk around and view the art work throughout the 'studio'. There were a few paintings (VERY OLD SCHOOL) hanging on the wall in a cold back dining area that reminded me of someone's grandmother's living room. TOTALLY NOT THRILLED...with the ambience or the food. We did like the one-man-band though!"
