Diner Reviews
  • "I have dined at The Spinnaker many times for both lunch and dinner. The food is consistently good and the service beyond professional. I've seen groups from about 10-15 there. Well behaved kids are welcome.. .no toddlers running around. The location is fabulous--ferries, sail boats, seabirds and seals."

  • "I booked this restaurant for lunch asking for a window table with a view. We were seated immediately. Food was delicious. Our waiter was patient in answering her questions about the crab. She had a Crab Louie and I had the Halibut Saute with havarti cheese. Halibut was cooked to perfection and served with perfectly hot steamed vegetables and rice. Both meals were beautifully presented with the ever outstanding San Fransico sour dough bread. The Spinnaker did not disappoint for this very special reunion. It was busy but we were never made to feel rushed. My East Coast cousin was very impressed. Using "OPEN TABLE" was most helpful and made this an easy choice for me to meet my cousin in Sausalito."

  • "This is a classic, no frills, very good seafood restaurant. There is nothing particularly creative about the dishes, but everything is extremely competent and fresh. Never had anything bad...always delicious! And the scenery is outstanding! Very sizable lobster tail served to perfection! Love it!"

  • "A visit to the Spinnaker is worth it for the views alone, but it's great in other ways as well. Had lunch (swordfish special; chicken with champagne, lemon, and capers), which were well prepared and nicely presented. Service was excellent. DO make a reservation, though; every table was taken and there were people waiting."

  • "The Spinnaker is by far one of if not the best restaurants in Marin and I'm not just saying that because I got married there three years ago. The food is absolutely delicious, the views breathtaking from any table and service is always outstanding!! Cannot recommend the Spinnaker more for a special occasion or just a romantic dinner."

  • "We recently hosted a welcome dinner at Spinnaker for a visiting Catholic bishop and we thought we had a "heavenly dining experience" -- from the sweeping panoramic view to the superb food and friendly service Spinnaker provided. We would definitely return and would highly recommend it to our local and visiting friends."

  • "An excellent location right on the water. The food was good as always. The service was fine. Valet parking is required"

  • "One of our favorite places to bring out-of-town guests and for special occasions with friends and family. This is the first time we were a little disappointed.......specifically with the service staff. It seems that there's a new crew on board, and our server in particular was very difficult to understand; he seemed nervous and we had to repeat ourselves or had him repeat himself So we were somewhat disappointed at the quality of service; but the food was definitely up to par."

  • "This was a lovely place to have lunch. The scenic view was to die for. The host went out of his way to make sure that we had a scenic view. We had a reservation, but he insisted that we wait a while for a table with a view to open up. We had drinks at the bar during our wait. We were so glad that we were given such great service here. We were celebrating our 6th Wedding Anniversary."

  • "Beautiful location by the water and a wonderful view from any table! Food was excellent as was the service. With our reservation through Open Table, we got seated immediately (there was a line of people w/o reservations). I was very pleased with the experience and would definitely dine there again."

  • "We appreciated the service provided by Open Table. We arrived at The Spinnaker during a very busy Saturday lunch period and the Maitre d' had our reservation and it only took a few moments before our table was ready. The service was very good as was the food. We enjoyed the great view as did our out-of-town guest. Thank you!"

  • "My family (three adults) ate here on a recent visit to Sausalito. We have eaten here before. As always, the food was delicious, the service excellent and the view of San Francisco is beautiful. I would highly recommend it."

  • "Probably the best view of the bay and the City there is. Reservations were honored immediately. Our server (Sue) was very friendly and helpful. We just love the preparing of the Caesar at the table. Sea food is the best. Everything was perfect for a great birthday dinner."

  • "My cousin and I live two hours apart, and The Spinnaker in Sausalito is a great halfway point to meet. We manage to get together for lunch every couple of months. Each and every time we dine at The Spinnaker we have a great meal! The food is delectable and the service is excellent. We've become known there by now, and are greeted warmly. It is definitely the spot to go for quality food, great service, ambiance and, of course, every table has a fantastic view of San Francisco across the water!"

  • "Except for my grandmothers', theirs was the best bread pudding ever...called "bread pudding cake," because it's served as a wedge with a small center of custard and Jack Daniels Whiskey sauce poured over the hefty slice. As for the rest, service was excellent, the view was on three sides of the dining room so you could not miss a fabulous SF skyline and Bay view from wherever you sat. We went for a weekday lunch with a reservation and there was a good crowd, but we were given a seat by the window as I called a day ahead. The seafood we had -- scallops and petrale sole, was decently prepared with adequate sides of vegetables and pilaf, garlic mashed or fries. Moderate price. Easy valet parking. Come for the view and the pudding!"

Went with her recommendation and found to be true. Scenic view sets the mood to be relaxing. Thank you. Next time in town will go c u again."

  • "Both food and service were good but restaurant needs renovation. The carpet and furniture are old. The tables are too close together that you can hear conversation from next table. Overall, it's a nice place to go if you like scenery and special occasion."

  • "Seems everywhere I go . . . someone is talking about dining at The Spinnaker! It is a gorgeous property . . . right on the water . . . with lots of parking, friendly people, outstanding food and service! What is not to like about this restaurant!? It is always a huge treat dining there. Their petrale is killer good! Thanks to the entire staff for always making us feel at home and for allowing us to take our time to enjoy. See you soon!"

  • "Dining at the Spinnaker has been a family tradition for over 40 years. It is a beautiful restaurant, all glass, with an unmatched scenic view of San Francisco and the Bay. The fresh fish is always delicious, the desserts delightful, and the cocktails expertly made. This is the restaurant that we use for special occasions and for entertaining visitors from far away places. Love it."

  • "A favourite lunchtime spot, specializing in seafood - of course! - which is consistently good. Great view of the Golden Gate, Tiburon & Angel Island. Even when the bridge is covered in fog, Sausalito is usually sunny. Every table has a view of the sailboats, ferries, canoes ... Great for tourists to see how beautiful this part of Caifornia is, and to enjoy great food while doing so."

  • "You just can't beat the ambiance here, floating on the water and looking at beautiful San Francisco and the the Sausalito waterfront. Indeed, the day we went, the City was shrouded in fog and it was still beautiful. Great place to take folks from out of town. The food is not great, but it is fine and the time passed there is magical none-the-less."

  • "This is a special location for us to meet, one party from Sonoma County and the other from San Jose, to celebrate another birthday. It was a lovely day and we were seated with an awesome view of San Francisco. Valet parking is another reason we go to Spinnaker's since one of the party members has difficulty walking. My crabcakes were deliciously filled with crab. We meet here frequently each year."

  • "I would avoid this spot; it is surviving on its reputation of past days. Seated 30-40 minutes past our reservation time, angel hair pasta with seafood was basically boiled noodles and blanched seafood - absolutely no flavor. They need to take some of the overpriced revenues and update the decor to a decade more recent than the 1970s. Not worth the trip."

  • "On arrival on time for our table at 8pm we were met by a surly grey haired lady who told us they were trying to get the 7.30s out and we could wait at the bar and have a drink!! No apology!! This we duly did. After a 40 minute wait I got fed up and approached the lady and the maître de. Yes, your name is down for a table. We eventually were seated forty five minutes after we arrived. We regard it as bad manners the way we were treated and not even the offer of a menu when we waiting at the bar as she breezed by us and ignored us. When we were seated there wasn't even an approach from her or the maître de to apologise for our wait. The check arrived, no apology from either of them and I HAD to ask for the check to be looked at. Overrated."

  • "The gentleman at valet parking was very polite and helpful. We were seated almost immediately for an early lunch, right at the window facing into a beautiful view of the bay and the city. Our water glasses were filled and a nice fellow came by to greet us and drop off the menus. Then dropped a comment as he was leaving that our waiter would be with us ..... if he ever made it into work....which apparently he did about 10 minutes later ;) The calamari fritti was shared and declared pretty good by all. We all thought our lunches, ranging from salads to pasta and sandwiches were good, not great. But, on a beautiful day in Sausalito you cannot beat the view from The Spinnaker and that makes up for most shortcomings."

  • "The decor was antiquated, as were the majority of patrons. This place is in a phenomenal location, but not much has changed since it's heyday in the early 80's... patrons included. The waitress was argumentative with me about my mango allergy. In her defense, she's probably used to people dropping dead in her section."

  • "My folks had been going here since 1972. So wanted to give my father a nice Father's Day with one of fond memories. It was very busy and staff seemed a bit distracted. Nnormal I felt the service lacked a bit in it's usual care and personal attention. I have to say this is not the norm. The view was to die for, with languid sail boats heading out to the bay, brave swimmers making laps, seabirds gliding past, all in the foreground with the city in clear view across the sparkling water. The food delicious. A day to remember in deed."

  • "Great location, great views, great scene. Thank goodness because the food was average and the place is very touristy. Had the clam chowder to start and was treated with a "Sunkist" label mixed in with all the rest of the soup. They took it off the bill (we didn't request it) but it still showed a lack of attention to detail. We were there for brunch and were less than enthusiastic. We'll probably go again because we love the view but we sure won't be going for the food."
