Diner Reviews
  • "We followed the advice of the waitress and ordered the specials: a bisque soup for appetizer and stuffed flounder for entrée. Both were excellent, well balanced, and nicely served. A small serving (amuse-bouche) of sorbet came between the two courses. The wine list is quite impressive, with a wide selection of whites and reds at very reasonable prices. We chose a Vouvray, which was an excellent complement to the menu. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the noise level is low to moderate, and the wait staff is friendly and helpful."

  • "This restaurant continues to uphold its well earned reputation of being among the elite in Hampton Roads."

  • "Seafare was even better than last time. The service was thoughtful, attentive, and prompt. This may not be Le Yaka or Provence, but it's very good and the food is consistent."

  • "We selected Seafare while visiting Wiliamsburg because of their effective advertising and good reviews, but we were very disappointed in everything. We don't understand the good reviews we read. We shared a salad that was mostly lettuce, dry, and flat tasting. I ordered fish that was so rubbery I had to send it back. I settled for a crab meat cocktail which was "old" and bland. The baked potato was awful. The only topping availalble was sour cream. It was very dry and tasteless. I also saw other customers struggling to even cut through their baked potato - which I also experienced. In short, nothing we were served was worth the price. The place is also not attractive outside or inside. We will never return, and we can't recommend."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience, Herbert was our waiter and he was perfect. We enjoyed it so much we wish it wasn't a 3 hour drive from where we live. We are looking forward to our next visit to Williamsburg just to dine here again."

  • "Cruise-ship theme, service is just as good. They've been in business over thirty years, food has always been great. Crabcakes and fried shrimp is the best!"

  • "This is a very nice restaurant. I had the Crabmeat Bisque soup and the Crab Meat and Flounder Sauton. The food was very good. Will visit again."

  • "The overall restaurant appearance is very nice; good lighting, clean with table linens. The waitstaff are in tuxedos which is also a nice touch. We ordered the french onion soup and lobster bisque to start and were both tasty. For a main course, we chose Salmon with dill sauce and Sea Bass. The salmon (my choice) was good but nothing noteworthy, however, the sea bass (my wife) was full of fish bones. The waitress advised her that the chef was to remove them before serving so we sent it back for bone removal. Upon return, more bones so the whole dish was returned for fried flounder. The one issue I had was that nothing was taken off the bill and no manager spoke with us about why we returned the item. Not sure we will return."

  • "We always eat at the Seafarer when we take our mini-vacations in Williamsburg. It is a pleasure we do not miss. The food is wonderful, service is great, and the ambience is spectacular. I highly recommend dinning at this restaurant."

  • "Always love to bring out-of-town guests for a memorable seafood dining experience, reminiscent of old-world, upper class style combined with genuine personal attention."

  • "The location of The Seafare of Williamsburg on Richmond Road has led us locals to assume it is for tourists. However, following a recommendation from friends, we gave it a try and were pleasantly surprised. Our seafood was fresh and simply prepared, not unique or exceptional, but a very satisfactory meal. Service was excellent. Kerry-Ann in particular was as professional and polished as the best servers in Williamsburg or elsewhere. The wine selection was adequate with a range of pricing. Even though there were other guests in the room, our table seemed quiet and private. A very nice atmosphere, will definitely go again!"

  • "Food was well prepared. Horrible service. A gentleman named Eric served us. Plopped menus on the table and walked off, poured the soup so quickly it splashed on my slacks. He even seemed irritated when my wife asked a question about a side. Motif looked like the hotel from The Shining. Topped off by empty beer cans in the planters out front. Overall, tacky and trashy. Definitely disappointed."

  • "Our birthday dinner was great at Seafare. The dinner was delicious, and the wine and dessert were even better. The server Eric is terrific and funny. They all treated the birthday boy (83 yrs old) like a king. Couldn't ask for more."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary of 44 years at the Seafare. It was wonderful. The service, food, and atmosphere was superb. Whenever we visit Williamsburg, Seafare will be our favorite place to dine."

  • "We have been coming to this restaurant for many years on our visits to Williamsburg. The food preparation has always been, and still is, outstanding. Our server, Eric, is worth the trip. Old school professional waiter - the best. Be sure to request coffee. It could be the show of the night!"

  • "Seafood was pretty good. Oysters and crab, were, properly prepared and fresh. I'm still amazed by the inability to keep handicapped walkways and parking lots slush, snow, and ice free when there is less than an inch of snow. All they need to do is spread salt or it's equivalent liberally after shoveling. Adding sand would have been useful. It was treacherous for the elderly members of our group (guests of honor), and we had been assured they had handicapped access and they were clear of snow and ice. I can understand why most of the city shut down at the first flake, but it is so easy to salt and sand (therefore making it safe and passable), it also protects your clients and keeps the lawyers away. I would not go back."

  • "After weekend shopping at the nearby outlets, we booked this for Sunday for late lunch at about 2pm and were delighted. The place is a classic! Tablecloths with cloth napkins, logo matches and a young man in a Tux at the entrance! We had a delightful waitress named Tina who was attentive but not overbearing. They also had a male waiter who poured coffee from at least 5 feel above the table- very cool and old school. We had great seafood-pan fried soft-shelled crabs and a seafood casserole. We also were offered a free desert for making an open table reservation- we had tableside prepared bananas-foster with fire and all--again, what a classic. This was a classic old-school nice place!!!"

  • "My son (9) and I made an impromptu reservation when my wife and daughter opted out of dinner after a long day in Williamsburg. The hosts and waitstaff smiled as we came in...as this did not appear to be a place kids came often. However, they had several seafood and a steak option on the kids menu. My son can eat an adult portion, so I ordered him the Tournedos of steak with crab meat. He loved the steak and crab, but the bernaise sauce was not his thing (my fault for not asking for it on the side). I got the seafood sauton (ceramic pot prepared). The seafood cooks in its own juices, and the flavors tend to blend, which in my opinion is not the best way to commingle your sea fare. Decor was outdated, but still had charm. Service was good."

  • "Entering the Seafare of Williamsburg, reminded me of the movie,"The Wizard of Oz," when Dorthy opened the front door of her house to enter Oz. The interior of the Seafare is tastefully decorated, but bordering on ostentatious; however, the seafood was very taseful. The service was what I call a "GoldiLocks" experience, i.e., service that was just right. A surprise, which many restaurants no longer offer, was the small dish of sherbet to cleanse your palate served before the entree."

  • "My wife and I were looking for a nice dining place to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary and we remembered that we visited Seafare about 4 years ago on a weekend getaway. The food was great, especially the Escargot. Out waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and wines. She even took a picture of us at my wife's request. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful time at Seafare. The food was superb and the ambience very nice. Our server was Eric who was so attentive I thought he was family. When he found out that we were eating out because it was our 40th wedding anniversary, he quietly arranged a delicious strawberry cake for us, that was accompanied by singing from the staff. So nice. A bit of sherbet between courses added to the gourmet atmosphere. This was our second time at Seafare and we will surely return."

  • "in a town where we have several "tourist trap restaurants" Seafare is the exception - it is a wonderful restaurant with excellent food and equally excellent service - the prices are good for what you get - you do not feel like you've overpaid, etc. Recommend highly!!"

  • "Everything was perfect from the greeter, server and food. Could not have been better. They care about their reputation and customers to make sure that they are very well satisfied. We have eaten there many times and always ate the same items, but this time we tried something new and it was delicious."

  • "We couldn't have been more pleased with this restaurant. So much so in fact that it will be as much a reason to return to Williamsburg as any of the historical sites. We were greeted warmly upon arrival, wait service was superb, food was delicious, and atmosphere was lovely & cozy."
