Diner Reviews
  • "Outside of venue smelled fishy...should've been a clue! Welcomed with rum bread...odd choice as it is more like a dessert bread. Appetizer was delish. New England clam was gross, like hot milk with pepper. Salad tasted old. Steak was great but seafood platter was disgusting, we actually sent it back.... Rubber lobster uncooked shrimp fishy cod fillet and scallops and sour oysters. The owner was kind enough to take it off our bill and offer free dessert. Hopefully, he is looking for a new chef... You shouldn't have the name "seafare" if all the seafood items are disgusting."

  • "The seafood selection and preparation was a '10.' The food was worth the extra price compared to a buffet."

  • "Way too expensive for food that was ok at best. Highly recommend skipping this place for another just based on price alone."

  • "The seafood was delicious. The service was fine with exception of head waiter pouring coffee way above heads like a bath shower. Sprinkles of hot coffee hit all patrons at table. He thought his trick was cool but the trick should be left at talent show. Seafood was fresh and properly cooked. My friend's steak was very tender. Will go again but probably not order coffee. Thank you!"

  • "This restaurant was the perfect one for my husband and I for our anniversary. Great atmosphere, great food, and great service. I highly recommend it."

  • "A great find. The service and food was very good. Pricing was not cheap but worth it and not overpriced. The next time we are in the Williamsburg area we will return."

  • "I guess it is something everyone should experience when visiting Colonial Williamsburg but really nothing special when it comes to food."

  • "We had a special anniversary dinner with kids & grandchildren. It was quite busy, but our waiter managed to keep the dinner flowing once the cocktails & kid cocktails arrived. All of our dinner selections were wonderful. We were surprised with a delicious strawberry short cake desert in celebration of our special day by the Seafare. A fine experience!"

  • "Simple put --- Phenomenal! Absolutely outstanding food, service, and value. Crab cakes to die for. Crab and shrimp salad - incredible! All the breads, sherbert, and the free stuff - OUTSTANDING! we were here on vacation. I would make a day trip out of going back to this restaurant. It was and is that good. They knew we booked through open table and gave us a free desert of our choice. When has that happened to you last?????? Can't wait to go back."

  • "We went there on our last night in Williamsburg with my family. There were multiple problems with the service due, we believe, to either a waiter being new or maybe moved from busboy to waiter as he forgot many things however he was nice: (no salad for one of the dinners that included one). We had to ask other waiters for horseradish, butter, etc. He didn't know his food items as he mixed up the two kinds of fish for two people and we had to reorder, then they ran out of the replacement dish and ordered a third meal. It was a 2 1/2 hour dinner by the time we left; however, the manager and one of the waiters who prepared the flaming desserts came to the rescue. Management ended up giving us dessert & coffee and credited us one meal."

  • "The décor was fine with a nautical theme. Service was a bit sketchy and the waitress brought me an extra drink that I didn't order. Food was average -- not bad but nothing special. The environment was quiet but that was most likely because we dined at 5:30PM."

  • "Early in the evening, the place was almost empty. Cordial greeting at the door, attentive service at our talble and very good food."

  • "We were very pleases with our choice of Seafare for the evening. We had out-of-town guests and wanted to take them some place special. We made the right choice. The food was fabulous, and our guests enjoyed the whole experience. We shall return."

  • "Very good seafood. A little pricey but the portions were large. "

  • "The Seafare of Williamsburg is a nice restaurant with friendly staff. We had quite a long wait for food, though. I ordered the red snapper with crab, which was delicious and perfectly cooked. My husband ordered halibut but was served cod that had been overcooked. "

  • "Front of house greeted us promptly. Tables nicely spaced. Overall ambiance was good. Food was prepared exceptionally well. Service was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Good wine list from very affordable to wines for special events. "

  • "Chose this restaurant based on reviews, and was looking for good seafood. Service was good, but selection and portion size was a little disappointing."

  • "While traveling from Florida to New England, we decided to stop in Williamsburg. Our hotel staff recommended Seafare of Williamsburg. I always check out to see if the restaurant is a member of Open Table. Yes it was. I will tell you everything was really well prepared and ample portions. We each shared the calamari dish, which was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crispiness while maintaining a tender texture. We each enjoyed the Caesar salad followed by fresh flounder. Each course had a delivery of warm, home made bread. With friendly and attentive service by all the staff, it is worth a stop if nearby. I would go back in a heartbeat."

  • "This is a very nice and established restaurant in Williamsburg. One gets the impression of being in the dining room of an old steamliner. We had a large group with 3 small kids. It's probably a little too formal for kids that young (my son is 10 months), but they have high chairs and booster seats. It is pricey, but nice place to go once or twice a year."

  • "I had the best crab cakes I have ever eaten. the very best"

  • "While the menu boasts 91 items, those we chose were each bland. The salad was fresh and chilled, but again, almost tasteless as were the fish and the vegetables. "

  • "We enjoyed the service and the food. The staff was very attentive and made the meal very enjoyable. The food was delicious and we ended the evening with flaming deserts. "

  • "The Seafare starts you off with a small piece of yeast bread that was soooo flavorful. Menu choices are very good, and preparations are varied; it would be hard NOT to find at least a couple selections that call your name! The lobster bisque was wonderful; subtle sherry flavor and good size pieces of lobster. A nice citrus sorbet followed to clear the palette. The Sauton preparation of my seafood allowed for the flavors of the seafood to come through and kept them moist. My friend's casserole was more of a seafood saute. I think we had a new waitress who was just learning her role in helping diners have a completely satisfying experience. We had to ask her for beverages. She never brought the ice tea. Nice place, great food."

  • "OpenTable provides another great recommendation. We stopped in on a Wednesday night. Our server Tina was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and preparations. My red snapper was done to perfection and my wife's salmon was excellent. Tina knew we had reserved through OpenTable and made sure we were well taken care of. If you are looking for a nice restaurant with a traditional feel that serves an excellent meal in a friendly environment, this is the place to choose. A Williamsburg gem!"

  • "We were in Williamsburg, VA for Easter and wanted a nice dinner out. I was unfamiliar with any restaurants in the area, so I chose this from the Open Table options in town. The food was great, the service terrific. I had crab cakes that were among the best I have ever had, and my teens both had the filet and raved about it. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a special dining experience in Williamsburg."

  • "Seafare is our "go to place" for seafood in Williamsburg. Very attentive wait staff, clean and attractive rooms and the seafood is always very good. Only down side is that some guests, that are obvious visitors to the area, don't realize that it is a moderately upscale restaurant. You might encounter children and/or slightly inappropriate dress but it's not a big issue and we do have to realize that we do I live in a tourist area. "

  • "The food was horrible and tasteless. This restaurant is extremely overpriced. "

  • "we visited this restaurant while on vacation in Williamsburg. It was recommended by the hotel we stayed in. When we arrived, they sat us at a table but after we sat, they moved us to a booth. After moving, we waited almost 15 minutes without even placing a drink order. When we got up to leave, noone said anything to us. I waited up front and when I informed the hostess of the problem, she stated the waitress was on her way when we were leaving and only offered us another waitress.... did not even apologize... "

  • "We stopped at the Seafare during our latest trip to the Burg and was not disappointed. It was not our first time. While there the power went out and we were left in semi-darkness. My youngest child had ordered the kids' steak. As I cut it into pieces our waiter stood holding a flashlight above his plate. I was astounded that he would do that for us for what armed like many minutes. His attentiveness to us was admirable. Oh yeah, their fried seafood platter is the best I've had in a long while. Their crab cakes are 80%+ crab, with light breading. We make it a point to eat there whenever we are in town. If you're traveling through Williamsburg definitely stop by if you're in the mood for good seafood!"

  • "We followed the advice of the waitress and ordered the specials: a bisque soup for appetizer and stuffed flounder for entrée. Both were excellent, well balanced, and nicely served. A small serving (amuse-bouche) of sorbet came between the two courses. The wine list is quite impressive, with a wide selection of whites and reds at very reasonable prices. We chose a Vouvray, which was an excellent complement to the menu. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the noise level is low to moderate, and the wait staff is friendly and helpful."

  • "Seafare was even better than last time. The service was thoughtful, attentive, and prompt. This may not be Le Yaka or Provence, but it's very good and the food is consistent."

  • "We selected Seafare while visiting Wiliamsburg because of their effective advertising and good reviews, but we were very disappointed in everything. We don't understand the good reviews we read. We shared a salad that was mostly lettuce, dry, and flat tasting. I ordered fish that was so rubbery I had to send it back. I settled for a crab meat cocktail which was "old" and bland. The baked potato was awful. The only topping availalble was sour cream. It was very dry and tasteless. I also saw other customers struggling to even cut through their baked potato - which I also experienced. In short, nothing we were served was worth the price. The place is also not attractive outside or inside. We will never return, and we can't recommend."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience, Herbert was our waiter and he was perfect. We enjoyed it so much we wish it wasn't a 3 hour drive from where we live. We are looking forward to our next visit to Williamsburg just to dine here again."
