Private Party Facilities: A wine room adjacent the main dining room serves as the the private dining and party space for The Rieger. Seating up to 40 people comfortably, a separate patio space connects adding an additional 12 outdoor seats. 2 long, 16 ft hardwood tables made of salvaged cypress give this room character. Each table seats up to 18, and an additional table for 6 is available.

"We had a reservation for 8:30 and did not get our food until after 10:00pm. Waited 30 minutes to be seated. Eventually, one of our party of 6 went to check on our food to see what was going on. Others around us who came in after us were getting their dinners and we were not. Also, 3 entrees we tried to order were sold out. Food was excellent when it did arrive. Wine was excellent. Staff was friendly. We will go again and hope for better service."

"First time with the new menu. It was fantastic. My husband started with the broccoli soup which he said was creamy. I had the gnocchi and it was very light and fluffy. We both had the cauliflower entree which is baked in a ramekin and has the consistency of a bread pudding and soufflé. I am not a fan of the white veggie but I loved this! It was served with some greens and potatoes. I was too stuffed for dessert. But I'm saving room for next time. Don't forget to order some cocktails."

"Hard to experience the historic hotel ambience ....so very crowded and loud. This could have been in any of a dozen bldg down town. Mango our waiter was good and attentive. Were four of us..... Swordfish very good, Chick fricassie good,KC strip a bit chewy,Rabbit strong taste and breading was mushy,drinks very good, coffee excellent. Two reasons I would choose to spend $80.00/pp somewhere else... 1.) Way to loud to enjoy friends conversation. 2.) Only two out four of our dinners was acceptable,that's not good enough to risk asking other friends to go."

"The Gnocchi is the most amazing study in flavor and texture contrasts. The Cauliflower-Parmesan Sformato was amazing. The texture of the cauliflower was perfectly balanced against the savory flavor of the parmesan. The service was attentive and friendly but not intrusive."

"We had a party of four, two of whom are vegetarians, one gluten free and one a steak and potato kind of person. We all had fantastic choices, beautifully prepared and the server was skillful at advising us even with our eclectic tastes."

"The food was overcooked and a bit disappointing. We tried the pork checkbone. Not at all what the waiter described. And it took our food forever to get to the table. We ordered salad and app and that was a wait too. And the two occasions we've been there in the last two weeks, we've been starting at a bad corner spot where we were mostly in the way of the waiting service."

"We love this place! We are foodies, and this is HANDS DOWN the best steak in KC. I love trying all the new dishes on the menu. The flavors are phenomenal! Drinks and staff are spot on too. No complaints whatsoever. Highly recommend trying something in every course.....absolutely love their creative drinks, the rabbit liver salad is something I crave often, their pork soup is amazing, all the way to their desserts and coffee nightcap - It's just a beautiful experience."

"The restaurant had just changed their menu with some very creative items. The selections are overall ones you will not see at your "typical" restaurant. The service is superb. They do not rush you and make the dining experience very relaxed and enjoyable. Took my significant other for an early Valentine's Day special meal."

"The menu was interesting, and I'm sure I would have liked everything on it. If you like a cozy atmosphere and don't mind being surrounded by people, this place is great. If you want a huge table and private dining experience, maybe it's not the right place for you. It was intimate, even though you may be sitting close to your neighbors. Dress up or dress down. The service was excellent, and we felt very comfortable there."

"Husband & I went for dinner for VDay. Our service was EXCELLENT. Ther server was extremely knowledgable on both the dinner and drink menu as well as very friendly. Food was impeccable, drinks were divine. Definitely going back to sample the rest of the menu."

"We thought the food was very good, but the value was low for the price. Nothing we had was "lets go back for this" great. We did love our pre-dinner drinks downstairs at Manifesto thoroughly though. One note, the espresso mouse with the doughnuts was awesome!"

"We were there for the second night of the new seasonal menu and it was fantastic. At first glance neither my wife or I saw any dishes that stood out! but after our waitress gave us a description of the dishes our enthusiasm went up! and once we actually tasted what Howard Hanna prepared we were very impressed, one of the best meals we have ever had in KC. I had the rabbit and my wife had the new chicken dish, which includes a liver mousse encased in crispy chicken skin that is one of the richest, most amazing things I have ever eaten. Five stars, we dine at the Rieger about once a quarter, but may be back next week based on how good our meal was this week."

"The whole experience was awesome, took my dad and brother here who were in from out of town and they enjoyed it immensely. The food is par excellence, we got the Hare, Trout and Chicken. All amazing. Butternut squash / ravioli and bone marrow were great dishes too. Service was fantastic, Mango knows what he's doing. Be sure to make reservations for the infamous Manifesto downstairs afterwards!"

"Dinner at the Rieger was excellent. We are vegetarians and had the scotch egg; it was well prepared and very creative in its use of ingredients. The best part was the excellent service we received from the moment we entered to when we left. I recommend this restaurant to anyone. If price is an issue, then it would be best for special occasions. One of the tables next to us ate and then went to Manifesto, so I assume several people were doing that. It's just a welcoming, very well run restaurant with excellent food."

"We could not have asked for better service from our waiter to the manager to the runners to everyone! Service does make a difference AND the food was amazing! We told our waiter that we had tickets to see Alton Brown at the Midland and he and the team did a great job getting our food to us but not making us feel rushed. We wished we could have stayed at the restaurant longer to enjoy dessert but maybe for our waistlines, it's better that we didn't. We each got a cocktail and then one glass of wine for dinner. My husband got a cabernet sauvignon, I got a cab blend and our daughter got a shiraz. They were all really, really good!! We told our friends at our Superbowl party last night and we are making plans to be back very soon!"

"This is my second time eating here and I have yet to be disappointed. The potato leek soup was just outstanding (and far better than what I had at 801 Chophouse, sorry!). The braised bacon over creamy polenta and perfectly cooked brussels sprouts - I was in food heaven. The only thing I did not like was that the place was so smoky. There is not a lot of room in there and I wish some windows could have been opened to air the place out. I left smelling like smoke and I had to wash everything I was wearing. Still, I'd go back because the food is just so good."

"My husband and I met at the Rieger for a late lunch on a Friday during KC Restaurant Week. The food was delish, the server was personable and professional (his rec to share the caramel apple funnel cake was right on), and the atmosphere was relaxed and hip. I've already recommended it to 2 other people ... we'll be back!"

"Not worth the hype. Dinner was so-so. The restaurant was virtually empty and a colleague and me were seated at the smallest table in the restaurant. Our dinner plates only fit the table after we helped our server rearrange our place settings by removing the bread plates and killing our cocktails as two cocktail glasses and two water glasses would not fit. There are so many incredible restaurants in KC. This is not one of them."

"I last dined at the Rieger in the summer. Had a wonderful meal. This dinner with two friends was outstanding. We had the cod, the pork shank and the duck cassoulet as entrees. Additionally had the celery root remoulade, the sausage ravioli and tendon salad for appetizers. For dessert we had the Jamaican pudding and the sticky toffee pudding. Everything was presented well, the flavors were original. Each dish was well thought through and delicious. The addition of Tony as manager is a delight for me as I have known him since his days at La Fou Frog. He always brings sparkle, wit and wonder to a restaurant."

"I know this place has amazing reviews by most. I feel it's just not for us. We went for date night and it was far from romantic. It seemed to be a cramped as could be and extremely noisy. The place is not big so everyone is almost on top of each other. I had the rabbit which was good but not amazing. It reminded me of homemade stew. My boyfriend got the steak and it was ok. Pretty basic. The pumpkin au gratin were the best thing we had and the chocolate Bavarian dessert was very good. Despite the fact they were very busy, the server took great care of us. He is the reason for the 3 stars. I wouldn't say the food was bad, just not super impressive. I doubt we will rush back."

"It is official, I have a new favorite restaurant in KC. I have eaten virtually everywhere, Downtown, midtown, OP, Plaza, Lea-hood and this is the best food I have had. The salad, crepes and duck were all amazing. Our waitress made some good wine recommendations. I only have two minor food suggestions for Chef-- one is he could actually scale down the portion of the duck dish. The beans fill you up fast! Number two is add more creeps to that app -- or do a $7 option and a $12 option for a few more. When I envision crepes I think of the neoclassical savory French crepe, not what you had. Yours was a pleasant surprise - I hate creps but my girlfriend wanted them and that was probably my favorite dish! I'm on a Reiger high and will be - Joe D"

"food was wonderful. the only feedback is that the server seemed rushed or not thoroughly into our table. I know that at times waiting on older people, we were with my 60 year old parents, is irritating but it would be better if servers did not show it so easily. the bussers were pleasant, on a few times forgetting to refil my water. forgot an appetizer we ordered, but not billed fo it. so that is part of the -1."

"Went for dinner on our anniversary because of the great reviews we had seen, but we were a little disappointed. The restaurant was very loud, service was rushed, and food was good but not great. Our table for two was barely wide enough for a dinner plate and bread plate. The waiter seemed annoyed that we wanted to finish our cocktails before ordering our meal - both times that he asked. We will likely give it another try, but probably not for a while."

"Time has somehow preserved much of the character of this early twentieth-century structure, which has been updated with a modern bar and kitchen from which you can now order up a choice of unique and innovative dishes, as well as clasics like the KC strip. The steak I ordered was prepared perfectly, and the service was friendly and attentive yet unobtrusive. The wine pairings are excellent, and don't forget dessert."

"This was my first expirence at this restaurant and I was not disappointed. It was pretty quite in the restaurant due to the snow storm but that didn't stop the chefs. I had the whole trout and it was wonderful; it was cooked just right. They made the brussels sprouts and spaghetti squash taste amazing. I wasn't such a fan of the butter salad.. it had a lot of salty bacon on it at the bottom but was very fresh and good quality. Overall, very good and I will be back."

"This menu is just too out-there. I'm in the food business and my wife is very knowledgable about food but we had not heard of many items on the menu. That's NOT a problem, but once served, the appetizer (something on a slice of apple) was bland, and the buttermilk dressing on my salad did not deliver nor did the greens. The Cod entree was quite good and saved the evening. This was not a bad meal, but neither was it memorable for any reason other than a lesson in esoteric food, and a "show-off menu" that did not excite our respective palates."

"The service was the best I have seen in a long time. The trout and steak were absolutely delicious and could not have been better. It was an energetic and fun evening. I would not recommend the cod special, however, but I would recommend the risotto and pork appetizer. I would go back just for those."

"It's been awhile, but the Rieger never disappoints. Consistently delicious and a great place to try out new things. Had my first trip this week -- loved it! Took my bosses -- a first time for both and one is a real foodie -- and they both loved it. Hopefully won't be as long before returning! Looking forward to seeing what Chef Hanna does with Ca Va, his new sparkling wine bar in Westport, opening soon. Thanks, Reiger staff, front and back of house, for another wonderful meal."
