A word from The Prime Rib
Gargantuan cuts of prime beef, extra thick chops, and simply prepared fresh seafood are the straightforward offerings of this steakhouse that evokes the supper clubs of Manhattan in the 1940's. Leopard print carpeting, black lacquered walls trimmed in brass and tuxedoed waiters complete the elegant atmosphere, featuring live piano and bass nightly. Dress code is business casual.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is woefully overrated and overpriced....very disappointing. The food was good but service was uninspired. The server was aloof and disinterested. He even spilled gravy on my wife and his apology seemed insincere."

  • "We normally dine at the Prime Rib in Baltimore but since returning to the Philadelphia area, we have been at the Philadelphia Prime Rib on several occasions. Although you have changed your dress policy, it was nice to see that people still got "dressed up". There is nothing wrong with a suit/jacket and tie. However, there was one person there in a "hoody". What was he thinking. My Dover Sole was absolutely delicious. Food and service excellent!"

  • "we have been to many of the surrounding restaurants near the avenue of the arts, but the prime rib, for us is by far the best. We started with the lobster bisque which was creamy and delicious. Next were a half dozen of well packed, flavorful clams casino. make sure to scrape the bottom of the plate they are served on for the well browned overflow of deliciousness. My wife had the veal porterhouse done Oscar style. We still can't believe how much crab this bountiful steak was covered in. The veal was tender and flavorful. I had the king cut of prime rib. All I can say is WOW! Set in front of me was what seemed like half a steer of the best prime rib I have ever had out. So good we went back for dessert after the play."

  • "The Prime Rib was the perfect location to enjoy a special night out. Everything was outstanding! The Late Night Lounge in the Leopard Room with The All-Star Jazz Trio was the best! We had a fantastic time! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "From the moment we got to the Prime Rib to the minute we walked out we had the best time and meal ever! Our server Mariglen Rrapaj was more like family then our waiter. He was so attentive, knowledgable, warm and friendly, we can't think of a better place to dine in Philadelphia! Thanks again Mariglen!!!"

  • "Like the best famous steakhouses of yesterday, terrific steaks and oysters, impeccable service, and a traditional yet not dusty ambiance. Just what we were looking for as we enjoyed the 32 oz signature rib that was perfectly prepared and politely delivered."

  • "The Prime Rib is an exceptional restaurant. The food was superb and the atmosphere was excellent. My husband and I travel quite a bit and look forward to dining at The Prime Rib in the near future."

  • "In my opinion, this restaurant is seriously over rated on this website. It is not the best steakhouse in the city, and definitely not in the Rittenhouse area. The food was fine. The service was adequate, if slightly overbearing. The menu, boring. The ambiance was circa 1980s. Maybe I would have known what to expect had I done more research and realized that the restaurant is in a hotel. Going out for a nice dinner with spouse before symphony and being seated next to vacationers returning from a day in Old City was not what I had in mind. And being greeted at the table by the server with the announcement that "all bottles of wine are 25% off" was a bit off-putting. Maybe it's just me. I'll be more careful to check other reviews next time."

  • "Garth, Lynn and Gilberto are always amazing!! Thank you for making both of us feel like family whenever we drop by! We both work so much that when we can finally take a night out for just the two of us it is a special occasion. The crew at the Prime always, always make us feel special. Greatly appreciated!"

  • "I read a lot of reviews before choosing this restaurant and have to disagree with a lot of the negatives I read. The waiter and wait staff never rushed us. In fact our waiter told us to sit back, listen to the piano and enjoy the evening. The food was out of this world. I have never had a steak so tender and so delicious. I also thought the piano player was a nice touch. He played Happy Birthday for anyone who was there celebrating a birthday. Some people claim that there are a lot of "older" people who stare at you constantly if you are young. I did not find this to be the case. We are in our mid-30's and no one looked at us funny or gave us any attitude. As far as dress code goes I was in a suit and my wife in a dress."

  • "My wife and I took a leap of faith and ate at The Prime Rib for it 10 year wedding anniversary. Everything about the dining experience made us glad we went there. The ambiance was fabulous: tasty jazz bass and piano, professional yet friendly wait staff (Ian was great), and great food and wine. The best part was that everyone else was celebrating a special day- 50th wedding anniversary, 60th birthday, engagement... It was very special to be around so many happy diners."

  • "We have been here about half a dozen times over the last two years and we have never been disappointed. The service is great, the food is amazing, and the ambiance is the best in Philadelphia. I can't recommend this place strongly enough."

  • "As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted. The service was excellent. The environment was amazing. Im going to make it a new favorite of mine. I have already told others to dine there. My date and I felt welcomed. Our waiter Jim was great! He even kept us entertained. I loved sitting near by the pianist. I will be visiting The Prime Rib again!! Thank you to all the staff there."

  • "Let me begin by saying I go to Prime Rib about 10 times a year personally and about 3 times professionally. Usually they are consistent with great food and service. On this Sunday evening when I took guests it was only fair and it was not crowded. Four of us ordered the Prime Rib, and it was not up to the usual great standard. The meat was fatty and grizzly. The other person ordered filet oacar and said she has had better. Our server was not all that attentive and despite a 23 percent tip never came back to say thank you. I will give them another chance given the track record but not for a while."

  • "I love this place! It reminds me of the 40-50s supper club. The service is professional and our server graciously handled our special requests (pacing the meal slowly, adding a dish to the fixed price menu-at ala carte price). The fixed price menu is a bargin and the 12 oz of prime rib is more that enough for me. The meat was cooked perfectly medium rare as ordered. I always feel that I am treated like a star."

  • "This is a gorgeous place, in an old-school, opulent, clubby sort of way. Appealing ambience and the people who work there pleasant and professional. It is pricey-but of course it is-it's Rittenhouse Square, the Warwick, and a well-heeled clientele for the most part. Didn't keep out the riff-raff however-a noisy, vulgar, unappealing group of jerks ruined the last part of the evening with their drunken behavior. The meal is traditional-pretty heavy but well prepared. My Prime Rib was tasty, though a bit chewy-I've had more tender, flavorful prime rib in my life.Great salad-Buzz's...and a light, well made Creme Brulee. Recommended for a nice night out-especially when the late night live Jazz Trio is playing-they are excellent."

  • "This restaurant is old-world in the best way. It doesn't feel tired or dated. It's elegant, respectful, and polite. The prices are very fair for the level of quality. Tables are comfortable, the food is excellent, the service is professional and friendly. I almost went to a more trendy steakhouse, but I'm glad I didn't. It would have been good food, but it would have been noisy and harried. We need more restaurants like The Prime Rib."

  • "The entrees were disappointing. My Strip and her Filet had no taste. The sides, however, were great: sauteed spinach, bisque, salad, and desserts--pecan pie and brulee-- were quite good."

  • "The one birthday gift that I really wanted was a romantic night out with my sweetie. We had a late night dinner at The Prime Rib and it gave exactly what I wanted. Charming atmosphere and decor, great service, beautiful live entertainment and most of all good food. I had the 8oz fillet mignon with au gratin potatoes. The only minuscule issue, for me, was that I asked for medium well and received a well done fillet. When I return I know to order medium rare to get that full flavor of my fillet. The service was outstanding. From the hostess to my server everyone treated us very well. If you are looking a romantic night out in the city, then I would most certainly recommend The Prime Rib. P.S...the key lime pie was excellent as well."

  • "Great food served up by a terrific waiter, Felipe...he was helpful with the wine recommendation and very concerned about our feelings about the food but didn't "cross the line" in asking us every five minutes...he afforded us privacy while doing a great job!"

  • "This was one of the best meals I have ever had. Even the house salad was notable and totally delicious. Our waiter was extremely friendly and very on top of things. There was hardly any wait time between courses, but we never felt rushed. The restaurant was quiet and comfortable. It was on the expensive side so I would keep that in mind. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "We love this restaurant especially since we can bring the whole family and bring the wine on Sundays! Our family can go through 4 or 5 bottles at dinner so this policy avoids us having to choose between leaving the kids at home or not having wine with dinner. We have celebrated special occassions here because of this fantastic policy. Food is excellent and the ambiance is nice. The big cut of prime rib is a carnivore's dream. Too big for me, I stick with the regular but my son's did it justice. Love the piano."

  • "food and ambiance was similar but the service baltimore blows philly away.instead of cary grant greeting you, bobby darin serving you drinks and montalban and poitier waiting on you ,you get katy perry, sarah jessica parker, jimmy fallon and justin bieber.not bad if that's what you like, but not what i think they are going for here.had to ask for crumbs to be cleared before entree was served."

  • "The food and ambience were excellent. I was having a business meeting with two other men and the noise level was a little high. They have a very nice piano player, however, it is a little loud causing everyone to talk louder to be heard over the piano. Other than that, the service, food, and intimacy of the room was excellent."
