Diner Reviews
  • "Fish was fresh, but very dry. (4 of us had the fish and it was the sme for all of us.) The sause that came with it was good, but face you only 1/2 teaspoon worth...needed much more for the dry fish. View was spectacular, service was good."

  • "I will we could go back tonight, the view and food and service all worth it."

  • "Very nice place with the air of country club service. 25th anniversary, not a place for being treated like it was. Do not pay attention to customer open table comments. Food was good, service lackluster. Birds flying around inside, cute at first then annoying when they are on your table. Had to throw my ball of bread out onto the ground to get a break from them. Overall, a good experience. A gorgeous view and worthwhile."

  • "We have eaten brunch here many times so decided to try dinner. Food was excellent not large portions but usually not a places like this. Beautiful view of the pacific and all of Kapalua while eating"

  • "Throw your budget out the window at least once when you're on Maui and enjoy the Plantation House. The dishes are inventive and beautifully prepared. Parties of 2 can get tables at the window for an amazing sunset view over neighboring island Lanai. Wonderful experience."

  • "Our waitress was a bit ditzy which diluted out an otherwise fine dining evening. Food was good but service spotty. This is unusual for this Restaurant."

  • "My wife and I ordered chicken - both were the epitome of " rubber chicken". It needed steak knives to cut through it and it was difficult to chew. I cannot ever remember having a worse chicken in a restaurant. Our guest's entrees were ok."

  • "Enjoyed a great evening watching the sun set over the Pacific (bring sunglasses if you request a window seat) and enjoying a nicely paced dinner. The menu has a variety of options to satisfy varying tastes. This was the second time we visited and will return again."

  • "We ate here during a week long stay on Maui and this was my favorite breakfast. It rained while we were there, which created a beautiful rainbow over the golf course and mountains. The bananas foster pancakes were amazing and my husband loved his eggs Benedict. Would highly recommend!"

  • "The best way to start a day! Have been staying in Kapalua for years, and always eat breakfast here on our first, last and middle day of vacation. The view and fresh air can't be beat. You know you're on vacation. Love the Eggs Benedict with two scoops rice, and the Paniolo Breakfast. The service was really good, very friendly."

  • "We had been told about The Plantation House by multiple parties. Only when we arrived and saw the grounds and the restaurant did we realize why it was such a gem. The ocean views and surrounding area was spectacular! The food was equally as amazing, with a great range of choices. Our son had a great time finding the geckos climbing the walls and ceiling around us, too!"

  • "This restaurant has a beautiful setting with grand doors that open onto a terrace overlooking a golf course above the bay. The staff was attentive, personable and professional. The food was quite good, but not outstanding. The promise of fresh ingredients was met although their use was not especially creative. For a pricey neighborhood and relatively expensive venue, we were hoping for a more inspired menu. I would also advise that the food was a little too salty."

  • "All around a great dining experience. Peaceful, delicious great music. A little expensive."

  • "The food is outstanding, the view is perhaps one of the best, and it is one of the most romantic restaurants in Maui. Great place to watch the sun set."

  • "Great setting. But food disappointing I had eaten there about 6 or 7. years ago and had a wonderful dinner, but not this time."

  • "This was our second time eating at Plantation House and this time we brought our kids. There was a nice kid menu and the views are incredible. The food was great and the service was excellent. Also a great time to visit as for a Saturday night the restaurant was really quiet which made it more enjoyable."

  • "Great food excellent service (especially for dinner) in a spectacular setting. For Hawaii the food prices were very reasonable for food of this quality. Excellent for both casual breakfast and lunch dining and even better for dinner fine dining. Does not have the boisterous atmosphere of a golf course restaurant so it provides a much more relaxing and enjoyable ambience. Some earlier reviewers complained about quality of service but we found it consistently attentive without being obtrusive. The Plantation House quickly became our favorite restaurant in West Maui. Bravo!"

  • "The Plantation House has always been a part of our visit while staying in Kapalua. Unfortunately, something has changed. The food was uninspired and plain. Calamari appetizer was frozen sticks- really? Also the service was abrupt. Not what you expect at all when paying top dollar. "

  • "The fish tacos were awful---little bits if charred fish bits. Calamari was tasty."

  • "Arrived with a bottle of wine expecting to pay a corkage fee. The manager looked at the wine, checked the wine list and, because the wine was on the list, refused to open the wine. 45 minutes after arriving at our table, our order had not been taken. When we complained to both the waiter and manager they seemed indifferent. The food was good, but not good enough to tolerate poor service."

  • "The food, the venue, and the ambiance were fantastic! We will definitely return."

  • "The restaurant staff was very friendly and informative. The food was delicious. The view of the Plantation Golf Course, the ocean, and Molokai were spectacular. We were seated immediately with our reservation at a very nice table. We all had fish that was excellent."

  • "Purchased by the California group that also owns Pineapple Grill, it is becoming more similar to Pineaplle Grill-- in a good way. Recommend adding to your dining destinations when driving. "

  • "Too pricey! Food was ok. The view and ambience are the best ever and that is what you are paying for "

  • "The service was very Hawaii friendly. The view was spectacular and we saw a great sunset. One of us had a great meal but I would caution anyone away from ordering the chicken unless you like chicken jerky. For an island where everything is so moist and lush I am amazed the chicken came out like a lava rock. Unfortunately our waitor never asked how our dinner was so I could not pass my comments on to the chef(s) so that the next person would have to eat a plate of veges only. I am not one to usually complain but it was disappointing. "

  • "This place has an amazing view of Maui. However it is extremely warm so dress lightly if you go before sunset. There is no AC and only 1 ceiling fan, but otherwise it is so worth the view. The food is good- we are from SF Bay Area so tough food critics."
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "The view is absolutely spectacular. The food is great and the wine list food for the menu items. The staff was very knowledgeable of all items on the menu and of the wine list. "

  • "We have dined at the Plantation Restaurant several times in the past when visiting Maui. Always good food and a great view, especially at sunset. This time however surpassed all previous visits. We ordered the 5 course prix fixed chef's sampling dinner, a new addition to the menu. Each dish incorporates local ingredients, was nicely presented, and offered a terrific medley of tastes. Our server, Linda, did a fine job providing a bit of background on each course, which very much added to our enjoyment of the experience. Overall a great evening. "

  • "The view is outstanding, the food was good but not that great for the price. My cocktail was just ok, nothing special. Employee in the golf shop was very rude and acted like he was doing us a favor when we asked about the golf, that really just sort of killed it. Won't go back. Restaurant was not that busy either. Obviously other people must have felt the same about it as we. "

  • "Stunning setting, great atmosphere. Staff very good and measured. I had the Kampachi tartare as a starter - it was a delight. Nice breads. The mongchong fish dish was full of flavours and had great consistency. The wine list has got a good spread. "

  • "Outstanding in all aspects. The view at sunset spectacular, food delicious and our waiter Aki paid attention to our every need. Going back soon."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed another meal here at a table overlooking the golf course. Appetizers of Kula Beets and ahi sashimi were great. The catch of the day was mahi-mahi, which my spouse had with a macadamia nut preparation and a lobster-brandy sauce; she loved the fish but not the sauce so she was glad that the sauce was on the side and not on the fish directly. I had monchong with a crab and caviar topping and it was delicious. Our waiter was helpful with a wine selection."

  • "Unbelievable view. Recommend you book for sunset, it was amazing. Food is very good but also very expensive. Dress is a bit more upscale than many other places in Maui. Merriman's is very similar, also with a great view but right on the beach. The Plantation House is up on the Hillside with a larger view of the coast and Molokai. This is not casual dining and the clientele were a bit more the country club set, but don't let that discourage you it's worth dressing up a tiny bit more than usual."

  • "My last visit to Plantation. We arrived for our reservation (myself and a couple of locals) and couldn't even get eye-contact out of the hostess. A runner eventually walked by and asked if had been helped. Things didn't improve from there. Our waitress took our drink order and then collected menus - I suggested perhaps we ought to place our food orders, as well. 20 minutes later my friend had to get up and walk around the mostly-empty dining room to find someone who could report on the fate of our Bloody Marys. "Have you seen our waitress?" she asked a busboy. "I don't know. What does she look like?" Our food, having spent time under the heat lamps, arrived before the drinks. The can still make a Bloody and poach an egg but service counts."

  • "Really nice, quiet, remote country club setting...cocktails and wine selections were very nice! Our meals were all exceptional! Couldn't ask for more..."
