Diner Reviews
  • "The Plantation House Restaurant was an excellent place for a romantic dinner overlooking the Kapalua Golf Course. The menu had tons of specials and the waiter was very knowledgeable about all of the food and the wine selections. There is an extensive bar and wine list to choose from. This is the perfect spot for a romantic evening out with tables that sit on a balcony overlooking the course and the water with a prefect view of the sunset. The food was delicious and well prepared. The only let down was dessert. The menu has several options but nothing truly special or remarkable. For those looking for a romantic restaurant you will not go wrong here."

  • "We had dinner here 7 years ago for our daughter's 21st birthday. The Plantation House Restaurant was outstanding then so we decided to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary there. Our daughter knew we had reservations here and called ahead of time to have a dozen red roses delivered to our table. She also treated us to anything we would like to enjoy that evening. We enjoyed the Cakebread Wine Cellars wine pairing. Overall the restaurant is Outstanding. The most beautiful sunsets are here. The service and food is outstanding. We had the perfect table with the most beautiful sunset in the world. Thank you for making our celebration so very special."

  • "We loved the view from our table. It was truly a million dollar view. However, I felt the food did not match the beautiful atmosphere and view. I had the duck, and was disappointed. It did not seem fresh, but rather something warmed up in the microwave. My wife enjoyed her fish. And the appetizers were very good. The service was so so. It took forever for the server to take the check. It sat on the table for a good 20 to 25 minutes on the table with my credit card."

  • "Food very good but not outstanding. We arrived at 6:45 and missed the opportunity to sit near the windows or middle of restaurant. We were sat next to the rear bus station. The staff was attentive but not outstanding. We were checked in with occasionally despite having everyone stop next to our table on every action they took. Most disappointing we got to over hear all of the complaining from the staff and management and negative interaction among the staff. We felt we were not only in the kitchen (not in a positive chef tasting way) but out by the dumpsters listening to the employees find a place to whine."

  • "The plantation House was a real treat. We had never been there before: the setting was amazing, the service was spot on and the food was outstanding! We started with the Hamachi Tartar which was melt in our mouth delicious. We picked out a bottle of wine and based on our choice the server recommended the Stags Leap Chard instead, which paired with all the food deliciously. We both had local caught fish, my wife had Uku (Gray Snapper) and I had Monchong both cooked perfectly. Special thanks to the Chef de Cuisine, Mike Burman for the Fantastic meal."

  • "What a wonderful lunch we had at the Plantation House, with its awesome views, as we reminisced about earlier times in Kapalua,! The ambience, service & food were all wonderful. The fresh fish filet was one of our favorites on our whole visit to Maui."

  • "We dined here several years ago and loved it. We were concerned that this time it would not match our expectations. We were not disappointed this time, either. The combination of the wide variety on the menu, high-quality food, its presentation, the wonderful authentic decor, courteous and relaxed professionalism of the staff, the premium view to the ocean and the open-air calm breezes all come together for an almost magical experience. Pricey, but you have to expect that such a premium experience on such a beautiful island would come at a cost. We'll be here during our next trip to the islands!"

  • "We LOVe this place for breakfast and lunch. The good is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. The view of the golf course is OUTSTANDING. All the walls/windows open up and birds are flying through all the time. It's a great way to start the day in Maui. The food is very good and similarly priced to Gazebo, but with more reasonable portions. We've never been here for dinner, so I can't comment on that meal. Make sure to bring a camera to take pictures."

  • "Been to this place several times now - every time we make a trip to Maui and it's been consistently a great meal. Would definitely recommend and it's worth the wait to get the table by the windows for the great view!"

  • "We arrived to a spectacular view and to such peaceful surroundings. We were greeted by an amazing staff, 2 glasses of champagne (as we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary), and a fantastic menu. We chose from the food/wine pairing menu. Wise decision, and one that we would highly recommend. By far, the best food/wine experience ever! Each dish/wine pairing was memorable and a treat for the senses. The presentation, the flavors, texture combinations, aromas, the surprise ingredients that really enhanced each dish.... everything was spectacular. As we dined we watched the sun set while snapping pictures of the whole experience. This is a must-visit restaurant while visiting Maui!!!"

  • "We've been coming to the Plantation House of dinner for many years now. A beautiful place to have a sunset dinner overlooking Kapalua. This time however will be our last. Last year the food was okay....but this year all of the 4 entrees we had were terrible. I had the Seared Ahi. The fish had no taste at all. Wife decided to go with the flat iron steak and it was terrible...no flavor and the medium rare came out medium well.....One daughter had their pasta dish with bow ties and shrimp.....there was no taste...other daughter had the salmon and it tasted a few days old. An their caesar salad was really a twist.....it had tomatoes and onions....not your traditional style.... Service was excellent as always...but we will not be back !"

  • "We dined here on Friday night, July 11, 2014. Called just 20 minutes prior to arriving and was able to get a table for 4 at 7:15. The decor, ambiance and most of all view is just breathtaking. A pink and purple sunset, combined with the outline of the green trees and golf course and the ocean in the background was just magical. Service was friendly and very good and the food was gourmet qualty. We were even able to get a decent bottle of white wine for $44. Casual dress is permitted as my husband was wearing dress shorts and Hawaiian shirt. We were overcharged for the wine by $10, but I brought this to the attention of the server and she quickly correct the bill. All in all, a wonderful, memorable dining experience."

  • "Fish was fresh, but very dry. (4 of us had the fish and it was the sme for all of us.) The sause that came with it was good, but face you only 1/2 teaspoon worth...needed much more for the dry fish. View was spectacular, service was good."

  • "Very nice place with the air of country club service. 25th anniversary, not a place for being treated like it was. Do not pay attention to customer open table comments. Food was good, service lackluster. Birds flying around inside, cute at first then annoying when they are on your table. Had to throw my ball of bread out onto the ground to get a break from them. Overall, a good experience. A gorgeous view and worthwhile."

  • "Throw your budget out the window at least once when you're on Maui and enjoy the Plantation House. The dishes are inventive and beautifully prepared. Parties of 2 can get tables at the window for an amazing sunset view over neighboring island Lanai. Wonderful experience."

  • "We have eaten brunch here many times so decided to try dinner. Food was excellent not large portions but usually not a places like this. Beautiful view of the pacific and all of Kapalua while eating"

  • "My wife and I ordered chicken - both were the epitome of " rubber chicken". It needed steak knives to cut through it and it was difficult to chew. I cannot ever remember having a worse chicken in a restaurant. Our guest's entrees were ok."

  • "We ate here during a week long stay on Maui and this was my favorite breakfast. It rained while we were there, which created a beautiful rainbow over the golf course and mountains. The bananas foster pancakes were amazing and my husband loved his eggs Benedict. Would highly recommend!"

  • "Our waitress was a bit ditzy which diluted out an otherwise fine dining evening. Food was good but service spotty. This is unusual for this Restaurant."

  • "We had been told about The Plantation House by multiple parties. Only when we arrived and saw the grounds and the restaurant did we realize why it was such a gem. The ocean views and surrounding area was spectacular! The food was equally as amazing, with a great range of choices. Our son had a great time finding the geckos climbing the walls and ceiling around us, too!"

  • "Enjoyed a great evening watching the sun set over the Pacific (bring sunglasses if you request a window seat) and enjoying a nicely paced dinner. The menu has a variety of options to satisfy varying tastes. This was the second time we visited and will return again."

  • "This restaurant has a beautiful setting with grand doors that open onto a terrace overlooking a golf course above the bay. The staff was attentive, personable and professional. The food was quite good, but not outstanding. The promise of fresh ingredients was met although their use was not especially creative. For a pricey neighborhood and relatively expensive venue, we were hoping for a more inspired menu. I would also advise that the food was a little too salty."

  • "This was our second time eating at Plantation House and this time we brought our kids. There was a nice kid menu and the views are incredible. The food was great and the service was excellent. Also a great time to visit as for a Saturday night the restaurant was really quiet which made it more enjoyable."

  • "Great food excellent service (especially for dinner) in a spectacular setting. For Hawaii the food prices were very reasonable for food of this quality. Excellent for both casual breakfast and lunch dining and even better for dinner fine dining. Does not have the boisterous atmosphere of a golf course restaurant so it provides a much more relaxing and enjoyable ambience. Some earlier reviewers complained about quality of service but we found it consistently attentive without being obtrusive. The Plantation House quickly became our favorite restaurant in West Maui. Bravo!"

  • "The Plantation House has always been a part of our visit while staying in Kapalua. Unfortunately, something has changed. The food was uninspired and plain. Calamari appetizer was frozen sticks- really? Also the service was abrupt. Not what you expect at all when paying top dollar. "

  • "The best way to start a day! Have been staying in Kapalua for years, and always eat breakfast here on our first, last and middle day of vacation. The view and fresh air can't be beat. You know you're on vacation. Love the Eggs Benedict with two scoops rice, and the Paniolo Breakfast. The service was really good, very friendly."

  • "Arrived with a bottle of wine expecting to pay a corkage fee. The manager looked at the wine, checked the wine list and, because the wine was on the list, refused to open the wine. 45 minutes after arriving at our table, our order had not been taken. When we complained to both the waiter and manager they seemed indifferent. The food was good, but not good enough to tolerate poor service."
