A word from The Partisan
Joined at the hip to Red Apron, Chef Anda's groundbreaking butcher and charcuterie shop, the restaurant and bar draws heavily from Anda's line of house made products and relies on the meticulous sourcing that has made Red Apron the first and only butcher shop in the nation to use 100% Animal Welfare Approved pork. Anda and Chef Ed Witt's charcuterie program at The Partisan draws from 100s of cured muscles, pates, and sausages, showcasing over 30 different products on any given night.

The balance of the menu is broken up into a series of meat-centric composed dishes highlighting distinctive cuts, cooking techniques, and animal breeds. The portioning encourages sampling, sharing and customizing, which allows guests to construct a completely unique dining experience with each visit.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food is wonderful, ambiance and service, too. What a lovely night!"

  • "This is probably our 5th or 6th time at the Partisan. If you haven't been, don't hurry, RUN to get a table at Partisan. I'll challenge you to find better charcuterie on the East Coast - and that includes Manhattan. The theme of the food is "simple" dishes taken to incredibly high levels. The meat dishes in particular are out-of-this-world. All of this would make for a great experience, if it weren't for the wine list. Sommelier, Wunderkind Brent Kroll, turns this into an absolutely outstanding experience. You must try their version of the summer of Riesling. There's no restaurant we have ever been to - and we've been to a LOT of them - where you'll find a more amazing high-end selection; and by the glass no less. Incredible!!!!!"

  • "Visiting from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, we were looking for some fantastic eats in DC, and this came up! We originally booked reservations, but ended up arriving late due to some last minute plan changes. Regardless, they were able to accommodate us for a later dinner service. Food was overall very good and their butcher shop experience shines through in the food. The meats and dishes were all well executed save for one caveat. My partner and I found some dishes to be on the salty side. We brought this to the attention of the waiter who only laughed it off and said 'that's why we have water!' I'd come here again for the sandwiches and a few select items on the menu. Bolognese was very rich, pasta tastes fresh made, but too salty."

  • "Was loud, no doubt, but the quality of the charcuterie and meats was enough to overcome the din. Each dish was simple in presentation, excellent in ingredients and deep flavor, and touches of surprise popped up across the meal. Will definitely go back."

  • "The Partisan was fabulous. It was incredibly fit for foodies with some of the best foie gras in town."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "We had a fantastic mix of small and large dishes - lots of meat and we even indulged in some vege dishes, like the delicious kale with mushroom salad and the heirloom tomatoes with peaches. Everything was outstanding - from the hostess' greeting, to the drinks, service, and food."

  • "This is a restaurant with some very fun and very creative food, as well as a lengthy charcuterie selection that would be reason enough for a visit in itself. Plus our server was terrific - knowledgeable, helpful and funny -a rare combo. Especially liked the pickled half smoke, triple stack burger, kale and mushroom salad, and the heirloom tomato salad with pickled peaches (new the week we came). And definitely try to leave room for dessert - but it will be hard to do!"

  • "Our party of four dined at The Partisan for a birthday. The "birthday girl" loves meat so we thought she'd appreciate the restaurant. Bottom line: it was great and we all had a great experience. We started with charcuterie and a cheese board and we weren't disappointed. Our server made recommendations as to which to select; all were delicious. We followed up with selections from the regular menu. All four of us had something different (burgers, quail, roast beef, fried chicken). We left room for dessert, and since it was a birthday celebration, one of the desserts came with a birthday candle. Warning to potential diners: the meal may bust your diet but it will be well worth it!"

  • "excellent meal, attentive service, creative and delicious drinks."

  • "A very strong effort to expose diners to foods common in other cultures. Execution is thoughtful but leans towards salty. Portions are small for the price. Still does not replicate food experiences in Spain, Italy, Austria or S America but a step up from typical American fare."

  • "The menu at The Patrisan is extensive and inventive. The sharing portions make this the perfect spot for a small group. The food is great and the staff is helpful, knowledgeable and friendly."

  • "Decided to try this place particularly due to the fact they serve charcuterie with tigelle, something that is quite uncommon outside Emilia. We started with the "Eternal Hamnation" that, excluding the culatello, was awesome. The tigelle were perfect (although not many) and the fried sticks (they fry the dough of tigelle) were great. The tartare was the biggest disappointment (not raw enough) and the lambchetta was meh. However, the Bolognese (why this name?) was awesome: I really wished the portion was bigger. Finally, we opted for the Snicker terrine (very good) and the fried apple pie (awesome, the bacon caramel is to die for). Nothing to argue about service and ambience, our server was kind and attentive and the place is very nice."

  • "Menu style and selections are a great concept - great for a group that might want to share a few plates or have their own meal. Main theme of the restaurant is their selection of meats, but they also have a nice selection of veggie/fish and side options. The stacked burger was amazing."

  • "The charcuterie, wine list and service were excellent. However, the salads were very bland and 3 of the 4 entrees we ordered had problems: overcooked dry fried chicken, tasteless secreto and a porchetta that was nothing more than a slab of fat. The burger was terrific. Desserts were also very good. So, half the meal was good, half was poor. Our group was mixed on whether or not we would return."

  • "Different with all the meat choices . . . but can work for vegans as well. Beautiful setting and the bar is beautiful. Wait staff is wonderful."

  • "Took my family here on a Friday night for Father's Day Dinner. Reservation was for 5:45, table was ready - we had a six top for 5 of us and we all had plenty of space. The food was unequivocally fantastic. The meatballs Mom ordered were so light and airy, the porchetta was heaven, and the 80 day rib eye divine. Our service was impeccable. Jurgen was pleasant, helpful, and accommodating. He was there when we had questions without hovering over us. We were there for three hours and not once were we made to feel as if we should hurry our pace. I will be back. Many times."

  • "Red Apron is a great place, especially at Union Market, so dining at the Partisan was a much-anticipated event. But there was a little _extra_ anticipation because we were on time with a reservation but they'd overbooked. So we hung out in the bar. Nice cocktails. We never did actually get a regular table but were seated in the bar. Only issue is that the decibel levels were much higher in the bar than the dining area. They did comp us an appetizer. Service was attentive and gave a good explanation of the complexities of the menu. Food was quite good and the small portions offered a chance to try multiple items. And make it worth going back and trying others. Not super pricey either."

  • "This restaurant has a great menu to sample all sorts of great foods. The portions are small so you can try lots of items at a very reasonable price."

  • "Great small place to enjoy fantastic charcuterie, superb cocktails and a vibrant see and be seen feel. Restaurant portion of the place is quite small, with the back of the building opening up to a large bar area with high ceilings and dark, warm décor. Service was spot on and we enjoyed a delicious leisurely dinner without feeling rushed out. Will be back, no question."

  • "Loved the pork chop -- it is enough for 3, so get a couple of sides to go with it. It's also great that they sell half glasses of wine -- I wish more restaurants would do that. The bread was fabulous!"

  • "I truly enjoyed my girl's night out with friends visiting from out of town. We truly enjoyed the ambiance! When you walk into the restaurant the mood is set with dim lighting against the exposed brick walls. When you enter you will find quality charcuterie which you can order for appetizers at your table. We began with olives, nuts, prosciutto, honey, a delicate Italian bread/pastry. To accompany our hors devours we enjoyed a few glasses of sauvignon blanc which was divine. Our hors devours were followed by four different salads that were incredible (highly recommend the kale salad), a whole cooked fish, and the roasted then fried chicken. The service was also wonderful as the servers had excellent recommendations and were so kind!"

  • "The service was exceptional. Can't say enough about the attention everyone paid to our table, and all the others. They could answer any question about the menu and made really stellar recommendations without being pushy or overbearing. Get the charcuterie - get the food maybe - but get the house cured meats! "

  • "We ordered a bottle of wine from the "wine menu" with bottle prices. We soon learned the wine had not come from the bottle we ordered, but some type of box or large "keg" according to the server. We dined on bass as well as the "pig's head". The bass was bland and not what we had hoped. The salads were tasty, but the portions were small considering the price. The "bottle" was served in a carafe and we never did see the "bottle". After ordering a glass of the same wine, the server brought the glass and it was not the same as the wine from the carafe. It was brought to the attention of the server. He replied the bartender must have accidentally poured the wrong wine. We will not be back, nor will the restaurant be recommended. "

  • "The Partisan was everything I expected and more. What a refreshing menu, well-prepared and seasoned food and great staff. The beef fat fries are a must and the country pate was the best I've had in the city!"

  • "We went after reading a positive review in the Washington Post. The food is good, but not great. We don't live in DC, so we have no intention of going back. There are much better restaurants in the neighborhood, Oyamel and Jaleo for example. But if you live close to The Partisan and want to have something different every once in a while, it would not be a bad meal. "

  • "Had not heard of this restaurant before, booked based on reviews and was more than pleasantly surprised. Restaurant serves a good selection of cocktails, wines and beers. We picked the draft sauvignon blanc. Started off with the charcuterie - Turkish Mild dried sausage and a couple of others, then moved to roasted mushroom and kale salad, spicy pork with fennel, meatballs, beef tartare, and cheese plate. Each dish had its own distinct flavors and was very tasty. Service was professional and our server gave us good recommendations."

  • "This place is as good as advertised. Delicious charcuterie. My husband and I fought over the last slice of Salami Picante! The meatball and the polenta were awesome. The carrot fusilli was both unique and yummy. Our server was outstanding. Finally, the music was perfect for our tastes. We will be back."

  • "What a great dining experience! Went with 2 colleagues for dinner on a Wednesday night. Unique menu, ideal both for grazing or for a full meal. Everything we had was truly wonderful. This is the first restaurant I have found in DC that specializes in charcuterie - dried sausage, salami, and the like - and they really know their product. The porchetta di testa was a unique find. But the rockfish tartare was also wonderful as was the squid ink bucatini. A special mention about our server, Matthew. He was deeply knowledgeable about the menu and really guided us through the choices. Did I mention they make great cocktails too? We can't wait to come back to try everything else on the menu, which will require many, many more visits."

  • "Despite being meat-centric, my vegetarian friend had a great time and a great selection to choose from. I had the triple stack burger which they prepare medium rare. The bottom of the bun was soaked through and split apart while the top part was very firm, in other words #excellent! Wine was great. Will be back--next week as a matter of fact."

  • "One of the top 5 meals I've had in DC, and I eat out all the time, everywhere. From the service to the food, to the wine, it was all a great night. I can't wait to return."

  • "My husband and I grabbed dinner here on Saturday night and overall it was a good experience. Many of our dishes, including the chicken, charcuterie and fries were spectacular. The brussels sprout salad and fennel salad were good and added a fresh touch to an otherwise heavy meal/menu. Unfortunately, the scallop I got was terrible. It was a single lukewarm scallop atop a cold purée. The waiter mentioned it was new to the menu, so hopefully it will improve. There are also some issues with service that they need to address. The hostess was rude and made us feel very unwelcome. Our waiter was fine, but seemed rushed and in a bad mood. Hopefully it was just a bad day."
