A word from The Local Chicago
In the heart of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile & Gold Coast, The Local Chicago provides an elevated dining experience within walking distance of the city’s greatest shopping and attractions. Proprietors Matt Moore and David Flom, veterans of the acclaimed Chicago Cut Steakhouse in River North, strive for The Local Chicago to be a home away from home. Specially sourced ingredients are used to elevate American comfort food favorites that deeply satisfy. The menu changes seasonally, but standout favorites are the chicken pot pie, bacon-wrapped shrimp and grits, a show-stealing jalapeno corn bread and, borrowing a page from sister restaurant Chicago Cut Steakhouse, sublime USDA Prime steak. From the dining room guests can view the “from-scratch” exhibition kitchen, watching as chefs roast succulent rotisserie chickens and Berkshire pork racks in the restaurant’s majestic red & gold Rotisol. Rounding out the visit is a jaw-dropping wine list delivered via ipad.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to the local several times for different reasons. I would say my favorite is in the summer for outside dining! No worries if it rains and you are not bothered by people on the street. The bar scene is very cozy in the winter and the bartenders are very friendly. Food is consistent , but could use a little umph! It is owned by the same people that own Chicago Cut but would say no where near the caliber of food. What I do appreciate is the fact that you have a warm and friendly atmosphere dining alone or in a group. I have not tried any of their daily specials so maybe I am missing out there. And if you are out to dine leisurely this is not the place for you. Every time I have stated we were in no hurry ,and no wait list."

  • "The Local has a fun, extensive menu with creative American food - including comfort food like meatloaf and chicken pot pie, along with great seafood, salad and side options. The service was exceptional in all respects - including their accommodating our late arrival in a friendly manner, responding creatively to our request for a table where we could watch a March Madness game, having very attentive and friendly wait staff who were helpful but not hovering, and more. The food was all first rate, with generous portions. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates excellent cuisine and service, with a friendly ambience."

  • "Good food. I would recommend the jalapeño cornbread and the mint Oreo dessert."

  • "We enjoyed everything about dinner. The food is great; service is wonderful and friendly. A perfect place to go for an enjoyable dinner out. We plan to go back orten."

  • "Had the ribs they were very good. Waiter was very good."

  • "The Local is owned and operated by two great restaurant guys from Chicago Cut: Matt Moore and David Flom. The food is fresh and high quality and most items are real winners including the salads, ribs, meatloaf, chicken and seafood (especially the specials). They have a great wine selection and great service from the moment you walk in the door. There are a few minor issues. They might consider improving the french fries by using the Chicago Cut french fries because The Local's fries looked dark (almost burnt looking) and not very appetizing or flavorful; the cole slaw was dry on top probably from sitting in the cooler and the dressing was generally bland; and the Pilsner draft beer was flat. Worth trying and returning."

  • "Great comfort food. Cornbeef & Cabbage was very good as was the cornbread & meatloaf. Thank You."

  • "For a lunch place, this restaurant is highly over-priced. The maître d' tried hard to make us feel that this is a luxury eaterie. The small dining space is clean and neat with hard surfaces to make all of the conversations LOUD. There are so many better places on Michigan Avenue, that this pricey restaurant will not see us again. I wish there was ONE highlight, but we didn't see it. The food was mainly too dry."

  • "We went out for Christmas dinner with family member in wheelchair, and chose this restaurant based on the "kid-friendly" recommendation. The noise level was insane, very hard to be heard - we were constantly bumped into by wait staff/kitchen staff, and the food was eh. I know it's Christmas, but definitely disappointing, given this was the only time for us to be with the family member."

  • "Our group (4) mainly had the comfort food options such as meat loaf and chicken pot pie. Very good reports from all. I found a reasonably priced Benziger Cab. The wine list - on a tablet - takes a little getting used to, but a techie should love it."

  • "Couldn't get into Select Cut - their sister restauarant and ended up with a reso here. Everything great, including the moscow mule: served correctly in a chilled tin or copper cup. Our waiter was awesome and we took his lead on a couple items like the prime rib and crab cake appetizer. We would absolutely go back ."

  • "This place is great! Staff is amazing especially the manager. Every time I have come she has taken the time to come over and say hi. Always very easy to get a table. Hasn't been really discovered yet by a lot of people which is a shame but I'm sure that will change quickly. The Kobe hot dog is to die for. Has very light and buttery taste to it that is not over powering. Never once had a bad meal here."

  • "After seeing the deal on Ken table and confirming the price was power couple, I booked a reservation with the local. When they got there, the price was suddenly per person. They were humiliated and I was left feeling guilty for ruining their Valentines. We would have tried to get a refund, but since by mother in law has only used cash this trip, we knew there was nothing that could be done. The hostess lied to me on the phone when I confirmed this reservation. Never been so blind sided by a restaurant."

  • "My first visit at the LOCAL was for a Xmas luncheon with my co-workers and the place never left my mind. I greatly enjoyed the food and the service was exceptional, everyone was so nice. I told my girlfriends about the LOCAL upon my return to work and expressed how my experience was and how I was ready to go back; and I did for a friends Birthday at this visit. Now we all are planning when we are going to return to the LOCAL..."

  • "I was a solo diner here and my table was situated in the middle of large groups of people. I felt uncomfortable and rushed. The amount of food served on your plate is far to much. The restaurant is dimly lit so it was difficult to see what you were actually eating. It was not a good experience but I am sure if you were with someone it would be more enjoyable and you would not be made to feel like an inconvenience."

  • "Liquor is way over priced. Too many wonderful restaurants you can go to that don't mark up their wine and liquor. They're not going to get the neighborhood business."

  • "Wonderful drink & wine options. We started with an appetizer ~ the blue cheese sauce served over homemade potato chips. This was one of the best appetizers! I then ordered the fish & chips (cod & seasoned fries). This was a generous portion & very good. My husband had the rotisserie chicken & kale which he also enjoyed. The service was exceptional. Our waiter answered several questions about the food & was very attentive without be intrusive. The manager checked on each table to see if people were enjoying their food."

  • "The name is somewhat odd, but the food is excellent. My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner here on Saturday. The bar menu is presented on an iPad, so we had fun choosing our cocktails. Each bartender has come up with several seasonal recipes, and my choice, Autumn's Amaro, was tasty. We then shared a Lobster Quesadilla appetizer and an order of Diver Sea Scallops with Butternut Squash Risotto. The scallops were huge and not at all fishy, and the risotto was perfectly done, with a little sage balsamic reduction that was the perfect foil for the sweetness of the squash. The wait staff was very accommodating and our shared entree was served on 2 plates."

  • "There are not many restaurants in the neighborhood that provide solidly decent food with decent service at a reasonable price. In the same hotel, for example, there is a restaurant with $100 plus prix fixe meals. So The Local is a pleasant fall-back. It advertises itself as having comfort food. These include a decent hamburger. On the other hand, it's ribs are militantly non-memorable. And so are other dishes. Service is efficient. Servers sell a little too vigorously and exaggerate the virtues of particular dishes--the above ribs being an example. Get a hamburger and you can't go wrong."

  • "We will definitely be making this a regular place to dine/have drinks whenever in the city! Logan and Bobbi were fantastic bartenders! The oysters were great and blue cheese chips out if this world. We also would order the drummettes again and again. Also no short pours on wine glasses here!! A must go place and sit at the bar if you can!"

  • "We love Local. Great cornbread, ribs, risotto, scallops...I have never had a bad meal here. I will definitely be back. Prices are totally reasonable for such a great location! We went right after family mass on Christmas Eve and it truly was PERFECT!"

  • "Like the comfort food notion of this place. Not much to it in terms of atmosphere, but it's a block from where I live so I'll definitely be back looking for something on the menu I really like. What I had hit the spot hunger-wise, but it wasn't special enough to try again. Want to support neighborhood places, whether they're in the ground floor of a hotel or not."

  • "Cold Thursday night in Chicago, looking for something interesting and very close to hotel. First time at The Local and it was great - service, menu and specials. Burgers are huge and require a fork/knife. Also try turkey dinner special on Thursday."

  • "We were there for a working dinner with our boss in from out of town. The food was great for a cold winters night. Everyone was happy with the service as well. They were not too busy so it was a little overkill but none the less very nice. If I'm in the area again, I would go back."

The atmosphere was great, the service was the best I've ever had, and I had probably one of the most memorable nights of my life because of the kindness shown to me and my fiancé by the staff."

  • "Was in Chicago for business recently and wanted to catch a quick bite for dinner with out a lot of hoopla and fanfare (or an outrageously expensive tab). But we did want a good meal in a nice atmosphere with out a lot of tourist trappings. And boy did we find the place! The menu was relatively small but featured a nice selection of American favorites and comfort food -- all excellently prepared and delivered by a very friendly and attentive waiter. The meal turned out to be exactly what we wanted -- great food, great service in a lively ambiance with out all of the fuss and over-priced menu. The only oddity of the experience, which we found more amusing than anything, was when a local brought their dog with them in a stroller. Oh well!"

  • "Friends recommended this adorable place, and we were initially attracted to the varied menu options and location. The steak salad was a generous portion, but the Asian seasoning and dressing missed the boat for one of us. Also, the cheesy grits failed to produce the lush creamy sensation I'd wanted -- but again the portion was quite generous. The dessert menu was hard to resist, but the very high restaurant noise level made us decide to not linger. The menu was such a plus that I might try the place another time, 'tho my dinner partner will decline joining me."
