A word from The Lark
The Lark pays homage to the history of California train travel and tributes the treasured and long gone Santa Barbara Fish Market, built in the 1920’s as a commercial fish processing plant, shipping their seafood products throughout the state by rail. With an imaginative yet approachable menu created by the gifted Jason Paluska, The Lark celebrates everything found around Santa Barbara County – wineries, farms, ocean and natural beauty. The stunning design strives to connect to the past and the future, using discovered objects from the past and blending them with modern, urban and industrial materials to spectacular effect. Diner Reviews
  • "We've eaten here twice in one week-it is that good. Servers are very knowledgeable, if not somewhat interruptive. All the veggies are uniquely prepared, the platters are meant to share, the desserts varied and a good, reasonable size after a huge amount of food. I recommend going early to avoid a long wait. Parking valet is a must. Younger crowd as the evening advanced."

  • "The Lark IS the spot for "everything" (and I mean everything) good, great and exceptional. Go there!"

  • "My husband and I love dining out and do it often. While we both seek to embrace the whole experience, he is more particular about food and I about ambiance. Lark keeps us both very happy all the time and the staff is very friendly. The time I came with two girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. They had a birthday note on the table and treated us to an incredible dessert. Love this place!"

  • "After having such an amazing experience the first evening of our SB trip, we decided nothing could compare so we came back the next night. Best meal in the LA area yet!"

  • "Share your plates with your loved ones! Was very impressed with the brussels sprouts and devil's eggs appetizers. Enjoyed the lemon custard and gloried s'more. Also ordered the pork loin which was delicious and large portion. Scallops entree was okay...I've had better. I didn't feel the flavors went well with the fruit it was paired with."

  • "One of the best gourmet experiences. Amazing choices and tastes !! From the appetizers to the desert! Service was spectacular as well!!!"

  • "The food is outstanding, and the service was amazing! We felt very pampered. We appreciated all the outdoor heaters and fire pits that kept us comfortable while dining outside."

  • "Dining at this restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip to Santa Barbara and it did not disappoint! The food was incredible with great beer and wine selections. There were many choices on the menu to please any appetite or palate, all of which were beautifully served and delicious. The patio was also dog friendly! Huge bonus for our experience."

  • "From the creative cocktails, knowledgeable wait staff, inventive food all the way to the delicious desserts, The Lark does not disappoint. The brussel sprout starter is a must. Honestly, there was not a single thing our group of 4 ordered that wasn't great. Pavlova and ice cream sandwich desserts are perfect."

  • "Yes. Every single time The Lark is perfection-right down to the silver ware. The Lark is THE gem of Santa Barbara."

  • "I found this place via yelp and it had a great rating and nice pictures so we decided to try this.. Maybe this place could be good as a bar? but not as a restaurant for sure. Our tea tasted cheap and bad, salad was really oily and not fresh. we couldn't even finish our dish and left early to go to other restaurant..Me and my friend had been trying different restaurants every day for a week, but this was the worst place out of 10 restaurants we tried. If this place is just a bar and food was not their main thing, I could understand it better. I should remember that never trust yelp review and ratings.. I learned the lesson here I guess."

  • "Stellar is more like it. And the food and service matches. I can't think of any place I rather be than The Lark."

  • "Food, creative and delicious. Service, Excellent from every employee. One suggestion, the wine list is loaded with imported wines no one ever heard of, loading it with CA wines would be a much better idea. Wine is an area that makes it easy to buy American, especially with the superior quality of CA wines. GREAT POPCORN!"

  • "The only part of the dinner we enjoyed was the branzino. The rest of the food was either tasteless or way too peppery."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "The food was varied and interesting, generally savory. They recommend sharing family style, which we did and it let us sample more items. The cocktails were also good interesting mixes. Four stars is a good review from me."

  • "After having eaten at The Lark about a half dozen times, I've learned to pay attention to the description of the dishes and ask to have certain items eliminated or substituted, due to dietary restrictions. I have found the staff to be very gracious and accommodative in such requests. Even when such changes are made, the dishes remain as delicious as ever. The vibe in The Lark is energetic and makes going there all-around fun."

  • "Make a reservation and get to the area about two hours early. GOOD THING. They took us right at Friday night at 8:15, our reservation time. But, There are about 10 places with in spitting distance where you'll have a good time, move around, have fun and enjoy yourselves, wine taste, play guitars, and then the Lark will top off the evening. Perfect. Probably Not kid friendly. Food great, hip scene, quietly noisey, and a lot to look at. (Myself) A UCSB gaucho gives this an A+ for locals and tourists. That is my review. Rich."

  • "The Lark is a great addition to our Santa Barbara dining experience. I love the atmosphere and the food. We shared olives, deviled eggs, beet salad and the chicken platter. Everything we tasted was well prepared with interesting flavors. The wait staff was very attentive."

  • "The Lark goes all the way in excellence! Every time. The service, the food is simply my favorite. Thank you Lark!"

  • "Come here for the crowd, ambience, and decor. But if you're looking for superlative food matching their prices, go elsewhere. Their flank steak dish contained 1/3 of a steak presented as 4 slices of meat (billed as an entree and appetizer size) I've had better deviled eggs at potlucks but the winner was the grilled vegetables dish (mostly zucchini) advertised in the menu as a ratatouille platter. Understand the chefs attempt at finding an exciting name for the dishes but I find it annoying when the names are actually misleading. Ratattouille is not a wood board with grilled vegetables arranged on top, that's grilled vegetables. Dishes presentation was really good, although our waiters managed to mess them up in a couple of occasions."

  • "Great menu variety. Food was all well prepared.....we had the Hanger steak and diver scallops. Dungeoness crab gnocchi was 86'd unfortunately. Service staff very knowledgeable and efficient. Meal was paced very well. Definitely recommend!"

  • "Food is good, but the menu never changes or seldom does. I think the kitchen works as hard as they can but we need to mix it up a bit."

  • "Four of us finally went to The Lark, months after its opening and often ecstatic reviews from friends. I have to say that they had me when they plunked down the basket of seasoned popcorn instead of the traditional bread. We got one of the closed in booths which greatly ameliorated the noise level, making the experience a perfect combination of high energy around us with enough baffling that we and our friends could have a great conversation. Now to the food: The fried brussel sprouts with the fish sauce - addictive; sea scallops fresh and perfectly seasoned; beet salad with pluots delish; roasted bronzini also excellent. We had many, many special requests handled with cheer and accuracy!"

  • "This is a must stop if you you are in Santa Barbara. The food is served in a family style way so go with friends and experience an array of different plates. The food was unbelievable. I have high expectations when I am in SB and The Lark exceeded them. This place is clearly a new hot spot so make reservations early! Also the food is locally sourced and is seasonal."

  • "We fought over the fried castelvetrano olives, oysters on the half shell, roasted beets and cast iron roasted broccolini on a crowded Tuesday evening. The food was superb, the service exemplary. A great meal is in store for you when you try this restaurant."

  • "We had a delicious and very interesting meal at Lark. The service was good though the wait staff was very young they were attentive. Vibrant bar scene good wine and beer list. Fresh foods like some many in Santa Barbara but with great presentation and combinations that we have longed for in town."

  • "It was a fabulous - from the beginning to the end. The choreography of the whole dining experience reflects a happy staff, well orchestrated team work with a payoff of fantastic food to feast on. Hope they can maintain the high bar they have set for themselves."

  • "Went here for our anniversary and we were greeted with a nice handwritten note and two glasses of champagne. Also brought our 4 mo. old Golden Retriever puppy and sat outside. Staff was so friendly and food was very tasty. Great energy all the way around."

  • "My boyfriend and I went for dinner at The Lark recently after I received a gift card. I'd heard good things so I was definitely excited to go. My boyfriend had the Marinated & Grilled Hanger Steak (which we thought was good, but not outstanding) and I had the Housemade Gnocci & Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder (which I thought was AMAZING!) My boyfriend also had a cocktail which we each agreed was quite tasty, however I unfortunately can't recall the name of the drink. One of the best things about dining here was that when we sat outside at about 9:30pm they actually had enough heaters and a roaring fire so for once I was not cold! I also saw a basket of blankets, so I think you'd be covered even if the heaters/ fire wasn't enough!"

  • "The Lark was a fabulous experience for me and my wife on our 20th Anniversary. From the hostess who greeted us, through the bartender who served us our Prosecco, on to the waiter who took divine care of us, we had a fabulous evening. The place has a cozy feel and while full of people, never felt crowded or hurried or rushed. The meal was exquisite and the kitchen earns rave reviews from this oft-anointed food snob. Well done and thanks for such a memorable evening."

  • "Think your web site should tell of your "family style" type dinners. We like to go out to eat so we can each have what we like and not have to share as we do day to day. We have different tastes and going out allows us to have what we want without considering the other's preferences so your family style really doesn't suit us."

  • "four of us ordered 5 or 5 small plates and one platter. Probably too much. Both arugula and beet salad were terrific. Oysters on half shell were good. Octopus was a disappointment, but orzo on the side was delicious. Flank steak very good. Wine selections were excellent. As always, I enjoy the full explanation as each dish is served."

  • "After many meals at The Lark we are consistently impressed at the quality and creativity of the offerings. The service is superior to any we have experienced in Santa Barbara. The salads are fantastic and great to share. The chicken is the juiciest, most flavorful we have ever had and the scallops were cooked to perfection. The offerings appealed to our kids and our youngest loved the grilled cheese (not your average grilled cheese at all). The deserts are divine and are great to share. Something to please everyone! Eclectic, comfortable and vibrant scene."
