The Lark pays homage to the history of California train travel and tributes the treasured and long gone Santa Barbara Fish Market, built in the 1920’s as a commercial fish processing plant, shipping their seafood products throughout the state by rail.   • "I know the word is way over used..but this place was. Awesome. Professional and attentive staff..to every detail..very creative and flavor able food. The must have dish is there dun gets crab/gnocchi..its a bit spicy and mixes great flavors together. It is a seasonal dish so get it while you can. Oh, almost forgot..they have a cool wine bar in the back with a patio..doesn't get any better. .to party after dinner. A really hip place."

  • "i'd suggest more servers and less "hosts/hostesses" standing around the already crowded entry area. made a RSVP 2 months in advance and asked for a booth that was available at the same time our table was and i asked for it but was quickly dismissed that it was reserved. well the funny thing is i went to the front and asked how i can "reserve" a table and she said they don't do that. so either the woman who sat us was lying or, i'll refrain from the word i want to use here... the food was just alright considering the price point. probably would go back to the bar for drinks, but the food could be better. DO NOT ORDER the crab gnocchi as it's more like a ceviche, flavorless with a hint of minced crab. waste."

  • "My husband and I came here for our anniversary-we were treated so well-the service was absolutely incredible. The team service approach allowed us to be served promptly. Each staff member, including the bartender, was incredibly knowledgable about the menu items. The staff was friendly. The dishes are generally in smaller portions and are designed to be shared. Food was fresh, delicious, brought at the right time, and had unique flavors. It was expensive but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "A perfect evening. Beet salad, hangar steak, dessert were memorable. Gnocchi with crab a 7/10. Service and ambiance ideal. Will go here whenever in SB. Freshest seasonal ingredients. We are picky and Lark impressed us. They accommodate food allergies as well without sacrificing integrity of dish. Very reasonably priced too. We liked the family/tapas style. Let us try 4 very unique flavorful dishes. Definitely for those who appreciate creative cooking and are willing to be adventurous with food. Not for the steak and potatoes. This chef is exciting and offers dishes with ingredients one would not expect . Lots of big tables for groups, parties etc. Side patio for quieter intimate dining. Need reservations. Service exceptional"

  • "We spent three nights in Santa Barbara to celebrate our anniversary. The Lark was highly recommended. The building itself is quite cool. Our meal started with a wonderful note wishing us a happy anniversary and two glasses of champagne. Nice touch! They serve food family style and recommended ordering three or four small plates or a couple of large platters. We ended up ordering a bunch of stuff as it all looked so good: brussel sprouts (awesome!), deviled eggs (good, not great), tomato panzanella salad (out of this world!), pork belly (yum), scallops (more please!), and crab gnocchi (delish). The portions were all pretty generous, especially the salad. We were so full we didn't even have room for dessert (which is VERY unusual LOL). GO!"

Went next door after dinner to their wine shop - Les Marchand and bought several bottles. Nice space indoors and on patio. Near the beach and plenty of parking."

The food was absolutely fabulous and the service was great! Love the shared dinning concept. We had the brusselsprouts, heirloom tomato salad, crab and nocchi, and the fish platter. Every dish was stellar. The only "ding" I would give it was the wine list which I found to be quite overpriced."

Lark keeps us both very happy all the time and the staff is very friendly. The time I came with two girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. They had a birthday note on the table and treated us to an incredible dessert. Love this place!"

  • "We've eaten here twice in one week-it is that good. Servers are very knowledgeable, if not somewhat interruptive. All the veggies are uniquely prepared, the platters are meant to share, the desserts varied and a good, reasonable size after a huge amount of food. I recommend going early to avoid a long wait. Parking valet is a must. Younger crowd as the evening advanced."

We shared four small plates (Duck Liver Mousse, Crispy Smoked Pork Belly, Grilled Octopus and Dungeness Crab & Gnocchi). The server paced the meal well and arranged the order to perfection.   • "I found this place via yelp and it had a great rating and nice pictures so we decided to try this.. Maybe this place could be good as a bar? but not as a restaurant for sure. Our tea tasted cheap and bad, salad was really oily and not fresh. we couldn't even finish our dish and left early to go to other restaurant..Me and my friend had been trying different restaurants every day for a week, but this was the worst place out of 10 restaurants we tried. If this place is just a bar and food was not their main thing, I could understand it better. I should remember that never trust yelp review and ratings.. I learned the lesson here I guess."

  • "Make a reservation and get to the area about two hours early. GOOD THING. They took us right at Friday night at 8:15, our reservation time. But, There are about 10 places with in spitting distance where you'll have a good time, move around, have fun and enjoy yourselves, wine taste, play guitars, and then the Lark will top off the evening. Perfect. Probably Not kid friendly. Food great, hip scene, quietly noisey, and a lot to look at. (Myself) A UCSB gaucho gives this an A+ for locals and tourists. That is my review. Rich."

  • "After having eaten at The Lark about a half dozen times, I've learned to pay attention to the description of the dishes and ask to have certain items eliminated or substituted, due to dietary restrictions. I have found the staff to be very gracious and accommodative in such requests. Even when such changes are made, the dishes remain as delicious as ever. The vibe in The Lark is energetic and makes going there all-around fun."

  • "Come here for the crowd, ambience, and decor. But if you're looking for superlative food matching their prices, go elsewhere. Their flank steak dish contained 1/3 of a steak presented as 4 slices of meat (billed as an entree and appetizer size) I've had better deviled eggs at potlucks but the winner was the grilled vegetables dish (mostly zucchini) advertised in the menu as a ratatouille platter. Understand the chefs attempt at finding an exciting name for the dishes but I find it annoying when the names are actually misleading. Ratattouille is not a wood board with grilled vegetables arranged on top, that's grilled vegetables. Dishes presentation was really good, although our waiters managed to mess them up in a couple of occasions."

  • "Four of us finally went to The Lark, months after its opening and often ecstatic reviews from friends. I have to say that they had me when they plunked down the basket of seasoned popcorn instead of the traditional bread. We got one of the closed in booths which greatly ameliorated the noise level, making the experience a perfect combination of high energy around us with enough baffling that we and our friends could have a great conversation. Now to the food: The fried brussel sprouts with the fish sauce - addictive; sea scallops fresh and perfectly seasoned; beet salad with pluots delish; roasted bronzini also excellent. We had many, many special requests handled with cheer and accuracy!"
