The Lark pays homage to the history of California train travel and tributes the treasured and long gone Santa Barbara Fish Market, built in the 1920’s as a commercial fish processing plant, shipping their seafood products throughout the state by rail. With an imaginative yet approachable menu created by the gifted Jason Paluska, The Lark celebrates everything found around Santa Barbara County – wineries, farms, ocean and natural beauty. The stunning design strives to connect to the past and the future, using discovered objects from the past and blending them with modern, urban and industrial materials to spectacular effect. Diner Reviews
  • "We ate here for our 5 year anniversary and it was superb. We were great by all staff with a warm congrats and they left a nice postcard for us on the table congratulating us again. They served us complimentary champagne to start and the rest of the night was fantastic. All the dishes are top notch and the wine, beer and cocktail list is as well. The price isn't high and the dishes are big. "

  • "The Lark is a hybrid of a city vibe in a local small city neighborhood...it has a vibrant atmosphere mixed with a delicious and creative menu and fabulous service, thank you Lark for coming to Santa Barbara! "

  • "farm to gourmet table. the food is consistently delicious, current, and original in it's pairings. "

  • "The snacks and platters are some indication of portion size. The farm, ranch and ocean designations make sense. But it took time with the server to figure out the right combination -- we ordered one less dish than we first thought we'd need, and switched out one meat dish for another. That said, it was tasty! There are many ingredients on each plate. Duck liver mousse was rich and perked up by the strawberries. The salad w/crab was a good size, nicely dressed (could've used mored crab tho). Hanger steak, medium rare, with charred broccoli, was really good. Scallops hit the mark except for the tangerines. Branzino was a highlight w/chorizo and meyer lemon. We'll be back. P.S. Popcorn in lieu of bread -- fun idea, well seasoned."

  • "I travel a lot, and we enjoy good restaurants everywhere we go. Maybe i caught them on a very good night, but I can honestly say this was among the best restaurant experiences I've had ever (and i'm 55 years old - had a few meals). The food is creative and delicious. The service was impeccable - friendly, well informed, attentive - but not intrusive. The wine list was excellent The feel is casual, yet not too informal. I f you're not familiar with The Lark, the menu is designed for sharing - sort of like tapas but better. Plates come in 3 size tiers and my wife and shared one "small" plate, two "midsize" plates and a main. our server guided us. It was perfect. We live in Denver - but we will be back."

  • "Yes! Yes! Yes! I have never enjoyed myself more in Santa Barbara than at The Lark. It's simply the best spot in town....for everything."

  • "Everything was wonderful from the food to the service to the ambience!"

  • "This was our fifth visit to The Lark and it continues to satisfy. Staff was accommodating when we moved to a table that was more private (we were celebrating a birthday) and brought a delicious dessert on the house at the end. Food remains interesting and very flavorful. Love the patio and the knowledgeable, friendly wait staff."

  • "We're locals and were thrilled when the Lark opened. We came all the time and have talked about it to many friends both local and visiting. Well, It's time to add to the menu! The items they have are of good quality and flavorful. But the selection has gotten old. When all tne dishes are so unusual (which is what brought such popularity at first), then you need to mix it up. Have more or even just simple specials. If this was just a tourest spot then it's understandable, but Many locals want to return and are now just stopping in for a drink then leaving to dine at other places. We hope to hear that they've saved it before the name is tarnished. However, Fun bar sceen... But The funk zone has that everywhere, we need a great restaurant!"

  • "Great new place in SB. Terrific service with friendly and knowledgable staff. Food was fantastic. Wine list was great- but pricey.. they could use more mid-priced wines on their list. Most Pinots were $100-$300. A lot considering the great wines in the area at more reasonable price points. We'll be back."

  • "to us, this is the first real foodie restaurant in SB -- not fussy food or old favorites, but delicious, fresh, gorgeously prepared real food - both hearty and surprising."

  • "The meal was great! Not really too much else can be said. Easily the most vibrant, hip place in Santa Barbara. Really loved it."

  • "This is the second time I've dined at Lark's and highly recommend it. The wait-people are pleasant, informative and fun. My favorites are the beet salad, grilled sprouts and the fish. The local vodka is awesome!"

  • "The Lark features carefully prepared and locally sources small plates to share. Everything is wonderful and our party of four split seven different dishes, each of which was a mini-masterpiece. With my first visit the Lark became one of our favorite Santa Barbara restaurants."

  • "Excellent food & service. Chef uses a variety of ingredients to create a wonderful mix of flavors. Went here for a wedding anniversary, wife loved it."

  • "THe place is jammed, so waiters are busy and unable to be attentive or give advice. Our appetizers were rushed out even before we had received our drinks, one of our entrees came heaped with greens, and we had already had a huge green salad. Our waiter should have advised us to get something else. Some of the food is good, some not so good. The drinks are excellent, but overpriced, as seems to be the trend. It's also very noisy so don't go there if you want to talk. It's a neighborhood scene and is fun in that way."

  • "This place is a new hot spot in Santa Barbara. Like many restaurants here,it is a small, and quite noisy. The decor is cozy,Mediterranean with small tables, and one large community table. that's a great idea! The service is incredible, and the wine and drink list is extensive and very creative. The food is extremely creative, using many different, favors, textures and spices that I have never experienced before! From appetizer to desert , I guarantee an unchartered food experience! It was out of my league, that's why the 3 stars. Don't let that stop you,I have a quite boring palate,it is very popular here. Don't forget to make reservations, even in the middle of the week, this place is packed, and you can make them online on their website The Lark."

  • "Without a doubt The Lark is a jewel - on every level imaginable. Sounds like allot....but the truth remains in the impeccable service, food, atmosphere and enjoyment. The Lark rocks."

  • "The Lark was recommended to us by some locals and the restaurant/experience did not disappoint. Great vibe, great energy, great food. We loved the savoury popcorn that came out to start, such a surprise and the flavours they used on the popcorn were unusual and totally delicious. The food was great tasting and the family style service made the meal fun and interactive. We even bought the kitchen staff 6 beer we were in such a good mood!"

  • "I like the free valet parking. it starts everything out right if you don't have to search for parking. 6:30 reservation, seated right on time. great menu with lots of small plates. please bring back pork belly sliders."

  • "This is the best restaurant I've been to in Santa Barbara and will go back every time I'm in town. The food, the service, the room - all top notch. And it was the little things that made it great - the little salad that came with the house-made Pimento cheese in a jar had a little tangyness offset by (I think) pickled jalapenos. Just delicious. And the platter of Mary's Half Chicken with pea tendrils was so good. Service was equally good. We loved it. My only quibble would be with the wine list - I would have expected to find more Central Coast wines on there and would love to see a couple of hidden gems at a good price on the list. Most all wine on the list, both by the bottle and by the glass, is very high. But a great restaurant!"

  • "The food was great-inventive, beautifully presented with attentive service. Not pretentious. The wine list was disappointing. Since the restaurant is located in a excellent wine producing part of California, it was disappointing that there weren't more local selections and some range in pricing, including some inexpensive choices. The corkage fee should be clearly listed on the menu and web site."

  • "Really enjoyed the food and ambiance at the Lark. The one thing I really really didn't like was the popcorn served in place of bread. The popcorn was tasty but it just didn't go with our appetizers etc.... I really wanted a alice of bread with those magnificent olives they serve! I say, get rid of the popcorn, and only serve it at the bar for those needing a munchie with their cocktails."

  • "We finally got to The Lark and were very impressed with the food. Great ingredients, generous portions and professional yet friendly service made this a terrific dining experience. The restaurant is almost too busy to have a relaxing meal but the buzz of the place was fun too. There was plenty of management walking around; it was unclear if they were looking to insure great dining experiences or looking for a table ready to turn."

  • "Interesting, yummy food. Timely delivery of various courses. Energetic, hip vibe. Loved the confessional style booths for a quieter, intimate spot. nothing else like it in Santa Barbara."

  • "I took my husband to this restaurant as a surprise. I wanted to love it. Neither of us did. The brussel sprouts are outstanding. Beyond that, our meal was not memorable. However, we DO REMEMBER how bland, unseasoned and dry our short ribs were. How meat could be tender yet dry I don't know but they mastered it. It was just like eating a chunk of meat. Our waitress Lauren also was bland and not at all personable. The staff that brought each course to our table were very knowlegeable and personable."

  • "Fun atmosphere, lovely setting. Attentive helpful staff. Started with the oysters which were magnificent. Do try the Brussel sprouts! Everything was great."

  • "Having to wait for 30 mins for a reservation is excessive. The Mary's Chicken that previously had been on the menu was sublime. It has been changed . The flavors did not work well together. And, the chicken , itself, was chewy and rubbery. Did not taste fresh. All I can say is I will not order that again. Very disappointing. Too bad"
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Why? Because there is nothing The Lark does every little detail with absolute perfection. And the staff, well they are all jewels! The Lark has the best service in Santa Barbara. That's the truth. I love The Lark!"
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "A very nice setting for outdoor dining, interesting menu with shared plate format. Service was excellent. We tried the brussel sprout starter, asparagus salad, BBQ chicken platter, and an ice cream desert. All the plates were attractive and tasty, but we prefer savory or spicy, and our meal was-- in sum--- more on the sweet side. We will most definitely return and explore the menu."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "The Lark is a great place to have lunch or diner if you like the feel of a trend eclectic atmosphere. I loved the oysters and the grilled branzino. It was fabulous. The mussels were cooked perfectly but it was a "déjà vu" dish from a Thai restaurant because of the green curry broth. I definitely recommend the "pot de creme" for dessert..outstanding!"

  • "Finally made it to dinner at this "hot spot". Our party of four enjoyed everything we ordered. Unique flavor combos-presented with style. Our server was excellent, adding to the experience. We'll be back."

  • "Interesting, unusual selections. More common selections prepared in novel, delicious ways. Loved everything we ate especially the mussels in a broth with citrus ."

  • "First time there and I was pleasantly surprised with the good food. Service was not all that good with a waitress that was a cold fish. Dessert was super. The ice-cream sandwich could not have been better. Fairly expensive, but once in a while it would be worth it. The parking was a zoo! This is located in the heart of the tourist area, and the atmosphere of the entire neighborhood was 100% party. If that's what you crave, this is the place. If you want quiet-don't go there."

  • "We took friends for their first time at The Lark and they loved it. Comment was that it's a great dining experience that breaks away from the similarity of most restaurants. New menu items keep it fresh for those of us that have been before - the gnocchi in lamb ragu a wonderful new addition to the menu."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "The Lark is everything I've wanted for a long time for Santa Barbara. It's simply the best spot for "everything" wonderful!"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "Just what Santa Barbara needed! Great food and ambiance, but not square and stuffy. The decor has been beautifully done using a lot of repurposed materials. The staff is young but well trained and surprisingly good. The food is innovative without being stupid. Really a great place, either inside or out."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "While the food is by far above average here, and our group enjoyed sharing dishes, the wine list is pretentious and needs some bottles offered at less than $50. This is not Daniel in New York, but a casual bistro in the Funk Zone! Outdoor dining is very pleasant with multiple heaters to keep you warm."
