  • "We were so disappointed in every aspect of the evening. We had been there once before for an Irish Coffee and liked the place, so we made plans to return on our next trip. The service was indifferent, and the food was nothing special. I had expected so much more from Chef Murphy's restaurant."

  • "In honor of St. Patrick's Day, my book club chose The Irish House to meet and discuss the book we selected by the Irish author, Oscar Wilde. We had a wonderful afternoon at The Irish House - can't wait until we visit again."

  • "The food here is very good. I am a bit of a French fry critic and I will have to say these pass the test with flying colors. I am sure they are home made. The fish (in the fish in chips) are a decent size and aren't covered in breading. Now - let's turn to the disappointing part. The service at this restaurant has always been an issue. We arrived at 630pm on the Friday before St. Patrick's day, not super busy yet but lively. We were put a table immediately only to have our server walk around us, never acknowledging us, or even looking at us for that matter. I ask for a different server immediately and was quickly asked by the hostess if we want a drink. Manager came and spoke to us...seemingly everything was put back into order."

  • "Great place to hang out with friends. Food is a nice change of pace from traditional New Orleans cuisine. Shepherd's pie was excellent. Server was very friendly but slow. It was a busy night. Was not a buzz kill and we were not in a rush so it was ok."

  • "We had a great time. The food was great, Irish House favorites; fish and chips for me and bangors and mash for Susan. The servers were great, we talked to several staff."

  • "We ordered a variety of appetizers, all if which were very good. The pork cheeks and potato and leek soup were outstanding. It was Valentines Day and the restaurant was packed. Two of us decided to order an entree at full price from the prize fix menu. Bad mistake. What we received were very small portions of tasteless veal sliced as thin as bologna. The accompaniments were small portioned but delicious."

  • "This chef is high caliber, and the decor is phenomenal!"

  • "I have enjoyed this restaurant before and I will return. However, there were major inconsistencies that I feel at the end of the meal I was not happy with the experience. My partner and I both ordered the the chef's valentines day special. which started off with a salad with strawberries but hardly any dressing in proportion to the size of the salad. I found the choice of bbq meatloaf a bit odd for the second course but it was prepared well. Both pieces of salmon that I received for my main dish were visibly overcooked on one edge and I was expecting more lump crab meat. But the creme brule was excellent. I understand that this is one of the busiest days of the year but I feel they could step up there expo."

  • "My wife and I ate here for Valentines. I had gone online to see the menu and it had a great selection to choose from. I. Knew that I wanted to try thr Lamb Shank, when I looked the menu after being seated that it was a much more abbreviated menu than the one online. I settled for the Pork Cheeks and they were fantastic. My wife ordered the salmon dinner but was a little disappointed. She said the salmon was tasty, but the grilled vegetables and beet reduction that the salmon was sitting on was a little different. The farmer cheese appetizer was great. The singer was enjoyable, but not sure I would clarify the restaurant as romantic. All in all it was a very nice dinning experience. Will be back."

  • "I took my girlfriend out for our dating anniversary, and Irish House was amazing. I had a braised short rib that was delicious and fell off the bone. The same can be said for my girlfriend's lamb shank. The restaurant was packed, and now I know why."

  • "The food was very good and the menu had lots of great choices! Something for everyone's taste, I think. Our food was slow to arrive and the staff apologized several times. No effort to compensate with a dessert though:( It is an attractive dining room- lots of Irish memorabilia. Live singer was drowned out by the exceptionally noisy room. You really cannot have a comfortable convo at times. The location is convenient and there's parking which is a good feature. We will go again."

  • "I hadn't been back to the Irish House in over a year, but when Amazon Local offered a deal, I snapped it up. I invited my sister and brother-in-law to go, since they hadn't eaten there, and all of us enjoyed the food. I got my usual roasted chicken soup and the scallops entree and both were excellent. My brother-in-law got the short ribs and pronounced them the perfect comfort food, and my sister got the salmon with colcannon - her only issue was that the greens mixed in the potatoes was cabbage, not kale, but that is one variation on colcannon, so her preference for kale is not a fault in their choice of greens. And we all enjoyed the signature sticky toffee pudding - decadently delicious, as ever!"

  • "The atmosphere was great. Lively & fun, but the food was nothing special. Bland crab cake & the beer battered fish was just bad . Dinner menu had few options. Not a steak offered or even Irish stew or shepherds pie, etc. fun place , yes, but we went to eat good food. Don't understand what this place was packed."

  • "We were disappointed in the quality and preparation of the food. My wife had short ribs an $25.00 and it was like a stew with heavy gravy and the meat distributed through the gravy. It could have just as well been over cooked chuck roast. I had the redfish and was also disappointed in the preparation. I'm not so sure it was really redfish. It looks like they may have a decent happy hour but we didn't arrive in time for that"

  • "Set menu for New Year's Eve. Food was generally good but not at level expected for a "gastro pub". As one of our party put it w/re the shortribs, "like a good potroast you would get at your mom's" but not anything unusual/special. Champagne citrus oyster shooters were a miss. Dessert (flourless chocolate cake) was quite good, though. Some fumbles by waitstaff on things like drinks, silverware taken away between courses and not replaced. However, it was on NYE evening and busy so may not be representative."

  • "We were excited to try the restaurant since the reviews seemed favorable. After sitting down, it took sometime for the waitress to arrive to take our drink order and it took them a good 20 minutes to bring out 3 beers & the iced teas. Were they going back to Ireland to get the drinks? We had arrived at 12:30 and the place wasn't crowded at all. There was a large group that was getting their food and I'm not sure if they were trying to figure out how to bring everything out to them. I've worked as a waitress before and customarily you should let your new table know that you might be tied up but that you would get them help or have the hostess take appetizer orders or at least check on them. Poor poor service."

  • "This was our first new Year's Eve in NOLA and folks told us to go to a Revellion Dinner. These are prix fixe dinners traditionally served on NYE where a chef can really show their skill and help the restaurants handle the massive influx of diners. The food was wonderful and wonderfully presented. Or waiter and his support staff were helpful and affable and after I made a disastrous drink order (i really hated how it tasted), he switched it out for a better one and took the first one off the bill. The regular menu is quite good, too as this was not our first time at the Irish house. All in all, a great establishment with great food, drinks and folks."

  • "Irish House is consistently good--the food is not the typical New Orleans fare found everywhere else, so it's a wonderful place to go when you are looking for something a little different. My favorite dish is the pork cheek braised in cider with potato champ, but sampling my husband's salmon and my son's risotto assured me that almost any dish could be my favorite. My family also enjoys the cheery ambiance and laid back atmosphere."

  • "We love going to the Irish House because of its casual atmosphere and excellent food. We can go dressed "as we are". The service is great. On this occasion, we were celebrating my mother's birthday and the waiter was very patient with all of our family quirks. The restaurant even has a play corner for kids with toys and games to keep them entertained. Will definitely be back."

  • "The Irish House is a great place for Irish food with an upscale twist! My husband and I were happy with the warm and festive ambience on Christmas Eve. A special thanks to our waitress who did a wonderful job and was courteous, knowledgeable and personable. Try the Toffee dessert!"

  • "We have been a number of times, Maybe 4-5 and enjoyed in past. This time was really not as good as usual....Shepard Pie was like cream potatoes and gravy heavily covered in cheese. Not up to quality in past.....Corned beef was bland and tasteless...Very disappointing...We had been warned by previous recent diners that quality had gone down. they were right. We may not go back., A shame because we all enjoyed it so much...."

  • "I booked a table here for 15 for December 20, 2013 to celebrate my graduation from college and will add the Irish House to my recommendation list. The food was amazing, service excellent, and I really just liked the whole vibe of the place. I have eaten at several locations on St. Charles and this was by far my favorite."

  • "We had a great time this past saturday nite; we went to celebrate my husband's birthday and needed a place that was kid friendly but still an adult environment- The Irish house was perfect!! they had an irish jam session that included dancing! a ton of fun for all ages and it just felt like being in Ireland! Food was great too but truthfully i only had the pumpkin soup- it was spectacular! i was just having too much fun dancing with my 5 year old!"

  • "The food choices are mostly upscale, and well-rendered, versions of pub food that we've enjoyed quite a bit. The beer, wine, and especially whiskey choices are great, and the service has been very friendly (though a bit leisurely paced, if that bothers you). The real draw here, though, is the convivial atmosphere; we've had lovely dinners after benefiting from generous happy hour specials, as well as a great brunch and lunch, and each time they've done a great job accommodating medium to large parties. Once, when it was just my wife, baby, and me, our food was very late coming out; the manager came out to apologize and comp-ed us the majority of our meal -- an unnecessary but appreciated generosity. Great place, we'll be back!"

  • "Very good food. Reasonable price for NOLA. Some creativity. I had the slow cooked short ribs on top of hash browns and under an andoui sauce. All topped with a fried egg. Yum! For a starter I had the tomato soup with smoked mussels. Excellent. Pleasant sports pub restaurant environment with plenty of TVs. However, it wasn't so noisy that you couldn't have a conversation. Would definitely go back."

  • "we found The Irish house after a vacation in Scotland and Ireland. we were pining for some of the local foods that we had enjoyed when we were introduced to The Irish House. Excellent menu with all the flavors we experienced on the Emerald Isle. when there don't forget desert the sticky pudding is as authentic as it gets. Bon Appetit !"

  • "Overall enjoyed our experience. We had a Guinness at the bar then went to a table. The spicy slaw on the oyster appetizer was delicious. I had the scallops and my husband had the pork. The scallops were lovely but the entree was tiny for the price. would not order again. Did not cover 1/4 of the plate. Toffee bread pudding was great and we did an Irish whiskey tasting. Was not offered bread, servers never told us their names, someone bussed all of our silver after the appetizer and we had to ask for more. Was good, I just wanted to LOVE it. Too many other great places in the city. Maybe just an off night?"
