A word from The Grill at Leon Springs
Since we began in 1985, our traditional style of cooking has been based on our European philosophy and culture "Fresh From Scratch and From the Heart".
Thierry, Chef and Restaurant Owner, opened the renowned L’Etoile in Alamo Heights in 1985 and in 2007 added a second restaurant- The Grill at Leon Springs. Using French culinary experience and expertise, he creates dishes that originate in France but combine exquisite flavors and ingredients from all over the world.
Our open kitchen showcases the chefs cooking over our unique imported wood fired grill. Our reputation is based on our specialty seafood items, including Halibut, Red Snapper, Scallops and Lobster. We also offer steaks as well as gourmet dishes and Pizza, cooked on our wood fire oven.
We frequently update our menu in order to use seasonal produce.
Join us for lunch or dinner and experience the Texas Hill Country's finest European Cuisine, with an authentic American flair.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was great. We split a wedge and the crock pot; great for two. Even though they were busy and it was Friday, I was able to get a pretty quick reservation via Open Table. Their wine list, although really good, has become super expensive. I think that less than a dozen of their wines are less than $100 and don't expect to spend less than $50 regardless. Their markup is extremely high...a lot more than we expect. They're probably marking their wines up so much because of Tuesday's half price bottle of wine night."

  • "We went on a Monday, so it was not crowded but had a fabulous meal. We had the rainbow trout, and the Asi Tuna Salad and both were excellent. They have a lot of nice salad options for lunch, hard to decide which one to try. Leave room for the Apple Crepia for dessert-wonderful! My son loved all the spurs photos on the wall from the Spurs & The Grill fundraiser for SA Food Bank."

  • "My husband and I attended a company Christmas party at The Grill in 2013 and we promised ourselves we'd be back because we loved the food and the ambiance so much. Sure enough, my husband remembered The Grill when it came time to make our anniversary plans and just as expected, they did not disappoint! Food and atmosphere were as great as we remembered!! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "All of the dishes were great. I wish the wine prices were a little more in line with other restaurants but the food was great m"

  • "We went for the music and were not disappointed. Made for a very enjoyable evening. Try the spicy (very tasty) chicken pizza."

  • "Its hard to beat the experience when the drinks are good, the ambience and staff are super friendly and the food is absolutely delicious. Salmon for the wife, red snapper for me and both were perfect. Terry, the best chef in this area, spent time with us and was a great host as usual. It is always worth the 30 minute drive from Center Point."

  • "I never miss lobster fest at The Grill. I order the plain mesquite grilled lobster and the watermelon salad. Too yummy!"

  • "Three of us went on Father's Day and found that there was a brunch being served; no menu service was available. Our waitstaff indicated the brunch selections were wider than normal due to Father's Day. The salads, vegetables & side dishes were varied, beautiful and really nicely prepared (no question about the French influence/style --really nice). I'm vegetarian, so I was in Heaven. There were just a few protein/meat dishes; my husband said they were okay, not great -- so I surmised not as good as the vegetarian dishes. Came with Champagne (additional charge), albeit we ordered from the wine menu, which was adequate, but nothing special. Kinda crazy...there was no dessert table at the buffet. Atmosphere and service were right up there."

  • "Without a doubt, one of the finest restaurants in the greater San Antonio area. The service is friendly and attentive without being pesky and the food is splendid. Our food was delicious and well presented. This resturant is one of the few places in San Antonio where you can get escargots and they were great. While I prefer them served in the shellls, these are delicious served under a puffed pastry. The grilled lobster is to die for. The wine list is extensive and a bit pricey but the selections are top notch. The desert choices are numerous and all are great. We'll definitely be coming back."

  • "We've dined at the Grill a number of times before and it was always very good. Food and service were both off a little this time. The beef stroganoff with tenderloin was below the usual high standard."

  • "Our recent experience was very average. The duck appetizer we ordered was terrific, however, my entree, a crusted tilapia, was swimming in butter and had almost no taste. My wife ordered a veal, but was brought a lamb shank. The waiter was quite attentive after this mistake, however, my wife had lost her appetite by this time and did not want to wait 15 more minutes for the veal. It is a nice place, but for what you pay you expect a better overall experience."

  • "Food was great. Service attentive. The only issue was that I ordered hot tea, and requested a large pot of water since I drink a lot of tea. The only teapot they have is a one-cup pot. So, as attentive that the server was, he just couldn't keep up with my rate of tea drinking. I had to look for him and ask for refills. "

  • "We had a group of six and we wanted to eat everything on the menu! We all had something different and every bite was amazing. I had the pork in the iron crock and it was the tastiest thing we all tasted. Rich and flavorful broth with pork cooked to fall apart goodness accompanied by numerous veggies theat was braised with the meat for a eye closing omg ahh sound from ur lips. Got to have that again. • "kitchen was slow. our server was good. he tried to do everything in his power. owner apologized and was even trying to help the kitchen so they reacted to the situation but still had a problem to fix in the kitchen. food was worth waiting for, however."

  • "We selected The Grill at Leon Springs as a neighborhood restaurant for celebrating our granddaughter's thirteenth birthday. We are already familiar with the restaurant as we have lived in this area for eighteen years. We were seated in an area that reflected our choices on our Open Table reservation. Two of us selected seafood entries which were very yummy. The side salad I chose to go with my dinner was large enough to share. The greens were fresh and tasty. One member of our group had a beef entree which pleased him very much. Our waiter presented our granddaughter with a tasty desert selection in which he placed a lit candle."

  • "This was our first time and went due to word of mouth. It was loud and noisy, very crowded, food was mediocre, no dessert table which was OK with us but unusual for an Easter brunch. We will not go again on a special occasion. We will go again to try food off the menu and on a week day/night."

  • " Make sure you keep up on the hostess about your reservation - they don't know what they are doing The food is fantastic - the waitress was pleasant and happy - the reservation and seating system was the reason for the two star rating We go to the Grill a lot & reserve thru Open Table. Each time the reservation system stinks - if I have a reservation for 1:30 pm - I should be seated very close to 1:30 pm. I had to ask the desk people twice and were finally seated close to 2 pm - I watched others come in at 1:45 reservation and get seated before us. They always seem like they do not know what they are doing. "

  • "This was my first visit to the Grill at Leon Springs and I was very impressed. The food was excellent, one of the best Ceasar salads I have ever had and my blackened drum sandwich cooked perfectly and the bun was excellent. The service was wonderful - the waiter gave our party the privacy we needed for our working lunch, but we were never in need for lack of attention. Overall it was a great experience and I am very glad I selected the Grill at Leon Springs. Now I just wish I lived closer to the restaurant!"

  • "Another wonderful meal. Brought out-of-town guests for dinner and were not disappointed. The sea bass special was outstanding, and the rest of the entrees were excellent. We all ordered seafood and it was flawlessly prepared. One of our favorite places."

  • "We were seated in a romantic spot and had a great waiter. My wife doesn't want to be rushed - especially on her birthday. We ordered cocktails and a salad. Good start Then we ordered dinner, my wife having the house Beef Stroganoff and me ordering a red snapper filet. The Stroganoff featured house noodles that were called papardelli (about 1" wide) and delicious. The fish served was also hot and delicious with wild rice. For dessert we ordered an apple dish that again was way above expectations Our waiter could not have been better and the evening went off without a hitch."

  • "After calling four times to try and get directions (got answering machine, the young lady who answered phone did not know name of exit off of I10) and being hassled by "complimentary" valet parking, we entered a very inviting venue. My tilapia with crab was excellent, lightly battered and topped with just the right amount of butter sauce and large lumps of crab meat. Although the waiter said it came with mashed potatoes (which is why I ordered it instead of the trout), the small quartered round potatoes worked perfectly. My husband's lamb tasted a bit dark and heavy. The asparagus needed more grilling time, and the small portion of hollandaise sauce was thick and almost pure butter, bland and icky. John, our waiter, was very attentive."

  • "Our evening out at The Grill at Leon Springs was pleasant and no disappointment for dinner with our daughter and a friend. Three of us enjoyed fish entrees, and the fourth enjoyed beef medallions. Perhaps the most delectable of these entrees was the crab cakes. The crab cakes were tender and contained abundant crab to make them an entree I would select again. Our only disappointment was the outdoor bar where our two gentlemen wanted to enjoy a cigar and chat. The music was so loud that we could not hear one another without shouting even though we chose the farthest seating from the band."

  • "For food quality, you cannot go wrong at this restaurant. Our table had four dishes (three different fish entrees & one steak). I was amazed at the distinctive, yet appealing mix of flavors with each fish entrée. My favorite was the pecan encrusted Halibut. I choose the New York Strip. I have to say that I have not had a steak of that quality since living in Atlanta or Chicago. I truly could hold it own with those cities' finest steakhouses. We sat in an overflow room. It was nice enough, but not at the level of the other eating areas in the restaurant; however, it was less noisy than the other areas. By comparison, I would rate the main restaurant area 4 stars for ambience, but assign 3 bars for noise level."

  • "Everything about the night was great once we sat down at our table. But when we walked in the hostess stand was busy and the girls working were not friendly. They were rolling their eyes and even forgot to seat someone with a 7:30 reservation. It was 8:10 wen they asked when they would be seated. Frustration happens but don't let you customers see. When you work the hostess position you have to be positive and upbeat and that's where this restaurant could improve, in my opinion."

  • "Need a reservation for this restaurant, Food is outstanding except for the calamari. Although the crispy Calamari was tough, the mouth melting Chilean Sea Bass with potatoes, green beans, green peppers, grapes and brussell sprouts made up for it. It was nice for the Chef to personally move around the dining area to personally say hello to the diners. This is an efficient operation. The whole staff is outstanding! They move like clock work.e"
