Diner Reviews
  • "Took my wife and twin sister here on a Saturday night for a birthday dinner. Absolutely everything we ate was notable and special in some way. Very unique preparation on everything we had. I recommend it! It gets kudos also because Valet service is complimentary. My only minor critique was that we wanted to take just a little food with us when we left, but our server just gave us the container and left it to us to do vice taking the dish back and doing it somewhere else. Thats more of a personal preference, but i'm just noting that."

  • "We were super excited to get a last minute reservation for Easter Brunch. The Pastrami-ed Beet Sandwich was unique and delicious! My boyfriend raved about the Fried Chicken and Biscuits. "

  • "Great brunch spot. Trendy decor. Good variety of dishes. We tried the chicken and biscuits, egg white omelet and the steak frites - all delicious - and the french toast dippers - yummy. Creative variety of drinks. Service was excellent - overall, very enjoyable."

  • "We have had dinner and brunch at The Food Market and both times it was outstanding. The food creative and remarkable. I can not wait to go back for dinner."

  • "appetizers: cream of crab soup and mussels: excellet, more: superlative! Entree: crab cake (cake good but accompaniments disappointing: the broccoli was only steamed and tasted bland and I thought the pasta was not the right side). "

  • "The Food Market is doing something right! The menu is excellent with the perfect mix of something for everyone depending on palate and appetite. The service is always top-notch and we have yet to experience a bad meal. The noise level is high, but it’s clear the owners are working on it by hanging material from the ceiling and artwork on the walls. It’s a great spot for any occasion!"

  • "My husband and I went to The Food Market for dinner on a Thursday expecting a casual food and dining experience. The restuarant was very cool looking inside almost like a New York restuarant atmosphere. The waitress was very nice and the service was great. The menu however was not what we had expected at all. It was mostly fancy dinner selections and very expensive I thought. We ate a hamburger and a sandwich and one glass of wine and the bill was $50.00. Our dinner tasted fine. Would we go back. No.......best part...free valet parking!"

  • "We arrived on a rainy night, seated quickly in the quietest table available. Our waitress was delightful and because the restaurant was fairly slow for a Tuesday night, she engaged in conversation at appropriate times. Food was great - we shared everything, beet strawberry salad beautifully presented, two small plates: fried oysters and fabulous lamb chops with espresso rub perfect amount of spiciness. Scallops over lima bean risotto for entree, so good and perfect to have only two scallops each. We had just enough room for dessert - blondie with caramel ice cream. Snow showers started around 8:00 and we left to find wet snow combined with cherry blossoms. Valet parking perfect for the weather! "

  • "My husband and I finally got reservations for the Food Market after hearing from friends and neighbors how good it was. We were not disappointed! We ordered the truffle french fries as an appetizer and they were delicious! I wish there were more of them, but the quality and taste was top notch. My husband got the special - fried stuffed softshell crab which he said was amazing. I got the scallops with the lima bean risotto (gluten free! - and so were the fries!) I was impressed that the waiter assured me that my meal was labeled gluten free in his order, which I really appreciated. We can't wait to go again and bring friends & family to this great restaurant!"

  • "I loved the food and the atmosphere. I will go again, no doubt."

  • "The food is inspired and executed with simplicity and harmony. The drinks are skewed toward lemon (lemon everything!) and poorly executed, with "muddled" cheap maraschino cherries (this is actually impossible) in overpriced creations. How amazing it would be if the bar matched the kitchen in excellence!"

  • "Our experience at the Food Market was wonderful. The food was DELICIOUS and the service was amazing. Everything was very fairly priced too!"

  • "trendy but friendly in Hampden. Bustling, even at 5:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Lots of innovative combinations as well as great Baltimore stand-bys (soft shell crabs, crab cakes.)"

  • "The Food Market is one of, if not the, best restaurants in the entire Baltimore area. This was my fourth visit, and this time instead of ordering something I had already had, I tried something new (the Mongolian Beef) and was glad I made the choice. This place gets it all right: food, drink, service. You know they care about the customer as soon as you get there. There's a reason the place is full on weeknights!!!"

  • "Hampden has another destination restaurant in the Food Market. Free valet parking smoothss your arrival and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Each course intrigued: soft pretzel with a cheese sauce, iceberg salad and entrees from scallops to Bronzini to sea bass at our table. We discovered kale buds. And we love new veggies! It was a bit pricey, but it could have been what we ordered, drinks, etc. We didn't have dessert and the bill was $120 per couple, including tip.will return for sure."

  • "We made a reservation for Sunday brunch and were seated immediately upon arrival. I ordered the Smokey Bowl with fried eggs because I was a little worried about what "dippy" eggs would be like. I loved everything about the dish, from the presentation to the flavors. Our server was helpful answering questions and extremely friendly. I can't wait to go back to try other dishes."

  • "The Food Market is one of my favorite places in Maryland, I go here every time I'm in Hampden. I've tried a bunch of different dishes and drinks, and everything is delicious. Also, if the chef is there, he'll walk around to all the tables to say hi and thank you for coming (he's got good taste in hats and kicks too). The restaurant itself is easygoing, upscale, and unpretentious (which I love). It's located in the heart of Hampden on 34th street, has lots of cute shops to explore after dinner (if you haven't already, check out Trohv and The Hunting Ground), and has free valet parking which is always a plus. I always recommend TFM to all my friends. Enjoy!"

  • "In a lifetime of bland cream of crab soup, theirs cannot be beat. I had stuffed softshell crab as my entree and it was amazing."

  • "Excellent cocktails, excellent food. Looking at the menu it was very hard to choose what to eat! Each of us was happy with his choices. The servers were helpful and friendly. I think this restaurant's secret is that it doesn't try to do too much. Not too many choices in each food/drink category, and they don't stack the reservations so that you feel rushed about eating and leaving."

  • "A busy morning lead us to The Food Market on a recent Friday. Oh my, cocktails, health bar pancakes, yummy eggs, and peanut butter fudge for dessert. Perfect, thank you."

  • "Our server for dinner was pretty fantastic. Attentive, without being suffocating. Enjoyed all of our small plates. spiCy, Creamy, garliCky, herby, Cheesy, winey shrimp...amazing. As was the salt and pepper tuna, which we thought was going to be kind of boring. Entree, the grilled Bronzini, which we shared, was barely warm and we each found about ten-twelve fish bones in the fillet. Dessert was also noteworthy. Would return again just for the shrimp."

  • "Great food, atmosphere, and drinks. The garlic shrimp and peppered tuna are to die for! The staff was friendly and made our night. Can't wait to come back!"

  • "We have now eaten at Food Market twice and have been delighted with both meals. The food is interesting and well-prepared, some of it inventive, and yet it isn't so exotic that my twelve year-old won't enjoy dinner, too. For instance, they make a soft pretzel appetizer with a cheese fondu that is really scrumptious and approachable, but they also offer more unusual appetizers for the more adventurous. Food Market deserves more attention than it has gotten on the Baltimore food scene because it is definitely one of the better choices in the city and the price point is fair for the quality and experience you are getting. This scene is crowded, even a bit loud, and energetic, so it might not be for everyone."

  • "As always the food was both delicious and imaginative. However, by about 7PM on a weeknight the noise level became too loud for quiet conversation. The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive."

  • "The food was excellent all the way around. Every bite was fantastic be it the appetizer, entree or desert. Believe me, I had all three and some of my friend's. Our waitress, Brittany, was super friendly and very familiar with the menu. The tables are a little close together, but we had a great time with our neighbor who was a regular and have us good pointers. Can't wait to eat here again."

  • "I had heard a number of positive recommendations for this neighborhood gem ... and they were all correct! What a great restaurant! My only regret is taking so long to finally get there. The appetizers - lobster fingers and ahi tuna - were outstanding. I enjoyed the beet salad (which could have used a little more salad dressing) and the excellent scallops. Others raved about the chicken with mushrooms and the sea bass ... I tasted them and had to agree. I'll be back - and soon!"

  • "We ordered a wide range of items, and were generally pleased across the board, but there were some lowlights. The street tacos seemed like a dish one could execute in the home: nothing stood out. The same could not be said for the lobster fingers (a light batter and fried nearly perfectly). The lowly preztels were soft and tasty, and the beer-cheese fondue sauce was a low-brow treat. The steak-frites were not notable, for either reasons good nor bad. The rack of lamb was well cooked, but the chops themselves were small: four ribs, with small heads. Overall, a nice meal but clearly some winners and losers on the menu. We would return for the reasonable price, excellent service, and food highlights."

  • "We had a wonderful brunch experience at Food Market and would return in a heartbeat. The food is absolutely delicious and they let us linger without rushing us, which we appreciated since we were all from out of town and congregating in Baltimore to catch up. The small bites are absolutely delicious and next time I go, I plan on ordering two of everything."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here due to several friends and co-workers recommending the Food Market to us. Sometimes we have difficulties due to I being a vegetarian and he a meat lover, however we both had several choices from the menu. The drink list was wonderful, our server was fantastic, and the food was amazing. Living in Hampden we have tired of the usual haunts, but now we have a new place not only for dinner, but a spot to grab some snacks and a drink at the bar some evening. I was also pleased to find a location that offers a Saturday brunch. We will be back."

  • "We've dined here several times and the food has never disappointed. Service was very attentive. We'll definitley continue to frequent. My one criticism would be the closeness of the tables and that at least four are outside the service entrance and the bathrooms. Many diners, including us, chose to wait for the next available table-even with a reservation-rather than sit at one of those tables. Building privacy walls could solve this problem."
