Diner Reviews
  • "Went to Flying Fig for apps, drinks and dessert. Very good beer and wine by the glass choices. Our server Ray was awesome. Food choices were excellence. We loved the calamari special. We were seated in the room in the back to the right. Not much ambience and it was very warm because it was close to the kitchen. The butterscotch pudding dessert was good but the olive oil cake was bland and too dense. A great option in the West 25th area and we will definitely be back!"

  • "It has been years since I've been to The Flying Fig, and I wonder what took me so long. The food is exceptional and well prepared. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The charcuterie plate was a great start."

  • "Nowhere to stand while awaiting reserved table. Dirty floor. Coffee not brewed to serve timely. One of four entrees came ~20 minutes before remaining entrees. Remaining entrees (grilled eggplant sandwiches) ice cold - as if bread had just been removed from the freezer. Indifferent service. Could not get out of there fast enough and will not go back."

  • "We have season theatre tickets so each month we try a new restaurant before the show. The Flying Fig did not disappoint. I made a reservation for 5 ppl but then had to up it to 7 when another couple wanted to join last minute. It's a small restaurant but because we had to dine early, they graciously accommodated us. The appetizers were great! I highly recommend the bacon wrapped dates and the lettuce wraps. Most of us each ordered a different entree and they were all fabulous but those who got the burger raved about it. My salmon was very good and the portion size was large. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "My wife and I have discover brunch at Flying Fig on either Saturday or Sunday. I have a special favorite - french toast and bacon - the best I have ever tasted. But- alas - on Saturday it was not on the menu. I was devastated. A warm egg sandwich is just not the same."

  • "Food good, different menu options. Huevos rancheros eggs overdone. Service good. Busy place. Pleasant atmosphere. Food a little slow coming out of the kitchen. Flavors great. Would definitely return."

  • "Everything about this was wonderful. The atmosphere/decor was tasteful, and the service was attentive and friendly. But of course, I go to a restaurant for the food, and it was glorious. As a family with high expectations of food claiming to be gourmet, we were all very impressed and immediately recommended it to several friends."

  • "Staff was friendly and accommodating. Service was timely and food was interesting and different. A great spot to try for brunch."

  • "Hadn't been to the Fig in awhile after a previous service disaster and was disappointed again. Service was so-so; waitress disappeared for long periods of time. Long wait between order and arrival of drinks and food. The Sazarac highball was awful. No bread served. The menu was underwhelming. Went for the risotto special that turned out way too salty to taste anything else in the dish, however the riso was al dente. The miso-glazed salmon with jasmine on the menu and the sea bass with polenta special were both good; cooked properly and tasty. Food was good, but nothing special."

  • "First time we were there in January it was top-notch... great server, great food, fun ambiance. We went back in March and it took 25 minutes just to get a waiter assigned to our table (we had a reservation and arrived on time). Good food but we also didn't like the menu as much as during the previous visit. That said, it is still definitely worth going to, but I'd recommend not going during peak hours as it was too crowded, loud, and they obviously couldn't handle/ manage getting a waitperson to us in a decent amount of time."

  • "We went to the Flying Fig to celebrate my husband's birthday with our teenage daughters. The ambience and service are great but the food is outstanding! The menu is not too long, so I know the items are fresh. The specials were so delicious and the portions were just right. We'll be back!"

  • "The evening was a disappointment. The food was mediocre and it wa so noisy we could not hear each other. This used to be a favorite but no longer. We will not be back."

  • "We were in town for the weekend from Columbus, and selected The Flying Fig for our Valentine's Dinner date. My date ordered the quinoa stuffed eggplant, at the enthusiastic and unsolicited recommendation of the next table, and he was not disappointed. Delicious! And neither of us are vegetarians. I had a lamb chop special with black rice risotto, and it was wonderful! We enjoyed great wine and shared a chocolate dessert at the end. Perfect in every way, including the service. I've been telling Columbus friends that Flying Fig is the Alana's of Cleveland."

  • "One of the most creative and exciting menus in town. If you want to make your taste buds dance, this is the place, and the service is as outstanding as the food."

  • "Friendly prompt service. Brunch selections were served promply, hot, unique flavors and delicious!"

  • "Food and service were simply outstanding. The staff were incredibly attentive, and all shared in the responsibility for keeping us well-attended to. There was one table, and one person in particular, where enough noise was generated as to being distracting. But otherwise, the evening was just right!"

  • "We enjoyed ourselves. The food was good... Just wish they allowed substitutions. I don't eat meat and most of the items had meat. The Bloody Mary was nice and spicy... The funny thing is that the flatware is light weight... I can't imagine eating more than breakfast with the knife provided. That said, overall, meal was good..."

  • "I enjoy visiting Repurposed Cleveland storefronts, particularly in Ohio City/market district. I grew up traveling to the market every Friday. We'd park at A &P (save a lot space), shop there, then walk to the market, winding through Fries and Schuele or down market street. I now love seeing these beautiful buildings repurposed. The Flying Fig Has done an exceptional job, both in building and in the restaurant. I like groupon because it's a safe way to Visit new ( to us) places. FF exceeded my expectations. June and the rest of the serving crew were terrific, Attentive and professional. We had Huevos ranchero and the hot cakes. The Food was very flavorful. The addition of cocktails was fun...loved the fresh squeezed grapefruit/vodka."

  • "Prior to going to the Cleveland state basketball game we stopped for dinner and man was it a slam dunk. My son had the sea food pasta and loved every bite of it, we all had great tasting food. We were in a bit of a hurry and the staff did a great job getting us in and out so we would not be late. Great fresh food !"

  • "Arguably one of the best brunches in town. Great food and a personable sever. The space looked like it could use a bit of upkeep; it looked a bit dirty and faded. The dying, brown daisy on our table didn't help. While the food is so good I will be back, a little attention to aesthetic would take the experience to the next level."

  • "Both food & cocktails were great; definitely going into the Top 5 rotation!"

  • "The last time we dined at the Flying Fig was about two years ago and we were completely blown away by the quality of the food; this last visit was a little underwhelming. While the appetizers were very good, the entrees disappointed: one diner in our group had to send back a meat entree as it was underdone and my husband said his pasta dish was cold in parts. A shared dessert was just OK. I'm a little torn on whether we would come back for a third time, as I feel we've had completely dichotomous dining experiences. It's not overly convenient for us to dine downtown, and there are a lot of other "farm to table" type places in the greater CLE area that we would probably try ahead of the FF."

  • "We haven't been to the Flying Fig in a couple of years so thought it would be a great place to celebrate a birthday. Our waiter was nice but unfortunately had too many tables to serve. The tempura green beans appetizer was extremely oily and the stuffed dates were tasty. We tried four different entrees and everyone thought theirs was good but certainly not outstanding. A bit overpriced for the experience. The food was really good the last time we were there but we were totally underwhelmed!"

  • "LOVED our meals...all four of us! Enjoyed an ala carte brunch instead of a traditional buffet. We had plenty of food without feeling gross afterward. We each had a couple of delicious cocktails AND we shared desserts. The dark choc chip cookie with sea salt...still dreaming about it! I highly recommend the croque Madame, but the Migas and egg salad sandwich looked divine as well and got rave reviews by the others I was with. You should eat here...immediately and often!"

  • "We loved the food, and really appreciated the selection of grass-fed meat. As someone who tries to do grass-fed meat and organic produce, finding an accommodating spot out is tough. I certainly make compromises on that in order to still eat out, but Flying Fig makes it such that I have to compromise less. We'll be back, for certain!"

  • "The Flying Fig is our favorite Cleveland restaurant. Recently enjoyed a quiet early dinner on a Saturday evening prior to heading to Severance Hall for a concert. Very relaxing and a great way to begin our evening. Nice ambiance, good service, and well-prepared and flavorful food. Portions generous. We ordered a beef dish (something like a pot roast) and the vegetarian quinoa-stuffed-squash entrees. Also had the beet salad which was wonderful. Sipped on a nice pinot noir. Shared salty caramel/butterscotch boudin (pudding) for dessert, which was quite rich and delicious. Overall, a great dinner and evening. P.S. Appreciate the chef's willingness to modify recipes for our low sodium request."

  • "The food was great and the overall experience was nice. I was kind of disappointed by the lack of seafood on the menu. The menu was slightly different than one online. I don't eat meat, and so i was stuck eating appetizers for dinner."

  • "I had heard great things about the Flying Fig and now I fully appreciate why. The service is attentive, friendly, & educational, but it is the food that blows you away. With innovative preparation styles, masterful flavor pairings, and beautiful presentation, I can honestly say that every bite was truly delightful. I can't wait to come back when I'm not pregnant to sample some of the delicious looking selection of old-fashioned cocktails with wicked modern twists, or to enjoy some of the best beers or wines I've seen available in Cleveland today. The Flying Fig is a smaller restaurant, but it is big on flavor and style."

  • "First things first, don't go here if you're a bargain eater. With that said, the food is so good I'd gladly go again and again. The menu is totally original, like no restaurant you've been too. It's packed full of flavor without all the added sugar and junk that cheaper places use to ad flavor. The menu items include a lot of unusual foods but they will blow you away with the flavor. I had the turnip soup and it rocked."
