Diner Reviews
  • "This was not our first time at Farmhouse. This time, however, was about a million times louder than the last. Our waitress could barely hear us when we ordered. I know this was due to a rediculously loud large party, but the acoustics in the room don't help. Let me also say that due to a few large parties it took an hour and a half for us to get our food. Luckily we had plenty to talk about and an appetizer which held us over. Lastly, my husband had to send his porkchop back bc it was dry. Now after all that I will say we would still go back. The chef not only sent out a delicious new plate quickly, he also comped my husband's meal and gave us a free dessert. And, in the end all of our food was delicious!"

  • "The menu choices were new to me and very interesting. I had a cut of beef that was wonderful. Still can't figure what cut it was. Absolutely delicious. I liked the list of food sources on the chalk board. Local is good!!!"

  • "We've visited The Farmhouse several times before and we're disappointed with this trip either. The Hangar Steak which just sounds like a piece of beef is far from that. It is the most tender, flavorful meat that I've had in a long time - my last visit, probably! It was so delicious that actually my husband ordered it, too! My adventurous son ordered the Rabbit Sausage and it was also delicious! I would have gladly had that, too. We enjoy the Farm to Table aspect of this restaurant, the neighborhood and the staff. This restaurant has everything to allow you to enjoy visiting alongside a great array of tasty adult beverages and tastings. We look forward to our next visit!"

  • "Great ambiance and service. Being a farm to table type restaurant you expect some creativity in the menu and this place did not disappoint. I like to try the dish as planned by the chef so I don't make changes, I had the pork chop with cherry chutney and a sweet potato and brussel sprout combination of some kind. It was very tasty however, I'm not a big fan of brussel sprouts. The dish as a whole was very tasty and I ate as much of the side as I could. Very different and fun to try something new. Loved the decor, very friendly and helpful staff. There was only one beef selection on the menu that we could find, I had the pork because all the others at my table ordered the hangers (beef)."

  • "Had Sunday brunch at Farmhouse with my husband and son (age 8). I had the chicken hash topped with duck eggs, which was excellent in conception and almost excellent in execution. The mixture in the hash was fabulous--chicken breast, brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, some other stuff--and the duck eggs were over-soft to perfection. The whole duck egg thing is great. But the hash was a bit salty. The service was excellent: highly efficient, attentive, and pleasant. The servers really hauled *** without making us feel rushed. My son was the only kid in there, and he found the crepe-like chocolate chip pancakes somewhat challenging. It might be good for business to introduce some more kid-friendly items on the menu. Awesome place, THANKS!"

  • "This was our first brunch at the Farmhouse and we'll be back. Great food and served by one of the best wait staff ever. Good job!"

  • "We were in Kansas City only for one night and were thrilled to end up here instead of in the other areas of town. It was too chilly to eat outside, but it would have been a great place to do so --- the streets surrounding were quiet ---- no car pollution or loud traffic. The wait staff was 5 star and the food fresh and beautifully presented. The amount served was satisfying, not huge or disappointingly sparse. The only reason I didn't give the food a 5 was because, as a vegetarian, I would have liked a few more options. Ambience was quite good, but if you want an intimate, very romantic evening, this is a 4, not 5."

  • "We met at the Farmhouse on Sunday, March 23 with no expectations - only rumors. Our waiter was charming and informative and brought us water while we waited for everyone to arrive. He brought coffee - which is served from a French press and delish. Two ordered the Goose egg- which is a gigantic egg from no less than an Ooh Aah bird (look up the joke) served sunny side up over layers of beet aioli - creamy sauce with a delicate flavor, braised kale, and potato cakes. One order the quiche - spinach served with skillet potatoes and all ordered bacon cheddar biscuits - two huge yummy and fluffy biscuits with butter and jam. Everyone was full and sated. All declared our comeback soon."

  • "Saturday was our 1st time to The Farmhouse, but it won't be our last. Fresh ingredients provided by local farmers. Great food & service. We loved that this place welcomed couples & families. A comfortable, eclectic atmosphere."

  • "I find it interesting to dine here because I never know what I'll find on the menu. No matter what I've ordered it has been well prepared and flavorful."

  • "We've been to The Farmhouse twice now and both times were a wonderufl experience. The food was scrumptious, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the servicewas impeccable! The server remebered us from the monh before- he even remembered the cocktail that my husband ordered the last time and also the dessert we shared. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for locally grown, amazingly delicious food!"

  • "You can't beat great food made from locally-sourced ingredients! I can't get enough of Chef Foust's creations. I took the whole family here for lunch, and found something for everyone. That's a tall order for us since my daughter and I are vegetarian, my wife is gluten and dairy free, and my son has a very limited palate! It's a bit of a trip for us, but we'll be back!"

  • "Farmhouse is a fun mix if you're either looking for a classy brunch spot or a spot to cure your hangover. Tasty mimosas adorn most tables... along with the delicious coffee served from a french press. Water and Bloody Mary's are served in mason jars. The food is fabulous. The restaurant is cozy and decorated in a modern, but local way. Make reservations unless you want to wait. Everything I've had has been absolutely delicious!"

  • "The wine, coffee (served in a French press) and dessert (rum cake with vanilla ice cream) were fabulous. The cheese plate was delicious. The entrees were ok. I had the vegan entree and my dining partner had the hanger steak (it didn't have much flavor) and the brussel sprout salad. The vegan entree was over-salted, and it contained too much liquid. I would come here again, but will try a different entree."

  • "I love Open Table. At the last minute I needed to find a place for 9 people to eat together - early - prior to an event. Within minutes I found The Farmhouse, where most of us had never eaten before, made our reservation, shared the news and made our plans. That night we easily found our meeting spot and were being seated and looking at an amazing menu. The cocktails were imaginative and delicious. Most of us had the Hangar Steak Frite and all of us were blown away by the amount and the tenderness and the flavor. Not to mention the fries. Yum. As a matter of fact, I want to go back already for the same meal, it was that delicious. Ingenious curried asparagus soup, braised buffalo roast that melted in the mouth. Then, Rum Cake! GO!"

  • "Went here with my mom for a birthday dinner. Vegetable special of the day was delicious (albeit salty) and turnover with raisins light and delicious. GREAT service, extremely friendly staff, I'm excited to go back in the spring when more vegetables are in season."

  • "The Farmhouse is a great spot if you're looking for a unique menu in a fun, lively environment. The patio seating in the warm months is ample and they often have live music that fits the ambiance and doesn't drown out your conversation. The staff fits the River Market personality perfectly and the exposed brick interior and dark wood reminds you that you're in a 100+ year old building. They have amazing cocktails and a fun bar if you're just looking for a quick snack and beverage rather than a full meal. I'm glad The Farmhouse is a part of my neighborhood!"

  • "I was looking forward to trying this restaurant but was quite disappointed. The service was good and the idea of using locally sourced foods, exciting; but, the dish I had was sour and had way too much curry. I tried some of my companions' food and they all had bizarre spice profiles. Too bad..."

  • "I visited the farmhouse for my 26th birthday with 5 guests. They had a table set up for us, with no wait. The rest of my family was an hour late!!! They didn't even mention it or try to rush us or anything. We had excellent food, although I am vegan they were happy to cater to that. There was a drink pairing for any dish, and it was scrumptious. This wasn't my first time there, and we will definitely be back :)"

  • "We loved The Farmhouse. The food was original, expertly prepared, and generous. Waitstaff was cool, urban, and really knew their stuff. It feels like a great neighborhood hangout; half the people who came in seemed to know the staff personally, giving the place a very friendly vibe. The wonderful old building is a great setting - brick walls, tall ceilings, large picture windows onto a great old street filled with loft buildings. We receommend The Farmhouse without reservation."

  • "The Farm House is located in one of the historic buildings in the River Market area. The Malbec was wonderful. The dinning area was very loud, making it tough to converse. To be expected. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The salads arrived looking fresh and inviting. Mine was wonderful (Spinach salad), my brother's on the other hand was kinda bland. He ordered the Farmers' Salad. We both ordered the KC Strips. They were both cooked to perfection. But tough. The potatoes served alongside were awesome! The Server brought a Rum Cake for dessert that was exceptional! Overall - the experience was good. We will go back. Maybe just order a different entree!"

  • "Great food. Great service. Host is a little dour. A little noisy, but that's what happens when a place is busy. Despite the fact that the place was full of diners, the service did not suffer."

  • "We enjoyed our first visit to The Farmhouse. We enjoyed a laid-back atmosphere where you could dress up or be somewhat casual and still feel comfortable. The food was great with a larger than expected portion size (we didn't save room for dessert)."

  • "The Farmhouse is always a great choice for an excellent Brunch or Lunch. Since they're a farm-to-table restaurant, the menu is adjusted constantly. Unlike some restaurants we revisit, this constant change spices things up as you revisit Farmhouse over and over to try new menu items or changes to old ones."

  • "Our waitress was very sweet, you know you're at the farmhouse when you're discussing raising chickens. I really enjoy going to the farmhouse, good food and good ambience. The particular dish I ordered this time wasn't what I expected , but it was still good and very much worth the price. The rum cake was awesome !!!!"

  • "I didn't really know what to expect when going into this place. The food, was different then most places I have eaten. They have a very limited menu, which is to be expected from any restaurant that servers locally obtained foods only. But it included some unusual things such as rabbit. They have not sweeteners for their Tea and unless you are looking to have a lot to drink with your food, this probably isn't a place for you to eat. Most people I observed while eating at this pricey restaurant were drinking anywhere from 2 - 4 bottles of wine with their meal, per couple, I am not sure if they were doing this to make the food taste better."

  • "We waited well over an hour to get our food. The slow service actually made us late for a charity event. This is the second time that we have had problems with out food. It is sad as the food is excellent when it finally makes it out."
