Diner Reviews
  • "So glad we had a reservation as the restaurant turned away walk-ins. Food was great! Get the eggs benedict or the french toast. Decor was very nice with its exposed brick walls. Our waitress was very accommodating and made sure everything was good for us. The Farmhouse was the perfect place for a great brunch after shopping at the City Market, but make sure you have a reservation."

  • "My husband and I like Farmhouse. In the past we have celebrated our birthdays and anniversary. This weekend our good friend wanted to take us out for dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. My husband gladly chose to go to the Farmhouse. But we were seated near the bar and did not have a good time because it was so loud that we couldn't even hear each other. The loud noise is not energetic at all. I was really looking forward to have a nice time with our friend (who we don't see often) and celebrate my husband's birthday but we ended up feeling annoyed with the noise. I really wanted to leave before we order but decided to stay for my husband and our friend. It will take me some time to want to go back there."

  • "This was our second visit to The Farmhouse. The food is fantastic - really, some of the best I've ever had - both times! Everything is locally grown, and the dishes are fun and flavorful. Try the cocktails, too, they are made with fresh juices and are also creative. Delicious! The service this time was wonderful. I am telling everyone I know to try this place!"

  • "When I made the reservation I specifically requested a high chair as there were 6 adults and 1 baby. When we got seated I again asked for a high chair. I was told to ask the server so I would get it quicker. I'm not sure what that meant, but I asked the server as soon as she came over for drink orders. When she came back with drinks I asked again. When she came back to take food oders I asked again. We never got the high chair. Instead, the adults took turns holding the baby so his parents could eat their food. On top of never getting the high chair, we were never checked on; drinks went unfilled and the possibility of us ordering more food or drinks went away. The sad part is that the food was pretty good; but not worth the poor service."

  • "I went Saturday morning, had reservations and sat outside. I ordered an Irish coffee and Italian hash, my friend had an Irish coffee and corned beef hash. The food was excellent! I received my bill and it totaled $110! I went inside the restaurant and told them the food was good, but not that good! The gave me a new bill, and it included my friend's Irish coffee, which she had already paid for. They then corrected that bill, and gave me a small discount for my inconvenience. I looked at my bank account online, and have two pending amounts to the Farmhouse, one for my bill, and one for twice my bill. I'm hoping this pending amount goes away, otherwise I'm going to have to try to get my money back. I would pay my next bill with cash"

  • "Food was too expensive for quality. Too noisy! Won't go there again."

  • "Had dinner on the patio with a friend, food was great as was the service. We sat for a couple of hours and talked, the waitress checked on us but let us sit as long as we wanted. It was a great night to sit outside, felt more like we were at a home than a restaurant."

  • "Love this place for brunch before heading to the River Market area. Food is so fresh and the coffee is the BEST!!"

  • "Treated my mom to a breakfast at the Farmhouse for our first time dining there. We made a 9:00 am reservation (recommended) which is when they open on Saturdays. There were four other groups waiting to get in along with us, some had reservations, others didn't. We were all greeted by a friendly host and seated quickly. There are a lot of choices on the the menu that sound delicious. I ordered the Earl of Biscuit which was amazing, very rich and delicious. My mom ordered the Lord Kenzo and very much enjoyed her choice as well. The dishes do not come with any sides, but the portions are generous. We could've easily split one plate and felt satisfied. We are already planning to make it back again soon for another breakfast or lunch!"

  • "Wanted a local, fresh place to take an out of town guest. The farm house was over and above my expectations! The food was gourmet quality and the ingredients were high quality! The service was friendly, relaxed, informative, and supportive. The hand crafted drinks were astonishingly unique and strong. I highly recommend the River Smash and the prosciutto wrapped chicken if available. I look forward to being able to return even if only for a lunch time imbibe. Very pleased!"

  • "Short ribs and turnip masher and scallops were delicious. Nice beer selection."

  • "Nice atmosphere, food wasn't bad. What I didn't like were the flies, but they are present on farms so I guess farm to table includes flies here. Go with a bottle of red wine which was much better than the super hot red wine by the glass. 2 ice cubes melted immediately upon contact. Hot wine is a huge pet peeve of mine. Nice cheese platter, nice deviled eggs. Unmemorable scallop entree special."

  • "Service was great and the food was amazing. We had a group of 5 that each had a different entree, wine, desserts. It was all excellent! What a neighborhood gem."

  • "This restaurant never fails to impress. Great food, both tastefully presented and tastily prepared. Fresh, local ingredients are the best."

  • "Wow! We were a party of six and we got to taste just about every dish on the brunch menu. Food was outstanding. One small suggestion, the Quiche served with wilted spinach, was placed directly in the spinach causing the crust to get a little soggy. The star was the veggie hash with potatoes, tomatoes, and kale."

  • "Best place around for local organic deliciousness at a reasonable price. Brunch for 2 adults & 2 kids cost about $40, and we left stuffed."

  • "We have eaten Sunday brunch at the Farmhouse the past 2 weekends in a row. The food is delicious and locally sourced. They have lots of special cocktails- I got a bourbon and thyme creation that was great! The servers are friendly and polite and the food came out in good time. The only drawback is the male host. He gives off a "too cool" vibe and is a bit rude particularly to people who don't have a reservation. So brace yourself for the chilly entry and then enjoy a delicious meal!"

  • "With one of the best patios in KC, Farmhouse always shines but is especially good in summer. The farm fresh and original food goes great in the shady outdoor patio. The Italian hash special on Saturday was one of the best things I have ever eaten."

  • "the food was excellent - creative and interesting mix of ingedients! The fried green tomatoes were some of the best I have eaten. And who would have thought to pair cantaloupe with zucchini for a fabulous tasting salad? I have enjoyed this restaurant 4 times now and have never been disappointed. Keep up the good work! On the down side the noise level is pretty high inside,so if you want to visit outside dining is quieter."

  • "Pondering options for a Saturday night, Farmhouse was an easy pick when surveying our options. A favorite, based on menu, quality, service and local charm. Hanger steak is a consistent favorite but short ribs and seafood scallop dish of the day was superb. Will go back!"

  • "We booked the Chef's room for our anniversary and had dinner there with another couple. The meal among the top 5 we have had in KC with superb service at very reasonable price. The chef prepared a 6 course tasting menu that was absolutely wonderful and the hostess and server treated us as honored guests. We loved it so much we returned the next week for dinner again - which was equally as good. The Farmhouse is an excellent place to dine!!!!"

  • "Food was terrible - tart/bitter. Turnip soup - couldnt' taste the turnips - too much tart spice. Deviled eggs so tart we couldn't eat them. Cole slaw same way. French fries were mostly bottom of the fried oil basket. Extremely disappointed & when we told the waiter, he offered no recourse."

  • "I brought my 80 yr old mom here for her birthday and it was both of our first times here. Basically I had several people tell me there is a cake or a toast involved if it is someone's bd. Nothing was offered. Our Server Sonny also mentioned he would make our visit special. Nothing special was done. In fact the service seemed somewhat slow and we had to ask for things and wait. I finally asked if there was something for bd's and he brought my mom 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream. Sort of a disappointment from what it seemed I was promised by the matre d on Sunday that I stopped in and talked with as well as another one on the telephone promising the same thing."

  • "They were somewhat busy and we only had a party of four. It seemed like our food must have set in the kitchen a while as it was cold. The server was curt but it was quaint and a good location so we will give them another try."

  • "I made reservations for 6 on patio. We were seated indoors. Water was initially brought to the table. It was Luke warm with no ice. Once order was taken it took 35 min for the food to be delivered. Then only parts of the order. I requested butter for the flat dried out pancakes . I waited for the butter the rest of the party was half done with the meal when upon second request the butter was brought to the table. We typically don't ask for anything extra but warm water and dried out pancakes?? Really ?? It was Saturday morning 11:00 am brunch . Then had to have another waiter being the check after the waitress was asked for it twice and waiting 15 min for it. Each time for the items that were forgotten get excuse was oh I forgot" poor"

  • "Visited the Farmhouse on successive days, first for brunch on Sunday then for a business lunch on Monday. Sunday was very busy yet the staff was prepared. Omelet special was great and our grandkids each enjoyed their meals which often can be a challenge. Monday the restaurant had only a few tables occupied at noon, yet the staff seem surprised that anyone was there. Service was slow and not very attentive. The corned beef sandwich special sounded appealing but turned out to be a soggy, over spiced disappointment."

  • "We were seated immediately, but had to go inside to ask for water and waiter after sitting unattended for 15 minutes. After that, the service and food were good. Cheese plate appetizer was fantastic. Duck ravioli was above-average, and the shortrib was delicious. Both cocktails we ordered were good. The waiter removed the cheese plate from our bill on account of the wait. If the weather allows it, sit on the patio. It's one of the best I've visited in KC."

  • "Enjoyed the atmoshpere of this quaint restaurant in the River Market. There were three in our party and everyone's food was very good except my pancetta wrapped chicken was quite dry. The waiter noticed I could not cut it with the knife provided, so he brought me a steak knife and I still had a hard time cutting it. I would not recommend this dish, but everything else was great. I would definitely dine here again."

  • "The Farmhouse was my husband's pick for his birthday. He loves the Hanger steak and rum cake! We love the atmosphere, food and the people but most of all, we choose to eat at restaurants who source from local farmers. We are grateful The Farmhouse is one of those places."

  • "Tried this for the first time at lunch. I was meeting a friend and the waitress was great about giving us time to catch up. Had the Pesto Chicken Sandwich with fries. Sandwich was tasty but had too much aioli. Next time I would ask for it on the side. Fries were really good, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Great interior-they let the building do the talking. I would like to go there again. "

  • "We tried a handful of things. The fried green tomatoes were tasty, both the tomato and asparagus cream soups were delicious. The beet salad was okay, but you'll have to really like beets because it was a ton of beets and not much else. We split the only vegetarian entree and it was good but nothing spectacular. I would definitely dine there again."

  • "We really enjoyed our Sunday brunch but they were out of many of the specials. Our server gave us our drinks for free because they were out of everything we ordered. Food was delicious. My only complaint is that there weren't many brunch options to start with then they ran out of a few options as well."
