Diner Reviews
  • "Overall the food was very good. Perhaps our expectation were too high or unrealistic."

  • "gorgeous food and great service in a awesome location. The rolled pork belly was INSANELY good and the panna cotta was one of the best. Totally worth checking out!"

  • "Had the flatbread as a starter and had entree envy seeing the prosciutto! The paccheri was delicious and reminded me exactly how my Silician grandmother's red sauce. Great interior and will definitely go again!"

  • "The Factory Kitchen is serving the food I love; Italian food with an element of love and not an ounce of pretension. Clear that this is a chef who takes pride in his Italian roots and respects his customers as well as his food."

  • "Inventive menu with lots of fresh choices. Quality ingredients beautifully prepared. Lots to share. Some dishes not seen before. Knowledgable servers. Very fairly priced. Strange wine list. Ideal for bringing your own prized bottle."

  • "A colleague and I went to lunch at The Factory Kitchen, because it received a rave review in Westways. The review was correct - probably some of the best food I have ever had in Los Angeles, with definitely the best service (I used to eat at L'Orangerie when it was still open) I have ever had - "crackerjack" to quote the review. Since it was our first time we deffered to our waiter, Edward, for suggestions and we were not dissapointed. The bartender, once he new my drink preferences, even offered to make his own concoction for me. Great food, great service, and a lot of fun, great casual atmosphere, and with that combination, great fun!"

  • "Great friendly staff, yummy drinks that were slightly different than the usual cocktails. Food was good except for the 25 year old prosciutto that tasted like any ham bought at any store. Desserts were one of the best we have had in awhile accompanied by the perfect cappuccino. We would definitely recommend the restaurant to friends and will be back again. Overall a delightful dinner experience."

  • "Food was disappointing...good, but nothing special. Noise level was painful. Service was rushed. Way too expensive...pasta appetizer $19 ($24 with t/t). Not worth it!"

  • "The Factory Kitchen was one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at, hands down. The food was wonderful and our waitress directed us to the best dining experience ever. Very special restaurant."

  • "Has now demonstrated consistency, from a food and service perspective. Not as noisy, and food was actually better than Bestia - at half the cost."

  • "Love the chef and the food. The manager can loosen up a bit. He's too tense and hard."

  • "Handkerchief pasta with a basil pesto was awesome. Pasta veal ragu was awesome. The handmade pasta, made in house, is chewy fantastic. The Manhattan like cocktail was great. The dessert was yummy. The gelato and sorbet were really, really great. Waiters were helpful and attentive even though the house was packed and noisy from a large party. The place was packed and filled with an energy of a great new energy. The FOOD, the food is why you go. Can't wait to go back."

  • "We were early after a museum visit. We were allowed to have cocktails at the bar b4 going to our table for six. No rush. Our server was very helpful and recommended several dishes to share. Do not miss the handkerchief pasta with almond pesto, it's to die for. Service was impeccable, we'll be back even though we live 30 miles away."

  • "This is my favorite Italian restaurant! Everything is fresh, high quality and perfectly executed."

  • "Our first time was perfect. The neighborhood is in the newer LA Art Village. The restaurant has amazing energy and remained that way during our dinner. We split 3 items, focaccia with cheese, salad with mozzarella, and pasta with pesto. They were all wonderful, hot, and melt in your mouth delicious. We had dinner, but definitely would return for lunch because the menu looks as appealing as dinner. Looking forward to our next adventure at this terrific restaurant."

  • "We had an early dinner before the theatre. The service was right on it, and moved our selections along. Fantactic pasta, loved the baked beets au gratin, and the five spice gelato on top of the croasta was amazing! We will definately be back."

  • "The food is over the top. The flat bread appetizers were to die for."

  • "Heard a lot about the place. Pasta dishes were great, fish (sole) dish was just average. very dry. Liver was okay. Prosciuto and burrata was the best. Noise was a big distraction. Quite pricey for the location. Reservation staff was very professional and accomodating. Will give the place another try."

  • "Our third time there. Twice for lunch and dinner last Saturday. Great food! Service excellent. A must try for all who enjoy Italian food. We love to explore the different areas of LA and the Factory Kitchen is a delight. Close enough to Disney concert hall, etc but not too close so you can experience the different parts of LA."

  • "Terrific food, good service, interesting wine list, loved seeing cooks make pasta, ravioli. Negative: high noise level"

  • "freshest pasta I've tasted in a long time. Flavors were wonderful. Everything else people ordered around me looked good too."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Food was very good. Wine list fairly broad. I had braised veal pasta...very tasty. The mushroom flat bread was delicious. We had chick pea fritters which were sort of average. The menu could benefit from more choices...I would have ordered more starters to share if there were more, and more interesting selections. Overall, very good."

  • " We made our Open Table reservation. The restaurant is listed as $30 average dinner price and it is not. We spent $160 for a bottle of water, a split pasta, three glasses of wine and two mains. It is very noisy and it was difficult to hear each other talk but the waiter was prompt and we ordered a split Handkerchief Pesto Pasta and two mains, one Squab and one Snapper. We ordered some wine by the glass and it was quite good. The pasta was very ordinary and sauce ok. It was not attractively plated and sort of looked like a green slimy thing, but the flavor was good. Their Pesto sauce is clear which means it is strained, I guess. It was OK. Both mains were disappointing, the fish was way too fishy, the squab forgettable."

  • "Home made pasta was the best. Definitely would go back and order all the other pasta dishes. Cramp dining and loud but worth it for the food."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "the food is very good and consistent. the sauteed snapper was excellent as was the pappardelle. The canoli were stellar."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "All of the dishes were good and some were excellent. The casonzei were outstanding, the peperu and the fish were good. The steamed kale and chard was nothing special. The canolis are probably the best I've ever had. Service was quite fine, wine was good. My only problem with the place is the prices. It's just not a great value. We shared one appetizer, one pasta, one entree, one veggie side, one dessert and one glass of wine. Total was $120 including tip. $60 each is steep for a shared meal. If they knocked 10% - 15% off all the pricing (except the dessert, that was worth it) I'd plan to go back regularly. As it is, it's probably one and done for us, unless we happen to find ourselves in the neighborhood again."

  • "A really great find in the AD -- with parking! Excellent pastas and great lunch options for light eaters also."
    Dined on 4/23/2014
  • "The food at Factory Kitchen is exceptional. The handkerchief pasta may just be the best pasta I've ever tasted; the focaccina was airy and sumptuous. Overall the service was very good, although the tables are close together and the wait staff had to keep reaching across people at the table. The only negative for us was the thunderous noise level. I would definitely go back on a week night in the hopes that it's not so crowded and therefore quieter. It would be worth it, because I cannot stop thinking about the handkerchief pasta..."

  • "At first I was worried about this location near Union Station, in the past there have been a lot of homeless people lurking but it is revitalizing and the addition of this restaurant in the area is sure to bring a lot of trendiness in the near future. The restaurant itself is smaller than I imagined and extremely loud. It was a little like going to a concert. Packed with people and a constant loud din so if this is not your idea of fun, don't go on a Saturday night. Don't go if you're trying to get to know someone because you'll be shouting and won't hear the answers. Having said that, the service is impecable and the food, OMG, it's flawless. Try the procuitto to start and I had a pasta dish with rabbit that made me weak in the knees."

  • "This newcomer far exceeds expectations for fabulous "nouvelle" Italian that keeps you wanting to order more...great sharing and great service paired with exceptional nuances that are not to be compared to newcomers such as Bestia....more attention to detail here!"

  • "Great food with a number of choices; not just pasta and 1 or 2 other dishes. The food is creative and well crafted. Even a simple side dish of cippolini was done with flavor and flare. My only drawback was the noise. The dining room was way too loud. I understand the energy created by a din but this was way past that noise level. If yiu are looking for romantic, go elsewhere. If you are looking for good food, check this one out."

  • "Word of mouth reviews of a good experience were rewarded with the same. I hope the innovation of tasty food, service and quality remain. Loved the original flatbread!"

  • "The handkerchief pasta with almond basil pesto was outstanding!! Great wine list and fun setting. Like many LA restaurants though-very noisy."

  • "Best meal I have had all year in LA - loved the vibe - this is a real treasure."

  • "I really love the handkerchief pasta. So fresh and light. The beets are great. The foccaccino is fantastic- especially the mushroom."

  • "The setting in an old factory near downtown is a bit out of the way, but worth the drive. The restaurant was packed on a Monday night and for good reason. The food is delicious. The appetizers and salads were great, but the pastas were the stars. Absolutely delicious."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "It started out great until we sensed that our server took it personally when we advised that the modenesi was under cooked and was rather hard. We could see his attitude changed after that. Strange! Not all the dishes were good so don't have high expectation. The mandilli do seta was good. The prosciutto - parma prosciutto 24 months, lightly fried sage dough, stracciatella was delish."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "This was our second visit to this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The unique setting in the emerging Arts District downtown make it a happening spot but its the great food and service that make it an outstanding restaurant. The staff is passionate about their food and it shows."

  • "We (3) began with wine & the Smoke & Honey and sFactory cocktails. Excellent choices. Ordered 6 plates, desserts later. The peperu (great starter), cremosella (nice textures), plain focaccina (went fast), mandilla di seta (had before-yummy), pappardelle (excellent pasta), porchetta (large portion w/nice veggies), canolli (great flavor) and bigne di cioccolato (decadent), a 3rd cocktail & 2 coffees. Total w tax & 20% tip - $89 per person. We were stuffed. Each had different favorites (which included every dish.) Mine (mostly vegetarian) were peperu, mandilla, cannoli. After reading where a party of 3 sat at a table for 2, I asked for and got a table for 4. No promises. Yr party has to arrive before being seated. Does get loud."

  • "We had to wait 30 minutes to get seated so even if you make a reservation be expected to wait. I understand it was busy that night but we waited almost 15 minutes for someone to give us menus. Overall if you are looking for a trendy, young downtown LA vibe then this is the place to go but if you want stellar service and food I suggest you go somewhere else."
