A word from The Drawing Room - The Vendue
The Drawing Room Restaurant and Bar is located in a thoughtfully restored 1780s Charleston warehouse building and melds effortlessly into the art exhibition space of The Vendue. The perfect spot for dinner in historic Charleston or just for cocktails and shared plates at the bar before a night on the town. The kitchen is manned by Chef Jon Cropf whose restaurants have held the honor of being a Platinum member of the local Sustainable Seafood Initiative for the last 5 years. Locally sourced seafood and produce are the mainstay of a menu designed to showcase Cropf’s artistic style.

Signature menu items include the Crispy Snapper with summer beans, heirloom tomatoes, and rye smoked corn; as well as a Tasting of Beef Dish, and a Pan Roasted Grouper with seasonal mushrooms, English peas and smashed fingerling potatoes.

The food is excellent, the most delicious meal I have encountered in my foodie life! Between the Duck Fried Potatoes and the fresh Grouper I was in paradise! The desert was the grand finale of the whole meal! The waitress Carries was amazing and provided excellent service!!! I look forward to my next experience at The Drawing Room!!!

Chose The Drawing Room for my birthday dinner and was not disappointed. The food was excellent as was the service. The ambiance wasn't bad but the restaurant is located in the general location of the hotel lobby / walk through area.

The Vendue has recently redone the whole place around an art theme and the food at the Drawing Room really shows the star treatment. Very imaginative and tasty treatment of every dish. Try to get a table as far from the elevator to the rooftop bar to avoid the distraction although the crowd can be entertaining.

The food is excellent. Great flavors. The staff was friendly and attentive. The dining area is attractive, but, because of its open floor plan it lacks some charm. My recommendation is go and enjoy the food and ignore the floor plan.

Our first visit since the renovation. Found space crowded, noisy, stark and uninviting. Chairs extremely uncomfortable and wrong height for tables - and I am 5'9". Food and service was okay, but not exceptional. Not likely to return. Loved The Library!

My husband and I went for restaurant week. We each got the three-course menu. The heirloom tomato salad was absolutely amazing and the corn soup was great too. For our entrées we got the grouper and the lamb. The lamb was paired very well with a pear chutney and was exceptional. The grouper was very good. For dessert we got a chocolate cake and a corncake both of which were good but the appetizers and entrées were so good that we didn't feel that we needed the desserts. We will return for the excellent food, but we do wish there was more of a fine dining setting.

The Drawing Room is a very casual eating area that shares the bar and a hallway going to the roof top bar. Shorts and golf shirts are not unusual dinner attire. Discussions with the wait staff and management indicated that they were trying to provide fine dining food in a casual tourist atmosphere. With that in mind, I think they are well on their way since we were pleasantly surprised about the food quality based on the restaurant ambiance. The cocktails and charcuterie plate were excellent. The beet plate was the most awesome we have ever encountered. Both seafood entrees we tried were of the quality one would expect from Charleston's finer restaurants. We will definitely return but next time we will dress down more.

Had not expected dining area to be in the midst of so much activity; but, the food was simply amazing and made up for any disappointment. The presentation and taste combinations were brilliant and a joy to the senses. Our waiter was courteous and knowledgeable and well versed in the sustainable foods used in the kitchen. I would look forward to another opportunity to visit Charleston and dine at the Drawing Room.

The food was excellent but I felt pushed at times by the waiter to make a decision on what we would eat. We just wanted to sit chill for a while. It's that kind of place. Aside from that there were a lot of people shuffling through place trying to find the elevator to the roof top bar. No one was rude but it was an annoyance.

We went here kind of last minute, and had to wait for a bit at the bar, but were happy to do so. The bartender was a very kind guy, and even gave us a free drink (we were there for a birthday celebration). We chatted for about 20-30 minutes and then were brought over to our table. The waitress was so nice and was very helpful with food suggestions as well as wine pairings. Our food was delicious, and our main meal took a little longer to come out, so the chef prepared us a small cheese and prosciutto plate while we waited! Amazing service. And the food was locally sourced, fresh, and prepared beautifully.

This was our second trip to the newly remodeled Venue Inn and the inventive menu at the Drawing Room. We there with to other couples to celebrate my wife's birthday. Salads and small plates let everyone try some of the interesting dishes. Rabbit is my favorite - will be interesting to see if they change the menus from time to time for seasonal fare. Very efficient and friendly service and you can actually have a conversation! We recommend it!

The chef prepared meals here are exquisite. My mom ordered a vegetable plate (not on the menu, but should be) and it was the most creative (and she said delicious) array of vegetables ever with amazing preparation. My fish dish was excellent. The presentation is simply beautiful. The one recommendation we have is that they expand the menu or change it from time to time. After a couple of nights you may not find something else you like, unless you are a meat lover. An additional fish and chicken dish would be a nice addition as well. Really exceptional quality.

The combination of unique food preparations and excellent service from our waiter Ryan made it an outstanding evening for our party of 9. The foie gras appetizer special was unique and well executed and the sunchoke soup special was a hit with several of our party. A few of us had the tilefish special and it was outstanding as well. All dishes - from the grouper to the beef trio to the three desserts that we shared - were loved by our group. Our food was paired with a CA Pinot Noir and a Pinot Nero (white) from Italy which I had never tasted before. Ryan's recommendation of both were hits as well. The restaurant's focus on local, organic and sustainably raised products prepared in very unique ways make it a must try in Charleston.

The waiter begins with a rather long commercial - local ingredients, all fresh, organic, etc. He then provides a full description of each of the daily specials, which were in fact quite special. The menu consists of creative dishes using esoteric ingredients - for example a local variety of figs served with two types of prosciutto, one of which is fry-crisped. All dishes are unique and artistically presented. The dining room is bright and uncrowded, the service is professional.

After agonizing over which of the MANY great restaurants to choose in Charleston, we picked The Drawing Room. We were so glad we did! It is a beautiful restaurant and the food was superlative! The waiter was exceptional...I only wished I had remembered his name. We had a couple of small plates. The scallops and the foie gras! Fabulous! We also got the fresh catch special which was a local SC fish that I was not familiar with but went with it because of waiters suggestion! Light, flaky and wonderful! Presentation was also beautiful and so creative. Will be going back our next time in Charleston.

I paused before writing this review because I want to always be able to get a table here. Once word spreads of how excellent the food is, and how dedicated the service, I fear this small space may be overrun - even in foodie Charleston! Seasonings perfect, presentation art-like, preparation perfection. The décor makeover is modern and tasteful - au courant enough to attract the tourist, elegant enough to comfort the local patrons of the former "Library". Try the scallop appetizer - one of the few I've had which was free of the metallic salt dusting of corn starch. It's texture was smooth perfection, balanced by veggie crunch, with sweetness, tang, and a hint of spicy. Delicious.

The Vendue is considered an upscale boutique hotel and we expected the dining to be along the same lines. However, The drawing room is not a hotel restaurant, it is actually an extension of the bar with TV and tables that crisscross the hotel lobby and entrance to other rooms. We had to ask to be moved as we were directly in the path of tourists and shorts clad visitors. So we had to sit near the bar with the TV. With a wine list average price between 50 and $60, one would expect better. The food was fussy with Sauce dots all over the plates. Not memorable... The host/chef must've come to us four times to ask how we were doing. The red wine was room temperature 75-80° and had to be chilled before drinkable. We will not go back.
