A word from The Drawing Room - The Vendue
The Drawing Room Restaurant and Bar is located in a thoughtfully restored 1780s Charleston warehouse building and melds effortlessly into the art exhibition space of The Vendue. The perfect spot for dinner in historic Charleston or just for cocktails and shared plates at the bar before a night on the town. The kitchen is manned by Chef Jon Cropf whose restaurants have held the honor of being a Platinum member of the local Sustainable Seafood Initiative for the last 5 years. Locally sourced seafood and produce are the mainstay of a menu designed to showcase Cropf’s artistic style.

Signature menu items include the Crispy Snapper with summer beans, heirloom tomatoes, and rye smoked corn; as well as a Tasting of Beef Dish, and a Pan Roasted Grouper with seasonal mushrooms, English peas and smashed fingerling potatoes.

Diner Reviews
  • "The combination of unique food preparations and excellent service from our waiter Ryan made it an outstanding evening for our party of 9. The foie gras appetizer special was unique and well executed and the sunchoke soup special was a hit with several of our party. A few of us had the tilefish special and it was outstanding as well. All dishes - from the grouper to the beef trio to the three desserts that we shared - were loved by our group. Our food was paired with a CA Pinot Noir and a Pinot Nero (white) from Italy which I had never tasted before. Ryan's recommendation of both were hits as well. The restaurant's focus on local, organic and sustainably raised products prepared in very unique ways make it a must try in Charleston."

  • "The waiter begins with a rather long commercial - local ingredients, all fresh, organic, etc. He then provides a full description of each of the daily specials, which were in fact quite special. The menu consists of creative dishes using esoteric ingredients - for example a local variety of figs served with two types of prosciutto, one of which is fry-crisped. All dishes are unique and artistically presented. The dining room is bright and uncrowded, the service is professional."

  • "After agonizing over which of the MANY great restaurants to choose in Charleston, we picked The Drawing Room. We were so glad we did! It is a beautiful restaurant and the food was superlative! The waiter was exceptional...I only wished I had remembered his name. We had a couple of small plates. The scallops and the foie gras! Fabulous! We also got the fresh catch special which was a local SC fish that I was not familiar with but went with it because of waiters suggestion! Light, flaky and wonderful! Presentation was also beautiful and so creative. Will be going back our next time in Charleston."

  • "I paused before writing this review because I want to always be able to get a table here. Once word spreads of how excellent the food is, and how dedicated the service, I fear this small space may be overrun - even in foodie Charleston! Seasonings perfect, presentation art-like, preparation perfection. The décor makeover is modern and tasteful - au courant enough to attract the tourist, elegant enough to comfort the local patrons of the former "Library". Try the scallop appetizer - one of the few I've had which was free of the metallic salt dusting of corn starch. It's texture was smooth perfection, balanced by veggie crunch, with sweetness, tang, and a hint of spicy. Delicious."

  • "The Vendue is considered an upscale boutique hotel and we expected the dining to be along the same lines. However, The drawing room is not a hotel restaurant, it is actually an extension of the bar with TV and tables that crisscross the hotel lobby and entrance to other rooms. We had to ask to be moved as we were directly in the path of tourists and shorts clad visitors. So we had to sit near the bar with the TV. With a wine list average price between 50 and $60, one would expect better. The food was fussy with Sauce dots all over the plates. Not memorable... The host/chef must've come to us four times to ask how we were doing. The red wine was room temperature 75-80° and had to be chilled before drinkable. We will not go back."

  • "The staff was very knowledgable of the menu and super friendly. If you go during the evening expect it to get a bit noisy with all the people waiting on the elevator to go up to the roof top bar. Overall it was a great experience."
