  • "The small town of Hayesville is a gem in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. Within our little town is a huge gem of a restaurant, voted in the top 100 nationally by Open Table. The service is superb, the food always a delicious and fine dining experience. I would recommend The Copper Door without a moment's hesitation to anyone. Chef Dennis Barber is among the best and his staff well trained. You never leave without feeling special. Go enough and they know your name. And unless you're gluten intolerant, don't ever, ever pass up eating one (or better two) of the warm popovers served with every meal."

Is was obvious that superb care had been taken in preparing the escargot .... wonderful and the Corvina was perfectly bronzed to taste and texture."

  • ""I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. Tuna is my favorite entree --- it is always expertly prepared, nice and rare, never overcooked of tough. Their Crab Cake is loaded with crab -- better than crab cakes at Rehoboth Beach, an East Coast resort town known for their excellent restaurants. My husband loves their pot roast and meatloaf entrees = perfect meals for comfort food lovers. Clara said her seafood pasta dish was divine. I have never been disappointed with seafood at this restaurant. Eating at the Copper Door is a lot like eating at Ocean Air in Atlanta. The food quality and the service are identical, but the prices are much more affordable at the Copper Door!"

The quality of the food, including preparation and presentation, is consistently high, from humble delicious meatloaf to gluten free chocolate torte, perfectly prepared lamb or pop overs. No bad nights or doubtful dishes. A really good year round place where you can count on an excellent meal."

It was so great to NOT have children during our dining experience - this is an adult atmosphere and should be respected as such! I think it has to do with the size of the restaurant and the energy of the guests. But after those few loud tables left we were able to enjoy a quiet, romantic, delicious meal and dessert.   • "In the future I will assume I will sit at a table even with reservations. Therefore, I may wait until day of dining. If I can get reservations I may go. If not I will go somewhere else. If you want me to dine happy in future tell me how many days or weeks in advance I need to make reservations to get a booth. I have eaten at Copper Door about once every two months. Good food and good service but I want a booth. I give 20% or more for good service and never gave less than that in past at Copper Door. I gave about 11% Saturday because no booth."

Andrew was our waiter who was above and beyond a great server. He was knowledgeable about the wine list and had no trouble answering questions about food choices. I was most impressed by Andrew's timing in that he did not rush to take the order to soon allowing us time to enjoy our drinks and appetizer before taking our entree order. The menu was great and the food was exceptionally good. It was apparent that Andrew admired and had great confidence in the chef. We look forward to dining at the Copper Door again. Thank you!"

I would guess you would have to travel to Highlands, NC to find anything that compares. We have brought our kids (5,7,9) before but we typically eat at 5 pm. Everything I have ordered has been superb and the rolls they serve are divine. Highly recommend for anyone seeking to satisfy a sophisticated appetite."
