It might just have been our server because I've been here before and service was great, but this time it was not. We had to ask for our waters to be refilled, he missed the starter we ordered, he asked us if we wanted dessert menus and then took forever to bring them.

Terrific dinner with surprisingly refined food. I had quail eggs, steak tartar, and fish and chips made with a light sole that I would go back for that again. Server attentive, nice, and not in your face. Fortunately we had a corner table in the side room so the sound level was not as loud as closer to the bar.

The service at Cavalier is consistently spectacular. The food is consistently stellar. Took my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary because I knew this would be memorable and special. It was! Both the staff and our waiter, David, went out of their way to make us feel so special and to provide the most exquisite experience we have had. On behalf of my mother and father I thank you and your restaurant for helping us celebrate such a momentous occasion.

Hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. Wine and liquor prices seem more marked up than usual. I've been in restaurants with worse noise levels but still a challenge at times to talk to person directly across fro you.

This had good reviews, gave it a go based on good experience at related Marlowe. Tucked away location, initially impressive room felt good. Staff were great, friendly welcome and excellent recommendations made for the menu. Tables at the back were OK but lacking in atmosphere. Started with Duck Scotch Egg - hyped up and it was OK. Fish and chips was tasty with crunchy batter. Pea accompaniment was inspired, slight citrus dressing cut through the batter nicely. But it felt a little greasy and I left many chips. Colleague had the souffle starter which he was underwhelmed with but compensated with the Marlowe burger which went down well. Good beers, reasonable price but lacked the ambience of Marlowe - definitely pick there if you can.

Read about the beef tallow fries in Esquire. They lived up to their billing. Warm greeting from lovely hostesses. Great service. All the food was delicious. Don't let the British 'cuisine' scare you off. We had nothing that was bland or boring. Will visit again on future visits to SF.

This was our 3rd visit and felt both the kitchen and wait staffs have lost their way a bit. The Beet and Faro Salad that I enjoyed so much last time had way too much faro and not enough beets on this visit. The wait staff was lackadaisical.

This was our first time at The Cavalier, and we loved it. Their burger has been voted best in the city for the past two years so I ordered it to see for myself. It was delish! The place has a trendy, cool vibe. It is a perfect location (right behind Nordstrom) and walkable from Union Square. I will have to go back to try the Brussel Chips & Earl Grey Scones every talks about.

Let's start by saying I was not expecting the limited brunch menu for lunch on Sunday, my bad. Being English we decided to go for the " English" which is meant to be a full English breakfast, now a good English breakfast is not that difficult and the cavalier failed on a number of points: 1. The breakfast tea was far to weak and served with cream not milk 2. The fried bread was sour dough not French toast and was not really fried 3. The ketchup was not Heinz, and there was no brown sauce offered 4. There was no toast 5. The mushrooms were served cold and were boiled 6. There was no salt or pepper on the table Generally the worst English breakfast I've had in about 5 years and not cheap at over 20 dollars.

The service was very slow, although the waitress seemed to be rushing us at first. Boy did that change. At the end of the meal I had to ask two people for cream for coffee, and by the time it arrived coffee was cold. I hope slow service was due to a short staffed evening, because otherwise the dinner was great

Stuck in an alley between Nordstrom's and Bloomingdale's, it's such a treat - it feels just like a British pub. The Fish & Chips were fantastic - triple fried fries that were a delight. Cavalier is part of our hotel (The Zetta) and we arrived late after a long journey from the UK. The food here was exceptional. We had the lamb and the pork loin, both were amazing. The sauces that come with those two dishes and the beef dripping chips, are also brilliant. It's expensive for the type of food they serve but with great taste and good portions, you don't feel too ripped off. Overall, a very good restaurant.

One of my top three go to restaurants in the city. I've recommended Cavalier, Marlowe and Park Tavern to everyone I know and they are always thrilled with the food and service! I always have the crispy brussel sprouts and this time for my friends who'd never been, we had the lamp scrumpets (OMG) and beet salad (wasn't quite what I expected). Then we had the mushroom pie which was delicious, the chicken cooked to perfection and beef chips (to die for)! Because what we were having was a bit heavy, the waiter recommended the tomato salad and he was right - perfectly complemented and lightened up the meal.

Every person who assisted with our meal - bus boys, people pouring water, clearing the table, etc were all fantastic and really really friendly. Our server was nice but reserved, and the hostess was not very great. The food was all good, I had the tenderloin and my husband had the Marlowe burger. We started with a scotch duck egg which was good but weirdly sweet but that's just my opinion. Also tried the deviled crab with bay shrimp, which was again good but not great. We were given an excellent recommendation on dessert from a gal who filled up our water, the peach crumble - awesome - just the right amount of sweet and crunchy. We liked our meal, but other than dessert nothing really stood out in our minds.
