  • I really wanted to like it....

Immediately, I was disappointed in the decor. Given the price per entree, I was expecting more than plastic cafeteria cups for my water and chairs that look like they came from the church basement. The alcohol is limited to wines and beer and the wine list is only so-so. Given the location, I was really disappointed that they did not showcase local wines...they are in Old Town Spring and have a local wine place walking distance from them. The bread was wonderful as was the compound butter, but that is where the good food ends. We shared a Burrata caprese appetizer that was a hunk of burrata on the side of the plate with several tomatoes and microgreens drowned in oil with no basil and no integration of the ingredients. My husband ordered the bluecheese-encrusted doublecut porkchop and it was a thin piece of pork loin that was so overcooked he had to saw through it and it was incredibly underseasoned. When he sent it back, there were no apologies for the poor quality of the meal. My mother and I each got the braised shortribs with the parsnip puree and brussels sprouts - we both felt the meal was so-so. The parsnip puree was really very good and the brussels sprouts were amazing, but the shortribs were also underseasoned. All in all, given the price per entree, I was tremendously disappointed. It may have been an off night, but we'll never be back to find out.

The menu ,although not large has somthing for everyone and all of it is excellent. We were late arrival at 8:15 so they were out of one of the entree's but I will be back to try it . The reservation on line made things much easier. It is quaint But well laid out . could be a little bigger, was busy. still great and our waitress was very accomidating. We had a great time.Alittle pricey but the food was very good not an every day lunch deal but speacial occasion or occasionally for brunch would be fun.

The food is delectable and the service is unmatched. Eric waited on us and he was as delightful as all of the waitresses that we've had in the past! Not to be missed are the Delicious homemade bread and butter, the Chilean Sea Bass and my favorite Roasted Beet and Asparagus Salad. This is the perfect dining experience in a fun and kitschy atmosphere!

Our ladies meetup group met up here for a first-time Sunday brunch. The staff were all so friendly & accommodating! There was a nice selection of food & drink to select from. I ordered the crepes (delish) and California Club (had to take to go) with French onion soup (very good!) others ordered waffles, grilled cheese with tomato soup (gotta try next time!) and washed it down with mango bellinis & champagne. The restaurant is charming in a family friendly neighborhood. We're planning a trip again soon & take more time to do a little shopping around the area all within walking distance. Loved it!

One of the newest addition to the menu, French onion soup. Oh, you say, that's not special, I can get that anywhere. I'm here to tell you, this soup is very special! Served piping hot and overflowing with melted cheese, a savory broth with lots of onions topped with a slice of their wonderful bread and cheese, cheese, cheese. You really have to wait to sip it, it is that hot. Take that time to pick the melted cheese from the sides of the bowl and dip the bread in the broth. Certainly filling and an awesome addition of the menu. We shared the cheese board and the Masterpiece Cabernet. A fine meal, yet again.

Our reservations were for 7:30 and we were promptly seated by owner and chef Joe Marci in a corner booth that was perfect for watching the well planed operations of both kitchen and service. Our server was friendly and very attentive, something lacking in most commercial operations. The fact that the food was skillful plated and at the proper temperature, oh by the way did I mentioned perfect. This is not a place for the impatient or were in a hurry to go no where, its for a night out and being waited on like restaurants use be. I love that fact if you visit the facebook site there is a line by which all fine dinning should read "we do not own booster seats, high chairs or a kids menu" Thank you Joe and Maria

Came for dinner on a Thursday evening and the place was alive! The wife had the bistro salad and french onion soup which I sampled - delicious on both counts. We also split an appetizer of the stuffed mushrooms... OMG. I ordered a meal: plump and wonderfully presented scallops on top of risotto pasta, and they were wonderful. Chef and Maria always stop by the table to chat and see how things are doing. This is a destination restaurant, unassuming and they just keep pumping out great food and service. Thank you, guys.

The chef, Joe, is top notch, and his wife, Maria, is the perfect complement to this fine bistro. The food is flawless. In this unlikely Old Town Spring location, there appears an excellent jewel for fine dining. Everything from the crab roll to pasta, from the pork chop (enough for two) to sea bass, from the rack of lamb to salmon, is outstanding. We have not had a chance to savor all the offerings, but we believe that the entire menu is full of excellent food. We love the crab roll. Our favorites for dessert are the creme brûlée and the mixed fruit tart (my choice). If you are looking for a high end place to eat out, this is it. You are in for a pleasant surprise. Bon appetite!

In the land of hamburger joints and big chain eateries, the Black Sheep Bistro hits a sweet spot. A thoughtful menu of excellent offerings skillfully prepared with the freshest ingredients, combined with a very good wine list and knock-out daily specials are the main attractions of the BSB. But, I really like the laid back, funky neighborhood vibe of the place. It has a Garden District, NOLA feel to it. The service is outstanding and very friendly; the service staff even seems happy about waiting tables. The proprietors, Joe and Maria are clearly very passionate about what they are doing here on Old Town Spring and hope they keep it up! We’ve needed a place like this for a long time. Check it out.

We love coming to this cozy, quaint restaurant! This is our go to place when we want high quality, good food, but don't want to dress up and be in the hustle and bustle of a fine dining, or highly visible restaurant. The service is a little slow sometimes, but we know this and come prepared to just relax and have a nice bottle of boutique wine. The owner is always welcoming and talks to you like old friends. Just love it!

The food was awesome and quite honestly unexpected. The broiled oysters were superb, their risotto w/braised spare ribs was delicious. Their double cut pork chop, encrusted w/blue cheese was delicious! To finish it off, their chocolate mousse was as decadent as was needed after such a good dinner. All in all, the experience was great and the owners, Joe and Maria were on top of everything throughout the night.

Very pleasant little gem. Food was really good, would have like a little less salt in the sauces but it could just be my personal taster. We went on a Friday night and it was pretty busy by 7pm. More wait staff would probably helped with tad slow service. Definitely will be trying again.

Had the Sea Bass which was SUPER AMAZING at $36, but came with no sides to fill you up. Also ordered $12 Mediterranean salad, also very good, but for that price I expected it to be huge. It was only slightly bigger than a side salad. Staff was very friendly, but didn't do any regular checking to see if we were okay. I had to ask for more bread instead of being offered more bread. The servings were so small I wanted even MORE bread but was too embarrassed to ask, and they didn't ask me. After paying a hefty bill, we left the restaurant still hungry and stopped at a cheap sandwich place to fill up, since we skipped lunch in anticipation of a huge dinner. All in all, very good food, but leaving the restaurant hungry was a first for me.

It is wonderful to find an original restaurant in suburbia. The Black Seep is aptly named; with a diverse menu and a chef with an appetite to create, the restaurant stretches well beyond Spring's usual fare. Burrata Caprese was fresh full of flavor, the crab cake was one of the best I have ever tasted, and the salmon was cooked to perfection. The Heights-esque pink shanty doesn't keeps it simple by focusing on the food and not worrying about interior design; can't wait to go back and try the lobster sliders.

Stumbled across this restaurant on the internet, but couldn't place it....then saw it in person while I was in Old Towne Spring and decided to check it out. My wife and I went to dinner that same evening, and thought the food was fantastic. We had the baked oysters, sea bass, and ragout. Everything was great. The service was excellent, as well. The food took a little while to come out, but we were enjoying ourselves enough not to notice. The server (Aspen) was the most precious and charming young lady.....she really helped make our dining experience special. The owners have an intriguing story, and we enjoyed our dinner even more for having known it.

It was a pleasant atmosphere for a old house that had been converted into a restaurant. The staff was friendly, however they were out of beer because they do not have the space for refrigeration and had sold it all the night before. Not everyone drinks wine and other options should be made available, even if you have to cool the beer in a ice chest. The food was very good. The Salmon was truly the best dish. My steak was overcooked. I ordered medium and it was serviced medium well. We may try it for Sunday brunch.

We had heard good things about Black Sheep Bistro from Open Table reviews. Now that we've been there, we fully support all the good news everyone is reporting! The organic king salmon was SO GOOD! WOW. The accompanying cous-cous and vegetables were wonderful as well. The other entree we ordered was the ribeye steak with baked potatoes - very nice. We started with the Mediteranean salad, very fresh and delicious. We found a wine we enjoyed and will probably order again-not overpriced for Spring residents. Finishing with the fabulous, silky chocolate mousse, we delighted in the wonderful flavors we enjoyed at Black Sheep Bistro.

We are regular diners here and Joe, Maria and staff continue to provide a wonderful dining experience. From the front door to the kitchen, all works rather smoothly, and considering the close quarters, that in itself is amazing. The yellow fin tuna dinner special was one of the best seafood dishes I have ever tasted. Hubbie continues with his favorites of the black sheep sliders or fettuccine bolognese, excellent, bar none. The venison pate appetizer special was dynamic. I say try it, you'll like it! The atmosphere is very much like dining at home, without the cooking hassle, diners interact as though they are family, even if they are not. If you are looking for a stuffy, nose in the air place, go somewhere else.
