The American restaurant is a MUST stop in Kansas City. The place has an old time classy feel. The decor is beautiful and the scenic view of the city amazing! The food is a treat for the eyes and palette. If the antelope is on the menu, get it, it was superb! It was tender and complimented by the chorizo. Excellent presentation and flavors. This place does not disappoint. I've frequented top restaurants in Vegas, D.C., And Manhattan. This place competes with the best of them. Two more notes: the service is impeccable and the live entertainment a treat. We visited on a Saturday night and had a great time. Sadly, the return diners that accompanied us sent a couple of courses back and were greeted graciously with other choices and other accommodations that worked very nicely. Service was impeccable. Neither he nor I had been to the American Restaurant. We were very impressed with the amazing view of the Kansas City landscape. We could see Crown Center, Union Station, Hallmark Cards, downtown KC, the new Kauffman Performing Arts Center, Bartle Hall, and much more. The food was outstanding. We had a 3-course meal with antelope as the main dish. The thing I liked about the food was it was not based on quantity but on quality. We both felt full and very satisfied but not stuffed. The service was excellent and the American Restaurant is truly not only a 5 star restaurant but a Kansas City gem as well. So why are so few tables filled on a Friday night? Our reservation was at 7:00 p.m. There was only one other table seated when we arrived.
