Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I have been to TFB for dinner 3-4 times, always with superlative results. TFB has remodeled, gone upscale, raised its rates, but the dining experience has not been elevated commensurately. My duck ragu tasted like Arby's roast beef over pasta. And they're charging $9 for corkage--that's too high. We won't be returning. There are too many other great places in town."

  • "Murph and his team are all super friendly and welcome you as if you're a long lost friend. The food is mindfully sourced and prepared and is consistently well prepared. I love the salad lyonaise and frites to start, and the fish is always fresh and tasty."

  • "We took a group there fro dinner. Some selections were excellent (Black Drum, Vegetarian Root Medley), some were not liked (The duck Pasta, generally lacking in flavor). Mussel appetizer was very good also. We liked the ambiance, service was very good."

  • "Had a dinner with friends here and the food was delicious. Locally sourced ingredients and good variety on the menu. It is bring your own wine, which is nice and keeps the bill down."

  • "The atmosphere is casual and noisy. The food is excellent. For lunch I like the special. They make .a good chicken salad. For dinner the black drum was excellent. One can also enjoy the availability of baked goodies"

  • "Their interesting menus change constantly. Most of the food comes from local farms. The wait staff always makes you feel welcome. Did I say the food is always delicious! My boyfriend and I come here 2 or 3 times a month. Best to make a reservation. You save money because you bring your own bottle of wine. Prices are most reasonable. Nice ambiance - you feel like you're in a small french restaurant in the South of France."

  • "The experience is always welcoming and enjoyable at Texas French Bread. Locally sourced menu is based on seasonal availability. It's bring your own wine for a reasonable fee. Love this place!"

  • "Enjoyed the ambiance. Service was not great - had to remind server of prior requests. Ravioli was under done and a bit cold when served, but could have been great. Like the BYOB (in this case, wine) policy."

  • "Friendly staff, friendly owner, seasonal , locally sourced menu. Terrific desserts. Great for breakfast or lunch."

  • "We have been dining at TFB for dinner for several years. It is a favorite, due to the staff, the ambience, the food and the BYOB policy. Exceptionally well-priced and the highest quality local ingredients. We keep talking about trying new places, but always come back to TFB."

  • "Wonderful food, locally sourced and inventive. Beautifully, but unpretentiously plated. Friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming service. Simply delicious. The nicest folks you'd want to meet, who go out of their way to insure their guests have a lovely dinner, or tasty breakfast, lunch or take-away. Baked goods are divine."

  • "Most reataurants are over crowded and rush you out on Valentines Day but our experience was great. Good food, good service and not over crowded at all. Thanks guys."

  • "Our Italian friends find Texas French Bread the truest model of a great European Bistro; wonderful food; attentive, friendly without being intrusive service, and easy, easy to feel comfortable."

  • "Delicious dinner. Always fresh and beautifully Presented. Remodel nicely completed."

  • "Food is brought in from local farmers/ranchers. Delicious. I love the waitstaff and the owner, Murph, is delightfully engaging. He had only just emerged from the back making his famous pasta. Bring your own wine to the meal. It was packed this time, so service was only adequate. It's usually excellent as well. I guess the success of the restaurant has this as a downside."

  • "Excellent quality home cooked meal. The kid's charcuterie plate is brilliant."

  • "Overall rating would be a 4 if ambiance was better- nicer tables, flowers on table, quieter music, smooth jazz, felt like we were sent to the back shed waiting for a table... having said all of that, we are delighted that you have created this farm to table venue, and we know that you are doing your best to make adjustments/revovations to have it be more comfortable... we will continue to support your efforts, just perhaps not as often as we might if the aforementioned weren't an issue. Thanks."

  • "The service and the food were amazing. Since its a BYOB, and a table from the night before left some sparkling wine, they were nice enough to pour for us. The food was cooked perfectly, with the freshest bread and a luscious Budino."

  • "I live in the area and like to dine with out-of-town guests here. I appreciate that most of the ingredients are sourced locally and that the bread is made fresh daily! Our waiter was very attentive and ensured my party had a great time. Thank you!"

  • "Texas French Bread is famous for its breads and pastries and cakes. Although it has been doing dinners for several years, many people seem surprised to learn that simple fact. The menu changes based on what is available locally on that date. The result is a menu that changes often and allows the diner to try some wonderful combinations. Great service, good food. What more could one ask for when planning a birthday dinner."

  • "I forgot how long it had been since we were here. It was great, food was great, fries were great, the "atmosphere" was excellent. I also liked the ability to bring our own wine in. I need to remember to remember TFB"

  • "Eating at Texas French Bread was wonderful. We were 9 people, mostly writers in town for the Texas Book Festival. TFB has no wine license, so I provided the wine for my group. The corkage and serving of the wine worked well. We shared delicious appetizers, and then went on to terrific entrees, and the greatest dessert in Austin, butterscotch pudding with a salt caramel layer topped by whipped cream. Shared. Liz, our server, took great care of us, and Murph was a gracious host. By the end of a wonderful evening, we'd bonded, prepared for our panel the next day, and all felt like Austinites. Thank you, Texas French Bread."

  • "Nothing standard about this restaurant. Shouldn't tell anyone about TFB frankly. Classic food and great atmosphere. Low key yet efficient service. Limited menu yet exceptional. Fair prices and a great meal. My standard to compare other restaurants too. Bring your own wine for the time being."
