This was my second trip to terrain and lunch at the café in 9 days...and I live 100 miles away! The day was 25 degrees outside, but, inside, the ambiance was so wonderful, we felt as though we were in Paradise amidst the ivies and topiaries and flowers and twinkly lights. The presentation of the food was perfect, starting with the bread ( and wonderful flavored butter) served in a terra cotta pot. The soups were magnificent...cream of mushroom w. truffle oil and a corn chowder), and there is no better burger anywhere than the "terrain burger"! Wonderful selection of hot , freshly brewed tea ( served in personal teapots) was perfect. Thank you!!!

I brought my sister to the café for a birthday brunch this past Saturday and we both absolutely LOVED it. Everything was perfect, from the service to the amazing food, to strolling around the shop. I love it there- could spend hours (and did) wandering. The café has the BEST food! The only disappointment was that I loved the Salted Honey pie so much and couldn't mail order (which is understandable) I live in NJ so it was too far to drive and pick up the day before Thanksgiving. Please open in NJ!!!!! I can't say enough about the café- perfection!

  • High expectations left us cold
    Perfection
    Dined on 11/14/2014
We went to Terrain with great expectations. Have been there for lunch and loved the atmosphere. Our dinner last Fri evening was a totally different experience. The garden-like atmosphere is great but it was a chilly night and the heater was erratic. Warm then cold--scarf on, scarf off. We chose the pre-fixe menu as it is a value meal at $32. Choices were good. The appetizer of veggie fritters was very good. We are off to a good start. That was pretty much the end of 'good'. We waited a long time for our meal and when it came, the skirt steak was as cold as the breeze blowing on us. It was tasty but who wants cold steak and fries? Our server who, by the way, was most apologetic and sweet, offered to send it back, We persevered thinking the food might be warmer underneath. When this proved not to be true, when the manager came by we gave up our plates. When our dinners returned they were much warmer but somehow the mushrooms had dwindled to a precious few. The kitchen offered dessert but that was already included in the meal. So they plopped chocolate ice cream on top of our vanilla cinnamon bread pudding?? The pudding was mediocre at best. So I am sorry to say that even the flower pot bread and delicious flavored butter couldn't warmup this cold experience.

Our group did the 6 course tasting menu which was great. The portions were of an excellent size and the courses were varied and interesting. My wife is a Vegan and they were able to accommodate here for all 6 courses. She was very pleased. They also did two different dishes for each course so our table of 4 ended up with 18 different dishes to try. The atmosphere is very unique and very comfortable. The only complaint was the Resturant being on the cool side.

I took my daughter for a special lunch and day out. We love terrain so much and it is nice to be able to grab lunch and shop all in the same location. This particular day(a Sunday), it was so loud that we could barely hear one another. We also waited over 30 minutes for our food. The upside is that the food is always delicious and the staff attentive. Great place to go if you are not in a hurry.

I've been to Terrain a few times before, but for some reason, this seemed to be the best visit. I had a fabulous flat iron steak with fries and arugula salad. The food and the portions were perfect. The temperature of the green house was so comfortable. I even had a vanilla latte and that was perfect as well. I love how the menu changes with the seasons!

If you want a special place that has a unique atmosphere, great food and is a BYOB, there is nothing like Terrain. Walking through the store, which is already decorated for Christmas, and has that great Christmas smell, sets the mood for a lovely meal in the green house. The food runs the gambit from casual to more upscale and is presented on boards or plates, depending on the nature of the meal. Either way, it adds to process of "eating with your eyes". Being able to bring your own, lets you take the meal in any direction you desire. We were a group of 4 and I can honestly say, we all left very impressed.

I've been here once before, so I knew what to expect - top knotch service, excellent food, and an atmosphere to die for! I took my mom out for lunch, her first time here, and she couldn't stop raving about it during and after! She's not a fan of the rustic look, so it took some convincing to get her to eat here, but after her first bite she was hooked! It's great food with unique twists and if you go you MUST have dessert!!

As always Terrian is a magical place, the greenhouse is beautifully decorated. We had the cheese plate to begin, one of the cheeses was too hard and difficult to cut, but who doesn't love cheese! I had a salad that was overly dressed, next time I'll ask for dos. We shared the cobbler, it was ok, not enough ice cream for my liking. Overall, good experience.

What a wonderful melange of ambiance and incredible food! I can't say enough about the entire experience and can't wait to go back - even though we live 100 miles away! The combination of authentic rustic atmosphere and farm to table cuisine is a win:win. We started with the soups (roasted wild mushroom and apple-carrot) and the flavor was amazing. Entrees included scallops and risotto with shrimp and both were done to perfection. Portions were ample and we left quite full. Loved the bread baked in a flower pot, as well. Terrain Garden Cafe is quite a gem and the surrounding shops raise it to a whole other level!

Love everything about Terrain but their kitchen is way understaffed. It took 45 mins for omelet and french toast. Bacon was way overcooked. Even though I like crispy bacon, these were black and dripping with oil. Also, a couple months ago- our first time having dinner there, they completely forgot my entree altogether. They felt bad and gave us free dessert to go because we had other plans and couldn't wait much longer. Anyways, the whole atmosphere is great and worth checking out though because it is different and unique

Reservations are a must for weekend outings. The atmosphere here is truly unique. It was so beautiful to look at everything that you almost escape into solitude around the lively scene around you. Definitely the type of place for romance, but relaxed enough that it's okay for a date night. Really wish that the waiter I had knew a little more about the menu and what ingredients were in the entrees. Both my date and I got the Terrain Burger because that was the only thing he could confidently assure me was great. And he was not wrong! Probably the best hamburger I've ever had. The cheese board is another must! Absolutely divine. Based on other's reactions to their dishes around us, you'll love anything you get.

We went here expecting it love it, we've heard such great things. Upon arrival, the ambiance of the restaurant is absolutely lovely!! Service was just ok..friendly, but alot of waiting. The bread pot, I will say, was delicious! The rest of the meal was a let-down. Everything lacked proper seasoning. My husband's burger was so tall he could barely pick it up..it was pretty but not practical, he had to disassemble it to eat it. I got the risotto, it was watery and flavorless...the butternut cubes in it weren't cooked through. I added a chicken breast for an upcharge and it was completely inedible. It was like rubber...I literally left the entire thing on the plate. Maybe we hit an off night...?? Unfortunate to say, we will not be returning.

The cafe's website highly recommends a reservation, which we made. Upon arriving, a couple ahead of us hadn't made a reservation and was trying to get a seat, which took a long time to sort out. Once the couple was seated, the hostess disappeared. Finally someone arrived to seat us. The individual walked to a table, removed a reserved sign and promptly walked away. There was no indication from the individual that this was our seat, so we had to ask if this was indeed our table or if he was just clearing it for someone else. We had to wait another 5 minutes for a menu and a further 10 minutes for a waitress. When our waitress arrived, she was attentive and the food was delicious, but given the start of the service, we won't be going back.

Let me start off by sayng I complain about everything. Salt shakers, glassware, uniforms of the waitresses, lighting...you name it I have something to say. Well this place hit the mark on every point. Service was perfect, food choices interesting and perfectly cooked and the atmosphere, while pleasant when we sat down at 6, was romantic and enveloped in a candlelight feel from all the Edison bulbs strewn across the canopy (yes canopy) Prices were excellent.
