Diner Reviews
  • "Tequila's is the best, great food, great drinks, and you can't find better service."

  • "My wife and I dined here for our 3rd wedding anniversary and we had a fantastic experience. First of all, being from NJ, it was super easy to get to via the Patco train since it's literally right outside the 15th-16th Locust St stop. We arrived about 30 minutes early for our reserved table, and they were able to seat us immediately which was a pleasant surprise for a Saturday evening. The food was very authentic and exquisite. We started with the traditional Guacamole, probably the best guac I've ever had, and the Queso Fundido. My wife had the Fish Special (Grouper) and I had the stuffed Duck Breast special both of which were perfectly portioned and cooked just right. Overall, a wonderful experience that we will definitely try again."

  • "Our server was incredibly helpful suggesting vegetarian options and service was spot on even though it was an extremely busy night. The vegetarian platter was fabulous."

  • "This is my second time at tequila restaurant. I am visiting from NYC. This time I came with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday.. When making the reservation, I had mentioned that it was his birthday and hope something would have been delivered to our table for the occasion but it never happened. But I saw that another table got the staff to sing to the birthday girl. Food was fantastic reason I made this request was because. I don't like getting up from my table during meal and catching a waiter to mention this occasion. Just hope they are more aware about these requests from open table diners. On a positive note, the music went well with the ambience and the restaurant. The dessert crepe was amazing"

  • "Absolutely loved everything we ordered. The food is fresh, authentic, and most importantly, delicious! Great for a special occasion or a night out with friends. The dark lighting leads to a more romantic mood in the restaurant for dates as well. Guacamole was excellent, mole sauce was amazing, and the house salsa very good. My only complaint would be the margaritas. We ordered classic on the rocks with salt, and they were nothing to write home about."

  • "We had a somewhat early reservation, at 5:30 pm. When we arrived they weren't very busy at all but we were escorted to the very back of the restaurant. It was a bit dark where we were sitting, even though it was still light outside. Our server, Jose-Juan, was a very nice young man. He funny w/ a great personality and is very knowledgable about the menu. When asked for a recommendation between two menu items, he answered honestly. The food and cocktails were both very good. I ordered the Echiladas Playa and they were delicious. They come with rice and vegetables (steamed I think). I didn't care for the vegetables, they were flavorless and a bit oily. Everything else was wonderful! I would definitely go there again."

  • "Shrimp...stuffed with cheese...wrapped in bacon....then fried....(drool). Everyone should try these once before they die...which will likely be shortly after eating them. Those shrimp were soooo good! As an aside, the guac, enchiladas del playa, and service were all very good as well."

  • "The food was good even though they messed the drink- a Margarita Diablo one of which they replaced! We reserved 2 weeks before .Upon arrival they gave us a table near the bar in front of the cold breeze. On making a little fuss, they gave us a very nice table in the back. That room was huge, and though fairly full, there were many empty tables. What is the point in reserving if you get a bad table?Or was it because we booked through Open Table? There was a nice family sitting near the bar with a young teen sitting. They should have been treated better."

  • "My mom and I were looking for a place to eat before seeing a show and we chose Tequilas. A friend had mentioned it to me before so we decided to give it a try. Oh my goodness. The service was excellent. They explain any dish you are unsure of. They carry your beverage on the tips of their three fingers and if you get a pitcher, they carry it on their head. The food was excellent. My mom got the seafood enchiladas and I had the pork special from that evening. We ha also had guacamole as an appetizer and we were stuffed, but we had to get dessert. Again, so delicious. It was a little dark which made reading the menus a little difficult but nothing to ruin our evening. I highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to go back!"

  • "I just realized that I hadn't submitted a review from my meal. I have loved this restaurant for years and have never had anything less than a great experience there. On this particular night I brought a first timer who was blown away by the decor, and then the food started coming...and kept coming! The Ceviche is a generous blend of fresh seafood, tomato, cilantro and citrus juices. The Guacamole, fresh, creamy and perfectly spices. For main courses, we implemented the "sharing is caring" philosophy with the Seafood Enchiladas and the Filet/Prawn combo. For dessert, not much of a sweet tooth but the Jalapeno ice cream in the chocolate shell is one of my fave things on earth. Combine all that with flawless service and you have a winner!"

  • "I love everything about this restaurant, food, service, drinks. However, it is way too dark at night. Everyone at my table (who has relatively good eye sight) could not see the menu so they had to use their phone flash lights to see the food - not exactly classy in my opinion. Please boost up the light just a tad."

  • "We discovered Tequila's on our very first trip in 2009 and never fail to dine there at least twice during our visits (4 years now!). We love to eat at the bar and chat with the bartender. The interior is gorgeous - rich carved dark timber, high ceiling, elegant yet casual. My husband lived in Mexico for ten years and says the food is excellent - very authentic, plus he loves fine tequila and they have an amazing selection. Noise levels are also lower than most places - you can actually hear one another! The fact that they have been open for 27 years, certainly says something. The staff are wonderful - very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended for lunch, dinner or just drinks!"

  • "This is the only authentic upscale Mexican restaurant in Philadelphia that I recommend without any hesitation. The food is delicious and true to upscale Mexican. The chips and guacamole were very simply prepared but the result was fantastic--buttery, fresh avacados highlighting a dish that was not too spicy and did not suffer from gimmicks. My steak was perfectly cooked and the sauce was crave-able. My friend ordered the shrimp special and raved about it on the walk home. Portions were not huge, but definitely filled us up for a reasonable price. As their name suggests, the tequila products/margaritas are outstanding (I just wish they carried Clase Azul tequila at the bar)."

  • "We've been to this restaurant many times and have always enjoyed. That is, until, last Friday night. Not only was the place so crowded as to be obnoxious, we had an encounter with a gentleman (so to speak) who was in the role of matre d' or something akin to that. So, after ordering drinks and guacamole and getting the former but not the latter, he comes up to our table but the quasi-matre d'. He very aggressively tells us: "You know, you're not going to get your guacamole until you place your order for you entree". Excuse me? Has anyone EVER heard this before and done so in a rude fashion? We were floored. And by the way, we held out and spoke to our waiter who promptly brought our guacamole BEFORE we ordered. We won't be back EVER."

  • "Great drinks and great food that keeps everyone in a large group happy! Our waiter was very attentive, but not rushing us. Great beef, chicken, fish and seafood entrees -- we had at least one of each in our group and no one was disappointed. If you like guacamole, be sure to try it!"

  • "We went for a Saturday night dinner, and got a nice table. The waitress was informatative about the food and drinks, and helpful in making choices based on portion size, light vs heavy food, etc. The other service staff were quick and efficient with responses to requests for additional drinks, water and everything else. The food itself was extremely fresh and flavorful, and reasonalby priced for the portion size."

  • "I've been to Tequila's a few times and thoroughly enjoy it every time. This dining experience was by far my favorite. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us helpful suggestions to suit our needs. Every time I go, I enjoy the Roses Margarita. A margarita infused with red roses. We sat in a back room and although the room was filled, it was still romantic and enjoyable. I also love the atmosphere and the art from the entrance and throughout."

  • "I have been to Tequila's a couple of times. Very good food and nice atmosphere. A lot of fun for groups, as well as couples. However, the place gets really noisy so it can be difficult to talk. Overall, a great place!"
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "While the atmosphere attempts at traditional, the experience is definitely more American than Mexican. The food is not bad but not as authentic as expected. Not a memorable meal, keep in mind that I'm Chicano. It gets quite busy which causes service to suffer a little. It also gets quite noisy. Not exactly a romantic or quiet night out but something different. I'd like to try it on a weekday to see if it makes a difference. Maybe not. I put this on my "B" list."

  • "Tequilas is a fun, beautiful and delicious place to go. The waiters are very nice and attentive. We had a yummy gaucomole with crabmeat and pineapple in it. The seafood cerviche was fresh and tasty. Huge prawns and the whole trout for dinner were terrific! We ate at a very trendy place off Passyunk St. the night before and Tequilas was a much better meal for the same price."

  • "This was the second time my husband and I have eaten here. It is our new favorite spot. The skinny margaritas are amazing. The food is authentic, clean and freshly prepared. The staff can't do enough for you. We love to sit in the bar area and people watch. We will be back soon and this time we will bring along friends to share our experience."

  • "Food was ok. Enchiladas tasted like canned chicken. They put their own spin on drinks so don't expect to get what you are used to when you order a drink. Don't ask for hot sauce because they'll give you some habanero peppers in some vinegary sauce, tell you to try very little of it because it's spicy and charge you $2.95 for a 1/4 of a teaspoon of "hot sauce"."

  • "We've been meaning to try Tequeila 's since moving to CC last April. I especially wanted to eat outside. Well, we finally made it on a blustery night.Turns out, the inside is also quite charming. Our server was helpful, friendly and attentive. We liked our dishes and felt the menu had options for all eaters. My one critique is that I found the food to be a bit too salty and garlicky."

  • "Our experience was amazing. Our server was Manuel and he was attentive, friendly, and made great suggestions. Awesome drink menu - it was so hard to pick but our cocktails turned out to be delicious and refreshing. The food was outstanding from start to finish! We cannot wait to go back to try some more menu items. It is a vibrant atmosphere but our table was sort of out of the way and it was actually quite romantic. Highly recommend trying this place out for a date night or fun night out with friends!"

The service was very friendly, table service was excellent without being bothersome. The food was delicious authentic Mexican. Will return again and recommended to friends and family"

  • "I would go here again--this was our 2nd time there. Food is great, server was very accommodating to our group. Drinks took a little while to come out to us and my 2nd margarita was prepared poorly. I'm sure if I had mentioned it to the server it would have been resolved appropriately. Chips & salsa are wonderful!"

  • "This restaurant did not "wow" us. We arrived a few minutes before 5pm, our reservation time. Even though the sign on the door says that the bar is open all day, we were told that it was NOT open and to come back at 5 pm. We returned at 5pm to wait around 20 minutes for them to get their act together. The food was nothing special. The drinks were nothing special. We were just not impressed with anything, but otherwise, nothing specific to complain about."

  • "Other than having a very obnoxious couple who berated the waitress unnecessarily seated beside us, this place was great. Great, inventive guacamoles, attentive staff, very good if pricey drinks. My wife had the mahi mahi special which was outstanding. I had the molcajete which was very good. The tres leches was very good (not the best I've had but very good). WIll definitely go back, great place to hit before seeing a show at the Prince Theater."

  • "This is my third time visiting Tequila's in Center City. I've Twice for restaurant week and it has always been absolutely phenomenal. I brought my girlfriends parents here because they love Mexican food, and margaritas. They were not disappointed. With such a large selection of of tequila and the knowledgeable staffs suggestions every had plenty of food and more than enough to drink all night. The specials are to die for. I've never had a bad dish here. If you love real authentic Mexican food, and love tequila, Tequilas has got to be on your list."
