Diner Reviews
  • "Our guests declared the food was better than at The Kitchen restaurant where they had just eaten dinner about a week before."

  • "Taylor's Kitchen is a delightful little culinary paradise in Land Park. Food is sourced locally whenever possible, and Chef Richard Telford works his magic with the assistance of Manager/Sommelier Keith. I ordered three courses, "Chef's Choice." Chef selected a Cured Albacore Mojama, which turned out to be a marriage of beautiful flavors with seasonal vegetables combined with a smoked olive oil aioli. Second course was a Baby Arugula Salad, with ale braised pork belly with a blue cheese and a dijon tarragon vinaigrette. Finally, the Blackened California Rock Cod was served over a succotash of mixed beans, rice and topped with a chipolte peach butter. Dessert was a bacon bread pudding. Delicious! Wine parings were spot on!"

  • "Wonderful staff, wonderful wine list and wonderful food. Food reminded me of NY bistro food that exemplified creativity but not being too over the top. Chilled corn and peach soup, brined pork chop and to finish it off was a bacon bread pudding with caramel sauce were divine! I'm counting the days my husband and I are headed back."

  • "Chose this place based on reviews and the menu on OpenTable. Once we got there, discovered the menu was not the same, so first let down. Current menu seemed to feature the same three or four items in just about every meal. Had the duck liver appetizer which lacked any liver taste. The octopus on the sunomono salad was promising, but sadly all you could taste of the octopus was the grill. Main entree, nothing sounded good except for the tri tip steak (last thing I ever order at a restaurant). Steak was cooked to requested doneness, but nothing special. Sadly, won't be coming back. Love Taylor's Market, so what happened with Taylor's Kitchen?"

  • "We are so lucky to be living in an area that has a restaurant like Taylor's. The menu continues to excite and old favorites are always there as well. Sqush blossoms stuffed with scallop mousse? Yum! Kudos to the chef..."

  • "We got to the restaurant early, were seated right away and were greeted by our waitress Ali. She was smart, funny and knew everything we needed to know. Our waitress suggested the fried squash blossoms stuffed with scallop mouse and some cheese. They were crispy and delicious. I had an heirloom tomato salad with mozzarella cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette. Very nice. My wife had mahi-mahi and I had a bone-in ribeye medium rare (cooked to perfection) and they were excellent! We drank a white sparkling wine from Alsace, France and it was toasty, crisp and exquisite. We shared a dessert with fresh fruit and some almond cake and it was light & tasty. Food was perfectly cooked, service was excellent, nice ambiance and we will be back."

  • "When I think about going out, I don't usually think about Taylor's Kitchen, even though it's in my neighborhood. I am so glad it popped up on Open Table when I couldn't get reservation at Ella. From top to bottom this was one of the best meals I have had in Sacramento. Fresh, seasonal and creative use of ingredients and all presented perfectly. Service was really professional but also nicely laid back. I will definitely be back soon!"

  • "We love Taylor's and have been going on a regular basis since it opened. It's great having such a wonderful restaurant right in our neighborhood. Food and service always wonderful!!"

  • "Very knowledgable wait staff. Makes dining much more enjoyable when the staff knows the food well. Also, it was a very hot evening and our wait person realized the cabernet we ordered was a bit warm so she chilled it a few minutes to get it to cellar temperature. Too bad the "cellar" doesn't hold all the wine they have in stock but very thoughtful of her to be aware the wine was too warm to drink, especially because it was an expensive bottle."

  • "Local ingredients, well-prepared, but in inventive ways! We are so happy Taylor's Kitchen is so close by!"

  • "Steve our server is a true gourmand. His description of the works of art, food, literally enhances the entire experience. The food is truely exceptional and consistently so. The menu is varied frequently enough to keep elevating my experience time after time."

  • "We have been to Taylor's several times and it is always excellent. The food is innovative and the staff makes you feel like an old friend. Kudos to Steve!"

  • "We had a great dinner here with friends last week. The mahi mahi was amazing and the fresh tomato soup was tangy with just a hint of sweetness (a bit of melon). We had great deserts and the wine list is always a hit. We love this place!"

  • "Brought my dad and my one-year-old daughter to Taylor's Kitchen for Father's Day and was delighted with the cozy and comfortable interior, prompt and friendly service, and delicious eats! Our server brought us "refills" with a smile every time my little one dropped the spoon she was playing with--which had to be at least 5 times!--and was present without being intrusive. I loved the flaky and buttery crust on the Quiche Lorraine, the crisp on the outside/fluffy inside home fries, and the salad, with its mix of tender local greens, shaved fennel, thinly sliced watermelon radish, sweet-salty-crunchy almond brittle, and tangy citrus vinaigrette. An excellent meal!"

  • "I'm no rockstar but have been fortunate in my professional life. I've eaten all over the world, in public and private dining experiences, in rooms with members of state and royals in attendance. I'd rather have Taylor's Kitchen any day of the week. It is an understated gem, by any measure."

  • "Being from wine country I've always found Sac.'s dining options big disappointment. Taylor's changed that. I went for Mother's Day & unfortunately they had a pre fixe menu. Don't get me wrong, it was excellent & the wait staff kept bringing us more! It's just that I had been drooling over their menu(pork belly Benedict etc.) I will be back. So you Bay Area foodies need not despair - there are good places to eat in Sac"

  • "We finally decided to try Taylors Kitchen, and we were so happy we did! We sat at the wine bar for dinner, which we enjoyed. We got to visit with our server/ bartender and also got great service. The food was excellent! I had the salmon which was cooked just the way I asked and my husband had the pasta dish which he said was delicious also. The salads we had were both perfect starters to our meals. Can't wait to go back and try one of the wonderful looking dishes on the menu. "

  • "Although a neighborhood gem and I don't live in the "hood", I love going here. I always run into a lot of friends and the food is outsatnding. Attached to a gourmet one-of-a kind market, the food is seasonal and excellent. That beign said, I went in April adn my entree shoudlahve been retired with the winter menu. It was squab with wild rice and sauseage and was a little too heavy. I eyed my dining partner's pasta with peas longingly. It looked like a better choice."

  • "The food was great and the service is excellent. It was my friend's birthday and they honored it with a little candle in the dessert. I've been here around 4 to 5 times and haven't been disappointed. It's a little small for groups over about 5 and it might be disruptive noise wise. "

  • "Very small place, part of the kitchen is open and in the dining room. The beet salad with fresh peas and buratta cheese had a different taste in every bite. Salmon was perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth fresh. Profiterols for dessert house made. Wonderful, weekend brunch also never disappoints!"

  • "Our "go to" place. Consistently interesting food with a kitchen that works well together. Fresh salads, terrific smoked trout surprises. Beets that are earthy with greens that make the beets shine. Pork chop and veal chops extraordinaire. Wine suggestions respectful of your chosen price point. Professional staff. Absolutely professional staff..."

  • "We've been in the land park area for about a year and this was our first time at Taylors. We were not disappointed! We haven't had that much flavor in our food in a long time - and we partake out enough to know. The pork belly app was divine and seasonal entrees incredible. We can't wait to go back to indulge more in the wine list paired with the cheeses of the day (cheeseboard). Well worth the price. "

  • "Havent been here in a few years but it was just as good as we remembered. I don't normally order chicken when i eat out bc it can be a bit boring but I got the roasted chicken and it was soo delicious, crispy and well seasoned on the outside and super juicy inside. The bartender also made some really good champagne cocktails."

  • "It was surprising that we received a sparkling drinks for celebrating my girlfriend's birthday. Feel so warm and for sure will go there again. The only thing is not much choices on the menu but foods are good."

  • "When opened we were regulars...but the menu basically never changed..one pork entrée one fish, one beef one chicken one pasta. The vegetables changed with the seasons. Two salads, two entrees one dessert and corkage fee...$126.00 including tax and tip. The entrées and dessert were very good. The asparagus salad missed. The asparagus had no flavor...par boiled and chilled. Service and staff were excellent. But, it will probably be another two-three years before we return. We live nearby and walk by the restaurant regularly and always check the menu posted outside...."

  • "Had another wonderful experience at Taylors. Inventive menu. They are flexible (I had a larger portion of an appetizer, as an entrée- gnocchi with pork belly, yum). My dining partner's halibut was perfectly cooked. Even my salad was special (butter lettuce, watermelon radishes, other things, with great dressing). We were too full for dessert. Only slight negative was service, which was good but not as great as the food. Our waiter had to be asked, for example, to put our white wine on ice, and struggled to get our salad order straight. Minor issues, though. We will be back!"

  • "A little bit limited on the menu selections but everything offered was excellent. Having said that, we had the asparagus salad but the poached egg that topped it should have been warm. Will definitely go back."

  • "We were a party of six with a wide range of preferences. We shared a couple orders of their amazing beet salad and the very tasty gnocchi. They were so accommodating that they split an order of their delicious clam chowder, so we could all taste it. We ate so much that we worried we wouldn't have room for our main courses. Three prime ribeyes, seasoned and cooked to perfection, two vegetarian pastas, and one veal chop. We loved it all, but saved room for dessert. We shared the warm chocolate cake, the strawberry rhubarb tart and two orders of creme brulee´. Loved the food, loved the service, and we love the setting! Taylor's Kitchen made my brother's birthday celebration a memorable one!"

  • "I stopped by for another adventure at Taylors. After a warm welcome by the staff, I asked the Chef to select two courses and off we went! The first, a delicious winter salad with seasonal vegetables over a fig dressing was paired with a crisp white wine. Next, I enjoyed Salmon filet, which although farm raised in Chili, is part of a sustainable food program through Monterrey Bay Aquarium. Chef Telford delivered it perfectly cooked with the kind of firm meat usually only seen in wild caught salmon and a Chardonnay from Santa Lucia Highlands rounded it out. The dessert was a luscious berry panna cotta. Everything about this place is special and its a must visit for Sacramento foodies!"

  • "Food is good and not your usual fare. We think our wait person forgot to put in our order - we ordered three pasta dishes and one scallop entree so it shouldn't take 45 minutes after our salad to prepare. Many other tables seated after us were served ahead of us. Right before the food arrived He apologized for the delay, and asked if we wanted another glass of wine but didn't offer to comp it. Very disappointed with the service but the food was very good. Two hours after we arrived, we left, without having dessert"

  • "Our dinnner's (Day Boat Scalaps) were absolutely terrific to the last morsel! Scalaps seared perfectly, very tender, excellent presentation."

  • "While "neighborhood gem" best describes this small restaurant in the Curtis Park area, we gladly travel 40 minutes from our neighborhood for the excellent food and service. On top of that is the great ambience and reasonable pricing. Try it, you'll like it!"

  • "Got a Gift Certificate for Xmas from my son and took my Wife the day after Valentines Day. Date Nite after watching the grandkid the nite before. Heard so many good things about Taylors and did not Disappoint. My wife and I will be going back and hopefully with some friends for the Experience."

  • "My husband and I found the food at Taylor's as hit and miss. I had veal T-bone and it was fine. However, my husband's pork chop was dried and very small in portion comparing to our prior visit. To spend almost $200 (that's including a bottle of wine and two appetizers), one would expect the dinner to be exceptional but it wasn't as enjoyable as our last visit."

  • "My first time at this restaurant. It was my birthday and I requested their best table for 2 on the reservation. I was a bit disappointed with the table. It seemed isolated and near a chilly window, but the place was about full. I was really looking forward to a steak, particularly their ribeye or porterhouse. Neither were available, though they were on the online menu. Had to settle for a New York. It turned out to be fairly tough with a good amount of grissle, though I ordered it rare. The rest of the meal was great. Especially the dessert, a creme brule with coffee means. The Zinfindel wine was outstanding.. Our waiter provided excellent service with a cheerful attitude. I would definitely give this restaurant another try."

  • "I'd heard many nice things about Taylor's Kitchen from locals and finally experienced it tonight. I ordered 3 courses "Chef's choice" with wine pairings. Each was delicious and artfully presented. Standouts were the Veal Sweetbreads - some of the best I've ever tasted and the pasta with Braised Rabbit. The dessert, cheesecake, was exceptional and a perfect ending to a very memorable dinner. The wine pairings were spot on, and reflected the in depth knowledge of the Manager/Wine Director, Keith Fergel. I sat at the Chef's Counter and watched Chef Telford work his magic. Taylor's offers some of the finest cuisine in Sacramento, presented in a fun and unpretentious atmosphere. I'd highly recommend this restaurant!"
