It is a mix of Peruvian/Southern Italian, so that makes the menu unique. Our waitress was excellent, very knowledgeable and attentive. We sat upstairs and had a nice table in the corner, however, after the upstairs started to fill up, it did get a little noisy. I would still highly recommend Taranta for something different, a good meal in the North End and for its great service!"

The entrees were also very goodd, but not as surprising and tasty. The service was laid back, but attentive. They accommodated our large party very well. Their wine list is entirely biodynamic and sustainable, an interesting choice which results in a unique selections of wines."

  • "I took my family to Boston for the Memorial Weekend. Saw the reviews for this restaurant and decided to try. All I can say is wow! The food was excellent! Our waiter Maris was a delight. I have a family of 5 and everyone enjoyed everything! My one son tried the Pesche Amazone and was sad when it was gone, he wanted more it was so good! My husband had the espresso rubbed steak and just loved it. My other son had the pork. It was a thick and delicious. I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant. You have got to try it. It is a bit pricey but well worth it!"

  • "My wife and I had reservations at another place last Sunday evening, but after reading numerous iffy reviews, we switched to Taranta. While the move was safe, it was not especially memorable. Te crab appetizer was light and flavorful; my wife's salmon was perfectly cooked and reasonably tasty (okay, I found it a bit bland); but my pappardelle with mushrooms was not good -- pasta was overcooked and leaden, stuck together at the bottom of the plate, then covered by well-cooked but underseasoned mushrooms. How does an Italian place overcook pasta? My point exactly. The staff were nice, though they seemed a little unsure of themselves, as if this were their first night. Lots of potential, but not on our short list. "

We also had the house cocktail based on a Peruvian liqueur which was delicious and refreshing, and a sav blanc. This was a pricey meal, but worth it. We were celebrating, and could have been more careful about what we ordered if we had been concerned about it. The waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, and very pleasant. the outside wall opens up for an outside dining effect if the weather ever warms up."

Warm service (server was incredibly sweet and informed), cozy ambiance and delicious food from start to finish - and we are pretty picky! Interesting fare - not the traditional Italian you may associate with the North End. Every entree was delectable - from pasta with tomatoes, to ravioli to rack of lamb to double pork chop (a real winner!). The guava infused canolli was the perfect end to a fun dinner with friends. Even my husband who doesn't like canollis admitted they were good. Make a reservation - it is a small space."

The location, food, wines and staff all contribute to making this an ideal place to celebrate special family events such as birthdays, graduations, etc. It's always a first choice. The unique combination of southern Italian and Peruvian dishes is always a treat, especially the pasta courses. Lamb is always prepared and presented very well. The wine list is affordable and appropriate for the various prepared dishes. Table settings are nice, service staff is experienced and very professional."

  • "Our first visit to Taranta (in 2007) was a pleasant surprise. Our return visit seven years later was, if anything, even better. The food is still unique and very, very good. The wine list is still small, but filled with great wine at relatively reasonable prices. The service is friendly and helpful. Often a return visit to a good restaurant, particularly after a number of years, can be disappointing (it isn't as good as you recall, the ambiance has changed for the worse, or the menu now seems dated). Taranta has, somehow, bucked this trend and remains vibrant. And, most importantly, the food is still great. "

  • "I arrived about 15 minutes early (before the rest of my party) and I was seated at a great table with a street. One person in my party needs gluten-free food and the waiter was knowledgeable and accommodating in making some simple switches to meet her needs. Everyone but me cleaned their plates. I had the fabulous double cut pork chop and was delighted to have some left over to take home. My friends ordered a wine they loved and I had the Merlot by the glass which was also great. So, great food and service all around. We did decide to go to Mike's for dessert. It is just too good a North End experience to pass up. (Try the Espresso Cannoli there.)"
